I sat in the living room, staring at the television while I snuggled under a blanket. It was officially winter and I was freezing. I was dozing off.
Because of my lack of sleep that night I had not been able to bring Daisuke to his school the next morning. Apparently the parents of those kids had been impressed and those kids had actually written my 5 page essay assignment. I wasn't even a teacher so it surprised me they actually did.
I didn't think they were really impressed with me though, impressed seemed the opposite. Too bad for me because I wanted to see their reactions to me, slightly mean but I think that being intimidated by someone older would certainly help with their bullying tendencies.
I woke up again and looked at the clock, 0.53am.
Woops, I should go to bed.
I got up and turned off the lights in the living room. I was about to walk up the stairs when I noticed lights in the dining room. I opened the door and saw Shirogane working. He looked up as I opened the door further.
"Why are you still awake?"
"I fell asleep on the couch earlier. I could ask the same of you though."
I sat down at the table across from him.
"I have some work I really need to finish."
"Can I help with anything?"
He smiled at me. "Not really. Just go to bed."
"Well okay. Goodnight."
"Good night." He immediately returned to his work.
I went upstairs and crawled in bed.
"Mitsuki-san?"
"Yes?"
"I am very sorry for your loss."
"Thank you."
"It was an awful fire. I am so very glad you survived."
"Surviving isn't worth much when you lose everything dear to you." I looked at the man who was speaking to Mitsuki-san.
Just then a car stopped in front of me and I stepped in.
I looked into the car window and saw a reflection.
Huh wait, this woman isn't the same woman from my other visions.
This woman had the same blue eyes I had but her hair was red. On her face there were red scars and scrapes which must have been from the fire and escaping from it. Since we were in a car we must be in a different time as of the other woman.
Right then the car came to a shocking stop.
I sat straight up as if I was startled by the stop of the car. I was all sweaty and I had a dry throat. What was going on? I thought this was the blonde woman. But this was clearly a different time, and a different person, right?
I picked up my phone and looked at the time, it was around 5am.
I got out of bed and walked downstairs, to get a glass of water as well as to get some painkillers for the headache I was having. I was on my way to the kitchen when I saw there were still lights on in the dining room. I looked around the corner of the door and saw Shirogane still working, looking at his screen and clearly very annoyed over something.
I closed the door and walked to the kitchen. I put on the kettle and opened the humongous cabinet for tea. After I picked out tea I went into the pantry and got those strawberry candies which I had been taking which were apparently Shirogane's.
Once the tea was ready I took it all to the dining room and set it down on the table. Shirogane didn't notice me until I poked him in the arm.
"What is it?"
I reached him one of the cups of tea.
"Thanks. What time is it?"
"Five."
I took one of the candies and put it in my mouth.
"I came to get some medicine but saw you were still working."
I looked at him, he looked extremely tired.
"You scold me for being awake late but you have a habit of being up late too. You should do this in the morning and not at night."
He took a sip of his tea and was about to say something.
"You do know that this won't walk away, but if you collapse we are in bigger trouble."
He grinned. "Telling me off, huh?"
"Yep." I replied to him and smiled at him.
He closed his laptop, sighed and leaned back in the chair.
"You're right. Let's finish our drinks and then go to sleep."
We sat there in silence, just enjoying our tea.
"By the way..."
"Yes?"
"I couldn't find any medicine..."
"That's right, because they aren't there in the first place."
He looked at me.
"Has no one ever told you were you can find stuff like medicine?"
I shook my head and shrugged. "I literally just ask and have been given what I needed."
"I'll show you tomorrow okay?"
I looked at him, smugly and planning on saying something funny.
"Don't start with me." He saw my look.
"Okay." I couldn't help but grin though and took another sip of my tea.
"Your parents told me something the other day."
"Huh?"
"Apparently people at Daisuke's school think we're a couple. Your parents were questioning me about it."
I almost choked in my tea.
"Huh, what? We're not."
He laughed and gently patted my back.
"Wait, because we came together?" I was thinking out loud. Then I realized. "It's because you hugged me!" I pointed at him. "Did you do that on purpose?"
He just laughed and I blushed. I started thinking about that day and thinking about it more made me turn red. They must've thought we were kissing.
I face planted the table, oh boy. And my parents must have believed that.
"By the way, your parents also mentioned something else."
I turned my head to look at him, still laying my head on the table.
"Hm?"
"There will be a party on Christmas eve."
"Yeah, I know. I wasn't planning on going though, I am thinking on hiding in my room until it's over."
I sat back up and rested my head in my hands, staring into the distance.
"Why?"
"I am not really that great with group gatherings and besides even if I did go. It's a dance party, I have no partner."
"I could be your partner though."
I looked at him, slightly surprised.
"Don't you have someone else you would want go with?"
"Not really. If I had a girlfriend I would've taken her but I don't. Besides, I doubt I would have as much fun if I wouldn't go with you."
He said it with such a straight face but his words...
So he is basically saying he doesn't think he will have fun if he won't go with me... I also didn't know he was single.
I felt my cheeks get hot so I quickly took a sip from my tea.
"Are you sure though? I can't dance."
He grinned. "I doubt you're that bad."
"Well then. Okay, I'll go with you."
I put down my empty cup. After drinking the tea and having spoken with him it felt like the dream I had earlier was no longer that important, I stood up to put away my cup but I swayed a little.
I felt him grab my arm and pull me back on the chair.
"I'll get you the medicine you wanted, just stay here."
He walked out the room.
Ever since that hit on my head I was easily dizzy and was having a lot of headaches.
I had tried to keep it to myself but Shirogane was way too perceptive and noticed something was off with me every single time. In a sense it was nice to have someone who looks out for you but in a way it was also slightly annoying. It felt like I wouldn't be able to hide even the smallest thing from him. It also made me feel like I was bothering him every time I felt a little off.
I lay down on the table again and closed my eyes for a few seconds.
"Mitsuki-chan!"
I saw that face again, the face of the boy I saw once before, big blue eyes and blonde hair.
Right then I felt someone's hand in my head, gently caressing my hair.
"This isn't really a place to sleep."
I opened my eyes and realized I had dozed off. I looked at Shirogane sleepily and then took the medicine that he had put down on the table.
"Are you okay?"
I nodded. "I am just really tired."
I held his hand out and I took it, standing up. I was still a little wobbly but quickly found my balance.
"Are you sure you don't need help?"
"Yes, I am sure."
I let go of his hand and started to walk through the door to the stairs. He followed suit.
"How is your ankle by the way?"
"Hmm? It's okay. I can stand on it. Probably shouldn't jump from high places though." I grinned slightly.
"You shouldn't jump from high places anyways." He shook his head.
"I seriously wonder what is going in your head sometimes."
"Right now my head is begging me to go to bed." We stood in front of my room.
"Good night."
"Good night." I replied and closed the door behind me.
It was Christmas Eve, a time that was considered a perfect date night for couples. For me it meant a dance party in my own home. Where they had planned it I didn't know. This house was so big and no one had ever bothered touring me. Not that I would have been able to remember every single room but it would have been nice to go.
I sat on the chair in front of my vanity while the servants were busy doing my hair and make-up. For once I had allowed them to help me out. There was no way I was able to do my hair into something fancy or put on the dress I had picked out. The dress was an off white, long, off-shoulder dress, at the bust it was like feathers wrapped around my chest. It sat beautifully on me even though I wasn't that gifted in chest area. The bottom of the dress fell down to the ground in a flowing way, it stood out a little but not too much that it needed a hoop underneath. When wearing heels the dress would fall beautifully, not showing my feet but I wouldn't drag the dress around on the floor. The bottom the dress was embezzled with blue crystal which matched perfect with the silver with blue crystal diamonds adorned diadem they were very delicately placing on my head right now. It all matched as I was wearing a lacy choker and my favourite silver with blue crystal diamond necklace. Completely it was a beautiful hint of blue matching my colour without overwhelming the eye.
"Mitsuki-sama, please stand up so we can put on the dress." Mai said, the oldest of all the female servants.
I stood up and stepped into the dress. They lifted it up and closing the back with buttons. I was really glad it didn't have a corset inside. The dress did fit me perfectly, as if it was handmade for me.
I let my hands gently move down the dress. "It's beautiful."
"You look beautiful, ojou-sama." Sara said.
"What time is it?" I asked. I wasn't able to move as they were still closing the back and putting on my shoes as well.
"It is 8.30pm, ojou-sama. We are just finished." Hina answered.
I flinched. "I should go already."
I lifted my dress and turned around looking at them. There were 5 female servants in the room, varying from age.
"Have a beautiful evening, ojou-sama." They bowed.
"Thank you." I smiled brightly and quickly walked to the door.
One of the servants quickly followed me, opened the door and quickly led me through the hallways towards the door of the ballroom. Right there, waiting for me was Shirogane.
He turned around to look at me and smiled.
"I am so sorry for taking so long."
"It's fine. Everyone is already inside though."
I realized this meant that everyone would be looking at me when I walked in. I did not like that.
I saw him look at me.
"You look really beautiful."
I blushed. "You look handsome yourself."
He was in a white tuxedo with a blue bow-tie, clearly to show I was his date tonight.
He took my hand and then linked my arm through his.
"Ready?"
"Not really to be honest."
He gently squeezed my hand. "I'm by your side."
I smiled in reply. Knowing he would be by my side did ease the tension in my body.
Right then the doors to the ballroom opened and we walked in.
The room that had quieted down when the door had opened suddenly exploded with chatter and soft gasps.
"Just ignore them." Shirogane whispered in my ear while he led me through the room right to where the girls from the café stood.
"You look stunning, Mitsuki-chan!" Ichigo said bubbly.
"Thank you." I smiled brightly.
He had brought me here on purpose, knowing I would relax seeing familiar faces. I actually had invited them through Shirogane as I wanted to thank them for taking care of Yuuki and Daisuke.
"Thank you for inviting us Mitsuki-san." Berry looked at me with her bright eyes.
"No need to thank me, I actually invited you to thank you."
They looked surprised at me.
"Thank you for always looking after Daisuke and Yuuki."
They replied with 'it is fine', 'no problem' and 'it's our pleasure'.
"Mitsuki?"
"Yes?"
I looked up at Shirogane, he held out his hand. Our eyes met, his smile making my heart flutter a little.
I took his hand and he let me to the dance floor.
"You don't need to worry, just follow my lead." He said and we started dancing.
"You said you were bad?" He grinned.
"I practiced with dad the other night." I replied and looked up at his face.
"You didn't dare asking your dance partner?" He was definitely teasing me.
"I asked dad in hopes it would be a good bonding moment."
"Fair enough. Next time ask me though." The last part of the sentence he whispered in my ear.
I felt my face turn red and I looked away trying to make sure he wouldn't be able to see. He laughed and then the music ended. I saw someone tap on the shoulder of Shirogane. Akasaka-san looked at me with a bright smile.
"May I?"
I returned his smile. "Of course."
I curtsied and he took my hand.
"Ryou has been taking good care of you."
I couldn't help but reply with a giggle.
"He was quite nervous earlier today."
"Oh, really?"
"Oh yes, but I would be too if I were to be the dance partner of such a beautiful lady like you."
"You flatter me." I laughed.
"Your Japanese has improved greatly and you seem a lot more confident."
"You should stop complimenting me Akasaka-san, or Shirogane may think you are trying to steal his dance partner."
"Oh no, let's not. I do not intend to steal his lady."
The end of the song came and he let me go.
"I hope I get the chance to dance with you later Mitsuki-san, you sure are someone I want to talk a bit more with."
I laughed and shook my head. Right then Shirogane stood in front of me.
"It seems he was making you laugh quite a bit."
Shirogane took me to grab something to drink. I couldn't help but laugh at his comment.
"If you knew what the conversation was about, you would see the joke. I am not going to explain it though."
I saw his face when he gave me a drink. It was full of confusion, annoyance and a hint of something I couldn't completely place, jealousy?
"It looks like you aren't struggling that much after all."
"I am not, but it's because I keep good company." I smiled brightly, feeling happy and light hearted.
"Well, may I ask you for another dance?"
"You may."
After two dances I saw someone tap on the shoulder of Shirogane again, he turned around.
He gently let me go to make place for my dad.
I returned the smile they both gave me. My dad took my hand and we then started dancing.
"You picked out a beautiful dress, you look stunning."
I smiled in reply.
"I hope you don't feel too uncomfortable."
"Oh no, it's fine." My eyes met Shirogane's who was dancing with my mom.
"Shirogane has been making sure I am fine." I met my dad's eyes.
"Dad?"
"Yes?"
I wanted to ask him about the flashbacks. About the boy I had kept seeing over the past few weeks, whether it was in dreams or through the day.
"Minato?"
I saw my mom, who had stopped dancing, looking at the door. We both stopped dancing as well and my eyes followed where their eyes were pointed to. I froze. This man in the doorway, I had seen his face before. I had seen this exact man in multiple of my flashbacks.
My dad let go off me and walked up to my mom.
But that shouldn't be possible.
I felt an arm wrap around my waist and pull me closer.
"Mitsuki?"
