King finally made it back to the tavern, forty-five minutes late because he had gotten lost. He floated into the building, out of breath, and immediately got scolded by Ban.
"King, you're late! I thought you said you'd be back by two?"
"Sorry, I got lost in town and I couldn't even find Diane."
He sighed in defeat.
Elizabeth yelled out jovially from behind the bar,
"It's ok Sir. King, I didn't mind waiting for you."
King gazed over to Elizabeth and smiled.
"Thanks, Elizabeth."
Meliodas chimed in,
"Hey, do you want my help with Helbram?"
King gave him a deadpanned expression.
"Yes captain, since, you know, Elizabeth has to touch the curse. And the curse causes extreme pain to its host."
Ban laughed at him and got up, heading towards the stairs. He called over to them,
"Come on, let's get this over with. Hell, your prince-charming might have awakened by now King~."
King blushed as he followed behind Ban, shouting in embarrassment,
"Shut up, Ban!"
The four ascended the staircase.
Helbram was still asleep when the group entered the room. Ban sighed in disappointment.
"Awe, he's still asleep. I was hoping he woke back up."
King looked over at Ban in surprise.
"He woke up!?"
"Yeah while you were out. The idiot tried to move, but don't worry, I kept him safe and sound."
King pouted at Ban, turning his attention to Meliodas. He glared daggers at him. Meliodas put his hands up in a defensive manner.
"Hey, I didn't know he woke up I didn't hear anything."
"Right."
King said skeptically. Ban grinned at King and crossed his arms.
"What, can't I talk to him? Or are you afraid I'll corrupt him or something?"
A blush colored King's face.
"No, it's just that you're a brute and he doesn't like humans."
"Yeah I know, we had a nice chat."
Ban smiled victoriously at King. King glared hatefully at Ban.
"I hate you."
Elizabeth chimed in breaking the building tension in the room,
"Um, can we just get him back onto his stomach so I can heal him? I really want to help him and I don't want him to suffer anymore."
King turned his attention to Elizabeth, his hatred melting away.
"Oh, yeah sorry."
He floated over to help Ban push Helbram onto his stomach, however, Ban had already moved him on his own. King scowled at Ban. Ban just shrugged at King and replied nonchalantly,
"What? The curse is between his shoulder blades right now. I can move him without help."
King pouted. He moved next to Helbram and grabbed the fairy's right arm, holding it down. The other two men took up the positions they had last time. Elizabeth looked at Helbram and smiled, a relieved sigh left her lips. She was worried that the curse might have climbed back to its original state. However, seeing that it was exactly how she left it eased her as she pulled her magic forward. She breathed out as she placed her hands on Helbram's back. Helbram woke up and yelled.
"Aaaaahhhhhhh!"
The pain seared his back and radiated out. It wasn't as bad as before, but it still felt like someone was ripping his back apart. He tried to pull away from Elizabeth but he couldn't escape. As he twitched in pain, his larger set of wings started to flutter up in irritation. They pushed Elizabeth away.
"Ah!"
"Helbram!"
King yelled as he watched the wings flutter up and down.
"Whoa!"
Ban yelled in surprise. He almost let go of Helbram. The set of wings almost hit Ban as well, something he wasn't expecting.
"You ok Elizabeth?"
Meliodas asked. He too almost let go of Helbram, to try and aid Elizabeth, but he stayed put as the girl replied in a confident tone,
"I'm fine Sir. Meliodas, so please just keep him in place."
Meliodas nodded as he pressed down harder on Helbrams ankles. Ban yelled at Helbram,
"Hey, she's trying to help you! Calm down!"
Helbram stopped moving, but his wings kept fluttering and twitching. His breathing was rapid as he yelled at Ban, irritation evident in his voice
"Shut up!... LET GO!"
He put all his force into throwing Ban off his arm. And Ban was thrown. Ban wasn't expecting the fairy to actually have the strength to throw him off. King looked over in shock, he didn't think Helbram could actually throw Ban off of him either. Helbram withered, throwing Ban off was a bad idea. It set off a new wave of pain throughout his body. He screamed again. Ban quickly scrambled back over and grabbed Helbram's arm, putting more force into it this time to hold him firmly down.
"You idiot! Don't do that again!"
He's actually stronger than King. That's surprising.
Helbram gritted his teeth as tears started to pour out of his eyes. Again, he passed out. His wings fell back down and Elizabeth quickly placed her hands back onto his back, pouring more magic into healing him. King gazed over to Ban and then Elizabeth.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think he could knock you off Ban. And Elizabeth, I'm sorry, I didn't even think he would move his wings with the curse still covering the majority of his back."
Elizabeth smiled as she said in a strained voice
"It's ok Sir. King, no one was expecting him to do that."
Elizabeth was reaching her limit. The curse was now mostly contained to a black spot in the middle of Helbram's back. She pulled away, panting.
"*huh* *huh* It's mostly contained in one spot now. I should be able to get rid of it completely by tomorrow, Sir. King."
Meliodas let go of Helbram's legs and rushed over to Elizabeth, picking her up bridal-style, and praising her.
"You did great, Lizbeth."
She blushed as she gazed into Meliodas's eyes.
"Sir. Meliodas… Thank you!"
Meliodas and Elizabeth headed towards the stairs, King yelled over to them,
"Thank you, Elizabeth, and again I'm sorry for Helbram's actions."
"Please no need to apologize, I'm happy to help."
The pair disappeared down the stairs. King turned his attention back to Helbram and gazed at him. The curse was no longer touching his wings and it had pulled away from his lower back. It was just as Elizabeth said it was: condensed into a circle in the middle of his back. King smiled seeing that the curse was nothing more than a black spot. Relief washed over him as Ban draped a blanket over Helbram. King frowned as he looked up at Ban.
"Why did you do that?"
"He told me he was cold earlier so I got this blanket to keep him warm. The curse is a tiny spot now so it shouldn't be hurting him."
King gave Ban a grateful smile, but it quickly fell as he neared his eyes at Ban.
"I can't believe he talked to you when he woke up."
Ban gave him a devilish grin.
"Yeah well, what can I say? I'm just that great. Why, are you jealous~!?"
Kings face heated up as he turned away from Ban,
"NO!"
He's so jealous
Ban chuckled as he walked over and placed an arm around King.
"Come on, let's go get something to eat. He won't be waking up for a while, he just wasted all his strength on pushing me away."
"Fine, but afterward you're coming with me to run an errand."
Ban grinned.
"Yeah, yeah."
