Author's note - Hello for those of you still there! I know it's been quite some time since I updated, the world kinda went insane and I stopped writing. I am hopefully back but I make no promises as I can not be trusted. That aside my sincerest apologies to those following my story or me, I wish that fickle nature I have with words would right itself. I hope you like what I've done, I do have more so more updates will be coming and I hope I can finish this story this year.

Legal stuff - There is quite a bit of dialogue from The Avengers - please note I lay no claim to those words or characters from Marvel, I'm just a huge fangirl who loves that tricky Asgardian, so much so I made him a companion.
As always please enjoy, read, and review - I love hearing from you, it helps me so much, you have no idea how much!
The Asgardian held the scepter in his right hand gripping it firmly before pointing it out in front of him. An energy pulse flew from the gem causing a doorway to open before the couple. It was bright blue and pulled them through it. It sounded like electricity crackling all around them as they were wrenched forward with lightning speed. The couple held onto each other during the journey before spitting them out onto a platform. The energy dissipated around the couple like smoke, Loki was kneeling holding the scepter in his hand still, and Liya was flat on her stomach behind the Trickster.
Loki grinned as he stood looking around at his new surroundings, 'Stay down Dove,' he thought to her.
"Sir, please put the spear down," the order came from a man with an eyepatch, he held himself as a leader.
Liya looked up from the floor of the platform as Loki shot a stream of blue light from the scepter at the man that spoke. Someone jumped on the man with the eyepatch knocking him out of the way of the blast. The guards that had been approaching the platform opened fire but Loki drew it away from Amaliya keeping them occupied. Liya covered her head but once the men were following Loki she pulled her feet beneath her to crouch then stood and walked carefully to where the Tesseract was being held.
Amidst the chaos and the people in the room being cut down she kept her mind on the Tesseract. She saw the man with the eyepatch grab it from its holding place and place it in a case. He hadn't seen the princess his focus was on Loki. The firefight had stopped Loki had a few of the men under his control and the rest were dead except the man with the eyepatch and a grey haired man.
"Please don't," Loki spoke calmly and clearly as he turned, "I still need that."
The man with the eyepatch stood holding the case by a handle, "This doesn't have to get any messier."
"Of course it does," Loki looked to Amaliya past the man, "I've come too far for anything else. I am Loki, of Asgard. And I am burdened with glorious purpose." His gaze fixed on Amaliya, she was his purpose, the reason he agreed to Thanos' demands and ultimatums, he would see her free from the Titan to take her rightful place beside him once more.
"Loki," someone behind Liya questioned, "Brother of Thor?"
Liya looked at the Trickster as a disgusted look scrawled over his face. She turned to the man that spoke. He was older, greying hair with stubble on his face; he spoke with a slight accent. He knew about Thor, curious, could he be one of the Midgardians that met Thor when he was banished?
"We have no quarrel with your people," the one eyed man stated turning to see the princess and Liya's bravado dropped. He could see that she didn't want to hurt anyone, Loki on the other hand, it was clear that he would do anything to achieve his goals.
"An ant has no quarrel with a boot," the Asgardian retorted and Liya looked quizzically at him.
"You planning on stepping us?"
Loki let out a light laugh, "I come with glad tidings, of a world made free."
"Free from what?"
"Freedom," Loki said frankly and this caused Liya to move forward.
"Loki," she questioned and this garnered all the attention in the room, those under the spear's control and not.
Loki held out a hand signaling her to stop and let him continue, "Freedom is life's great lie. Once you accept that in your heart," he turned to the grey haired man putting him under the control of the spear, "you will know peace."
"Yeah, you say peace. I kinda think you mean the other thing."
A younger man walked to the God of Mischief, "Sir, Director Fury is stalling. This place is about to blow and drop a hundred feet of rock on us. He means to bury us."
Fury smiled, "Like the pharaohs of old."
The grey haired man went to a terminal, "He's right. The portal is collapsing in on itself. We've got maybe two minutes before this goes critical."
"Well then," Loki looked to the younger man who drew a weapon and fired at Fury causing him to drop the case and fall to the ground presumably dead.
Liya didn't have time to process what happened she just grabbed the case following Loki and the rest of his team out of the room. She handed the case to the grey haired man. They walked down a corridor following the younger man. They followed him up to gate that was closing moving under it. They were met by a woman who glared at Liya and Loki as they were helped into a vehicle.
"Who's that," the woman asked.
The man that shot Fury answered, "Didn't tell me."
"Are we safe Loki," the princess asked as the prince shielded her from anything that could possibly hurt her.
"Of course Dove," he reassured her but his voice betrayed him. It was shaky from the journey and his exertion to get the Tesseract.
The voice of Fury could be heard over the communication device that the woman held. She turned drawing a weapon and firing it at the vehicle. The man that shot Fury drove off in the tunnel to escape. The woman followed them closely once moving in front of them to stop them. Liya dropped to the bed of the vehicle covering her head and trying to become as small as she could until this was over.
"Stay down," Loki ordered covering her as much as he could.
The chase was loud, weapon fire and screeching and squealing coming from the vehicles and the rumble of earth falling around them was all she could hear. Hiding underneath Loki covering her ears against the deafening sounds around her; the vehicle continued to race before breaching the tunnel and into the night air.
The sounds of weapon fire and the vehicle screeching had stopped now it was just the vehicle roaring at high speeds to escape the collapsing facility. Liya looked around Loki's leg to see buildings falling into a gaping hole. Weapon fire once more started and she cowered under the prince again. All she could see was huge clouds of dirt being thrown up by the vehicle trying to dodge the weapon. Loki fired the scepter at something and hit his mark. The flying machine crashed into the ground before the vehicle she was in took off into the night.
Loki was breathing heavily as he sat down next to Amaliya. He was exhilarated. A grin spread wide across his features that were covered with sweat. This was obviously not going to be a walk in the park as she had so naively hoped.
Loki turned to the princess, "Are you hurt?"
She shook her head trying to form words, "No," she said after several beats of silence.
He placed a protective arm around her; there was still so much to do before she could even be considered safe. The journey to a safe place required several hours and vehicle changes. Amaliya was exhausted from the traveling, her eyes barely closed before they were switching transportation once more. Loki roused her again when they reached their final destination. The prince carried her into the expansive base that looked to be abandoned until they entered. There were at least a hundred men running around carrying out duties.
"Agent Barton," Loki inquired of the young man that shot Fury, "she needs to rest."
"This way," Barton responded before turning down and corridor leading Loki to a room, "she can rest in here until we're ready."
"Thank you Agent Barton," Loki told him entering the room closing the door behind him.
"Where are we," Liya asked as the Asgardian placed her on the bed.
"Somewhere safe," he told her brushing the hair away from her forehead, "at least for now."
Liya looked into his eyes wanting to just go; she could take them both, back to Asgard or Vanaheim. She had no idea how long they had been on Midgard or how long they would continue to be here. People were looking for them and the threat of Thanos constantly hovering over them. The buzzing in her head grew louder making her grimace in pain, she could hear the snarling and growling of the Chitauri chomping at the bit, they wanted their war.
"Amaliya," Loki asked seeing her face change.
"They're just loud," she waved off the pain she was feeling. Liya didn't want to worry him anymore than he was for her safety.
"If you're certain," he said knowing full well that she was hurting. "You should get some rest Dove," he told her, "there is much to do and you will need your strength."
Liya nodded kissing his lips lightly before resigning herself to at least try to sleep. Loki left her room going back to putting the pieces in place before calling forth the Chitauri army. He walked away with heavy footsteps and an even heavier heart.
