Does this guy ever shut up?
This guy's constant rambling was seriously starting to annoy her. Sure the looks she had received when she had stepped foot inside of this lot were appalling. The lingering stares. Especially when they didn't think she was looking. Though many of those looks had disappeared into fear or simply vanished completely once they had introduced themselves to the blabber mouth of a salesperson loud enough for everyone to hear. A small benefit she supposes in being an ex criminal. Just speak her name loudly enough inside of a joint like this and any problems such as that would disappear. Though she could deal with not having the surveillance cameras watching them like a hawk now. Like she would have seriously tried to rob this place in broad daylight.
Morons!
Though she was thankful to have Terry right here beside her. A boyfriend that looks just as bored and annoyed as she is trying to keep a forced smile across his face while the salesperson keeps rambling on about the unique deals going on around them all the while she keeps an eye on Matt out of the corner of her eye. A little brother that she can see having the time of his life running around the lot causing ignored looks to be directed his way by other salespeople walking on by. Looks that go completely ignored as he looks around at every single parked motorcycle with nothing but awe. With admiration seen across his face making her genuinely smile in his direction. A smile that turns into a grin when she sees him rushing over towards a motorcycle and taking a seat causing a few nearby salespeople to glance in his direction with glares. She couldn't really blame him for the way he is acting. He is just a kid after all. Why shouldn't he have some fun trying out the bikes while they are here?
Feeling a nudge to her side snapping out of her thoughts turning away from Matt to look back forward finding two pairs of eyes looking in her direction with one of them looking her way in amusement fighting the blush that wants to come across her face taking a moment to compose herself Melanie fake coughs into her hand before she focuses back on the salesperson with a forced smile.
" I'm sorry. You were saying?"
Hearing a chuckle coming from her side immediately Melanie snaps her head to glare at Terry causing to her annoyance his grin to only widen under her intense gaze. Oh how she will make him pay the moment they are alone.
" I was just asking you what you think? Personally i like the paint job on it already but perhaps giving it a few white stripes would give it a more homely feeling."
Instantly getting the hidden message behind what he is saying grinning up at him nodding her head gently Melanie squeezes Terry's hand as the glare disappears from her eyes into nothing but happiness.
" It would wouldn't it? Though i'm sure you wouldn't mind doing the paint job yourself. Afterall you are always looking for something to do around the apartment so let's not waste anymore of this gentlemen's time."
Taking her eyes away from Terry to look back towards the salesperson that just glances back and forth between them patiently awaiting an answer having a good feeling what his reaction will be Melanie gives him a friendly smile.
" We'll take it."
And she wasn't wrong. From the way his eyes lit up she had hit it right on the head. It was no secret their choice was the most expensive on the floor. Cost didn't matter. Not when you have a millionaire supplying your bank accounts. No what truly bothers her is the look in this man's eyes as though he is doing the math for his commission on the sale. A truly disgusting thing to see right now that she knew would only get worse at the next thing she does. As she raises her free hand up when he sees him about to say something before lifting up two fingers in the air making his eyes go wide as saucers.
" Two of them. Black preferably. We can pay for them in full right now so long as we get to drive out of here in them today."
With nothing but a wide smile forming across his face nodding his head happily the salesperson glances back and forth between Melanie and Terry quickly. The sale of the day. Hell the sale of the month. Perhaps even the best of his career. The commission alone will pay for his all expenses trip to anywhere he wants when it comes time to use his vacation time.
" That can be arranged. I'll just go get the paperwork. I'll be right back."
Watching the salesperson like a hawk as she sees him turn and quickly make his way off the lot into the office with an extra geddie up in his step unable to help herself from rolling her eyes looking back towards Terry seeing him grinning down towards her returning the grin without looking away from his eyes Melanie nods her head over his shoulder.
" You better go and round him up before we have to buy the whole lot."
Quickly catching on looking over his shoulder as he sees Matt leap off one parked motorcycle and head directly towards another while a small group of salespeople look on angrily at him releasing a hold of her hand quickly Terry makes his way towards his younger brother while nothing but Melanie giggling can be heard coming from behind him. Giggling that turns into a grin as she watches her boyfriend go over and have a silent conversation with his little brother before she silently watches Terry nod his head in the direction of their purchase causing Matt's eyes to lit up. This small interaction she can't help but feel happy for them. From what she has gathered from multiple parties this relationship had soured the moment Terry had been recruited to become The Batman full time. Though thanks to some friendly reminders that relationship had been quickly repaired. Better than that. It was better than it was before.
Something she could only wish happened with her and her own blood. A brother that she used to be so close with. Jack. Her truly only close family member. A brother that if he was just to see the error of his ways. Of their parents' ways. Of their ways then she would bail him out of jail in a heartbeat. But he hasn't it. Not from the brief moments she has visited him. Perhaps in another lifetime things could have been different with her and Jack. Perhaps they could have been working at the restaurant together. Maybe he would even be there with them right now. This troubling look that comes across her face that doesn't go unnoticed as Terry leaves Matt's side to make his way back to her before he snaps her out of her thoughts when he gently grabs her hand.
" You okay?"
Nodding her head giving him the best forced smile she can muster up that from his look is clearly seen through letting out a sigh looking away Melanie shakes her head slightly.
" I was just thinking about my brother."
With his gaze softening bringing his arm around her waist pulling her close to his side hearing a sigh escape her lips Terry feels Melanie bringing her head down to rest against his shoulder.
" I just wished that he would get his head out of his ass and admit one day that what we did was wrong. The last time I saw him, he was so caught up thinking that one day our family would be reunited once again. He was even dropping hints to me about if he was to get out that he would break my father and mother out of jail so that we could be reunited. He's so completely brainwashed that all he can think about is the next big score."
Sighing sadly buries herself deeper into his side gently Melanie shakes her head against his shoulder as she looks across the lot not focusing on anything particular.
" I just wished sometimes that things would be different. You know?"
Nodding his head in understanding, bringing his head down to lay a kiss on the top of her head wrapping his free arm around her slowly Terry buries his face in the crook of her neck.
" Yeah."
And he did. He had met him once before. Not as Batman. No but as Terry Mcginnis. The one secret he has kept away from her. A secret visit at the prison that he is currently held in. A visit that he hoped would go differently. Hoped he would have been able to convince Jack of the errors of his ways. Not for his own sake but for Melanie's. A name that moment he had dropped he had seen a change in the way Jack had looked at him. But it was only brief before the criminal inside of him emerged. A side that didn't look like it would go away anytime soon, making his decision easier. If he had changed his ways. If he had convinced him otherwise then he would have walked out of that prison a free man. Would have walked out of there with a clean slate but he supposes the thrill of committing a crime had been too much for him.
The almost same thought that runs through her mind at the same time. A thought she shakes away quickly as she sees Matt making his way over towards them with a sheepish look across his face. This look that draws an eyebrow raised in question making him scratch the back of his head with a nervous smile.
" For what it's worth, I think you're the coolest older sister ever."
A statement that earns matching blushes across each of Terry's and Melanie's faces. Though for the later a smile could be seen forming across her face at it. Leave it to him to cheer her up and she had to admit. She has become rather fond of the young man like a little brother. A title she has spoken out loud but could see from his actions that he truly thought of himself as.
" Thanks."
Wiggling herself out of Terry's embrace making her way over to ruffle Matt's hair gently earning a mock glare grinning down towards him glancing around Melanie nods her head towards a nearby corner.
" Let's go check out what they have available for helmets while your brother takes care of the paperwork."
As if on cue as he hears footsteps coming from behind him glancing over his shoulder seeing their salesperson coming over towards him with a small stack of papers tucked underneath his hand turning his head back forward Terry's eyes widen when he sees a grinning Melanie looking over her shoulder at him while she is led away by Matt across the lot towards a display shelf filled with different colored helmets.
