Hello again! So, funny story, at the start of writing this fic, I was deliberation really hard whether I wanted to call Hiyori's best friend 'Rin' or 'Chihiro'. Turns out I still couldn't figure it out, because I, like a true idiot, have just been switching back and forth between the names throughout the whole story! Even when I went and reread everything I wrote to check for errors, I just didn't notice it! This came to my attention because someone wrote a review about it. It's a guest review, so I unfortunately can't give proper credit, but if you, my lovely guest reviewer, read this, thank you so much! From this moment onwards, her name will be Miyagi Chihiro. I fixed it in all the other chapters. I'm so sorry about any confusion this caused.

It had been a pretty good day at practice today. Everything had gone smoothly and according to plan. Coach had left about fourty minutes ago, along with most of the team. Practice would always end early on Monday so we wouldn't get behind on homework right at the start of the week. Only me, Iwa-chan, Makki and Mattsun stayed behind to clean like the amazing and reliable upperclassmen we are.
'Hey Makki, what time is it?'
'Like, five minutes later than the last time you asked.' He replied.
The tone of his voice made it clear that I had better not ask again. My two darkhaired friends had started ignoring me after the first fifteen minutes that we were alone leaving me to suffer in my own boredom. Luckily, my boredom didn't last very long.
'Screw you, you dirt wipe! The least you could've done was warn me!'
The angry, high-pitched voice came from the gym doors and I whipped my head in the direction of it. Years of dating girls taught me that the anger of a lady was nine out of ten times directed at me. Seeing who was at the door I mentally added one more case to that statistic. She stood in the doorway, one hand gripping the doorway and the other pointing at me accusingly. A frown was etched into her face. I opened my mouth to reply, but Makki beat me to it.
'My, my, ever the one to have a loud entrance.' He said, sauntering over to Suzumi-chan. 'So, what did he do this time?' His mouth curved into a wide, sly smile and he threw his arm around her shoulders and pulled her into the gym.
Mattsun and Iwa-chan had abandoned their brooms in favor of finding out what had made the blonde upset. Suzumi-chan huffed and crossed her arms over her chest, throwing me a nasty glare.
'Uh, yeah, what was I supposed to warn you about?' I asked, raising my hands in surrender.
Her glare intensified. Apparently that was not the right thing to ask.
'You,' She began, uncrossing her arms to once more point at me, 'could have told me that being friends with you as a girl, is basically the same as committing treason. You could have told me that I would be submitted to an extensive interrogation. So extensive in fact, that it would last THREE whole hours.'
'Oh, right, that would have been very helpful, yes. Oopsie' I said, rubbing my hand against the back of my neck.
She narrowed her eyes at me. 'Oopsie indeed.'
The tense atmosphere was then broken by three comedically timed snorts.
'Welcome to the club.' Iwa-chan said with a grin.
'Yeah, we've all been there.' Mattsun continued, 'Even as guys we've had to promise every single girl in this school that we would not fall for this guy.' He pointed at me.
'As if.' Makki added with a huff.
'Makki, so mean,' I said with a whine, yes I admit that I whine sometimes, and latched onto his arm, 'you know you love me.' I batted my eyelashes up at him.
I don't know if the look of pure, unadulterated disgust was reassuring or hurtful to me. An image of Makki grabbing me by the shirt to pull me in for a kiss flashed through my mind and I shuddered. His disgust had never felt more reassuring.
A happy giggle filled the gym and I saw Suzumi-chan watch our exchange with a smile. I felt like I was forgetting something and I suddenly remembered our plan.
'I'm really sorry about this whole thing though,' I said, detaching myself from Makki, 'is there any way I can make it up to you?'
'Oh? How kind of you. How much can I ask for with that kindness?'
While she asked it, she bent down to place her bag on the ground. The motion automatically drew the attention of all of us and we all looked at the bag. More importantly, we looked at the sheet of paper sticking out of it. It had formulas scribbled all over it.
'Test on your first day?' Iwa-chan asked. Suzumi-chan nodded in response. 'Man, that's rough.'
'Yeah, we had a pop quiz.' She said and pulled out the test, which was almost marked with more red than black ink. 'Math,' She elaborated, gesturing towards it. 'I'm really bad at it though.'
As she said that, she looked me straight in the eye and I was once more struck by her acting ability. She had planned this from the beginning! I quickly recovered from my starstruck state and replied.
'Well my friend, you're in luck.' I said, taking the test and flinging it over my shoulder. 'I just happen to be a master in the art of Algebra and everything math.' I stepped forward a bit and put my hand on her shoulder and pointed at myself with my thumb with my other hand. 'I'll teach you.'
A chorus of the word 'Really?' echoed back at me from all sides. The three males voices that spoke the word sounded incredulous and disbelieving. I could already imagine what their faces would look like.
My eyes and focus were on the girl in front of me and the bright blue eyes staring back at me lit up in excitement.
'Thank you so much! It would help a lot!' She said happily and she surprised me by stepping forward and pulling me into a hug.
Never one to refuse the advances of a pretty girl, I returned the embrace. She was quite a bit smaller than me so my arms rested on her shoulders. Her arms looped around my waist and she squeezed me gently before letting go.
'Wait, no really?' Iwa-chan asked me. 'You've never offered to tutor a girl before.'
'Oh, but my dear Iwa-chan, this is not just any girl. This girl is henceforth part of my group of beloved friends. I could never ignore a friend in need.'
Iwa-chan looked me in the eye for a few seconds and then shrugged. 'Alright, well whatever. As long as it doesn't affect your performance on the court.'
I stuck out my tongue at him. 'Yes mom.'
My best friend growled and charged at me. I already saw it coming though and after I evaded him with practiced ease, I turned left and dashed away from him. Iwa-chan quickly recovered and ran after me.
'Stop right there so I can hit you, shittykawa!'
'As if anyone would stop after hearing that!'
'So, what were you guys talking about?'
'What do you mean?'
I peered at Makki from the corner of my eyes.
'Back at the gym.' I elaborated. 'While I was fighting for my life, you two were really hitting it off with Suzumi-chan.'
Me and my male trio of friends were on our way home. We had walked Suzumi-chan part of the way home and after giving her directions even a three-year old would be able to follow, we had gone off on the last bit of our shared journey. In about ten minutes or so, Makki and Mattsun would have split off since the four of us lived in two different areas.
'Ah, you mean then.' Makki said with a mischievous smile.
'We were exchanging phone numbers.' Mattsun continued.'
At the same time, both guys on my left whipped out their phones and showed me their contact list. Mattsun's display read 'Suzu-chan', the abbreviation of her name peeved me for some reason. The feeling was swiftly replaced with confusion when I looked at Makki's screen.
'Why does it say 'Good murder'?'
Makki snickered. 'I'll explain it someday. Iwaizumi got her number too.'
I turned to my right.
'Seriously Iwa-chan? When?'
'When you were changing.'
'She's nice.' Mattsun said, as he put his phone back into his pocket. 'A bit naïve though.' He said with roguish smirk, which Makki quickly copied.
'What did you tell her?' I asked accusingly.
'We convinced her that it's customary in our friend group to text each other 'good night' every night before going to bed.'
I let out a sigh of relief. 'That's not that bad.'
'Yeah,' Mattsun replied, 'like we said, she's nice. She even withstood your horde of fangirls to be friends with you. Scaring her off would make the trauma of that experience for nothing.'
'How very kind of you.'
'I know right?'
My companions to my left came to a halt. We had come to the point where we would split off. We said our goodbyes and after the two pranksters had moved out of sight, my best friend and I walked off in the direction of home.
The ping of my phone made me look over to my desk. I had just gotten out of the shower and I padded over to the device as I mushed around the towel on my head to remove the last bit of moisture from my hair.
Picking it up, I saw that I had gotten a text message from a new group chat.
Chat name: Good night
Suzumi-chan added Makki, Mattsun, Iwa-chan and you.
Suzumi-chan: Sweet dreams
Hope you enjoyed, see you next week! Love, Gogetmesomecake
