Lyni felt the security of arms around her and snuggled closer. Her sleepy mind thought it was Savage in his armour. He must have picked her up after a nightmare. Hers or his own it didn't matter.
Savage used to always carry her or Feral around. It was a way to help with anxiety. Their fear of the dark or spiders. Maybe his own fear of losing them as well. But it was too bright for Savage to be in control.
Opening her eyes she saw her mate. She could feel his unease and quickly slipped out of his arms. Straightening before managing a bow, "Thank you."
He stood too and nodded. Then she heard snickering behind her and turned as Wolffe growled, "Attention."
Instantly the two troopers snapped to attention. The one outside the cell spoke first, "Just laughing at Comets joke sir."
The two colored glare went over both of them, "Guard duty is no time for jokes Jag." There was an unease in Jag when Wolffe continued, "I expected you to know that."
Looking down Lyni saw the blankets, picked them up and folded them the best she could with her cuffs. This was not how she expected to wake up to her mate for the first time to go. So she wanted to hide how badly her hands were shaking.
Seeming to want to change the subject Jag spoke, "You were out for a long time Lyni. When was the last time you slept?"
Taking this as an olive branch and a welcome one Lyni replied, "It is hard to sleep on a ship with Maul destroying things at any time day or night." Looking at them to check the reaction, "I sometimes wonder if he ever sleeps."
Comet took it up, "How long have you lived with the two?"
She tilted her head, "Almost a year." Looking down, "They took me off of Dathomir and I owed them. So they had me fix things on the ship and cook mostly." A shrug, "When I ran into all of you was the first time I was allowed off the ship alone."
Wolffe spoke quietly, "Why is that?"
Lyni addressed the blanket she was holding, "Because I am a liability." A deep breath, "I'm not good at what those two do and I'm not useful to Mother Talzin. In fact," she swallowed and looked at Wolffe, "Savage broke the chains holding me down to an alter where Mother Talzin was about to cut out my heart." She wanted Wolffe to understand, "Maul helped him get me to the ship and I owed them for that. Following orders and keeping things tidy was something I could do to thank them."
Wolffe didn't answer. Instead he laid a hand on one of the girls slender shoulders. No wonder she ran to Savage if the only other authority she had known had tried to kill her like that. This kid was different. She was a victim in this.
