He pushes back the leaves but Peeta grabs my arm and pulls me. We are able to get far enough away to the point where he can't see us.
"There's no one here," Boggs says into a little balck box he holds in his hand.
"Keep looking soldier," a familiar woman's voice says back. "Just keep watching from above. We need to find Katniss Everdeen."
Boggs leaves the clearing and the hovercraft flies away once he is on. I sigh in relief and Peeta grabs my hand.
"We need to go Katniss," He says. His eyes are filled with worry. I nod my head and we continue walking, this time though, we stay as hidden as possible.
*three days later*
It's the eighth day of walking. I'm completely exhausted. My feet are swollen and head aches. I keep going though. We need to get to Daisy. The woods are looking more and more like the ones by 12 every day. Today I found bushes of the same berries that grow near home. Peeta and I collect as many as we can carry.
Peeta won't say it but he's exhausted too. I can tell because he reminds me of how he looked in the Games. Soon we will be home. Soon we will be on the train heading for the Capitol.
We are now on the thirteenth day of our journey. These past days we haven't seen anything but animals. No hovercrafts or other people. It's just a matter of time before we make it to twelve.
Peeta and I are holding hands when I see it. The glow of the sun reflecting off water. Then I see the roof of a small shack. We've made it to my lake.
I take off running and so does Peeta. I run onto the water and start crying. Peeta stays on the shore looking at me in confusion. I go back onto the shore and sit by him.
"Peeta this is my lake," I say. I've never told anyone about this place. It was always my secret place to be alone.
"Your lake?" he asks. His face lights up. "Does this mean we are close to 12?"
"It's about a three hour walk that way," I say and point to the trees on the other side.
Peeta starts to cry tears of joy and we both run into the water. We dig up katniss roots and make a big meal out of them and a rabbit. After another swim we strip into our underclothes to let our other stuff dry and we settle into the shack for the night. I start a fire and cuddle up next to Peeta on the floor.
"We made it Katniss," he says.
"We did, didn't we," I say and I kiss him. A long passionate kiss. Tomorrow we will go to 12.
