Prompt # 9

Nightmare

Rachel "Raven" Logan lay cuddled in bed next to her green skinned husband, her slim arms wrapped around his muscular form. It had been ten years since they had been married, six years since they had retired from the hero game to become stay at home parents to their only daughter Trinity Maria Logan.

The pretty little girl had inherited the best parts of her family, with pale green skin, slightly pointed ears, white hair and four eyes the color of the most precious rubies. She had gained her fathers shapeshifting abilities, effortlessly changing into small animals, favoring kittens and bunnies. Raven was still waiting to see if her magical and empathic abilities would pass along to the next generation.

Raven woke with a start as she felt a light weight begin crawling up her body. Opening her eyes, she found her adorable little girl draped over her body, shaking slightly as she held on tight.

"Everything ok, Little Bird?" She whispered, running her fingers through her daughter's soft white hair.

"I had a nightmare mommy," Trinity said with a sniffle, unleashing the dreaded 'Face' "Will you come tell me a story?"

"Of course, I will sweety," Raven replied, lifting the little girl into her arms and carrying her back to her room.

Trinity's room had been designed by her husband and put together by her grandfather and surrogate uncles over the course of a week. Her bed was playfully referred to as her nest, a comfortable pile blankets and stuffed animal for the little girl to climb into. A large doll house sat in the corner, a gift from her Uncle Cy and Aunt Jinx. A tall wardrobe had been built by her Uncle Richard and filled with enough clothes to fill a small store, purchased by her Aunt Kori. Her grandfather had gifted her a small library worth of books, including one they all jokingly referred to as Baby's first spell book. Walking into her daughter's connected bathroom, Raven returned with a glass of water and handed it to the small girl.

"What did you dream about, Little Bird?" She asked, holding the little girl as they lay on her bed.

"There was a shiny man with a blue towel around his neck and he was angry with you and Grandpa and he kept shouting and saying mean things about us." Trinity said before stopping to take a breath, "He was hurting daddy."

"Well, I can tell you your daddy is perfectly fine." Raven said, "And as far as the shiny man, Mommy and Grandpa will take care of him. Now, what story do you wanna hear?"

"Ooh ooh ooh, can you tell me about Grandpa again?" Trinity said, bouncing gently on her bed.

"Since it's your favorite story, I guess we can." Raven replied, as she began the story her daughter had to know by heart at this point.

Long ago, a mighty king rose from the lands of darkness to sit upon the evil throne his forefathers had held for eons. Turning his back upon the ways of darkness and evil, he sought to become a savior and protect those that darkness had touched. Rebelling against the other Lord's of Darkness, the king met them on the field of battle and eventually won the day.

His powers exhausted, he fell into a deep meditative sleep to heal his body, sleeping for millennia until he was awoken by accident. The world had moved on since his time, science and logic had replaced magic and superstition. Soon he found himself in the city of Gotham where he met a beautiful woman who would come to capture his heart. Soon, they gave birth to a daughter who had inherited her father's dark magic.

He trained her for years, until she left to make a name for herself as a hero of the lands. She joined a group of other heroes; A might warrior with the heart of a bird, a powerful knight entrapped within his life giving armor, a mighty princess from beyond the stars, and a strong hearted prince with the ability to become any animal he saw.

The heroes tackled problems big and small, making names for themselves as individuals and as a team. The dark sorceress's father guided the young team, taking them in as his own children. Before long, the heroes sought to leave the field of battle and have families of their own. The Bird and the Princess married and gave birth to a powerful young princeling, dark of looks and light of power. The knight settled down with a luck making witch, their twin daughters gifted with the magic of machines. And the dark sorceress fell in love with the shape changing prince, giving birth to a daughter named for the mighty king.

And so they became a family, each looking out for the other, living a quiet life away from battle.

"But did they live happily ever after?" Trinity asked, already knowing the answer.

"They remained happy and loved to this day." Raven said with a smile, "Get some sleep little bird, I'm going to call your Grandpa and talk to him about your dream."

Walking out of her daughter's room, Raven walked down the stairs to her private office in the basement. Here she kept the magical trinkets she had acquired during her time with the Titans. Walking over to a large mirror mounted on the far wall, Raven pricked her finger with a dagger kept under the mirror and quickly wrote a handful of runes upon the reflective surface. As the glass fogged, a figure appeared through the mist.

White haired and horned, with four large blood red eyes, the former lord of chaos known as Trigon the Terrible appeared before his daughter, dressed in a set of silk pajamas.

"Daughter, how wonderful to see you!" He called, "Tell me darling, how are things with your family?"

"Everyone is fine, dad," She replied, "Gar is working on a new book of animal knowledge and I've been training your lovely granddaughter. In fact, she's the reason I'm calling. She had a nightmare about a shiny man in a blue cape who was bad mouthing you, me and little Trinity. Sound like anyone we need to worry about?"

"Unfortunately, yes," Trigon replied, a cold look coming over his features, "That sounds like Dr Fate. Don't you worry pumpkin, I'll have a word with the Lords of Order and make sure they keep to the amnesty they offered when I turned traitor."

"Thanks, Daddy," Raven said sweetly, "You should come over some time soon, I know all the kids would love to see you."

"Of course," He replied with a smile, viewing all of the next generation Titan's as his grandchildren, "I'll be by sometime this weekend. I'll call ahead this time though I promise."

"See you then dad," She replied, placing a hand gently on the mirror's surface, "Take care of yourself and mom."

"Will do, kiddo." Trigon replied, "I'll keep the Lords of Order of our backs. Bye sweety."

"Bye dad." She answered, releasing the magic back into the universe before going back upstairs to her husband.

Having one big happy family really was a dream come true for Raven, even if she still had to ask her dad to chase away the occasional nightmare.

AN 2: Surprise! Trinity Logan, named for her Grandfather Trigon. I might expand on this universe later. Either this one or the Gender Bend. Also, shout out to NightmareMuse for favoriting and following the story. Remember, R&R to fee the machine. Peace
