Chapter 7

After a dinner of turkeys, potatoes, peas, and gravy, Calypso and Draco got into the fireplace to use the floo network back to Hogwarts. Lucius was already there since he was still the emergency headmaster. When they arrived, it was already quite late and the castle was empty except for the occasional prefect.

They waited for Daphne in Snape's office and when she finally appeared, they all walked back to the Slytherin dormitories together. Calypso was just about to go down the steps when Daphne tugged on her arms. "Look, what's that?"

Calypso looked in the direction of Daphne's finger and saw a door open ajar with a silvery light coming from inside.

"I don't know"

Daphne clapped her hands together. "Let's go see"

Draco sighed. "Fine"

"Well if you two are going, I'm going" so the three of them walked down the hallway to the light.

When Daphne pushed the door open fully, they could see a giant mirror.

"Wait! That looks like a bigger version of the one Theo was cursed with"

Daphne shook her head. "His had designs on it. Can we see what it does? I won't touch it" Daphne promised.

Calypso shrugged and Daphne stood in front of the mirror. "Wow," she whispered softly.

"What do you see?"

"Me? I see all my family and friends smiling. And Theo, he's alive. Do you think it shows the future?"

Draco shook his head. "What does that say?"

Calypso squinted at the engraved writing. 'Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi'

"Something about Erised"

Daphne snapped her fingers. "I've heard of it before! It- it shows...your hearts desires I think"

That caught Calypso's attention. "Oh! Let's all have a go then. That's interesting"

Daphne nodded and stepped aside for Draco. "Well?" she prompted.

"Uh, gold, and er- gold just gold. And someone who looks like Daphne" Draco muttered, "But mostly gold. Tons of it"

"And Calypso?"

Calypso moved to the front of the mirror. She could see her parents out of Azkaban again, and Voldemort was happy with the world, there was no more war, he had won, but Earth was still bright and beautiful.

"I see..my parents, and a perfect world after the Dark Lord won."

"That's cool. I wonder if we can see each other's desires"

Daphne shrugged. "Let's try it. Just all stand in front of the mirror"

But when they all stood in front of it, the mirror was blank again. "Strange" muttered Draco. Then they all froze as the sound of footsteps got nearer.

Daphne's eyes widened and she shoved open the door. "Quick, down the stairs. If it's Dumbledore, we're as good as dead"

They nodded in agreement and hurried down the stairs, down two levels.

Calypso panted, "S-sit down. Please?"

Daphne nodded. "Here, we can sit in there" she pointed at a corridor.

"No!" Draco suddenly yelped. "That's where I saw the three-headed dog"
Calypso frowned. "What? This is ages away from the trophy room." she pushed open the door. "See-"

Her words were cut short when the head of a dog whipped into view. "SEE?!" Draco yelped.

"Sorry" she whispered meekly and shoved the door back shut.

Daphne gasped, "Why in Merlin's beard is it here?"

"Maybe it's supposed to guard something?"

Calypso nodded, "Yeah maybe."

"Now can we PLEASE get back to the common room?"

"Not so fast" came a drawling voice from behind them.

"Zeren!"

He narrowed his eyes, "What are you three doing?"

"What are you doing here?" retorted Daphne.

"You must be his girlfriend"

"So what if I am?"

"So it's interesting that you actually like him."

"It's none of your business"

"Of course it is. I'm his older brother"

Daphne's eyes widened. "Wha-"

"He never told you, did he? He likes to pretend I don't exist too."

Draco coughed into his hand. "Really, well this is an interesting conversation but can we get back to the dungeons"

Zeren mockingly bowed. "Well don't make me get in your way"

"Wait, what are you doing here?"

"I just happen to be the Head Boy"

"You are?" asked Daphne incredulously.

"I hope you don't judge all Notts by how Theodore acts."

"No" agreed Daphne. "I thought they would be nicer"

"Last warning, get back to your dorms" sneered Zeren.

Calypso didn't wait to be told twice, she dragged Draco and Daphne down the next set of stairs to the second floor.

But no sooner were they stopped again.

"Oh look, Freddie. Ickle little Slytherins sneaking out at night. Naughty naughty."

"Shut up" growled Daphne.

"Disgusting blood traitors" Draco agreed.

"Ahh! Miss Lestrange and her sidekicks"

"I'm not her sidekick" snarled Draco.

She poked him with the tip of her wand. "Yes you are"

"Humph!"

Calypso ignored her and turned back to the twins. "What do you two want?"

"Nothing"

"Then move"

"Of course-"

"-M'lady" finished Twin 2.

Daphne shoved past them into the next staircase down to the dungeons. "I swear- annoying blood traitors."

"How old is Astoria?" Draco suddenly asked.

Daphne narrowed her eyes at him. "You're all she ever talks about."

"I- I am?"

"Mhm"

"Well, how old is she?"

"Two years younger than me"

"Oh"

Calypso interrupted them, "we're here now" and after saying the correct password, they walked into the empty common room. "Goodnight"

" 'Night"

The next morning, the term had started again.

One muddy week, Lucius had gotten a bit of bad news and Dumbledore would be resuming his post as headmaster. Nobody knew the real reason but Calypso had heard from Draco that Nicholas Flamel, a prized alchemist, had vouched for Dumbledore. So now we were back with having McGonagall and Dumbledore.

Daphne and I were walking to the library with Draco to do research for our leg-locker jinxes when Longbottom bumped into Draco.

"Bam thump thump"

I spun around just in time to see Draco's books drop to the ground.

He snarled, "Watch where you're going squib"

"S-s-sorry" Longbottom stuttered.

"You know, we've been looking for someone to practice on" sneered Draco. "Would you like to volunteer?"

"N-no"
Draco didn't even wait for his answer, "Locomotor Mortis!"

Calypso sneered, "have fun Longbottom" then followed Daphne out of the library before Saint Dumbledore could come.

The next afternoon, they all walked out onto the Quidditch pitched where for some reason, Snape was referring. However, he probably wouldn't have a chance to be biased since Dumbly had come out as well.

When the two teams came out, Snape looked absolutely murderous. Draco insisted on sitting behind Longbottom and also insisted on sitting with us since Crabbe and Goyle were doing whatever. Blaise, who seemed to be avoiding us, sat at the opposite side of the pitch.

I sat directly behind Potter while Daphne sat behind the mudblood and Draco sat behind Weasley. Longbottom was to our left and as promptly as the match started, Draco started taunting them. "You know how I think they choose people for the Gryffindor team?" said Malfoy loudly as Snape awarded Hufflepuff another penalty for no reason at all.

"It's people they feel sorry for. See, there used to be Potter, who's got no parents, then there's the Weasleys, who've got no money - you should be on the team, Longbottom, you've got no brains."

Longbottom went bright red but turned in his seat to face us.

"I'm worth twelve of you, Malfoy," he stammered.

We all burst into laughter, "Longbottom, if brains were gold you'd be poorer than Weasley, and that's saying something."

"I'm warning you, Malfoy - one more word" threatened Weasley and Potter.

Suddenly, the Gryffindor seeker screamed, "Ahh! BIRD!"

Snape spun his broom, around. "You foolish child, that's the snitch"

"Oh."

Jordan's voice came from the stands, "150 TO 20 FOR GRYFFINDOR!"
The whole Slytherin stand groaned and it could be heard from across the fields. As they were walking back, something caught their attention. Out on the fields, a dingy old hut was glowing red.

Draco sneered, "What's the filthy half-breed up to now?"

Calypso shrugged, "Don't care, let's get back. I can't believe the ministry let him back. She was just about to open the Great Hall doors when Artemis flew onto her shoulder. "Art- oh! Thank you" she took the letter from Artemis. It had the stamp on it.

When Daphne saw it, she grew pale. "Theo-"
Calypso's eyes widened. "No, no, no, no." she opened the black envelope with shaking hands.
