Chapter 8
Warning. Explicit language, Violence and a triggering flashback with war related themes.
After a evening filled with light hearted laughing and talking both Lucky and Bucky had let their defence down. She hadn't called him a bad name all afternoon and he thought that was progress. They both sat on the bed, Bucky with his back against the headboard and Lucky led on her front holding her chin in her hands watching a movie. Bucky sat with his arms folded frowning at the TV, he had never really watched movies let alone romantic movies. Lucky smiled as she watched "You know what this is such a good movie, I love the ending" She commented out loud gaining his attention.
A faint smile crossed his lips as he watched her, she looked relaxed for the first time "You remember it, what's it called?" Bucky asked not really caring about the movie, more the fact she had recalled a memory.
She still had her eye glued to the screen as she watched the two lovers row a boat in the rain. "I remember, I watched it when I was a kid... I think. It's called the notebook" She told him.
Bucky looked back up to the screen and watched the lovers in the movie go from laughing to crying to making out in the rain all in the space of a minute, his cheeks began to feel hot, he'd never seen this type of thing on TV before. He cleared his throat "It's... romantic" he mumbled trying not to sound embarrassed.
Lucky didn't realise the strain in his voice, she was busy watching the movie and dreaming of a life like that. "Yeah but at the same time it's unrealistic" She said scrunching her nose up a little.
Bucky cocked his head frowned. "How so?" He asked in a confused voice.
She sighed and sprung up from the bed now sitting with her legs crossed, she turned to him and pulled a face "Like he would actually write to her everyday for a year. Come on look at him! You just know that if this was real life he would of moved on in a matter of weeks. It's not real" she told him matter of factly.
He scoffed and shook his head disagreeing with her sentiment "He would write to her if he loved her" He stated.
She rolled her eyes and turned back to the TV "Well I guess it's set in the olden days so I guess maybe guys where just different then" She mumbled shrugging it off.
Bucky was staring at her as she watched the movie. "We were" He said with a small smile on his face.
He heard her giggle. "Old man" she muttered under her breath just loud enough for him to hear. He smiled again and went back to watching the movie. Just a few seconds later there was a knock on the door and both of them jumped and looked over at it.
Lucky quickly turned to Bucky with a fearful look in her eye. "Don't open it" She whispered as she crawled a little closer to him on the bed.
He smiled softly at her and began to get up. "It's okay" he reassured her, she panicked as he stood and walked over to the door.
"Please don't" she begged with wide fearful eyes. She didn't want to witness him killing more people, she'd only just got the sound of the man's neck snapping out of her head. Bucky ignored her and walked over to the door not even checking the peep hole before he opened it. He pulled the door open and Sam stood on the other side with a smile on his face. Her mouth dropped open and blood began to boil. "You called him?" She shrieked in anger.
Sam pushed past Bucky and entered the room pulling a face at Lucky. "I have a name" He dead panned. He turned to Bucky and shook his hand pulling him into a small hug. "Hey man got here as soon as I could" He told him.
Bucky smiled and let go of his friend. "I appreciate it".
Lucky jumped up from the bed and glared at Bucky, she felt a lump in her throat but tried to her best to ignore it. "You said I could trust you!" She shouted staring at the tall man.
Bucky turned to her and sighed. "Lucky he is here to help I promise" He told her honestly.
She twisted her mouth, she couldn't believe after the afternoon they'd had together he would ruin it by being dishonest. "Bullshit, why didn't you tell me?" she asked, the hurt was evident in her voice.
"You haven't exactly been on board with everything so far" He argued.
She clenched her teeth together. "Screw you Bucky, you're a liar" she shouted grabbing a pillow of the bed and throwing it at him, she knew it wouldn't do anything she was just so mad.
The Pillow hit him in the face and fell to the floor, he'd been half expecting her to throw something. "I didn't lie I just didn't tell you everything. Please just hear me out" He pleaded in a soft voice.
Sam stood looking perplexed, he'd never seen this side of Bucky and he was confused as to the whole situation. He suddenly threw both of his hands up in front of him "Now both of you stop" He yelled in a deep voice causing them both to stop and turn to him. He looked between them both and shook his head. "Now I don't know what this is" he began pointing at them both. "But I'm here for a reason I am guessing? So how about we all take a deep breath, calm down and talk... like adults" He demanded. Bucky folded his arms and rolled his eyes, Lucky had edged towards the bedside table and picked up a glass, Sam looked at her. "Lucky, would you put the glass down, please" he asked.
She was staring daggers at Bucky. "No" She spat.
Bucky looked away from her for a second and rolled his eyes. "Typical" He whispered to himself. Lucky launched the glass at his head, he ducked and it shattered on the wall behind him. Again he had been expecting it.
Sam's mouth dropped open. "Hell no" He yelled. "I did not come all this way to witness this shit. Now sit down" He shouted to the small woman. She frowned at him and sat back on the bed, Bucky watched her with a smirk on his face. "You too" Sam ordered looking at Bucky, Bucky's smirk fell and his arms sagged as he walked over to the bed to sit next to her making sure there was as much distance between them as possible. "What the hell is going on?" Sam asked in an annoyed voice. He thought he was here for a real reason but instead he'd walked in to a situation and immediately become a referee to there argument.
Lucky pointed at Bucky without looking at him. "He is keeping me hostage" she accused.
Bucky's mouth opened in shock. "Unbelievable... I am trying to help you" He stressed turning to look at her.
She folded her arms still choosing not to look at him. "Don't want or need it" she said childishly.
He shook his head frustrated with the way she was acting. "We have been over this you said you trusted me, I thought we were past this now Lucky. Why are you acting like a spoiled child?" He asked in an annoyed tone.
She shrugged. "You lied" she said simply.
Bucky rolled his eyes and turned to Sam who was staring at Bucky looking very confused. He took a deep breath "She was sent by Hydra to extract blood so they could make more serum. Long story cut short she failed her mission and ran, I found her and got her out of there before they killed her. She doesn't remember life before HYDRA or who she really is, I thought I could help her and she could help us" He summarised quickly, Sam stood nodding trying to quickly process the information that was being thrown at him.
Lucky scoffed and finally turned her head to look at Bucky. "What do you want, a thank you?" She asked sarcastic.
He almost laughed. "You know what... it would be nice" He retorted.
She looked up and laughed. "Fuck you dude" She said still smiling.
Sam stood watching them talk in silent amazement, he'd never seen anything like it and was definitely not expecting it. "Okay, both of you stop" He said with authority in his voice. He looked over at Lucky and noticed purple marks on her arms, for a second his eyes flicked to Bucky and then back to her. "Lucky what are those?" He asked pointing to her wrist.
She looked down to her wrist and back up to Sam, she narrowed her eyes and smiled sarcastic. "Your boyfriend thought it would be fun to tie me up" She said bitterly, Bucky closed his eyes and took a deep breath forcing himself not to speak and defend himself so another argument didn't break out.
Sam smirked and looked at Bucky. "You kinky son of a bitch" He mocked.
Bucky opened his eyes and glared at his friend. "Not like that" he mumbled unamused.
"And he made me sleep on the floor. He claims he's a gentleman and thinks he can win you over with crappy street food and a story, but I know different" She bitterly snapped.
Sam arched one of his eyebrows and looked between the pair "I feel like I am missing a big piece of story here" he said slowly.
Bucky ignored Sam's comment completely and threw Lucky a sideways glance. "I took you for ice cream and watched that... erotic movie with you just now" He reminded her in defensive voice, he began to feel flustered forgetting Sam was standing right by the door. Sam's eyes widened in both shock and horror.
Her eyes widened and she let out a little laugh "You've kept me locked up for two days and dragged me across the county!" She said in a high pitched voice looking over at him. "And it wasn't erotic, maybe for a hundred year old but nowadays we call it romance stupid" She argued, Bucky was about to argue back but Sam jumped in.
"This isn't working, Bucky go outside" He said quickly. Bucky's bewildered expression from Lucky turned to Sam, he sat there with his mouth hanging open for a second.
"What?" He asked.
Sam nodded his head toward the door. "Out, I need to speak to Lucky and your clearly distracting her" He said.
Lucky smirked "Annoying me more like" She muttered under her breath, Bucky turned to her and opened his mouth to speak but was cut off again by Sam.
"Out" He ordered before Bucky could get a word in. Lucky sat on the bed smirking as Bucky got up and stormed out the room slamming the door behind him in a rage. Her smirk disappeared as soon as he was gone, she was more weary now as she looked over to Sam who was stood up straight staring right back at her. She looked him up and down, he was dressed in his flight suit and wearing black combat boots, the way he carried himself was proud and tough, he was confident she noticed.
After looking him up and down she narrowed her eyes a little at him suspiciously, they had only met once and that was before he knew she was working for HYDRA. She knew she had no reason to trust this man. "So what.. are you here to arrest me and take me to your avengers? Or are you going to pick apart my brain apart like he has been? good cop bad cop type of thing?" She quipped. He let out a little laugh and shook his head.
"Nah" He said with a smile. He crossed his arms and looked towards the door before looking back at Lucky. "I've just never seen Bucky this worked up with anyone and I want him to stew for a while. He kind of left me high and dry back home with our mission" He told her in a quite voice with a smile on his face. She grinned at the comment unintentionally.
"Cruel, I like it" She said. Sam grabbed a chair and dragged it over to her, he sat down in it across from her leaning forward a little. She sat back on the bed a little, already feeling defensive.
He offered her another toothy smile showing her that he wasn't a threat but her expression of suspicion didn't change. "So your Hydra" He stated.
"And you're an avenger" She responded to the obvious comment. Sam smiled he suddenly realised how a girl with attitude like this could make a man like Bucky go crazy. The thought of Bucky trying to reason with her made him smile.
He nodded at her. "That's what they say on the news" He quipped.
She was silent for a while looking at him, she finally broke eye contact and wrapped her arms around her body. Sam noticed every move she made, and worked out every tell she had, he could tell she was putting on a tough act when in reality she was scared. "I don't know what Bucky told you" She began before stopping.
Sam pursed his lips together. "Not much" He admitted.
She began to play with the hem of her dress, twirling it in-between her fingers, she was nervous Sam deduced. "I worked for Hydra, I don't remember how or why. It's not like the winter soldier I am not brain washed, but I have no memory's. They kept me there and … I don't know. They sent me on a mission to collect Bucky's blood but I failed. I wanted to succeed but there was just something that kept stopping me, I don't know" He could tell by her tone she was frustrated and confused, he felt bad for the girl, she reminded him a little bit of Bucky when they had first met.
"So why'd you do it if you weren't forced?" He asked softly.
She didn't speak for a while because she didn't know the answer. She remembered back to one of the arguments she'd had with Bucky and remembered what he had said to her, the hurtful comment that stuck. "Bucky said it was Stockholm syndrome. I really think he loves me though … Thought, I guess he's changed his mind" She said with a sigh.
Sam cocked his head to the side. "Who?" he asked.
"Tom Decker, Hydra leader" She said simply.
"Your boyfriend?" He asked.
She smiled and shook her head. "He said once I finished my mission he'd take care of me but now I guess he is trying to kill me" She said in a sad voice.
Sam crossed his arms and sat back in his chair. "Sounds like an asshole" He told her. She quickly grabbed the TV controlled and went to fling it at Sam but he already had his hand held up. "Don't" He warned. "I'm not a 99 year old brooding mess and I will kick your ass if you throw something at me" He told her with a cocky smile. She pouted and dropped the controller back onto the bed.
Sam sat back in his chair relaxing again. "You're his best friend? You're so different" she commented causing Sam to laugh he knew that to be the truth, he would of been almost offended is she said they where alike. "Bucky wants to help me remember so I can help you take Hydra down" She said quietly.
"Would you be willing to do that?" He asked.
She bit her lip and had a ad look in her eye. "Will you kill Decker?" she whispered.
He sat forward and rested his elbows on his knees. "Only if he tries to kill me" He told her honestly, she nodded that was fair enough she thought to herself. She didn't know why even now she didn't want any harm to come to him, or why she felt like she still had to protect him. Sam interrupted her thoughts before she could dwell on it any longer. "Lucky sometimes life doesn't make sense and it's hard to know what the right thing to do is. You have my word that me and Buck will keep you protected, no harm will come to you from us. But you're valuable, in your head there could be so many secrets we need to take these people down, these bad people. We could stop them doing this" He explained to her.
"Doing what?" she asked softly.
He sighed and looked her up and down. "What they did to you" He told her. "And him" He nodded towards the door talking about Bucky who stood on the other side. "You could save lives" He added.
She stared at the door for a few seconds thinking about the Winter Solider, she had read all about him, she knew every mission he'd been on and was aware that he was tortured. "They really hurt him didn't they?" she asked softly still staring at the door. Sam didn't answer. "I'll help you" she sighed as she spoke.
Sam smiled a little "And you won't run or attack us?" he asked raising a brow to her, she turned back to him and smirked.
"Can't promise I won't throw something at Bucky" she joked.
He smiled at her and nodded. "Thank you, you have my word we will protect you" He told her, she nodded and smiled she did believe him but she was still scared. "Should we let him back in?" Sam asked with a grin on his face.
She laughed "I guess" She said.
Sam looked over to the door. "BARNES" He yelled. Seconds later the door clicked open, Bucky stood with his face set in an unamused expression, he looked at Sam sat in front of a smiling Lucky and immediately felt annoyed.
"This is cosy" He muttered as her stepped into the room.
Sam laughed. "Tinkerbell's on our side, she going to help us bring Hydra down" He told him in a proud voice.
Bucky gritted his teeth suppressing the urge to scream in frustration, of course Sam had gotten her on board so easily. "After just 10 minutes you're willing to help him" He said to her with a fake smile.
She smirked at him. "He's nice" she mocked.
Sam turned and grinned at his annoyed friend. "I'm nice" He repeated.
Bucky rolled his eyes and walked over to his spot on the bed sitting down on it. "Tell him about your dream, that's the reason I brought him here" He told her.
Her brows furrowed in confusion. "My dream?" she questioned, Bucky nodded and Sam was wearing a similar expression to Lucky wondering how he was supposed to help her with a dream.
Bucky's eyes pleaded with her "Please, it sounds families like something Sam's talked about before" he urged. She sighed and nodded and him turning her attention now to Sam. She told him in as much detail as she could remember what she had told Bucky earlier in the day, Sam listened and nodded along as she spoke, when she finally finished and looked at Bucky and nodded now understanding why he'd been called.
"The army?" He said it almost sounding like a question, Bucky nodded back at him. Both men where soldiers but both had two very different sets of memories from the wars they had served in, Lucky s sounded more like Sam's. "Sound's like a tour I did once" am commented looking back to Lucky.
She held her head in her hand. "Maybe?" She mumbled.
Sam took out his cell phone and typed a few words. "Do these uniforms look familiar?" He asked turning his phone around to face Lucky, she looked up from her hands and scanned through the google images she was shown.
Her brain felt like it had been shocked when she saw one she recognised. "That one. That's mine" she said pointing at the picture, she sounded excited that she'd remembered. Sam smiled and took the phone back looking at the uniform she would of worn. Lucky turned to Bucky forgetting about there argument that happened minutes before and smiled at him with an excited twinkle in her eye. "I remember wearing that" she whispered to him, He smiled with his teeth at her genuinely happy for her.
"You where a soldier Lucky, I'm guessing judging by your age and the uniform you may of been in Iraq or Syria somewhere like that. Does that sound familiar?" He asked as he slid the phone back into his pocket. Her excitment faded into a sad look as she shook her head. "You said something about an explosion?" He asked.
"That's where the dream always ends" She told him.
"Do you think something happened to her during the explosion and she is remembering through the dream?" Bucky suggested.
Sam chewed his bottom lip and looked at her, she was so small and dainty he had a hard time picturing her as a solider. "Maybe... It's worth thinking about" he mumbled quietly. He placed a hand on her shoulder and smiled. "Get some sleep tinkerbell" He told her before pulling away and standing up.
Bucky rose from the bed. "Need me to come with you to get you a room?" He asked.
Sam laughed and slapped Bucky on the back "Hey man I may not be pumped of super serum but I was in Iraq okay, I'm a soldier too. I'll sleep outside, it's a nice night" he told him in his usual cocky attitude.
Bucky smiled, he'd be lying if he said he didn't miss Sam's company the last few days. "I'm going to stay and keep watch... in case they find us" Bucky told him.
Sam nodded and smiled. "Alright man, I'm going to make some calls and see if I can get any information on this one. Night tinkerbell" He called over Bucky's shoulder to Lucky who was still sat on the bed.
She smiled at him finally beginning to trust the man, she'd only spoken to him for a short time but he'd helped her remember and she was thankful. "Night Sam" she chirped. Sam left the room and Bucky locked the door behind him, Lucky was now lead back in the bed stretching her legs out.
Bucky lingered by the door for a few seconds looking at her. "Tinkerbell?" He asked in a confused voice.
She smiled "A fairy from a children's book, she's small" She told him. He nodded and walked over to the bed grabbing a pillow off it and throwing it into the chair Sam had been sat in. Lucky watched him as he slid of his jacket and boots and began to get ready for the night. Guilt was creeping in on her, she knew she had been hard work and that he was only trying to help. She kept forgetting that he was damaged too and of course he knew how she felt, she sighed before finally building up the courage to speak. "Bucky" she said quietly getting his attention, he turned to her now wearing just a pair of black pants and a plain white shirt. "I am sorry for the way I have been. You have helped me and I am thankful" she told him quietly.
Bucky turned away quickly and shrugged not wanting to let his guard down around her again. "S'not a problem" He told her.
She watched as he pulled his socks off one at a time and shoved them back into his bag. He walked into the bathroom and she heard the water run, he was getting in the shower. After about ten minutes he emerged from the bathroom wearing simple black pants and nothing else, he was still damp and his stubble was getting thicker by the hour. She dragged her eyes off his body and stared down at the bed trying to think of what to say next. She knew he deserved more than a half hearted apology.
"I said you where nothing before... that's not true" She began. Bucky stopped what he was doing and turned to her, She'd also gotten changed she was now wearing an oversized black shirt and nothing else. She looked up at him daring to make eye contact "I don't remember having anyone in my life apart from Decker and now thinking about it he wasn't always kind to me. You have been kind Bucky... you're an annoying asshole at times but so am I. You're the closest thing to a friend I have and I'm glad it's you I'm stuck with and not someone like Decker" She said softly. Bucky's heart was beating hard against his chest, he hadn't expected that from her he didn't know how to respond he stood there for a few seconds with a blank expression.
Lucky broke the eye contact and looked back down suddenly feeling embarrassed. "Get some sleep, we will talk in the morning" He told her softly.
She led down in the bed and rested her hair against the soft pillow. "Night Bucky" she said softly without looking up.
"Night Doll" He barely whispered. He sat down in the chair and lent back, this was his bed for the night and he knew it was Karma for how he made her sleep the night before. He didn't mind he knew she needed a good night sleep, he could go days without sleeping at it didn't really bother him. He watched her as she faded away into a deep sleep, his palm began to sweat as he watched her, his mind replaying the words she had spoken just before sleeping. Did she really trust him? She said she was glad she was stuck with him... Bucky closed his eyes and groaned. Part of him thought it would just be easier to fall asleep and let Tony Stark haunt him, it would be easier to deal with another nightmare than trying to work out this woman.
The sound of gunfire and screams filled the air, she was lead on her front looking through the scope of her gun with her eyes on a target, with a little pressure on the trigger another loud bang added to the chaos. A tall man ran through the smoke and gun fire throwing himself to the sandy ground next to her kicking up dust. "Sergeant! they are everywhere, they have us pinned down and I'm low on ammo" The young man yelled as he clutched his gun tight to his chest. She didn't look up, kept eyes on her targets slowly picking them off one by one.
The man watched with wide eyes as body's fell around them. "We have to get the primary extracted and get out of here. Do you have the location of the primary?" she shouted over the gun fire.
The young man shook his head as tears pricked at his eyes. "They are shooting at woman and children for fuck sake man" He said trying to fight back tears as he witnessed the horror.
She snapped her head up from her scope and grabbed him by his camo jacket pulling him closer to her. "Focus Jones don't loose your head now, ya hear me?" She ordered. Just as she spoke she saw an object flying towards them. "Frag, cover" She yelled quickly jumping on top of him to cover him from any debris. She felt the explosion but luckily they had both gone uninjured. She jumped back up and grabbed her gun, ducking down to take cover again.
The young man named Jones fiddled around with blueprints of the building, the paper was torn and creased, she could tell he was panicking. "They... they a- are in the west part of the building, we are outnumbered" He said again holding back his tears looking around him.
She exhaled through her nose and took the paper from his hand. "That never stopped us before" She told him. She pulled the strap of her gun off and passed him her weapon replacing his.
As she pulled it off he screamed "Sarge!" He yelled as he pushed her in the chest knocking her down, just as that happened bullets ripped past her all missing her. Jones popped up from behind a wall and fired shots killing the men shooting at her.
She ran her hands over her chest with wide eyes. "That was Lucky" She whispered. She shook the near death experience off and jumped up. "Hang back and watch my six private" She ordered earning nothing but a nervous nod from the young soldier.
She pulled out a hand gun and began to make her way closer from the building, she looked back at the soldier who nodded for her to continue as he shot men down in the process. An explosion went off near by causing her to fall. The young solider began to run over to her with wide eyes thinking she was hurt. She turned off her stomach on onto her back and saw him out in the open. "Jones get down!" She screamed reaching her hand out in front of her as if she could stop him. Jones suddenly stopped wide eyed as he realised he had no cover, he looked at her directly before a bullet ripped through his neck sending him flying to the ground hitting the sand beneath him.
Her breathing was rapid as she scrambled up from the ground and crawled to him dragging him to cover by his legs. It was no easy task given her size compared to his. "Man down!" she screamed through her radio. Jones stared at her as he body jerked around beneath her hands. She pressed her hands to the wound on his neck and his eyes widened, his blood splattered skin began to pale and blood bubbled in the corners of his mouth. "Can ya hear me Jones, c'mon don't die" She ordered in a rough voice. He jerked underneath her for about twenty seconds before his body completely relaxed, she shook her head and bit back tears. Pulling her blood soaked hands away and wiping them on her jacket. She grabbed her radio that was attached to her jacket "Retreat, I repeat Retreat, man down" She screamed orders down the radio. She wasted no time pulling her gun of the young mans dead body. "Leave now I'll cover you" She shouted again.
"What about you and what about the primary?" a panic stricken voice called through her radio.
She gritted her teeth together and looked down at one of her men she'd already lost, she had no plans to loose another. "Leave that's an order squad" She screamed. As she watched her men starting to retreat and jump into their jeeps she ran forward taking out any man who tried to blow their tyres out.
"Sarge? … Sergeant!" Voices called out through the radio but she didn't respond she was busy trying to take as many men out as she could.
Suddenly she was knocked from her feet completely and thrown six feet in the air another explosion. When she landed back down on the sandy floor her head lolled to the side. Her squad was leaving, she smiled as she choked blood and sand up. Her leg was mangled, she only realised when she looked down, her eyes widened in shock and then the pain hit her. She jerked around on the floor dropping her firearm, she screamed and tried clutching at her leg before she started to black out. As she everything started to fade to black she heard a familiar voice.
She felt a hand on her neck. "She's alive" The voice stated. The voice chuckled "Sergeant, looks like its your lucky day" The voice said in a menacing tone. She tried to look up but between the blood seeping into her eyes and the sunlight her vision was completely impaired."Take her" The voice commanded. She felt hands grabbing at her arms and they began to drag her through the sand causing her to scream in pain.
"We've retreated Sarge! … Sarge come in!" she heard call through the radio, she stopped screaming and everything went black.
Bucky's eyes flew open when he heard an ear piercing scream, the room was pitch black but that didn't stop him. He lunged forward off his chair and jumped straight onto the bed expecting to attack someone trying to hurt her. When he reached her he realised it was her alone in bed screaming, he lent over her and flicked the bedside light on. Her cheeks where wet from crying and she was rolling around in what looked like pain screaming out. Bucky grabbed her by her shoulders to stop her moving so she didn't hurt herself. "Lucky" He called out. Her eyes shot open and she gasped in fear. "What is it are you in pain?" His voice was filled with worry.
She looked him in the eye. "I'm a Sergeant!" She yelled through her tears, he loosened his grip on her and sat back staring at her utterly confused. She led there sobbing "Jones is dead, they shot him in the fucking neck, he was just a kid" She screamed. Bucky's eyes where wide as he tried to figure out what she was talking about. He reached out to touch her arm but her hands flew quickly to his leg causing him to stop. "My leg, oh god... It hurts, so much blood" She sounded like she was in agony as she cried out.
Bucky Looked down at her bare leg, there was no blood, his concern began to grow more and more. He realised she must still be dreaming somehow. He grabbed her by her shoulders and sat her upright, she screamed in agony as he moved her, feeling like her leg was hanging off. "You're awake you're just remembering it's fine, you're okay" He told her as he wrapped his arms around her holding her tightly.
She pushed him off her and grabbed his face with one hand forcing him to look at her bare uninjured leg. "It's covered in blood I think an artery has been hit. They are taking me away, Let go of me soldier and retreat" She yelled at him with tears streaming down her face. She looked back down at her leg and tried coving the imaginary wound. Bucky climbed on top of her, her legs now underneath him. She screamed in pain again.
He reached out and grabbed her face in his hands and forced her head up. "Look at me" He shouted in a panicked voice, he'd never witnessed anything like this and had no idea how he could help her.
She bit her teeth together and hit him on his chest. "Get out, retreat now leave me that is an order!" She barked.
His eyes softened "Lucky" He whispered with a horrified expression on his face. She actually looked like she was in agony, dying even and it was haunting to witness.
She brought her hands up to her throat and clawed at it. "I can't breath" she choked. "It hurts... Tell my mother I'm sorry" She whispered.
He still had hold of her head, he now forced her head to look down. "Look at your leg, look at it!" He yelled forcing her to look at the bare leg he was kneeling above. "It's in your head, you're with me and you're safe" He told her letting go of her head. She didn't look up she just touched her leg again. "It's me Bucky" He pleaded.
Tears continued to fall from her eyes. "Help me" She whispered. He instinctively wrapped his arms around her and pulled her tight against his body, she felt weightless almost like a rag doll. She made no attempt to fight him off or even hold herself up. "Don't let them take me private, I don't want to die" She sobbed into his chest. He climbed off her and sat back on the bed pulling her on top of him. her head rested on his shoulder and her legs where in-between his, she clung to him as she cried.
He let out a shaky breath and squeezed her tightly. "I won't Sergeant but I really need you to wake up now" He said using the rank she had mentioned. She continued to sob into his shoulder. He bent his head down and rested his forehead on her hair. "Wake up" He whispered.
Suddenly she jumped causing him to lift his head. She attempted to pull away from him so he loosened his grip on her. She sat up between his legs still slightly resting on his chest. She shakily ran a hand through her raven hair. "Oh my god" she whispered, Her eyes darted and made contact with his, he looked terrified. "I'm sorry" she whispered before she began to breakdown again. "I-I don't know what happened, I'm so sorry" She whispered repeating an apology to him over and over, his heart sank and he pulled her back into a tight embrace against his chest.
"Lucky" He whispered.
She buried her face into his chest and curled up onto him, he brought his legs up slightly so she felt safe and surrounded, he knew what anxiety felt like and knew she needed to feel safe. "Don't let them take me again" She sobbed into him.
His arms where wrapped tightly around her shaking body, he rested his head on top of hers. "It's never going to happen, I promise" He whispered into her hair.
Her breath hitched "Don't leave me behind even if I ask you too" Her voice cracked.
He closed his eyes feeling his heart sinking even lower. "I'm here" He told her in a calm voice even though he felt anything but calm. He stroked her back with his fingers absent-mindedly but it seemed to soothe her a little. "Shh you're gonna be alright doll, promise" He whispered again. She didn't speak after that, she cried for another five or ten minutes before passing out into another deep sleep. Bucky didn't move from that position as she clung to him, he didn't attempt to get any more sleep either.
Two updates in one week woooo. I was exited to write the flashback not going to lie. I've got a lot of family in the army and I wanted to join myself but unfortunately I couldn't but it's something I am so fascinated by.
The update came so quickly because I had so much help with spelling from my friend, so big thank you to AP you're a doll.
Thanks to anyone who has Fave, followed or reviewed so far.
