Two months later ..

Joy was feeling more and more confident about herself.

She was starting to let other people into her life. Playing with interns and a few kids in the science club.

She spent her days in the lab, nights with her mother and calls from her father at bedtime.

And she love the weekends with Parker and his father.

And Hannah sometimes, but usually Hannah made up some work and didn't participate in her activities.

Which Joy thought was great, because she didn't really like the woman.

And with the arrival of spring, Joy would face a great challenge, her first day of school.

She would be in the middle of the semester, but because she was in a museum all day, Joy had an advantage over her colleagues, she knew much of the content spent in her class.

Temperance and Booth had a big disagreement about the choice of school, Temperance wanted Joy to go to a private elite school, where the girl would have a privileged education.

Booth wanted a public school, where she could get her hands dirty and play with other children.

In the end they opted for a public school near the FBI where the children of the other agents would go.

It was a good deal and would be close to both.

Parker had also transferred to the same school as his sister.

And today was their first day of school.

Parker had spent Sunday night at Booth's, so that he and Joy could be together on the first day of school.

Joy was having a little nervous moment and for the first time in a long time she was having a tantrum.

—I don't want to go today! (Joy said and threw herself on the bed)

—Please Jolly. (Temperance asked smiling as he pulled his daughter to her feet) You need to go, we can't postpone this.

—But my tummy hurts! (Joy exclaimed after letting her hand tidy up her clothes)I think I better go tomorrow mommy!

Parker was excited, jumping nonstop in the back seat of the car.

Booth parked in the Temperance parking lot and texted that he was already waiting.

—Are they going to be long? (Parker asked excitedly) They have to be quick, because I don't want to waste a minute.

—Hey man, remember this is about your sister too. (Booth reminded his son)

—I know dad (the boy said and rolled his eyes), but it's so much fun! A new school is really cool!

Temperance tapped on the passenger window to warn of their presence and opened the back door to help Joy sit in her car seat.

Booth parked the car near the school.

Parker took the backpack and went down and Joy went down with her mother's help and put the backpack on.

Joy swallowed hard as she looked at the large building in front of her.

She sighed and gently shook hands with both parents.

Parker was so excited that he was walking in front of them.

—Can we go back now? (She asked anxiously as they walked towards the school) I'm already here, I've looked and I didn't like it, we can go away.

—Only if you promise to give the school a chance.(Booth said and held the girl's hand) Do you promise to give it a chance?

—Okay, Daddy, you won.(Joy said and turned to him to put the necklace on.) I promise I'll try.

—That's my girl.(He said and kissed Joy's head) Ready to go?

—Yes… (She murmured and put her hand on the necklace) You are always with me, right?

Booth nodded and took Joy's hand.

Temperance Smiled when he saw his daughter finally giving school a chance.

—Come on! (Parker shouted from the school steps) you guys take too long!

—Lets go.. (Temperance said and held Joy's hand again)

Joy sighed and looked between the parents and sighed.

The three walked towards the school entrance and the principal was waiting for them.

The director, Mrs Willis was kind and knew Joy's situation.

So she was much kinder and softer to her, even more so as she was the daughter of a famous writer and an FBI agent.

Dr. Brennan could give a nice, fat donation to school, so she would be very kind to both children.

Parker was assigned to his office first and as soon as he entered, he was already assigned to a colleague.

He made friends very quickly.

They watched the boy interact with colleagues.

After a few minutes they went to Joy's class.

Joy was so nervous.

—That's your class Joy. (Miss Willis said) Would you like to come and meet your class?

She grabbed her mother's coat and hid her face against it.

—Come on Joy, we'll come with you if you want.(Booth said while stroking her hair)

Joy pulled away from her mother and looked at the open door.

It seemed to be a calm and controlled environment, just children and a young teacher.

And she had to be strong like her parents.

She had heard so many stories about them ..

Well, she had to be like them and face her challenges alone.

Temperance and booth looked at each other and smiled.

They each gave Joy a brief kiss on the cheek and then she took Miss Willis's hand.

—Lets go? (The principal asked the girl)

Joy nodded and the two entered.

—Excuse me Miss Carmen, I would like to introduce your new student (She put Joy in front of her) This is Joy Booth-Brennan.

—Welcome, Joy. (Miss Carmen said and shook her hand in greeting) Shall we give Joy a big, warm welcome? (She said to the children)

The children shouted out loud to their new classmate.

Joy laughed and looked at the door looking for the eyes of her parents who nodded and smiled at her.)

- Let's be very nice to Joy, you know how scary the first day can be. (The teacher said) Welcome again sweet, you can sit with Lucy, over there.

Joy sat down and went to sit down.

Booth and Temperance finally let out the breath they didn't even know he was holding.

Relief. She went in there alone and was ready to face it like a big girl.

Temperance and Booth smiled looking at the girl who had shaken her colleague's hand while introducing herself to her.

Without realizing it, Booth took Temperance's hand while looking at Joy through the door window.

The woman shook hands with both of them and smiled as she walked away.

Temperance and Booth stared through the small window for a while longer.

Joy and her new classmate, Lucy, were talking animatedly.

Joy was pointing at her necklace.

—I think we have to go to work now(Temperance said)

—Stop it, she'll be fine. (Temperance said and punched her playfully in the arm)

Temperance laughed and pulled Booth by the arm as they left the school.

Joy and Parker were in good hands.

After leaving school, Booth left Temperance at the Jeffersonian and went to the FBI.

He had some paperwork to finish the last case.

But he couldn't concentrate, all he thought about was Joy at the new school.

Was she okay?

Was she gone. Adapting?

Oh, he was an overprotective father with his little girl.

He really lost track of time because he only realized it was midday because Hannah knocked on his office door asking him to lunch.

He went on autopilot, exchanged half a dozen words with her and let her guide the conversation.

His mind was on Joy and Parker on their first day of school.

He was barely paying attention to her.

Until he got a call.

Not from school.

Nor of Bones.

But of Pops ..

He spoke to the man for a while and as soon as he hung up he saw a smiling Hannah looking at him.

—Who are pops? (She asked excitedly)

—My grandfather.(he murmured as he stirred the meal.)

—He's coming to visit me.(He said and sighed)
