It was boring, wandering around the Mikaelson's house. Especially when she didn't care about Klaus's paintings and Rebekah's discarded dresses. Caroline was not someone she was ready to talk to, and she was more worried about Elijah than anything. He was the only one who truly had cared about her. And not just her twins, but her. She found large books that looked like everyone's diaries back in Mystic Falls, and wondered whose this one was. Her good fortune was that it was in fact Elijah's.
She took it from its place on one of the many shelves around the rooms, and began reading. He was really good at writing, even though he was just talking to himself here. No lines, but it was legible and steady. How did someone who hadn't grown up reading and writing come to do this so well?
She was halfway through this particular diary when she decided to sit, and didn't want to use any of the old stuffy chairs littering the place. She instead sat cross-legged on the ground, barefoot, and put the book across her lap.
Over the centuries, Elijah had seen his siblings become something completely different than they'd once been. He explained in the pages that Rebekah used to be less prone to violence, and Klaus showed vast cruelty, to hide his loneliness. She hadn't seen that he was lonely before Elijah pointed it out, but now she thought back to a look in Klaus's eye from time to time, a dark deep sadness. And his violence being the worst she'd ever seen, so much so that she wanted to keep on the nice side of those claws and fangs, instead of risking his vengeful streak.
Elijah also noted Kol's murderous streak, how all he'd do all day and all night was kill and feed, feed and kill. Every one of his clothes was stained with blood, and Elijah had to remember to compel their new servants to not only forget they'd seen the blood when doing the laundry, but how to take it out completely.
Then there was the brother Finn, the oldest. And he was apparently a whiner, talking of nothing but how they were cursed now that they were vampires, and that they should go back to father and put them all out of their misery. No wonder Klaus kept him daggered in that coffin. No wonder Elijah helped most of the time with daggering Kol and Finn both, too. Sounds like a lot of drama they didn't need.
Elijah cared so much for them, she was in awe that he wanted to stick by them despite these huge changes. Love must be like that.
But he went back to something she knew, wanting to change them. He wanted them to be better people than they were and thought he could be the one to lead them back to that. She liked how much he wanted the best for them. But didn't care for how he wanted their family's 'legacy' to be remembered in a nicer way than it could be now. He wasn't in charge of them, not really. And they'd have to choose to become better people. Judging by how long they'd been violent and murderous, they didn't want to change. The Mikaelson 'legacy' was already set.
Hayley walked through the house, listening to voices while carrying Elijah's diary. Finally, she heard Rebekah and Klaus bickering. It was cut short when Caroline quipped something and she heard Klaus laugh. She turned into the room and all eyes were on her.
"I'd like to know what the plan is," Hayley greeted.
"Depends on what you mean, love." Klaus smiled as he spoke, leaning against the door frame. "My plan for world domination, or Rebekah's eternal plan to find true love."
Rebekah ghosted a smirk, and with a flash she flung something at him, he caught what was apparently a pencil before it got anywhere near him.
"Don't be a hypocrite, Klaus." Caroline chided him. Rebekah looked at her and smiled. Klaus blushed and looked away.
"I mean the plan to rescue Elijah." Hayley interjected before the subject changed. "I assume you have one?"
"What do you think I'm doing in here?" Caroline rhetorically.
"Well, I thought you were in here to flirt with Klaus until you needed to come smother me again." Hayley replied. Caroline glared at her and Klaus smiled to himself.
"Well, Marcel seems to be Klaus's mortal enemy now, and you know what he does to those people." Caroline said.
"Firstly, Marcel is not my mortal enemy. He's a friend. One that doesn't know I'm sabotaging his hold over the supernatural community, but a friend nonetheless." Klaus replied. Caroline crossed her arms and listened with curiosity.
"Elijah is in the hands of a particularly nasty little teenage witch. And Rebekah, please?" He gestured to her.
"The secondly, Klaus plans to simply ask Marcel for him back." Rebekah added with a fake smile.
"That isn't the whole plan, is it?" Hayley asked cautiously.
"Oh please, darling. Klaus may be a horrible sibling, but there is none more diabolical." Rebekah turned to her brother and smiled. Klaus nodded.
"That's only plan A, little wolf. There's always plans B through Z."
