Mystery Incorporated Kids!
Sorry it took me so long to update this story. I've had a bad case of writer's block and trying to figure out what happens next has been quite difficult for me. Anyway, here we go.
Disclaimer: I do not own Scooby-Doo or any of its characters. That would be the now-defunct Hanna-Barbera (and Warner Bros, Inc.).
Chapter 6
The phone rang in the residence of Fred and Daphne Jones. It was a call the kids of the new "Mystery Incorporated" had been waiting for.
"Kids!," Daphne shouted. "We want to talk to you for a minute."
Deanna and Mia came into the living room where their parents were sitting and watching TV, prepared to explain what they had to say to their daughters.
After Shaggy and Velma received a text from Daphne about the news, they proceeded to tell their kids about their first 'solo' job.
Coming into the family room, Velma gathered her children together. "Norville, Emma," she said to them. "We've got some great news for you."
"What is it, mom, dad?" Emma asked.
"Like, you guys are about to solve your first mystery alone!" said Shaggy.
Norville and Emma were totally elated to hear the news about their first solo mystery and asked what they were solving.
"Something strange has been happening in town lately, and they've been looking for detectives who are willing to solve this odd mystery," Velma explained to her kids.
"Like, a whole neighborhood has became more afraid of ghosts than Scoob or me," Shaggy replied. "And that's...scary."
"Well, I think we're up to it, mother," said Norville, Jr.
"Yeah, agreed Emma. "It may be a little scary, but I'll join in too."
Once both kids agreed to solve this mystery, Velma sent a text back to Daphne that confirmed the Rogers kids were more than happy to be a part of this.
The next day after school, Deanna, Mia, Norville, Jr., and Emma all conversed in a park across the street from their school, discussing how they would approach this new mystery.
"But we have no idea what kind of fiend we're dealing with," said Norville, Jr. "It might be best to know what the crook's disguise looks like."
"Well, I certainly don't want to find out," Emma said, sounding scared.
"Oh, don't be a scaredy cat," Deanna replied. "There's no such things as monsters."
Just then, a faint growl came from a nearby neighborhood, and the kids went to take a look at what was happening.
"I wonder if that's the crook," said Mia.
Well, there's only one way to find out," said Deanna.
The kids got closer to where the growl was, and sure enough, they saw a guy dressed as a Frankenstein-like monster. He started walking toward the kids, and they all screamed together while running for their lives away from the 'monster'.
"That was close," said Emma, who was shaking vigorously.
"Well, now that we know that was the crook, we have to find a way to capture him," said Deanna. "Tomorrow we come back to look for clues."
"No way," Emma replied. "You can count me out."
"Oh we need you too, Emma," Deanna answered back. "You and Norville, Jr. are very much a part of this team. We're counting on you to help us any way you can."
"Fine," Emma growled quietly, not thrilled about wanting to see the monster again."
Later, when the kids returned to their respective homes, Deanna and Mia tried to do a sketch of the monster they had encountered earlier. Deanna was describing him, while Mia was doing the drawing.
Once complete, Mia called her sister over to see how close they came to matching the 'real' monster. Both girls fainted upon seeing the drawing.
"It's not the best drawing of him," Deanna said after the girls emerged. "But it gives us an idea of what the monster we're after looks like."
"He's as ugly of monster as I've ever seen," Mia replied.
"Yes, but it's up to us to capture him and turn him in to the cops," said Deanna.
"Well, I'm done with looking at monsters altogether, real or fake!", Mia said quietly, but just enough that Deanna could hear her.
"Oh, you're definitely helping us catch him!" Mia said in annoyance.
Meanwhile, at the Rogers' household, Norville, Jr. and Emma were also in opposite directions over their mystery.
"There's no way I'm going back with you guys to catch that monster," said Emma.
"But you already agreed to help us out, no matter how scared you were!," Norville, Jr. replied.
"But, Norv, you know it could be dangerous. The monster could come out and grab us at any time."
"No excuses, Emma! You're a part of our team, you're coming with us, and that's final!"
"Fine!", Emma replied angrily.
Just then, a text from Deanna popped up on Norville, Jr.'s phone. "Meet Mia and me after school tomorrow," the text read.
"Okay," Norville, Jr. said. "Deanna just said to meet her after school tomorrow to discuss our plan to capture the monster."
The following day, after school let out, the quintet met not far from the school to talk about their plan to find 'Frankenstein' and capture him.
"Well, gang, we need to go back to where we first saw him," said Deanna. "Once we get there, I'll tell you what to do next." The other three agreed with her.
After leaving the school grounds, the gang soon reached the neighborhood where they first saw the monster.
"Okay, gang," Deanna said. "Let's split up and look for clues!"
That's the end of chapter 6.
