A/N: I think that every time I upload, the chapters just keep getting longer. Now I don't mind them and I hope you enjoy them too. So there is going to be some drama here, and a couple of swearing words but I tried to keep it to a minimum. It has been some time since I uploaded so if you want not to stay behind you can Follow the story.
As always I do not own the Noblesse, only this story and my OCs.
Chapter 7: From afar, up close
...Lukedonia...in an endless library...
The library, even though he hated admitting it, was useless this time. All those books and no information regarding the succession of the Lord apart from things they already knew. Gejuntel had a feeling that his alternatives were thinning considerably. He had also put the best scholars from the Landegre clan to search in the library of the clan and make contact with other clans in order for the research to be expanded. So far though, nothing. So many days gone without a clue.
Then a thought crossed his mind and it was the fact that he kept doing things in way that indicated that he had accepted the probability of their Lord being actually gone. He then raised his head to the sky but all he saw was grey clouds; it was like the sky was yearning the return of the Lord. He then dug his head down, ashamed of himself losing hope even if it was unconsciously.
Maybe it was time for a different tactic but first of all, he had to make a call, a call to a land very far from where he resided. It was time for him to visit the communications room. The men of the Order would be pleased to have a visitor.
...South Korea...
The most surprising thing for M-21 was the fact that that particular day, after the night he kind of escorted Sara to one of the 24/7 convenient stores, he didn't see her at all. After that night she fell asleep and got up at 6:30 in the afternoon of the day after. She herself claimed that she had one of her best naps in a long time. When the guys confronted her about already spending three months sleeping, she answered "That was different; it was like someone had put you into a black pit of nothingness that you couldn't escape from. This time I actually dreamed!" Truth be told, she looked excited. And then the inevitable happened; she couldn't sleep until after midnight. She had a feeling though that it might have been because of M-21's spicy food.
That night M-21 was in charge of being the one to oversee her. He felt that it was getting a bit out of hand with the body-guarding and all but he had done his mistakes in the past and they nearly cost the life of his comrades – or better said his family. So better to be sure. He felt though that it wasn't the right moment to test the waters as he had told Takeo the night before.
And the next three days were almost like that one. She wasn't getting out a lot. She was out only to eat. They wouldn't talk much and were always careful not to let any kind of important info slip. Tao though, not having found anything new in the diary pages, was getting frustrated and wanted to further the research as he was itching for a small questionnaire. Takeo wasn't agreeing and M-21 didn't really mind either way; he knew that Frankenstein would take care of it in a few days anyway.
"Oh, come on guys! It's not like I'm going to question her!" Tao was sounding more and more like a child that would promise to be careful if their parents allowed it to play football inside the house.
"No Tao! We better wait for Boss to return" And Takeo was behaving like an older brother, because the role of the mother would be way too absurd for him; besides wasn't that role occupied by someone else?
Tao smirked "Oh now you are feeling pity for her…"
"Isn't it enough that she doesn't cause any trouble? Do we really have to go with the interogation?"
"I won't interogate her, I will just ask a few questions and if she doesn't want to answer then I'm okay with it, what do you say M?"
M-21 gave a slight nod to his right, exactly behind Tao and Takeo "Why don't you ask her?" Apparently she was standing right there and while her presence was very weak for them to notice at once, she was tempted to listen. She came in front of them.
"He is right, why don't you ask me?" she said with amusement in her voice and interest in her eyes. Tao couldn't hold himself any longer and jumped right into the opportunity "So you wouldn't mind if I asked you a couple of questions? I'm not going to put pressure on you…"
She smiled and went to sit on the couch "Don't worry Tao, if I feel I'm being pressured I will let you know" her tone indicated that she knew what it was about "Quite honestly I think you all are entitled to some information, Frankenstein didn't find much huh?"
At this time all of them were taking place on the opposite couch – Tao and M-21 were sitting on it and Takeo was standing right behind it. They were all very interested in how this situation was going to be. For one, Takeo never actually thought that she would be willing to answer their questions given the last time they spoke together, and maybe she was more intended to fish info out of them than giving them answers. If nothing else, Tao sure looked excited.
"So…Sara…We actually found something about the place where you were found"
She looked interested and couldn't resist "Really? I never thought that there was actually anything left! Frankenstein didn't find anything in the computers or the office while I was there"
"He did find it somewhere else but that is not the point" continued Tao with so much enthusiasm. From behind Takeo was trying to keep himself from rolling his eyes as he was anxious that Tao's excitement might make him slip something he shouldn't. But he needed to have faith in his comrade.
"I want to ask you, that energy of yours… do you use it…for example, right now?" continued Tao.
"I am not" she answered straight away "If I was actually using it you would have seen it, you can't miss it"
"What do you mean?" asked Takeo.
"When I actually use the energy, whether that is to connect with another person through it or to defend myself, you can see streams of light; I know it sounds a little bit weird but…"
"No, don't worry we have seen weirder stuff the last couple of years" said Takeo with a smirk on his face "Yes" continued M-21 "Yes, you should have seen the energy Frankenstein emanated when he is fighting…well maybe it is better that you haven't" he finished with a fake smile. If M-21 had to imagine,he was betting the said energy might have been something similar to Frankenstein's...Oh, Heavens! He hoped not...
She, on the other hand moved her head "If what I felt the first time I met him is any indication of what actually hides inside him…then maybe it was for the best". She had a feeling that it would come to that though; and very soon at that.
"So when you are not using this power how are you able to sense someone else's presence?"
She sighed "It feels different. It's like your hearing; it's there all the time and if you focus you can hear the most" and then she didn't elaborate more than that. Tao didn't pressure her any further about the matter.
"And you cannot read minds?" At that Takeo felt it was weird that Tao sounded so excited about that possibility.
"No, Tao I cannot read minds!"
"Can you use weapons?"
She sighed "Not as far as I know"
"Alright…I really wanted to ask you, are there other people like you?" he asked without missing a bit. Takeo thought that his friend was getting way too excited for something like this.
She looked a little bit suspicious "What do you mean like me?"
"You know…people who have the same abilities as you do"
She looked thoughtful "No, there isn't anyone else with abilities like mine I assure you"
At that Takeo thought that it would be better to stop. Even though Tao promised not to make it sound like an interrogation he was getting way more excited than he should. He looked at M-21 for help but the man didn't seem concerned. Great, so he was alone in this. "Tao how about we stop it here with the questions and say something else huh?"
"Like what?"
"I don't know, like something that has to do with the weather?" Takeo said half-joking half-serious because he had an idea that she didn't like it very much that Tao was that excited to know about her abilities. He was trying to give his friend a hint although he didn't know if Tao took it, in that state of his. He was too clever but sometimes he got carried away. A puzzle was too much fun for him not to solve.
As Tao sighed in surrender he changed the theme of the questions. Kind of.
"So, err…I understand that you are a little upset right now…"
"Really? You figured that out?" she commented with sarcasm.
"Yeah…Truth is that I don't know what will happen if I…Okay you know what? Right now I don't really know what to ask you apart from the questions regarding your abilities! I'm sorry but in all our years we never encountered someone like you! You can feel, receive information of our energies and we don't really know what happens when you actually connect" Tao said in almost one go as he stopped to catch his breath.
Sara could understand that his intentions were not depraved but the poor man had chosen such a wrong time to be excited about her abilities and question her about them. She wasn't in the best emotional state too. After everything that happened and the things she couldn't believe that was happening… She realized that she shouldn't have been there. She was wrong to accept answering the questions. Why she felt excited to begin with, she didn't know. It was getting too dangerous… for all of them.
"So you understand Sara that I need to kno…."
She felt frustrated "You know I did say that I would tell you when I would feel pressured…This is not what I had in mind when I sat down here…I didn't even know what I was thinking... It feels like you are just evaluating the situation here so I better go" she said with frustration and raised herself to leave.
"Sara, you are someone who we don't really know and you have an ability that we also don't know many things about, is it really so unreasonable that we want to learn more about it?" Takeo tried to reason with her.
M-21 could see that Sara was getting agitated and her body language was saying that she was ready to leave.
"Alright I admit, it's reasonable but I don't want to answer any more questions about it" she said in a clipped and almost childish tone and, as M-21 thought, she got up and made her way to her room.
"What are you afraid of?" was his question that came out a little more teasing than he intended but he could play it out. She, on the other hand, stopped what she was doing and slowly turned to him with a surprised face. Tao and Takeo were starting to pay more attention now; Takeo had an idea of what would follow. M-21 continued after he saw that Sara wasn't going to answer straight away "Are you afraid that what you are going to tell us is going to show us just how vulnerable you can actually be?"
'Woah…M is not kidding, he strikes hard and onto the point when he wants to' Takeo thought.
Sara was looking at him and she looked lost. Never had any of them three seen her like that before, as all she managed to say was "What? Is…is that what you think?" her face was focused on him as M-21 was rising from the couch to walk and stand in front of her. She had to raise her head for he was taller than her but she didn't show any intimidation. M-21 was only showing his taunting face and his smugness was showing if only to test her limits. But the scene didn't take long to change from the dangerous stillness to the unexpected emotionally charged atmosphere.
"Are you fucking kidding me?! You are actually asking that?"
M-21 saw the opening and took the opportunity "Oh come now Sara, how do we know that you are not actually trying to fuck us over? We know next to nothing about you, so we want to-"
"You want to know huh?…If you wanted to know more about me then why not ask about me? You are asking about my abilities not about me you idiot! Did you people think that I'm just an experiment with no brain or feelings?!"
That, they didn't take into consideration. The possibility of threat clouded their mind too much to see that she was in the verge of tears and she was getting dangerously close to M-21. The emotional rant didn't take long to come "For days now you are avoiding talking to me and... even look at me any more than 5 seconds and now that I thought you wanted to start talking…"
"I was the first one to acknowledge the fact that you were confused after leaving the Union Sara but look where we are right now. We don't know you. Are you really saying that you thought we were just going to have a social chat? And here I thought you were smarter than that" M-21 pushed, watching her losing her cool little by little; the perfect way to bring someone to a point of carelessness where they will spill information by accident.
"But I have been good all this time. I never did anything bad!"
Tao stood up "Whoa, whoa guys time out! Let's relax a little bit. Sara look I'm sorry, I didn't know you were feeling like that. It's about safety though, you know?"
But she was still looking at M-21 as if she didn't hear Tao at all "I thought that you of all people would understand what it is to be used as an experiment where you are nothing but a pawn to them, a way of getting somewhere! To them you are not a person, not a human being JUST SOMEONE WITH STRANGE ABILITIES!" her voice risen in unsusceptible time and her breathing was erratic as she was looking at all three of them. She was struggling to calm down, and she knew it would not help her now.
Takeo was the one to answer with a serious but also warm and steady voice "We know Sara, and we would never see you just like a strange phenomenon through a glass, it's true you were nothing but well-behaved and we do appreciate it. Try to understand us, so many things have happened recently; fights, betrayal, death. We have come through a war and our wounds are still fresh. On top of that we want to find some people that are missing and as the time passes the hope is thinning. Our nerves and our patience are not in the best condition either" his eyes were only on hers and his posture indicated power but also understanding. She didn't need any taunting right now; she needed reassurances that they would not treat her like a faceless atomic bomb. Takeo would give her the benefit of the doubt.
Suddenly the air wasn't that electrified. Honestly no one understood how it escalated there and how it started but they knew that Takeo ended it. Throughout Takeo's speech and Tao's trying to calm everyone down, M-21 was just standing there taking in the scene. Sure he was poking her a little bit but he didn't think he hit that hard that soon…did he? Maybe showing their awareness around her that much was really starting to get on her nerves…
Sara was looking much calmer now, taking deep breaths "You are right" she said with her head down "you are right, many things have happened recently to you…I feel now that I might have reacted in a very wrong way. I misunderstood your intentions and didn't handle it very well" she raised her face and looked at them; she looked calmer but also really tired.
"It's okay Sara, we get it you are not in the best psychological state right now…" said Tao.
"Yes, I guess so…I'm sorry guys, I think the next questions will have to wait for another time"
"The next time we will talk Sara, rest assured that it will not be a questioning" Tao smiled to her. 'I learned my lesson'
With that Sara felt like she had to leave the scene. But alas, M-21 had apparently other plans. Just then, when he himself thought that it was over, something came to his mind, in such a rush that he was unable to stop himself from what he was going to say next.
"Sara, does the name Conrad say something to you?" It was just a simple question; one that he honestly didn't know why he did. He remembered the name from the diary Frankenstein had found. For days now he wanted to see how well he could actually find a way to see if her emotional steadiness was able to get cracked. He wanted to know something…that he wasn't quite sure what it actually was. Even though they already had her in nearly that state and someone would have said that it was enough for the day…The name and the question just floated on his mind and for some reason he couldn't not ask this particular question…As soon as he said it he knew it was a mistake as he burned a potential good card of theirs, but a few seconds later he would have another reason – more important – to regret his decision.
…through the digital call…
"So it's settled. I believe this is one of the very few times that a conversation with you has been pleasant in a way" the old figure said through the monitor.
"Heh" a small smirk was trailed on a face that hadn't smirked in good manner for some time now "I assure you I'm just as surprised…but please…let's not jinx it now shall we? I expect news from you soon, when they are ready, you make sure you inform me a day before"
The older man showed no indication that he was offended by the tone of the other man but spoke with authority "I will do so, only to make things move faster. But be careful Frankenstein…You do not know what you are dealing with".
"For once, dear Gejuntel, I cannot agree more with you" and he proceeded to close the connection "Don't forget what I told you".
"You too" was the last thing said before the call ended. Frankenstein sighed. He seemed to do this a lot lately. Sometimes he wished that the reasons of that action would still be the crumbles of breadsticks and potato chips Shin-Woo would leave on his couch or the noise the kids would make when his Master lost at a board game… 'Yes' he thought 'those were good reasons'. But he had to come back to reality and face it, no matter how much he didn't like it right now; at least he had his boys. Speaking of them...
"Haji" the ex-Union Elder turned to him immediately at the sharply tone that mentioned his name "Contact Tao, we need to tell him the next move"
"So it's settled?"
"Yes, tell them to be ready. As soon as Gejuntel calls, it's going to be set in motion"
The call took a little longer to be answered than usual. This was starting to concern Frankenstein and just about when his instinct was going to get the best of him the screen changed and the image of Tao was in front of him. He would be calm…for now.
"Hey Boss" Tao's voice was heard tired and somewhat stressed. Maybe he wouldn't be calm for a long time after all, figured Frankenstein.
"Tao I have some things I want to discuss with you all…"
At that Tao couldn't resist "When you say all, you mean Sara too?"
"Tsk, of course not Tao. I mean the three of you! And now that you mentioned her let me ask you how are things there?"
"Well they're fine…" That statement though didn't convince Frankenstein in the slightest.
"Would you care to elaborate on that Tao?" Tao knew that tone; it was the polite-psychopath tone. He wondered what Frankenstein would say if he learned that he made a whole list with names for every tone Frankenstein used when talking. Probably he would receive the end of the Dark Spear.
"Well, all is good in school, no staying behind in bureaucracy, the kids are safe, no suspicious movements…"
"Tao! Do I look like a fool to you? Answer me! What happened with her? Are the other ones safe? Tell me damn it!"
"Okay! Okay!" said Tao with his hands in a defensive stance "Don't yell at me! Everyone is safe, including Sara. It's just I wanted to know more about her and ask her to answer a few questions and…well it didn't go as planned" as he was talking he had his sight away from his boss for he knew that he should have spoken with him before he did anything.
"Continue" was the only response Tao had.
"Well, it turns out she is still really unstable emotionally, and even though I had no intention of striking any sensitive chord, looks like I did, but Takeo reasoned with her and it was almost over…until…" at that Tao raised his head to see what Frankenstein was looking like….he was unsure of how to proceed telling him.
"Until what, Tao?"
"Well, M mentioned one of the names we got from the diary"
Frankenstein closed his eyes. Of course M-21 would do that. He had a feeling that he would continue provoking her in order to fish some reaction and in addition some information out of her; he just wished that he himself was there to control the situation. But Tao said they were alright.
"What happened?"
…a few minutes earlier…Frankenstein's living room…
"How do you know that name?" her eyes were wide and her voice in the verge of whispering. The whispering was almost haunting. Her face turned to him as her body was following with stiff motions that indicated preparing for something that could be anything than good.
M-21 didn't know what to think of it as the first idea was that he really found a clue this time and didn't want to let go "What does it matter how I know the name? The point is what that name means to you…" he answered with a newfound smugness in his voice. He could see her face starting to shake and he couldn't wait for what was next to come.
"What it means to me? Are you mad? You are asking me what this name means to ME?!" at the last word Takeo, the ever watching sniper, said to Tao through his teeth "Look at her hands" and as Tao saw he immediately understood; on her hands thin lines of light were starting to form. They were oddly familiar, but these were light. As he looked at her face then it was evident that she was getting enraged once again. This time it was personal though. Really didn't M know when to stop? And speaking of him, Tao saw that his claws were starting to form slowly and dangerously; it looked like even though his eyes were on her face, his instincts were reacting to her energy.
"Oho…You are really touchy about it. What happened? Is he your boyfriend or something? Did you happen to fall for someone that left you? Why so-"
Both Tao and Takeo were shook and thunderstruck 'What the fuck?! M…I could just….Do you want to kill us?', 'Really this guy? What is he doing?' they were thinking but they didn't have the time to engage as Sara was quick to answer to M-21 with her hands. Takeo was the first to see and M-21 was the first to sense it but no matter what, they couldn't stop her slapping him; hard.
And everything happened too fast. A scream was heard, the banging of a weapon and M-21 was taking a step back as Sara hit him in the face. It wasn't serious but what surprised him was the fact that he reacted too slow for her to miss. And that shot heard…He turned to Takeo who had his guns in hands. The left gun was aiming at Sara and the right one…at the ceiling, where a hole was formed. M-21 thought it weird because usually the warning shots were made next to the person who was to be warned.
It might have been a warning shot but it looked like that thing only was able to shook her out of the frenzy she was going into. Truly she looked like she was realizing what she did but she didn't look apologetic at all. She looked at all of them and then saw the hands of M-21.
"You are…a wolf?!" she said with disbelief as she was looking at the man before her like she continued "You smell like a wolf….But how…" she then shrugged, trying to clear her head and just turned – with Takeo's gun still pointing at her – and went straight to her room where the sound of the key locking the door was heard.
"And then?" asked Frankenstein as he was listening with great attention to Tao's report about the incident.
"Then, we gave M hell for putting us all in danger" said Tao straightaway. No matter how much he loved his brother, he really enjoyed the slap in the back of his head that he gave him. Of course M-21 was still in shock so he reacted by giving Tao a frightening snarling and Tao instantly removed his hand saying "What? You deserved it! What were you thinking M?"
"I see. Looks like he was getting very reckless back there… And all this to get info? I admit now we do have a clue as to how to move with her but we don't want to make an enemy out of her. Don't forget that I intended to use her to find Master" said Frankenstein.
'Reckless…Reminds me of someone else I know'
Did he just hear that? Or was he going crazy? The voice of his Master would truly be a welcoming change but he couldn't feel the bond…
"Boss, are you alright?"
"Yes"
"So…what did you want to talk to us about?"
"We will contact in one hour. I will let you all calm down first. This is a matter that everyone has to have a clear head to discuss"
Tao raised an eyebrow but didn't question his decision "Okay Boss"
"By the way…Did you say that Takeo shoot the ceiling? Of my house?" said Frankenstein with his face turning dark and enraged.
"Eh? Did I say that? Oh don't worry Boss, we will fix it before you come and there won't be anything there by the time you come hehehe" he laughed nervously.
"Humph, you better do, because it will be much faster when I come back I assure you"
"What?"
Frankenstein dismissively answered "More in one hour Tao" and hastily ended the call.
Tao sighed as he leaned back to his chair "He is in a bad mood. I hope this is not going to be difficult" he was wondering though what was that Frankenstein wanted to talk to them about, his face was very serious and that indicated something of great importance but then again if it was about Raizel he wouldn't wait for one whole hour…What did he have in mind?
…at the same time in the Union storage…
Frankenstein was frantic but at the same time he wanted the things in his duffel bag to be placed neatly. Things had to be in order. The more he was stalling with this the more anxious he was becoming. 'Really, a hole on the ceiling?'
"Everything ready?" he asked as Haji came to enter the open door.
"Yes, everything is going according to the plan" he hesitated for a moment but he decided it was right to ask "but Frankenstein are you sure we shouldn't tell them?"
At that Frankenstein stopped fiddling with his things and turned to Haji "Tell who, what exactly huh?"
"You know…"
"No, I don't know. I don't know when you started thinking that I was asking your opinion about the matter. The fact that you happened to be present during my conversation with Gejuntel does not give you the right to question our plans" Frankenstein was absolute with this. He wanted things to move fast and in the right pace and he didn't have time to change much.
Haji, even though understood him, didn't feel like this was the right way for them to work "You know, I had the feeling that you wanted people to work with you and not for you. I thought that you were different from the Union but here you are acting like you have the absolute authority of everything".
"Really? Is that it or is it the fact that being an Elder of the Union for so long, you have become so accustomed in giving orders more than taking them?"
"I still took orders from the First Elder you know. But he, in contrary with everyone else I'd met, was treating me like a person and not as a tool. I just asked you a question and you behaved like I wanted to stop you from your search" Haji responded with steady voice to Frankenstein's silent challenge as he wanted to reason with the man and not with the beast. Inside of him he thought that Frankenstein's statement might have had a small dose of truth. He wasn't going to admit it to him though.
Frankenstein was continuing looking at the man opposite from him and was thinking of the situation. The call he got from Lukedonia was giving birth to more questions, more speculations and no answers at all. Haji's suggestion wasn't bad. He could talk with the boys about it but…he had to be sure.
"Haji, you know how important this plan is; I wouldn't let anything jeopardize it. Right now, I don't know what Sara might learn and how. I will let them know only when I think it is absolutely safe to do so" he gave him a look to make him understand that he meant no harm. Haji nodded silently and left.
"Haji…" he called as the other man stood in the hallway but didn't turn "My speech may have come off to you as full of authority but you were there when I heard it too and you know why I am like this right now. Try not to question me when you see me like this; it's not wise and I say this with the best of intentions. "
"You are like this most of the times…"
"Exactly"
Haji nodded his head but this time not condescendingly but understandingly. This was not a time for pleasantries; they had to move fast and organized. Besides he knew that Frankenstein was like a caged animal that, without his Master, was not always in best control. That and he understood that what he had just heard was as close to an apology Frankenstein would say to someone that wasn't his family. He shrugged. He would take what he could.
The clock showed that only ten minutes had passed since the call with Tao ended. Frankenstein started to think that giving them one hour was way too much. The waiting was driving him crazy; more crazy than usual.
They sky in Lukedonia was still the same. Outside none was walking, and the most depressing of all was that empty mansion that was standing there tall and haunty. Gejuntel was always sad for the many of empty mansions that were left in Lukedonia after the betrayal of their own kind and of course after the first disappearance of the Noblesse. It was strange how deep inside him he wished those who left would come back. Everyone…And everything would be as it once was. He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. If he was thinking like that then he got really old and his age was finally meddling with his wishes; for they were quite childish and were sinking him into a nostalgia that would prove to be catastrophic if not stopped. Thankfully all those years of experience and self-dicipline were not for naught. He stopped himself from those thoughts and proceeded further into the old mansion.
Many, many centuries ago there used to be people in here, talking and laughing…What a waste.
He finally found the room he was looking for. It was a simple archive room – every mansion had one that mostly contained general documents, personal literature collections and usually clan-related scriptures. The old Noble wasn't sure if his memory was right but he had a thought that what Frankenstein asked him about was here to be found. If that was one of the means to find hope, then so be it. He went over the dusty selves and sighed; research again...
…after two hours…
Gejuntel had all he wanted now and he thought it best to wait for a certain someone to dig a little bit deeper. He put almost all of the dusty leather-bound books back to their place except a very old black book that he was sure was too important to leave it behind for now.
Frankenstein had all three of them in front of his screen looking at him with their eyes downcast; especially M-21. Just like a kid that broke a vase while playing inside the living room…Truly a peculiar sight.
"So what happened to my ceiling?" started Frankenstein.
The chill in their spines was evident and the perceptive scientist knew that in an hour they couldn't have it fixed. Still he liked seeing them sweating on their feet; well, a twisted part of him, which meant a big part of him.
Tao was smiling idiotically "Well, Boss we are going to fix it as soon as this call ends"
"Really? And how can I be so sure that you are not going to pick a fight with her, especially inside the living room?" he was really enjoying it now. A little pushing wouldn't be too bad on them; it would make their skin thicker "M-21? Why do I think that you have something to say to the rest of the class?"
"I'm sorry for what happened. I won't do anything like it again" said M-21 sincerely as he still had his eyes down.
"Well, I do not doubt you are sorry, as Takeo is for shooting the ceiling and Tao for starting to question her in an annoying manner"
Tao looked a little offended "Hey I didn't say I did it like that!"
"No, but isn't it obvious?" Frankenstein gave him a knowing look and a side smile.
And that made him stop complaining.
"M-21" the man mentioned raised his head at the commanding voice of his…benefactor? M-21 didn't really know what their relationship was "Next time, try to hold yourself or at least take her down the training room" the young man nodded "And now that this is out of the way, tell me; what did you learn?"
M-21's head jerked to the man on the other side of the screen to look at his eyes "What?"
"You actually had another emotional encounter with her and your method, even though dangerous and reckless, is effective. Now tell me what we learned"
"The name Conrad riled her up in a second. At first she asked how I knew of the name, in a state of shock and then…"
"I can guess what happened I want you to tell me what you got from it"
"This Conrad had to be someone she trusted and he probably betrayed her, she was enraged when I assumed he was her boyfriend or something like that"
"Do you think that it was so?"
"I don't really know, but it could also be someone important to her that…is no longer in life" he explained hesitatingly "If only from the range of her emotional response" he finished.
"Humph! I don't know about that. It seems like she is really in touch with her emotions nonetheless" continued Frankenstein.
"But the most peculiar thing was the fact that after she saw my transformed hands she looked like she didn't believe that I had that form. And then she called me a wolf" continued M-21.
At that Frankenstein raised an eyebrow "A wolf? Are you sure she didn't just cut the usually mentioned word?"
"No Boss, he is right" interjected Tao "she did call him a wolf, but it looked like she meant a werewolf, still the name is another clue, right?"
"Plus, she looked not only shocked but also kind of sad and disappointed when she saw his transformed hands" that was the first time Takeo spoke since they came down there to talk to their Boss.
Frankenstein sighed "Look these are all clues but it looks like they are only small pieces of a big puzzle that is way bigger than I thought at first, and that is the reason I wanted to talk to you about" he was looking skeptical and was thinking of how much and in what way he was going to say to them "I need to be sure of those abilities and what we can expect of her before I set her forth to search for my Master. We don't want to make the same mistakes of the past".
At that Tao and Takeo nodded as M-21 stayed still trying not to show any emotion. It was clear that he was referring to the Mark-incident and even though he was told a hundred times and more….
"So, I will leave to visit a place that may contain some records that may or may not be useful not only to tracking those abilities but also to my Master's research"
"Are you going by any chance to also pass by Lukedonia? Could you meet up with Regis, Seira and Rael and sir Karias? I mean if you have time?" spoke Tao in an excited manner.
Frankenstein smiled at that and also at the hopeful faces the other two showed him "I don't know, I'm not going out for vacation trip but for a certain purpose" the smiles faltered and he quickly added "but if I have the time, I guess I could drop by and say hi" he was amused how the others were looking satisfied.
"When are you leaving? When will you come here?"
"Just as I finish this call, Takeo, I'm leaving as soon as I can since time is of essence and I would plead you not to tell her anything about me leaving and when I'm coming back; which is in four days"
Takeo raised his eyebrows "A little bit sooner than planned huh?"
"Yes Takeo, what is it? Are you worried that you won't have enough time to fix the ceiling?" asked Frankenstein in a playful manner.
"Frankenstein" interrupted M-21 "what is it that you are going to find in that place? Where will you go?"
"Huh…I only have the slightest idea. I had a conversation with someone the other day and something came to the surface through it. I don't have anything concrete boys so maybe don't bother yourselves with the details"
Tao was skeptical. Frankenstein was never that vague about anything that had to do with sir Raizel or the means to find him. And really was a general clue that important that he would stop the research and leave the Third Elder all alone to the base? Speaking of which…
"Is Third coming with you too?" asked Tao.
"No, he is not. He will stay here for safety and to monitor any possible move that is suspicious. I will have a communication device with me so if you need me you know where to find me"
"Uh huh" was the only answer Tao offered. Frankenstein saw the weird response but decided it was not to be addressed at that particular time.
"I will see you in four days then. Take care"
"You too" was simultaneously their response.
The screen got black and the three of them looked at each other. A question was evident in their eyes. It was now an important matter they had to attend to.
"So, do you think three days are enough…to fix that hole, Takeo?" asked Tao teasingly.
"Hey, why are you addressing this question only to me?" Takeo asked in a lightly manner.
"Because you did it?"
"And what about him?" he pointed to M-21 "He was the one who took it too far!"
"Don't point at me! How did it occur to you to shoot at the ceiling? Don't warning shots get shot near the one you want to warn?"
"And where would that be? The wall or the tiles of the floor? Could you imagine if we had to change the tile of the floor? How long would that take?! The ceiling was the best option" he answered defending himself and proud that it actually worked.
M-21 sighed as they were getting up "Well in any case we should be careful next time"
"You say that? You are the one-"
"Yes, I know…the one who took it too far" M-21 knew what Takeo meant. He couldn't help but think that he was making the one mistake after the other. Only the facts that she hadn't come out of her room and that, for the first time since she came in the house, she actually locked the door, were enough to prove that maybe – just maybe – he had indeed taken it too far. He knew that they had to make her trust them and…getting out of the Union was going to leave you with some serious issues. He should have known better; he had a lot of these issues himself.
…at the same time….
Frankenstein was standing in front of the screen of the computer. It no longer showed him his boys that he came to care so much about. With a sigh he got up and headed towards the exit. It was time to pay Gejuntel a visit. Who knew that things would get much more complicated than he originally thought? But he couldn't leave things to luck. His Master would understand; it was for the safety of their family.
It was time to go to Lukedonia and learn a couple of things about the new development in their life.
To be continued...
A/N: In this I wanted to show how someone would be a little bit oversensitive, being experimented upon for so long. Sara here is showing some weird emotional responses huh? What do you think? Well nobody is perfect. Some answers will be givenon the matter in the next chapter and some characters will return!
So you must have noticed it by now...This story is developing in it's own time. I like developing the characters and their storylines and you KNOW how many characters there are in Noblesse. Now I focus mainly in the three bros, but others will come in too...in time. So heads up, it looks like it's going to be interesting. We see from time to time that Frankenstein hears a voice or does he? ;)
