Authors Notes: I know I may have updated this story earlier than usual and apologies to those who follow Ben 10 & She-Ra Heroes of Power for the long wait but you can't rush creativity. Anyway I felt really in the zone writing the next chapter that I couldn't wait to write the next one took time effort and a lot of coffee but it was worth it. Now the rescue mission begins.

Chapter 15:
Liberation:
The castle of Lions was on course for Zarkon's command system and inside the bridge everyone was assembled, around a holo display of the Galra central command ship.
"Okay guys eyes front." Shiro announced "We have a plan to get Elsa, we'll jump to the heart of the Galra command system but keep at a one of the gas planets unseen and undetected."
"I thought you tried that last time and you nearly got killed?" Kristof asked.
"Last time the Paladins tried entering with force, however unlike before we have one strategic advantage." Kolivan began. "As you've probably been told we have many operatives planted in Zarkon's ranks feeding us intel."
"Isn't that risky won't they get caught?" Anna worried.
"They know the risk, but know how to cover their tracks." Antok answered. Shiro brings up a holo console and shows the team a layout of Zarkon's base as he explained the plan.
"The plan will be to enter the base by stealth, so we don't get detected." He said.
"But if Zarkons link to the Black lion isn't completely gone won't he see you coming?" Kristof questioned.
"Right, which is why we'll be using these." Allura said bringing up a holo display of an Altean explorer pod.
"Altean exploration pods," Coran explained "They're primarily used for planetary explorations that regular ships can't enter and their small enough to avoid detection."
"Plus I applied a cloaking field to it with the same tech I utilised on the Green Lion, along with a turbo boost." Pidge added.
"To aid in that stealth approach one of our operatives Thace will activate a wavelength disruption device to disrupt the sensors on the Galra ship, they'll believe it's radiation from nearby gas clouds." Kolivan added "However the device will only be operable for thirteen of your earth minutes."
"Still even if we do get in and get Elsa out theres a chance the Galra will've logged what they found." Keith pointed out.
"Precisely the data they found will be store in the main computer core." Antok added. "Then we'll need to wipe the computers of the data they found so they can't use it." Hunk said.
"Alright then heres the plan," Shiro began "While Thace disrupts the Galra systems, a team consistent of myself, Keith, Lance, Hunk and Pidge will fly over and break into the command ship." Shiro then brings up on the holo monitor a section of the base leaving Olaf and Sven looking in awe. "From here we split up, one team to wipe the data from the Galra computers, the other to grab Elsa, she'll likely be held in the cells where they keep prisoners. If all goes as planned we'll have Elsa and be on our way." He then finished.
Everyone nodded understanding the plan. "What can I do to help?" Anna asked.
"No Anna it's too dangerous, your staying here with Allura and the others." Shiro stated simply.
"What! But I want to help!" Anna insisted.
"Look," Keith started. "Climbing a mountain to help your sister is one thing but infiltrating a fortress is a whole different ball game." He said dead serious. "if we do this theres a chance we confront Zarkon, we may not even make it out alive, is that what Elsa would want!"
"But.." "Anna your staying here, I know you want to help but let us handle this." Pidge said.
Anna was a little down hearted by this decision, the Paladins then went to prepare themselves for their mission, Kristof wanted to comfort Anna but she left soon after the Paladins did, Kristof was concerned he knew somewhere deep down she'd attempt something crazy.
The young princess found herself walking down the halls of the castle. She leant on the wall with a saddened face, she'd been through tough situations before and knew the risk but it seems her new friends didn't see it that way even one she called sister. Suddenly the wall slid but it was actually a door, she stumbled in and saw standing in front of her blue tubes that contained spare Paladin suits.
She looked around the room and at each of the suits, when she reached the Green Paladin suit the one she wore after visiting the Blades base. She could see her reflection in the helmet.
"Even when your family pushes you away you never give up on them." She heard Pidges words echo in her mind. She then grew a determined look on her face she knew what it was she had to do.
A wormhole then opens a distance away from Zarkon's command system, hidden in the cover of a gas moon. Allura, Coran, Kolivan, Antok and two other Blade members stood at the bridge while Olaf sat quietly with Sven who looked a little scared as standing before them was Zarkon's command ship.
"Whoa that thing is huge." Kristof breathed in amazement.
"Yeah massive, and creepy!" Sven said (Kristof intimidating him)
"Yes tyrants tend to go for huge fortresses." Coran observed.
Outside the Castle of Lions a small Altean pod flew out of the hanger bay inside were the five Paladins, Shiro and Pidge manning the cockpit while Keith, Lance and Hunk rode in the back.
"Initiating cloak." Pidge said activating the pods cloaking device as it slowly proceeded. Allura watched them from her post in the castle.
"They're in position." Allura said to the Blade leader.
"Signal Thace to begin." Antok nodded to Kolivan and pressed a small button on his armour gauntlet sending a signal.
Inside the command ship the Galra commander Thace just entered the surveillance room in the ship, he wears dark purple armour with glowing symbol and has purple hair with white streaks in it. He saw a lieutenant was on duty, he quietly approached the opposite console and typed in some codes. He secretly pulls out from his armour a small device with purple glowing lines he places it on the bottom of the console and activates it. Several seconds later the screens of the base begin to give off some static.
"Oh boy looks like radiation interference again." Said the Galra luitenent as he tried to clear it up. Thace discreetly pressed a button on his gauntlet sending a signal to his allies on the outside.
Inside the Pod the Paladins waited until they received a communication from the castle. "Paladins, you're clear to proceed." Allura relayed.
Shiro pushed the flight controls forward and the pod moved forward at a quick pace but maintained a speed, so as not to alert nearby warships.
Kristof meanwhile was looking for Anna as he was concerned for her, "Anna" He called, soon he found Olaf waddling out of a room wearing Lances spare Blue Paladin helmet.
"Oh hey Kristof." He said.
"Olaf? why are you wearing Lances Helmet?" Kristof chuckled.
"Oh I found Anna playing dress up so I thought I'd join in." Olaf answered.
Kristof was confused it wasn't like Anna to be playing dress up at a time like this suddenly he realised something, he looked in the room to find the tube holding the spare Green Paladin suit was missing.
"Olaf when was Anna playing dress up?" Kristof asked in a serious tone.
"Just before the Paladins left." He answered, this left Kristof putting all the pieces together Anna was determined to get her sister back despite the Paladins warnings, he then came to a realisation.
"Oh don't tell me she…"
Back with the Paladins pod they had managed to cross through the fleet of ships surrounding the command ship. The pod pulls up just outside one of the lower walls of the ship. From the cockpit and cargo area the Paladins exited the pod, their helmets visors now covered their faces as breathing gear. Using his energised hand Shiro cut a hole into the ship which rocketed away due to the compression in the ship. They entered quietly and deactivated their breathing visors then took cover behind a nearby wall. Shiro opens the door using his Galra hand he peaked out seeing sentries wandering the halls, he tapped the side of the wall with his fingers timing the guard patterns given his time spent in the prisons.
The sentries past and the Paladins quickly made their way through the halls of the warship. Lance and Keith kept their eyes open for any incoming threats with their Bayards at the ready. Using precise timing they avoided the sentries on patrol. They soon came to a fork in the halls.
"Okay we split up here." Shiro whispered. "Lance, Hunk, Pidge head for the computer core, Keith and I will search the cells, remember maintain radio silence unless in an emergency." The Paladins nodded and went their separate ways.
Pidge, Hunk and Lance followed the hall way until they reached a corner, Lance halted the others as he took a look round the corner, he saw there was a sentry on guard outside the room they wanted to go to.
"We've got to get past that guard." Lance whispered to his comrades.
"But if we blast him it'll alert the ship." Hunk realised but Pidge had a grin on her face.
"Leave that to me." She said pulling out a small tube from her suit she opened it to reveal its contents. It was the mice. This made the Paladins look in confusion why did Pidge bring the mice? they were about to find out.
"Okay see that guard." Pidge said to the mice they looked and saw the sentry they then looked back to Pidge. "Do what you do best." this placed a mischievous grin on the mice's faces.
The sentry was monitoring his surroundings but failed to notice something crawling up its legs and into its exposed joints. Suddenly the sentry was dancing around and generating sparks from its joints. Inside the sentry the mice were tearing apart all of its circuitry and chewing through the wiring. Eventually the sentry crumbled to the ground and the Paladins came out from their hiding place from the sentry the mice came out from its right arm and stood on it triumphant.
"Good job little guys." Pidge congratulated as they headed back into the tube. Using the sentries hand Hunk got past the palm scanner on the door which opened to reveal a large computer in the centre of the room.
"Theres the computer." Hunk observed.
"Okay you two hack the computer I'll watch the door." Lance instructed as he formed his blaster.
Pidge and Hunk approached the computer console and using the sentries hand they gained access. Pidge used her gauntlet holo keyboard to link to the computer and hack into the main files her small virus avatar popped up bubbling as she had gotten through the access codes.
"Okay we're in." Pidge said.
Elsewhere the Black and Red Paladins had arrived at the cell blocks where the Galra keep prisoners. "Start searching the cells." Shiro instructed.
Keith took the cells on the left side of the hall Shiro took the right. Keith placed his hand on the palm scanner and the door opened given him being part Galra he could also access their technology. The cell was empty so he moved to the next one. Shiro was having the same result every cell appeared empty, this was becoming a concern.
Back at the computer room Lance was still on look out while Pidge accessed the files. "How we doing back there?" Lance asked.
"Well the security seems tight but I should be able to hack it." Pidge said.
"Yeah its almost like they didn't want this turned on again." Hunk observed.
"Wait." Pidge noticed something. "Okay here we go latest log in…" She opened a file and found all that the Galra learned about Elsa and her abilities. "Hmm interesting." She observed looking at some scans.
" Wow, it looks like they were studying her quintessence." Hunk said.
"Wait whats this?" Pidge then noticed a file and opened it revealing plans for some kind of device the Galra were building. It appeared to be in the shape of some kind of pillar.
"What is it?" Hunk asked.
"I'm not sure." Pidge said "but we're gonna find out downloading now." Pidge began downloading the data from the computer to erase soon after.
Back at the cellblocks Shiro and Keith were still searching but couldn't find anything. Shiro had reached what must've been the 16th cell. It was empty just like the rest. Just then Shiro felt a presence from behind him he readied his prosthetic hand and was ready to attack. He swiftly turned and faced his opponent who was someone he didn't expect.
"Whoa easy it's me!" It was Anna dressed in Green Paladin armour with her ponytails coming out of the back of the helmet.
"Anna?!" Shiro breathed in surprise."What are.." "Shiro!" He then turned to see Keith coming to him.
"I checked the rest of the…." Keith then took noticed of a certain princess clad in Paladin armour.
"Anna?!" Keith breathed while she smiled nervously.
"What are you doing here?" Shiro asked.
"I came to help you guys." Anna answered.
"Seriously were we unclear of the concept of NO!?" Keith then argued.
"What do you expect I had to save my sister." Anna argued back
"Did you come in with a plan? did you think to consider the dangers of doing this?!" Keith then argued.
"Yes I know," Anna responded "No you don't! You don't understand the danger we face when we stepped into…"
"KEITH I GET IT!" She then snapped much to Keith and Shiro's surprise.
"Look I know your just trying to protect me, and I appreciate it but I can look after myself I'm not a damsel in distress and yes I don't know Zarkon but thats what makes me more scared for Elsa, she protected me its my turn to help her please let me help you." She looked to Shiro with desperate eyes, he wouldn't admit it but he felt she had a point as did Keith in some way.
"Okay, you can help but stay close okay." Shiro decided to which Anna nodded and smiled. "Keith what were you saying?" He asked.
"I searched every cell but theres no sign of Elsa." Keith reported.
"What but she has to be here where else could she be?" Anna panicked.
"Anna calm down we'll find her." Shiro assured.
"Theres something else." Keith said getting their attention. "Shouldn't there be sentries guarding the cells?" Shiro looked around and saw that Keith was right the whole time they were searching the cells they didn't see any trace of sentry patrols in the area.
"Your right, when I was a prisoner there were sentries constantly patrolling the cells." Shiro said.
"I don't like this somethings not right." Keith said in concern this was beginning to scare Anna as Shiro soon came to a horrifying conclusion.
"Guys come in." Shiro said over the coms. "Somethings wrong abort the mission repeat abort the mission!"
Pidge was still downloading data when Lance got the message. "Whoa hold up Shiro whats up?" He asked.
"They know we're here! Abort the mission now!" Shiro relayed.
"Pidge!" Lance exclaimed.
"I'm almost done!" Pidge said.
"NOW ABORT NOW!" Shiro shouted. The download had just finished and the files were deleted from the Galra system.
"Okay it's wiped and I downloaded everything!" Pidge disconnected from the computer and they made their way out of the room and ran as fast as they could.
"Converge on our location then we'll regroup at the pod!" Shiro relayed as he Anna and Keith ran through the halls until they reached a large hanger room with Galra fighters surrounding the walls. They were startled as the door behind them was sealed shut. Suddenly a voice sounded in the air.
"So the champion returns once again." The three of them turned around to see Haggar standing before them.
"You." Shiro growled in anger as he couldn't forget the one who tortured him and took his arm.
Haggar then stood aside and revealed she had an accomplice. "Elsa?" Anna breathed and was about to approach her until Keith stopped her.
"Wait, somethings wrong." and he was right Elsa looked different she had black hair, and was wearing Galra armour she lifted her head and opened her eyes her eyes were black with a dark purple glow in the pupil.
Anna looked in horror at her sisters new appearance, for once she was scared of her sister. "What have you done to her!" She demanded.
"I've simply allowed her to embrace her true self, unlocking what she feared to." Haggar said simply. "Show them." She ordered and Elsa flung her arms forward blasting ice at them.
"GET BACK!" Shiro shouted as Keith shielded Anna from the blast while Shiro ducked out of the way. Keith and Anna slide across the floor and they got up to see half the hanger was blocked by a wall of ice.
"Shiro!" Keith cried and Anna was all but concerned for his safety too.
On the other side of the wall Shiro got up to face Haggar and possessed Elsa. "Let her go!" He growled.
"To think," Haggar began "You could've been our greatest weapon, but now I've found your successor." She gestured to Elsa. "Now you are no longer needed..."
"Ice queen….. kill him!"
Elsa turned her gaze to Shiro and fired a blast of Ice at him which he was quick to avoid he wanted to fight, but he just couldn't do it he didn't want to hurt her, so he continued to evade her attacks.
"Elsa stop, I know your in there!" Shiro tried "This isn't you!"
"How do you know what I am!" Possesed Elsa exclaimed "Maybe this what I was meant to be, I'm stronger alone!" She fired another blast at Shiro but he quickly avoided.
Meanwhile on the other side of the wall:
"Keith what do we do, whats happened to my sister!" Anna cried.
"She must be under the witches influence making her do what she wants." Keith answered.
"But she'd never, I know she wouldn't.."
"Anna calm down,." Keith held Annas shoulders to calm her down. "We're going to help her but we need to stay focused okay." Anna calmed down knowing that the Red Paladin was right.
"Okay." She said, and Keith nodded. He formed his Bayard sword and tried cutting a way through the ice wall but the more he struck the wall he didn't make any progress.
"Gah its too thick." He growled, suddenly Anna saw something that put a look of horror on her face.
"Uh Keith." She trembled in horror.
"What" he asked he turned to see they were surrounded by a battalion of Galra sentries and among them was Sendak.
"Send word to the Emperor the Paladins are here!" He said as the sentries took aim at their targets, at a time like this there was only one thing Anna could say.
"Oh Quisnak!"
The sentries opened fire on their targets Keith acted quickly and formed his gauntlet shield to protect Anna from the blasts. He then reached for his Bayard forming his sword.
"Stay down I'll handle this!" Keith then charges forwards and slices down any sentries in his path.
"But I want to help!" Anna insisted while she avoided the laser blasts then ran to the ice wall.
"You can't Anna!" Keith said stabbing a sentry in the chest.
"Why not! Is it because I can't fight!" Anna grunted trying to pull a sharp piece of ice from the wall. Keith was trying to hold a sentry back with his sword.
"That and I don't trust your judgement!" He answered.
"Excuse me!" Anna asked.
"Well you did decide to marry a man you just met!"Keith then cracked as he stabbed a sentry straight in the core.
"I Thought it was true love!" She yelled picking up and firing a Galra blaster. Keith quickly ducked to avoid the blast as it destroyed a couple of sentries.
Keith then turned to Anna in anime style anger "ARE YOU NUTS YOU NEARLY SHOT ME!"
"But I didn't!" Anna said. Suddenly Keith was swatted by Sendak's robotic hand and landed across the room.
"Keith!" Anna cried. Sendak's attention then turned to Anna.
He lunged at her and tried to crush her with his fist, Anna was quick to avoid him. Sendak turned to her growling Anna was terrified but tried to stand her ground Sendak tried to grab her by extending his arm towards her but she dodges it and lands near a fighter hanger. She sees Sendak charging towards her she acts quickly and hits a button on the nearby console this opens the door in the wall and the vacuum of space sucks everything out of the room, Anna quickly grabs the console and Sendak is hurtling towards the airlock but grabs the floor with his robotic hand.
He glares at Anna and tries to strike her with a sword, suddenly as if in slow motion Keith launches at Sendak and slices the energy in his hand severing the robotic component which sends him flying through the airlock and into space screaming. Keith jammed his sword into the ground and was close to Anna.
"Keith I'm slipping!" She cried.
"Hang on I'm coming to get you!" Keith yelled as he tried to reach out to Anna and she reached her hand out to him suddenly she lost all strength in her fingers and fell through the air lock!
"ANNA!" Keith yelled.
Anna was flung out of the airlock but luckily the armours breathing gear kicked in as she flew out into space. Anna looked all around her she was floating alone in space she breathed heavily like she was having a panic attack.
Suddenly from out of nowhere the Green Lion came swooping in and grabbed Anna in its mouth and rocketed away from the area. Anna soon found herself at the controls of the lion rather startled.
"You… You saved me." Anna breathed "Good girl."
Back in the command ship, the air lock then closed and Keith was back to ground level and was breathing like crazy he was in shock after what happened.
"Keith!" Called a voice and Keith turned to see Lance, Hunk and Pidge arrive in the hanger.
"You okay!" Lance said.
"What happened? Wheres Shiro?!" Hunk asked.
"He's on the other side of that Ice wall the witch has got Elsa under her control, and Anna…"
"Wait Anna! whats she doing here!" Pidge interrupted Keith.
"She stowed aboard but Sendak ambushed us and she fell out of the airlock." Keith breathed horrifying Pidge, then a communication came in on Keiths gauntlet.
"Uh Keith I'm okay." Said a voice they all looked in relief and amazement.
"Anna your okay!" Lance cried.
"Where are you?" Keith asked.
"I'm in the Green Lion." Anna replied.
"Wait what your in my lion!?" Pidge exclaimed in amazement.
"Yeah," Anna then looked to the cockpit window and saw something disturbing. "and I'm not alone out here!." She said in fear as surrounding her lion was a huge fleet of Galra warships that just detected the lions presence.
In the throne room
A Galra luitenant stood beside Emperor Zarkon on the bridge as he briefed him on the situation. "Sire we've detected the Green Lion in our system, and sentries report that the Paladins are onboard the command ship!"
"They're here." Zarkon hissed "Initiate high alert! If the Paladins are found they are to be marked killed on sight and capture that lion the others are likely nearby!"
"Vrepitsa!" The luitenent bowed as he took his leave. Hans just smirked this was a chance to rid himself of the other Paladins.
"If you would allow it Emperor Zarkon I could assist them." He asked. Zarkon didn't look at Hans.
"Do as you see fit, but remember Victory or death!" Hans then took his leave Zarkon's eyes just glowed as he now had his prey trapped and his power would soon grow, but will the Paladins escape?
Within the command system barriers, The Warships are focusing their fire on one target, The Green Lion who's trying to avoid the blasts but doesn't seem to be firing back. In the cockpit Anna is doing her best to pilot the lion with what she's learned from Pidge.
"Whoa! Come on!" Anna cried then got hit by a laser blast, the lion then recovered and was surrounded by Galra fighters and began to fly away with them in pursuit, Anna had a look of panic.
Back at the castle Allura, Coran, Olaf, Sven Kolivan and the blades could see all that was happening, they had been made aware of the situation regarding Anna.
"Oh Anna what were you thinking!" Kristof exclaimed.
"She needs help!" Olaf cried as Sven looked in horror.
"She's stubborn I'll give her that." Coran then gave a chuckle "Reminds me of Allura at that age." He chuckled to himself.
"She won't last out there much longer, Paladins whats your status?" Allura contacted the Paladins in the command ship.
Back in the command ship Hunk is blasting the ice wall with his Bayard Cannon with continuous fire to melt a way through.
"Zarkons witch has Elsa under her control she's got Shiro we're going to help him but it'll take some time!" Keith relayed.
"Time is a luxury your running out of." Kolivan relayed.
Castle of Lions:
"The Galra know you're there you must get out before the solar barrier is raised!" He said.
Coran then looked around and saw a certain someone wasn't in the room. "Wait, wheres Kristof?"
Kristof was running through the halls of the castle until he arrived in the hanger room, the Yellow Lions hanger he ran to the lion and placed his hand on its right paw.
"Look, I know I'm not Hunk but Annas in trouble I need your help." He looked up to the Yellow Lion but it didn't seem to move he looked with worry.
Galra Command ship:
In the warship Shiro was still avoiding the bombardment of ice spikes that were being thrown at him by Possesed Elsa. She kept throwing her hands forward firing the ice spikes at him. He was able to smash some of them with his prosthetic hand but some of the shattered pieces caught his faces giving him a few cuts. Shiro stumbled to the ground but moved just before a blast of ice could hit him, he faced Elsa.
"Elsa! snap out of it, I made you a promise, I swore I'd never let anything happen to you!" Shiro pleaded.
"But you did." Possessed Elsa yelled "You should've just abandoned me just like my parents, they feared whet I could do I now understand this is who I am!" Shiro looked rather hurt when he heard this but he knew she would never say this.
"I'm not leaving, not without you!" He said.
Possessed Elsa just chuckled."Oh, your not leaving here at all!" Elsa fired a blast of ice, Shiro moved quickly to avoid it.
Meanwhile Annas still trying to master flying the Green lion but isn't making any ground. "Pidge where are you! I need help!" She cried in panic. A Galra fighter fired on the lion but She quickly avoids the blast but receives the shockwave.
"Anna are you there!" Pidge called on the coms channel.
"Pidge! I'm surrounded I.. I can't.."
"Anna calm down!" Pidge said she could tell that Anna was in a state of panic.
Command ship:
"We're going to get you out of this, now listen if your going to survive this you've got to bond with the lion." She instructed over her gauntlet.
"What but, I thought we bonded, if not why did it save me?!" Anna questioned.
"It saw something Anna we're going to help you find it." Keith then added "Now, close your eyes and concentrate." Keith said softly,
In the lion Anna relaxed and closed her eyes and listened to her friends words echo in her mind. "Free your mind, remember what I told you about my experience on Olkarion, you, me the lion we're all made of the same cosmic dust." She heard Pidges voice echo in her mind.
"Feel that energy, connect with what the lion feels, see through its eyes." She then heard Keith. "Remember, patience yields focus."
Anna listened to those words and focused all her energy. She opened her eyes and was now standing in a spectral void standing on a disc of light, then a spectral image of the green lion appeared behind her growling.
Annas eyes shot opened and the Green lions eyes glowed as it let loose and ear splitting roar. The lion turns and fires an energy blast from its mouth destroying the fighters that were pursuing it in one shot. Its attention was then drawn to the fighters approaching it from the starboard side.
"Okay fellas." Anna said with a grin. "COME AND GET IT!" She thrusted the flight sticks forward.
The Green Lion formed its vine cannon on its back and charged forward. The lion encased the fighters in vines and sliced across warships with its jaw blade, it was almost like ballet Anna felt as if she was one with the lion. While she was gaining ground more fighters kept coming.
"Oh boy, I don't think I can take them all by myself!" Anna realised.
"You won't have to!" Called a voice on the coms Annas eyes widened as she recognised the voice.
Out of nowhere the Yellow lion came charging into a long line of Galra fighters that were about to attack Green Lion, Yellow then lets loose a roar, inside the cockpit it wasn't Hunk but Kristof at the controls.
"Kristof!" Anna called on the coms. "You, your in Hunks lion and you blasted through those fighters to save my life!" She finished in amazement.
"Well actually I was trying to push you out the way, but thankfully what this thing lacks in speed makes up in defence Hunk was right it can take a beating!" Kristof answered.
This was all witnessed on the bridge of the Castle of Lions. "Kristof and Anna are flying the lions!" Olaf cheered.
Allura was all but amazed she didn't even think it was possible for someone else to forge a bond with the lions other than the Paladins but it was clear there was more to their new friends than meets the eye.
Kolivan didn't show it but he too was impressed by the humans determination, clearly their courage and strife was to be admired.
"Theres hope for those two yet." Coran said impressed.
Back in the command ship Galra lieutenants and commanders are at their stations manning defences against the lions. "The Yellow and Green lions are in our system." Said a lieutenant to his commander.
"Send in more fighters corner them and get that solar barrier on line!" The commander relayed.
Meanwhile Shiro used his energised hand to slice through a flurry of icicles being flung at him. Suddenly one strikes him in his left shoulder piercing the armour. He cries out in pain as he's flung back into the ice wall by a gust of wind. He looked up to see Possessed Elsa standing above him.
"Finish him!" Haggar commanded.
Elsa raised her left hand and it began swirling with ice magic she was aiming directly for Shiro's heart.
"Elsa, don't please." Shiro grunted "Your stronger than her, don't let the witch take your soul!"
"I have cleansed her soul washed away any weakness or trauma something you were incapable of.I have shown her the truth." Haggar said "Now kill him!" She then ordered and Possessed Elsa was getting ready to strike.
"Listen to me Elsa, don't be what you feared yourself to be," Shiro tried "Your not this monster the witch has made you! Anna didn't give up on you she never did all that time you were apart and I know you didn't give up on wanting to be together powers or not." Elsa was struggling with her next move she was cringing and shaking.
"I, understand you, I wanted to help you because I understood your pain, your loneliness better than anyone could, and I know you saw that in me as well!" Shiro kept trying and it looked like he was getting through to her.
"Kill HIM!" Haggar ordered.
"Your powers don't define who you are, think back to when Annas heart was freezing when Arendelle was freezing, think about what we experienced in the Ice Palace, all your life you kept yourself apart from everyone even your sister just to protect the people you love, that makes you the best person I've ever known !" Shiro then finished.
Possessed Elsa was still trying to attack but something deep inside her was resisting tears were streaming down her face as she was forcing herself away from Shiro. Haggar growled as she saw her new puppet was fighting her control.
Shiro was able to stand up with every ounce of strength he had. Possessed Elsa looked to him with tears streaming and tried to stop her hand from firing an ice blast to his heart.
"Shiro…" She cried "I can't…."
"Yes you can! Do it for the little girl who thought she was to be alone for all her life!" Shiro tried.
"KILL HIM!" Haggar yelled.
Possessed Elsa looked to Shiro her eyes stopped glowing to reveal her blue eyes again then with on yell she fired a powerful ice blast at Haggar which took her by surprise and only just managed to avoid the blast but it got her in the side of her arm as she rolled to the ground. Suddenly Elsa cried out in pain as dark energy blasted out of her from her eyes and simply dissipated like smoke from a chimney. Her hair had returned to her normal platinum blonde colour but not in her normal braid but unraveled to her shoulders.
She soon felt faint and collapsed but Shiro was quick to catch her in his arms, she was unconscious but knew she was safe.
"Your, alive." She breathed silently. She then looked at herself wearing Galran armour she looked in horror as she remembered what she was about to do. She broke down in tears burying her head in Shiro's chest.
"Oh wake me up tell me this is a nightmare!" She sobbed.
"Its alright." Shiro breathed stroking her head. "I'm here now."
Haggar who had just recovered could not believe what she had seen her new puppet had all the power she had cleansed her of weakness and with just a small sentiment her spell had been broken.
"You foolish child, I cleansed you of weakness and this is how you repay me!" Haggar hissed "Now you shall share your fate!" She was about to attack.
When suddenly the centre area of the ice wall had burst open with a blast and from the smoke came a blade swinging towards her it was the Red Bayard she disappeared in black smoke to avoid the blade. Emerging from the steam was the four Paladins.
"Shiro!" Keith cried as they ran to their leader they saw Elsa in his arms but Pidge saw something rather alarming in his shoulder.
"Shiro your hurt!" She exclaimed but all Shiro could do was pull the icicle from his shoulder and grunted in pain as he did his wound bled but it didn't matter.
"I'll live!" He then picked up Elsa bridal style as he looked to his teammates. "Lets get out of here!" He grunted.
The Paladins ran through the ship to find their exit hole suddenly they were greeted by a blockade of sentry robots who were firing on them, they took cover behind the arches in the halls. Keith looked and saw their way was blocked.
"They're blocking our way!" Pidge exclaimed . The sentries kept firing on the Paladins with no remorse.
"Lance, Hunk!" Keith called "Give us some cover fire!" Lance and Hunk nodded as they formed their Bayards.
The two fired upon the sentries Hunk gave rapid fire with his cannon destroying every sentry in their way. Lance fired shots at incoming sentries and slid under ones legs and fired above his head bringing down a support beam crushing them. Obstacle removed the Paladins moved forward, suddenly though they heard the sound of clapping and emerging from the shadows was Hans.
"I must congratulate you on your persistence Paladins, no wonder Zarkon always underestimates you." He said evilly as he looked to the glaring Paladins he took note of one in particular carrying the ice queen. "Well this is unexpected, the Black Paladin back from the dead." Shiro just glared at him.
"Well this time I'll be sure to aim for the head." He said drawing his sword.
Shiro was about to lower Elsa down. "Shiro no." Keith stopped him "Your in no condition to fight, you and the others get Elsa out, I'll deal with him." He said dead serious.
"What?! Keith we're not leaving you…" Shiro then protested.
"Just go! I'll join you when I can!" Keith said simply. The Paladins had no choice so they took their leave but Lance stopped.
"Keith." he called to the Red Paladin who turned to him.
"Kick his ass!" Lance said with a smirk as he left, and Keith bore a determined smile.
"You wish to fight me boy." Hans said "Well I hope you prove more of a challenge than your leader." He pointed his sword at Keith challenging him to a sword fight. Keith responded by forming his Bayard from his armour and formed his sword.
"Let's see." He said as the two charged at each other clashing blades.
Within the command system the Yellow Lion is crashing into multiple Galra fighters smashing them to pieces.
"Oh yeah now I got it!" Kristof exclaimed he was getting the hang of piloting the Yellow Lion. Suddenly he was caught by surprise by a warship targeting him. Before it could fire the warship came under attack from the Castle of Lions which comes soaring in bombarding it with laser fire.
"Need a little help Kristof!" Coran called the Castle continued bombarding the warships and Galra fighters.
"Allura, come in" A voice then sounded on the communication systems Allura instantly recognised it.
"Shiro! Are you all okay!" Allura asked.
"Yes we're fine and we have Elsa." Shiro answered.
"Well get the heck out of there!" Coran said.
However there was a problem. "Well we'd like to." Lance added as the Paladins looked the Altean pod which was destroyed with the fight outside "But our pods kinda trashed."
"Great now what!?" Hunk said but then out of nowhere the team were all surprised to see the Green lion flying in front of their entrance hole. A familiar voice then sounded on the speakers.
"Hey guys need a lift?" It called. Pidge smiled with pride as she knew whose voice it was.
"Thats my girl." She said proudly.
Soon the four Paladins entered the cockpit of the Green lion. Anna looked behind her and saw that they had Elsa but she was unconscious and Shiro's shoulder was bleeding.
"Is Elsa okay?" She asked with concern.
"She's fine let's just get out of here." Shiro said simply while Pidge worked on making sure Shiro's wound didn't continue to bleed out with a cloth and Hunks bandana.
"Okay." Anna said but then realised that Pidge was back. "Sorry Pidge your job." she was standing up.
"No no no Anna stay right where you are you seem to have gotten better at flying the lion." Pidge insisted.
The lion then pulled away from the entrance hole but as they were escaping there was a sudden pull which sent the team forward catching them by surprise.
"What the heck was that!" Lance exclaimed.
"Somethings pulling us back!" Pidge said examining the consoles, and when they zoomed in at the source Shiro could only glare.
"Zarkon!" He hissed.
Zarkon was outside his command ship using his Bayards chain form to hold the Green Lion back by the back leg. He used his incredible strength to hold the Lion back.
"Theres no escape Paladins, not this time!" Zarkon said.
Back in the ship Hans and Keith clash blades and each try to gain ground on the other their blades clashed and they stared each other down. They broke away and slashed at each other as their blades met each other Keith fought with veracity and skill but Hans took advantage of his anger and with one strike of his sword knocked Keiths Bayard out of his hand and onto the ground.
His sword then met the Paladins throat as Keith still stood his ground. "I admire your skills in the sword Paladin." Hans said. " Your style of combat is on pure strength, but tell me, what are you without your sword?"
Hans was about to deal a strike until Keith pulled out from his back and formed his Marmora blade which blocked the sword strike. Keith kicked Hans away and then swings his blade striking Hans in the wrist relieving him of his sword, and then delivers a roundhouse kick to his head knocking him to the ground. Hans tried to get up but was met by Keiths blade.
"A guy who has a spare." Keith then answered.
Hans just glared but looked at the Paladins new found weapon. "Your weapon," He breathed. "it looks Galran theres clearly more to you than meets the eye." He said.
"You don't know the first thing about me." Keith glared. "But I know about you, you want power and don't care who gets hurt, if anything you and Zarkon deserve each other."
"Well, we'll see who has the most power when this is over." Hans said simply.
"Take some advice 'Prince'" Keith said as he retrieved his Bayard. "You make a deal with the Galra or try to over throw Zarkon you will regret it." Hans was getting up as he listened to the Red Paladins plight.
"Your concern is touching but hardly necessary." He smirked. "However, I can handle myself and I shall be the one who will not be passed aside or looked down upon once I control this Empire and have Voltron as my own."
"Don't count on it, no one can betray the Galra mark my words you're going to want to find something to hold onto." Just as Keith said that his helmet visor covered his face forming his air helmet.
Hans then looked in shock as he saw what he was standing in front of. Keith slammed his fist onto the nearby door controls and the doors swung open and the vacuum of space sucked him out of the hall way while Hans was using all his strength to hold onto the hall pillars. Keith flew out into space but all the while had his eyes closed.
Elsewhere the eyes of a certain lion glowed yellow.
The Green Lion was still trying to fly away from Zarkon with all its might but still couldn't get away from its restraint. Inside the cockpit Anna was pushing on the flight sticks with all her might. Zarkon suddenly heard a roar and he looked to see the Red lion form its rail gun and fire an almighty blast at the emperor, Zarkon formed his Bayard shield but the blast blew him all the way across the ship, he would've flown of into space but he used his energy blade to dig into the ship.
"WE'RE FREE!" Lance shouted in the Green Lions cockpit.
"NOW ANNA!" Pidge yelled and Anna thrusted the flight sticks forward and the lion rocketed away from the command ship. Red then flew alongside Green.
"Keith you made it!" Shiro exclaimed from Green.
"Was there ever any doubt." Keith said.
Zarkon saw the lions flying back to the castle "ENGAGE THE SOLAR BARRIER NOW!" He shouted over the com.
However before the sentries could activate the barrier controls they were cut down by Thace who then damaged the barrier controls before the other Gala lieutenants arrived. To cover his tracks he shot his shoulder with a blaster wounding himself. Lieutenants arrived and saw their commander was wounded the controls destroyed and the sentries cut down.
"Commander Thace what happened" Asked a soldier who saw he was wounded.
"The controls were sabotaged by the Paladins the barriers non operational." Thace relayed pretending it was the Paladins who destroyed the controls.
The yellow lion had just destroyed several more fighters with the aid of the Castle. The lion then saw the Green and Red lions approaching. "You guys made it" Kristof exclaimed happily.
"Yep all present and correct!" Anna replied.
"Now let's get out of here!" Keith suggested as the lions made their way to the Castle of Lions. Allura received a communication on the bridge.
"Allura we're on board wormhole us out of here!" Shiro said.
"Yeah to anywhere but here!" Lance added. Allura wasted no time and focussed her energy in front of the Castle a wormhole appeared before them and they were making their escape.
However on the Komar device Haggar was gathering all her energy to blast the worm hole and let loose an almighty blast of energy however before it met its mark the castle entered the wormhole which closed behind it and the energy just hit the rings of the command system. Zarkon could only yell out in anger as his quarry had slipped through his fingers once again.
Authors notes: Whew that was a close one for our heroes, but don't think they're out of the woods just yet. Now in early production of this story I had the idea that Haggar would put Elsa under her influence and use her to attack the Paladins, mainly Shiro. Shiro's speech was inspired by the speech in Batman Bad Blood if anyone has seen that. On a surprising note yes I decided it would be fun to have Anna and Kristof fly one of the lions and I felt that Green and Yellow suited their personalities. For those who are wondering yes Elsa will get a chance in one of the lions later in another story, but I won't say which one. I'll let you guess that.
But now our heroes have escaped for now, but defeat doesn't sit well with tyrants as we all know, so until then..
