Chapter 7
Janja walks nervously into the cave. He didn't want to return to his mother. It will show that he failed. But he also doesn't want anyone else of his clan get hurt and he cannot risk his clan mates life.
Cheezi is badly hurt and they need more people to protect him and gather enough food at the same time.
He had no other choice than to return home. He had already send a vulture ahead.
His mother is munching on a bone when he walks into the cave. Slowly she looks up at him.
''So you have returned at last. Well...what have you learned from your time?''
Janja looks down, his ears flat. His mother raises an eyebrow at hum, urging him to continue.
''I failed leading my clan. We had trouble finding food, defending our territory and now Cheezi got hurt.''
''I told you many times to stop fooling around with those lions. Lions only cause us trouble.'' Something in his mother's eyes flashes. Scar is a name that no one may say in her company. If you do you will regret it.
''It wasn't the lions who hurt Cheezi. It were some other Hyena's from a different clan.''
''You aren't denying it?''
Janja looks down again. His mother sighs.
''A leader of a clan needs to be strong, smart...it is true that you are stronger and smarter than the other boys but...from the stories I have heard of the vultures most of your plans fail. I am not getting any younger and the clan does need a good leader...''
''We cannot seem weak...Which clan hurt your friend?''
''It was Jasiri's clan!''
''Aah her again...interesting.''
Author's note
So in this story Shenzi is his mother and is the leader of the clan. Janja is her only child and so he would be the new leader. But hyenas are led by females (according to the internet I think) so because Shenzi knows her son didn't get all het intelligence she send him and his friends away so that he could experience being a leader and she could see if he is a capable leader.
