Clark's P.O.V.

I admit that the article that I wrote with Starling left me curious as to what reason her Dad was murdered.

The person who's responsible for said murder actually looked vaguely familiar. I really feel like I should have kept an ear and an eye out for him.

Well, to be fair, I did have other things on my mind. Like booking that venue for Starling. I wonder if I'll get to hear one of her own songs.

Actually, even though I don't really know her that well yet, I can't help but get the feeling she doesn't want to upstage any of the members of Just Dank Gray. That must be part of a musician's etiquette her Dad had to have taught her.

She did seem pretty excited to find out the band's all women, likely because she has to got to be more than aware of sexism, especially within the music industry.

I bet that she's taken a lot of flak for being a girl who plays guitar. She probably brushes it off though that, in my opinion is a rough thing to take over and over.

I smile, imagining her playing and singing Joan Jett's Bad Reputation. She seems like the type who would do that as loud as she can, in an in your face kind of way, giving absolutely no crap at all.

Right. The man who murdered her Dad.

It's a good thing that I know a computer expert. Tracking him down might be kind of difficult.

Okay. Calling Babs Grayson*.

I hear her briefly talking to a Fauna shortly after she picks up. I wonder who that could be**. I ask out of curiosity.

"She's my daughter."

I can hear the smile in her voice.

"You have a daughter?"

I feel somewhat surprised, to say the least.

"Yes, she's 10 years old. We adopted our very special girl a month ago. She already calls us her parents."

Adoption. That does make sense. As far as I know, Babs can't carry a baby to term.

My smile widens as I tell her that's great and I'm happy for her.

"Aww. Thanks, Clark. I have to admit, being a Mom does have its perks. Hold on, let me put you on a secure FaceTime connection so I can show you her picture."

It's not too long before said connection is made and I'm seeing what she wants to show me. It's actually a family picture. I can see Bruce, Alfred, Tim, Dick and Babs obviously and...That must be Fauna. She has shoulder length brown hair that looks kind of spiky, bright green eyes and a wide, toothy grin.

"That's Fauna, huh? She's pretty, like her Mom."

Babs's smile widens. "Thanks and yes, that is Fauna Sky Kipling. She'll be 11 in March."

She puts the photo down on the mantlepiece then heads towards her command center. "She actually shares a birthday with Dick. He called her his birthday twin on the day that we first met her. I'm so proud of her and not just because she's so precocious."

She grins and tells me about the project that Fauna started.

"Well, it sounds like your daughter likes animals."

She laughs from inside her command center. "That's my girl. Dick was over the moon that she'd be helping elephants."

I laugh. "Was there ever any doubt? I know where that man you married gets his roots from and how proud he is of them."

She nods. "I know you do. Should I tell him that you called or is this not a social one?"

Bruce's influence.

"You can if you want to but no, this isn't really a social call. I would like to meet Fauna some day though."

She laughs gently. "I can pencil you in."

I know that she must have pulled something up on her computer.

"Is this Friday good for you?"

That would be two days after Starling's concert.

"Friday sounds great. Now, about why I called."

I fill her in.

Her eyes fill with concern. "Poor kid."

She grins. "I like her name though. Blossom's the leader of the Powerpuff Girls and a redhead like me."

I bet Starling gets a kick out of that. She seems very into girl power so I'm sure that she's got to be familiar with the show.

"Okay, here we go. Starling's Dad was murdered by Dabney Donovan. He's a member of Intergang and...Oh my God."

I raise my eyebrows and ask her what she found.

"Clark, he murdered her Mom too."

My eyes widen. "That doesn't make sense. Her Dad was a musician. What connection could he possibly have with Intergang?"

I hear her breathe out slowly. "He was trying to make ends meet and he fell in with the wrong crowd. They had his wife murdered when he threatened to tell. Starling saw it and, judging by the look on her face, well, I don't think that she's forgotten that day. It very well could be the only memory that she has of her mother."

That's an unfortunate one to have. She obviously didn't tell John. Much like Bruce, she seems to like her secrets.

"I guess that she found out that her Dad was working for Intergang."

She sighs. "Yeah, it looks like it. That has to be why they had him murdered. Unknowingly, she must have done the same thing that led to the death of her Mom. That or they found out she knew about them.

I'm thinking it's the latter. They do have members from Gotham and I know a snitch that would fit the profile perfectly. He's almost as good with computers as I am so it wouldn't have been too hard for him."

I breathe out slowly. "Wait a minute. If she knows, why would she have wanted to stay where she was?"

Oh no. I think that I know the reason. Please let me be wrong.

I wrap up and end the call with Babs then rush to Starling's room.

She's locked the door.

I look for the key then, after finding it, I open the door and find that my fear was right. She's not here, she obviously knows the identity of the man who murdered her parents and she's very angry about it.

How did you not see that anger, Clark? You could have at least tried to stop her.

Oh my God. That's why she made me go.

She wanted some alone time so she could think of a plan. Now she's carrying it out.

I change into Superman then, soon, head out, praying that I'll be able to talk Starling down from dealing out her vengeance.

*Yes, Babs is obviously married to Dick in this story too.
** See They Named Me Fauna to find out. I suggest that you read that story before continuing otherwise you'll be confused.
***She's referring to Noah Kuttler, also known as Calculator.
