This took longer to get ready than I had hoped. Sorry about that. I'll try to avoid writer's block in the future. (No promises.)

I do not own Generator Rex or My Hero Academia. They belong to their respective owners.

Enjoy!

Introductions and Examinations

Akira smiles as he looks at himself in the mirror. He is wearing his new uniform. The gray U.A. uniform. He actually gets to wear this.

Still a little hard to believe. He had spent years being the quirkless kid nobody would have given a second thought to. Now he was about to go to class in the best hero school in the country. The place reserved for the best of the best.

He slides on the gray jacket and fixed up the red tie. He was ready.

He walks downstairs and is surprised to see his dad at the doorway.

"Dad? Why are you still here?"

"I told them I'd be coming in late. I wanted to see you off" he tells me. "It's not every day your son gets to go U.A."

"Yeah. Still processing that myself."

"Hey. Just do your best. Be yourself. And maybe tell Alpha not to kill anyone."

"That will depend entirely upon their attitude," Alpha states plainly.

"I'll keep that in mind," Akira says with a smile. His father returns the smile

"I'll see you after dad."

"Bye son. And don't forget," Akio says, leaning closer to his son. "Show them what you can do."

Smiling, Akira nods at his father. He then walks away, ready to see what U.A. has in store for him.

"Note to self. The doors at U.A. are built for people with height quirks. "

Akira makes this and severe other observations while he walks through the halls of the school. The thought keeps my mind occupied until I reach my destination.

Class-1A.

The class he was assigned to. The class was filled with other people hoping to become heroes. People with looks, personalities, and actual quirks that he would learn over the course of a year. Some of them, Akira is probably going to have to tolerate.

Some of them are probably going to have to tolerate him, now that he thinks about it.

Deciding to get it over with, he walks up the door and starts to open it.

"Wonder if the green boy and gravity girl made it in. Just hope Robotboy isn't..."

"Why are your feet on the desk?!"

Upon opening the door, Akira sees Robotboy arguing with some blonde kid over whether putting feet on a desk is appropriate. They are so busy arguing, they don't see him come in.

Good. Akira didn't feel like talking to them anyway. So he instead looks inside the class, searching for Sero. Once he sees his friend, he takes the seat next to him.

"Any idea what they're arguing about?" Akira asks, looking over at the angry blonde and bulky nerd.

"Blondie put his feet on the desk, that's all I know. Actually, I think they're still on that."

"How long do you think it'll last?"

"We might be graduating by the time they finish," Sero chuckled. "You have any trouble on the way here? The map was a little hard to read for me."

"Not really. I just needed some..."

"Oh, you're that curly-haired boy!"

Both Sero and Akira look to the door to see a girl waving happily at a green-haired boy. Akira recognized him from the exam. The one that glasses-boy lumped with him for an insult.

"If you're here to have fun, I suggest leaving now."

Akira was about to make more jokes with Sero when the voice interrupted everyone. A moment later, a drowsy looking man in black dragging a sleeping bag walked inside the classroom. He then proceeded to spend the next two minutes staring at the class. It was a little unnerving.

"Is he a threat?"

"I- don't think so?"

"It too you all too long to get ready," the man suddenly said, his tone bored and voice drawling. "You should all strive to be more logical. Now put on your uniforms and meet me outside."

And with that, he walked outside. He then turned around a looked at the class again.

"By the way, before I forget, my name is Aizawa. I'm your homeroom teacher. Now get moving."

He closed the door behind him, leaving behind a very confused and slightly concerned class.

Akira leaned over to the person sitting next to him. A blonde boy with a tail.

"Do you know anything about a uniform? I only bought this one."

Everyone put on their uniforms and walked outside. There was an entire athletic field waiting for them. And Aizawa was waiting for his class as well.

"Take a look at that wall there," Aizawa told us the moment we were all outside.

We all looked at the wall and saw a sheet of paper on it. The paper was a list, one of ten names. Each name had a number attached to it.

"That list is of the top ten scorers from the entrance exam. Read them closely."

Akira took a good look and memorized the list.

Akira Akahane- 79

Katsuki Bakugo- 77

Eijiro Kirishima- 74

Ibara Shiozaki- 68

Itsuka Kendo- 65

Tenya Iida- 61

Izuku Midoriya- 60

Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu- 59

Fumikage Tokoyami- 57

Ochako Uraraka- 52

"And here I wanted to not be the center of attention" Akira solemnly contemplated as he felt everyone's eyes fall on him. One set of red eyes was particularly focused on him. And not in a good way.

"Why did I have to get so many points?"

"We wanted to ensure entrance into this school."

"That didn't mean I wanted to stand out Alpha."

"Akahane," Aizawa calls out. "You got the highest amount of points on the exam. Come here."

Akira steps away from the class and walks towards him. Aizawa tosses him a ball.

"Toss that ball from inside that circle there. But I want you to use your quirk."

Use my power? To toss a ball?

"I believe I see the purpose of this. Proceed with the demonstration Akira Akahane. I will supply the proper tools for this exercise."

Not really understanding, but deciding to trust Alpha, Akira steps into the circle. Once inside it, he grabbed the ball in his left hand. He stretches out his right and lets the nanites form the metal shape gauntlet. One by one, from the elbow down, his right arm is sheathed in the black and silver machinery that Alpha constructs around it.

He can hear the rest of the class talking about it.

"You guys see that? I've never seen a quirk like that!" Denki exclaims.

"It is not beautiful, but it is certainly eye-catching," some super clean blonde kid says. What he is talking about, Akira does not know.

"Indeed. Truly, a remarkable power" Iida says.

"It is amazing. And unique" Izuku responds.

Akira's eyes widened for a moment. This was different. Usually, any attention directed at him was to make fun of his quirklessness. Or it passed in a second because there was nothing interesting about him. But the 1A kids, his class, were paying attention to him for positive reasons. They thought his quirk (power that was given via nanite injection) was cool.

That was... new.

"Any time now," Aizawa muttered.

Shaking his head back to focus, Akira rears back his metal hand, the ball held tightly in his grip. He smashes the ball forward, hurling it through the air. It leaves behind a trail of gas as it flies away.

"220 meters" Aizawa states as everyone watches the ball disappear from view. "Ever since Elementary school, you've all been told to compete without using your quirks. But all men are not created equal, so continuing to compete in that way would be illogical."

He turned to the class. "For today, I'm going to have all you performing exercises. I want you to use your quirks on them."

"We get to use our quirks?"

"This ought to be fun!"

"Fun huh?" Aizawa smirks. The expression almost looks unnatural on his face. "In that case, the person who comes in last will be determined to have no potential and expelled henceforth."

The result was instant. Everybody sweat-dropped.

"WHAT?!"

"But it's only the first day! There should be an entrance ceremony or something! You can't just expel us!" Ochako exclaimed.

"That's where your wrong" Aizawa calmly retorts. "Being a U.A. teacher allows us plenty of freedom to teach as we please. If there is anyone who doesn't show the potential to be a great hero, then there is no reason for anyone's time to be wasted on them."

"I see the logic in this approach. Weed out the weak links to prevent the chain from staggering."

"Maybe. Still seems pretty cruel" I mentally respond.

"If there are no more objections, let's begin."

Fifty-Meter Dash

Akira is put next to the brown-haired girl for this one.

"I ought to lighten myself up," she says as she touches her feet and shoulders.

"The records of this girl state her name to be Ochako Uraraka. They also reveal that her quirk allows her to lessen the gravitational hold on an object by touching it. She seems to be using that ability to lighten herself and increase speed."

"Stop hacking things," Akira mutters as the nanites from his boots.

"Those are pretty big," Ochako says beside him. She has to look up to make eye contact.

"Gotta make the run somehow," Akira tells her.

"Go," the robot overseeing the run says.

They take off. Well, Akira charges forward, the metal legs making sure he gets the lead. He loses sight of Ochako just as he passes the line.

"2.7 seconds," the robot says once he passes.

"Nice."

"7.15 seconds," the robot says. Akira turns to see Ochako catching her breath.

"Wow. You moved fast. How did you make those?" She gestures at Akira's metal legs.

"I can pretty much make any tool I need," Akira tells her as he disassembled the machine.

"Man, that sounds useful."

"Yeah. It is."

Long-Jump

Akira manifested his boots again for this one.

"Using the same dumb boots? Not very creative, are you?" that angry blonde kid condescendingly asks. "Bet those shitty things won't do any good."

"Challenge accepted jackass"Akira mentally states as he primes his knees. Akira leaps and the one jump take shim further than blondies explosions are capable of carrying him. He crosses the boundary in a second. He actually went a lot further than the frog girl (her name was Asui, Akira reminded himself) landing severe feet past the white line. A new record.

When Akira lands, he can tell everyone (sans Aizawa, whose face hasn't changed from annoyed) is impressed. Blondie just looks even more pissed than before.

"I can get used to this," Akira tells himself as the class keeps moving.

"What's next?"

Grip Strength

Akira stared at the grip tester inside his metal hand. He knew what would happen if he closed his fist. He actually wasn't sure he wanted to do it.

"We don't have all day. Hurry up."

Shrugging, Akira put aside his small feelings of guilt. He crushed the little machine in his massive hand, leaving only tiny pieces to crumble on the floor.

"Bit of overkill, don't you think?" Sero said as he walked up beside Akira.

"Yeah. Got the job done though, right?"

"True," Sero agreed. "Think anything interesting will come next?"

The rest of the tests pretty much went the same. Mr. Aizawa would ask his class to do something, and Akira would use his nanites to create exactly what he needed to pass.

I was also able to get some info on the rest of the class. Akira already knew Hanta Sero and his incredible power of literally shooting tape.

The tall girl is called Momo Yaoyorozu. She seems nice enough.

"Alright, everyone. Gather around" Aizawa calls.

He pushes a button on a device in his hand. The scores for the test show. The person in the first place is...

"Akahane. You are in the top spot" Iida tells him.

"I noticed" Akira calmly replies. Even though he didn't necessarily feel all that calm at the moment.

It is pretty cool. Yeah, the attention is new, and he's not sure he's used to it. But still, being noticed for something that isn't a lack of a quirk is something Akira appreciates.

He keeps smiling as he reads the rest of the list. The smile vanishes when he reaches the bottom.

The last place's name is Izuku Midoriya.

He should have seen it coming, even if it made no sense. Izuku had destroyed the big robot at the exam with one punch but had been struggling with the exercises ever since they started.

"Remember Akira Akahane. Izuku Midoriya suffered grievous wounds after destroying the robot. Perhaps his own power is something that could backfire on him if overused."

"Makes sense," Akira mentally agreed.

"I did say earlier that the person in the last place would be expelled" Aizawa stated. I could practically hear Izuku's tears about to fall. I only met the guy for a few minutes, but I couldn't help but feel bad. I would probably miss him.

"Lucky for that person, I was lying."

... What?

"What?!" The rest of the class yelled.

"It was a bluff. One meant to bring out the best in you to determine your potential."

"A logical ruse. I'm surprised no one else realized it" Yaoyorozu said.

"A lie? From U.A? Why? But to help us? But why? Why...?"

While Mineta had his existential crisis, Midoriya sighed in relief. "...'t get expelled."

'You all have potential. Even those who still need work. It's U.A's job to bring out your full potential.

If nothing else, remember the school motto. Go Beyond. Plus Ultra."

"PLUS UlTRA!"

Akira might have joined in, but everyone else's scream was so loud that he may have gotten drowned out.

"Everyone, go back inside to change," Aizawa said. "Akahane. Stay here for a second. I need to discuss something with you."

That catches Akira off guard. What does Aizawa need from him? But still, it wasn't like he could just say no. Sohe stayed behind while the rest of the students went to change.

"Yes, Mr. Aizawa?"

"I had two main issues with your performance today. One was your lack of effort in the tests."

"Lack of effort?" Akira questions.

"Everyone else was giving these tests their all. You were simply cruising by them. You even used the same machines for different courses, showing a lack of variety. Hero work is not something you can relax in, so I expect you to take this more seriously in the future. Understood?"

"Yeah. Yeah. I'll try to fix that" Akira tells him. He's going to have to figure out a believable way to do that first. "What's the second issue?"

"Your power. Explain it to me."

Akira frowns. Out of all the requests he could have gotten from his teacher, this one is probably the most left-field. Shouldn't he have gotten an explanation with Akira's registration?

But Aizawa's raised brow makes it clear that he doesn't have much patience. And Akira would rather avoid suspicion.

"My quirk is called Alpha. It's basically a hive of nanoscopic machines that live inside my body. I can control them, and make them build what I want?"

Aizawa raises a brow. "Anything?"

"Anything that can feasibly work. I can't just build a time machine or anything like that."

"I see," Aizawa said as he lazily scratched his chin. "You can go then."

Confused, Akira nonetheless decided to get moving. He didn't want to be too late.

Since I got held up talking to the teacher, I get back to the classroom later than the rest. I open the door and walk inside.

"Hey! It's you" the kid with the spiky red hair comes up to me. "You were awesome out there. All those weapons you were making. My name is Kirishima by the way."

"Akira Akahane" I introduce. "I'm cool with just Akira."

I turn my head and notice something. "Where's Midoriya?"

"He had to go to the nurse because of his finger," Ochako says next to me. I guess that's where she's sitting. "But still, I think you and he were the most impressive today. I know he kinda failed, but that ball toss was awesome."

"Yeah. But I was wondering..."

"Akira Akahane!" A voice interrupts him. Iida Tenya is walking up to his desk.

He bows his head.

"Forgive me!" He practically yells. "I belittled you at the entrance exam. I spent the rest of that day thinking of you as nothing more than a mannerless ruffian. Just like Midoriya earlier, I realize now that you better than me. Please forgive me!"

"Woah, dude, calm down," Akira quickly says while waving his hands. "We're cool man. No need to apologize. I just don't like it when people seem condescending."

"Thank you for your forgiveness! I will work to ensure that I am more considerate in the future!"

"Uh, your welcome. Don't worry, we're cool."

And just like that, Akira starts having a conversation with my classmates. In Elementary and Junior High, no one wanted to talk to him because of his quirklessness. No one wanted to associate with a quirkless nobody.

But now he is a U.A. student. He has a power that justifies his being here. Even if it isn't... entirely normal. So people aren't looking down on him. They're actually willing to talk to Akira. It.. it really does feel nice.

It is so nice in fact that Akira misses the death glare that a blonde kid is giving him behind his desk.

Aizawa would have to discuss a few things with Nezu today. One was the ranking he made for his class. Some of the kids had potential, but some had more than others. Midoriya would need to work harder if he wanted to catch. And some of the other kids would need to learn to get serious real soon. Hero work should not be treated as a game. So some of the kids would have to stop playing.

Another thing he would have to discuss with Nezu was Akahane. And what sort of power he had exactly. It wasn't a quirk. A quirk would have some sort of reaction to Aizawa's eyes. Only mutation quirks had some immunity, and even then they would likely still react.

Akahane had no reaction. His machine didn't fall apart. It didn't stop moving. Nothing happened. And the kid kept going on as if nothing was occurring.

Aizawa would need to figure this out. Sooner would be better than later.

Akio was finishing up making food when he heard the door open.

"Akira?"

"Yeah, dad. It's me," Akira said as he walked inside. He dropped his backpack in the living room and sat down in the kitchen. He was waiting for food.

"How was your day?" Akio set some food down for both of them.

"Not too bad. I think this might work out."

Class-1A has been met. A quirk assessment test has been taken. A place in the school has been secured. I think Akira's day has been rather productive.

Also, I think I finally made a decision on the pairing for this story. It took me a while, but I think the choice I made could make the story a bit more interesting. I won't tell you who it is, I want to keep it a surprise.

I will only give a few hints. It's not someone who goes to school with Akira. She is older than him. They have had no previous interaction. And she is someone that no one has suggested or guessed. That's all I'm giving. Also, the actual romance won't show up until much later in the story. Much later.

Anyways, please leave reviews, tell me what you think, and I will see you all next time.

Bye!
