A/N: I don't own Fablehaven. This chapter will contain some fluff so prepare your hearts everyone. Enjoy.
Bracken asked everyone to come to Kendra's room for a meeting. Kendra was still to weak to move around. She would live but the dark unicorn Tryne - his uncle - had done a number on her. He still needed to ask his mother about it. He told himself to wait for Kendra to fully recover before going so Kendra could come with him.
Warren was the first to enter. He walked over to Kendra's bedside gave her a noogie then sat down while they both laughed. Vanessa came in shortly after Warren did. She sat on the other side of Kendra's bed. Seth came in and sat down on the bed a little harder than necessary which made Kendra jump. Everyone including Bracken laughed.
"Alright everyone," Bracken said. "We have successfully protected this preserve."
"All thanks to Kendra." Warren interjected.
"Right. Our little piston of light saved us." Vanessa agreed.
"Ya sis you rock." Seth stated.
Kendra blushed and giggled. "It was really nothing guys."
"It was not nothing." Bracken argued. "You saved me Kendra. You have saved me more than once."
"Well the easy answer to that is I love you." Kendra said.
Bracken blushed the deepest color of silver. Oh gosh was that really happening. In front of the blix no less. "I love you too. Anyway, umm." What was he going to say. Oh right. "When I met Kendra in her prison she was imprisoned by a dark unicorn."
Seth immediatley said, "Ronodin."
"Unfortunelty no. This is a new foe. His name is Tryne. And he is my uncle."
"Bracken buddy. Why on Earth are you related to the only known dark unicorns?" Warren asked.
"I wish I knew. From my knowledge my uncle died a long time ago."
"Umm guys speaking of dark unicorns when Kendra is well enough to leave we still have to hold up our deal with Humbuggle." Seth said.
Kendra looked very confused. "What do you mean? What do you have to do?"
"Part of the deal we made with Humbuggle to get my memories back was to kill Ronodin." Seth replied.
Kendra looked horrified. "No. No you can't. Ronodin has every right to live as anyone else. Guys I risked my life so he could be spared. Please don't do this."
Bracken sighed. "Kendra if we don't kill Ronodin Seth will lose his memories again."
Kendra sighed too. "Bracken take me to the Queen." She had a no nonsense tone in her voice.
"But Kendra." He stammered. "You aren't well enough yet."
"Bracken please there is something we need to talk to her about."
He couldn't argue with that. "Okay, let's go." He picked her up bridal style and walked towards the door.
"Dude," Warren said. "Do even know where the shrine is?"
"Yes. I helped build it." Bracken replied.
"Fair point. But how will you get there?"
"I'll walk. It isn't far."
"Can I come with you?" Warren asked.
"Sure. Though you still can't get onto the shrine."
"I know I just want to escort you."
"Alright let's go."
They walked in almost complete silence. Kendra rambled on about how the Queen never knew she got better and how she was being carried almost like last time she saw the Queen and she was in her pajama's the Queen wouldn't be impressed an…
"Kendra." Bracken cut her off. "My mother isn't going to care what you are wearing. All she will care about is you are better. She will also care about the information we bring."
She sighed. "Okay I'll stop worrying." She smiled.
Warren laughed. "Kendra you are the biggest worry wart I have ever met."
"I am not." She protested.
"Are too. You worried the day after Vanessa was shut in the quiet box that you wouldn't have anyone to talk to anymore." Warren said.
Bracken snickered. "Did that really happen?"
"Yes it did." Warren teased.
Kendra turned bright red. "Well at the time I was very lonely. I still had half the summer to kill by myself."
"What do you mean by yourself? You had me for 2 weeks and Seth the whole time." Warren responded.
"Ya but you left. And Seth went on excursions with Coulter. I was alone a lot."
They walked up to where Warren had to stop. "Well I will see you two in a minute. We will continue this conversation though."
The island wasn't guarded by any magical creatures. Though it was guarded by an enchantment. It was the same feeling as when you took a horn of a unicorn. Bracken felt guilt for even attempting to enter this hollowed ground. He wanted to turn back. But he had a purpose. When the enchantment saw his intentions it dropped. He sighed in relief. And continued toward the shrine.
When they reached the tiny statue of a fairy Kendra immediately felt the Queens presence.
Kendra dear you're alright.
"Yes, your majesty I'm fine." Kendra said. "We have learned some information that might be of use to you."
What is it?
"I was in a magical coma. While I was there a dark unicorn held me prisoner. He said his name was Tryne. He wanted to now the identity of your children. I didn't tell him and Bracken lied so he doesn't know Bracken's a prince. All he knows is you have 4 daughters. He thinks you had a 5th daughter that died at the battle of Zzyzx."
This is disturbing news. My own Brother. After my children.
"I wanted to ask you about that." Bracken said. "Why is my uncle who I thought dead after us. What do you know."
My son. I never thought this would happen. I knew your father was inside of Zzyzx for a while before the battle. So I sent my most trusted warrior to retrieve him. My brother entered Zzyzx on my command to return my husband. When he never returned I presumed him dead. I never thought he would come out as a dark unicorn. I'm so sorry.
Bracken looked hurt. He had lived without a father for a millennium. Kendra hugged him best to her ability.
"Mother how could you have lied to me, to my sisters, to your subjects. We deserved the right to know. Our father, our King could have been rescued. We could have had him back." Bracken was in tears now.
I'm sorry. Was all she managed to say.
"I'm going to stop and destroy Tryne and Ronodin. And there is nothing you can do to stop me." Bracken picked Kendra up and left.
Kendra worried about Bracken. She had never seen him this angry before. What was he capable of?
The walk back to the fortress was completely silent. Not even Warren cracked a smile. When they went inside Bracken set Kendra in her room then headed off to his.
That night Kendra found her strength return to her legs. She decided to test them out. She walked to the door. A little wobbly but other than that perfectly fine. She walked down to Bracken's room. When she got to the room she heard crying. She peeked in and found Bracken sitting on his bed with his head in his hands.
Kendra felt she should leave him alone. But the love of her life was in pain. She walked in and sat down next to him. She held him until his breathing slowed. Bracken fell asleep in her arms.
"Oh Bracken you have the world on your shoulders. Sleep peacefully for just this night. Tomorrow will be better."
Kendra layed him down. She walked to her own room. She fell asleep easily knowing everyone was at peace. Even if it was just one night.
