Chapter seven:

Matt sends the complete report to headquarters. "Okay. We will need to wait now for them to respond." He turns to the other two. "I will keep an eye out for their response. To make sure that we can move forward with the next step that we need to take."

"Okay." Mello gets up to his feet. "Then lets act like normal. While keeping an eye on things in the mean time." He leaves the room with Near following after. He heads off to the common area and Near goes to his room. He is walking along and finishes his chocolate bar. He glances spotting Rodger heading for the front door. He has no doubt that the other is heading out somewhere. He stuffs the wrapper into his pocket dashing to the back heading out. He goes into the woods then climbs a tree to get over the wall around the orphanage. He lands on the other side and heads to go to where he can see the front of the orphanage. He spots that Rodger is ensuring that the gates locked behind himself. He ducks out of sight as the other turns to the direction he is in. He hears footsteps growing closer and closer to where he is. He crouches behind a bush and a shadow falls over him for a moment as Rodger passes right by him. He watches the other keep going not even noticing that the blonde is there. He follows along staying a little behind to try to not alert the other. He also doesn't look right at him so that he won't feel someone's gaze on him. He moves into a line for a store for a brief moment as Rodger does a quick glance back.

Rodgers glance is too quick to realize that Mello is in a line. He just doesn't see anyone going the same direction he is. He turns away then turns a corner.

Mello moves out of the line heading over to the corner where he slightly peers around it before going around. He keeps following Rodger then notices him go across the street. He goes into an alleyway where he watches a silver colored car pull up. He takes out his phone quickly snapping a picture of the licence plate. He texts it over to Matt then watches as Rodger enters the passenger side of the car. He doesn't dare get any closer and the windows are too tinted for him to see anything from over here. He turns away leaning against the alley wall as he waits for his red head teammate to text him back. He finally gets the message back after about two minutes. He opens his phone looking at it.

That car is coming back to a silver Prius. The name that I am getting with it is Jason Kevin. Prior convictions for possession of drugs and distributing them. I took a quick look at family members. His father Peter Kevin is in prison for kidnapping kids and having child pornography. Busted after a cop infiltrated a party set up by Peter for other perverts.

Mello sends a text back.

Then this could be one of those who are working to take the orphans. He must have told Rodger that he had no choice but to meet with him right now. It sounds like he might have prior knowledge on the dark web. This has to be someone involved in Linda's kidnapping.

Mello turns back to the car seeing it still sitting there. He wonders what the two have to discuss right now. He then notices Rodger get out of the car that drives off after he shuts the door. He spies a briefcase held in one of Rodgers hands now.

Rodger heads on away though not towards the orphanage.

Mello goes to pursue the other once more wondering where he could be going now. He grabs a magazine from a box with them and pretends to be reading it covering his face while Rodger pauses at an alleyway. He feels eyes on him briefly as he pretends to flip a page without revealing his face. He lowers it when the feeling of being looked at goes away. He sees Rodger heading into the alley so he puts the magazine down to follow after the other. He crouches behind a car as the other goes up a driveway. He peeks out hearing a gate unlatch only to watch the older man enter into a backyard. He turns away getting a text which he checks.

I am tracking Rodgers cell. He is going into his actual home. According to the registration of the place.

Mello sends a reply mentioning the briefcase then reads Matt's response to that text.

I agree that he must be dropping off whatever is in there. Or he is going to take a look at its contents. We can't be sure if Jason is someone who helped take Linda or if he is someone who is trying to blackmail Rodger.

Mello agrees that there is a possibility of blackmail as they don't know Jason's skills or intentions. He sends back a response rather quickly.

We should sneak into Rodgers house at some point then. I'll head back for now and we'll meet up again at some point. We will have to get in there when he might not be there or he might be asleep. Depending on how we plan this whole thing out. Tell Near what we have just gathered and maybe we'll meet tonight. We need to move quickly after all. More orphans could go missing.

With that Mello heads back to the orphanage for now. He heads to the library to do some of his homework that he has to do. He remembers hearing about an orphan who went by A went missing during the night.

After A disappeared Beyond Birthday started to go insane over worry of where the other was as they were close. The two of them having been the top two students at Whammy's orphanage at the time.

Beyond Birthday ended up committing murders blaming L for A not being found as an entire year passed. He wanted to create a case that L couldn't solve to try to ruin the great detectives reputation. He ended up failing and was arrested taken to a mental institution.

Thus it was seen as an investigation was needed and it got passed to them by an FBI agent who had heard of the group. Knowing that they had a better chance of getting trained agents into the orphanage to figure out what is going on. They did have a suspect and with confirmation that it is who they thought had done it then they had their second step to do.

Mello knows that the kidnap of A was very much like the kidnap of Linda. So he is aware of two orphans having been taken from this place, confirming that action was indeed required on this. He tries to focus on finishing his homework so enough time passes by for the meeting to come sooner.
