RWMtB: Ever After

Bella and Sarah: The Sex Talk

Bella stood silently at her kitchen window, watching her daughter sitting with her boyfriend, the two of them under the large oak tree outside her home. Seth was sitting with his back against the trunk of the tree while Sarah was seated between his legs, her back to his chest and his arms around her shoulders. The two of them were talking, smiling, and laughing, the two of them being completely wholesome with their time together. Bella watched as Seth whispered something in Sarah's ear, her daughter's smile turning into a grin before turning her head to give him a sweet kiss.

She smiled at the sight, thinking it to be very sweet. Seth was a good man and was honestly perfect for Sarah; he had Imprinted on her, after all. He respected her, cared about her, was protective of her, and let Sarah set the pace of their relationship. Bella knew her daughter and while she was positive Seth and Sarah hadn't jumped ahead in their relationship physically—God forbid if they had, because she could only imagine the wrath that would come upon them in the form of Jacob Black—she also knew that the time had come to have the sex talk with Sarah. Her daughter may not be thinking about it now, just simply enjoying having Seth as a romantic partner, but that didn't mean she wouldn't later. And thus, Bella wanted to speak with her now, especially now that Sarah was with the man of her dreams.

Bella waited for another fifteen minutes before Seth and Sarah finally stood from underneath the oak tree and moved back towards the house. She watched as Sarah walked Seth to his car before hugging him close, the two of them sharing a sweet, loving kiss before bidding each other 'goodbye'. Soon Seth was in his car and driving away from the Black family home while Sarah was moving to enter it.

Meeting Sarah at the door, Bella smiled at seeing Sarah almost startle at her appearance before asking, "Did you have a good time with Seth?"

A happy grin appeared on Sarah's face as she answered, "I always have a good time with Sethy."

"That's good. Speaking of Seth, I would like to talk to you about something, Sarah."

Sarah frowned and followed her mother into the kitchen, wondering just what it was that she wanted to talk with her about. As they sat at the kitchen table, she had a brief thought that her mom would tell her that Seth was too old for her but realized that if her mother was against the age gap, she would have spoken up about it. Then again, maybe it was because she knew Seth had Imprinted and thus knew there was nothing to be done. Then again, it could be something entirely different and she had nothing to worry about. But whatever it was, she just hoped her mother wouldn't make her break up with Seth.

Once they were settled, Sarah asked almost hesitantly, "What is this about?"

Bella looked her daughter square in her matching eyes and said, "It's about you and Seth. I know that you have been in love with Seth for a while now-"

"I never said I was in love with him."

"Don't deny it, Sarah. Trust me, it does more harm than good. Anyway, you've been in love with him for a while and you two are finally together romantically. I know it must be like a dream come true for you, and I like that you two are together; you both are cute together. That being said, now that you finally have a boyfriend, and one that you obviously feel strongly about, I think it's time that you and I have the sex talk."

Sarah blinked as she stared at her mother before her eyes widened in shock. She then covered her face and groaned out, "Oh God…"

"Sarah, it's important that we have this talk. I know you had the class in school, but you need to have it with me."

"Mom, I really don't want to have this talk right now."

Sarah made to get up from the table and leave, but stopped when her mother asked, "Would you rather have this talk with your father when he gets home?"

Bella watched as her daughter froze where she was before sitting back down with a huff, crossing her arms with an annoyed and embarrassed look on her face. Looking back at her mother she said, "Alright, let's talk."

Smiling, Bella nodded and began. "I'm not going to tell you how sex works. I'm sure you already have an understanding and saw a visual at school. But I do want to tell you that when you do take the step to physically express your love with Seth, I want you to understand the gravity of it. It is a big step, especially because it will be your first time. You losing your virginity may or may not be a big deal to you when you do, but I don't want you to rush it and regret doing so once the deed is done."

Sarah nodded slowly before saying, "But Seth doesn't want that with me just yet."

"I know that, and I know you don't want it just yet either, but I'm telling you ahead of time to have you prepared and to really think about it. This is something that can weigh heavily on your mind for…well, for however long it will."

"Did…did you regret it when you lost yours?"

Bella blinked in surprise before answering honestly, "No, because it was with your father and I loved him very much. At the same time, I did because I was getting married to Edward at the time and had a moment of unfaithfulness. It wasn't right but listening to your heart and head at the same time is a struggle, especially when your head is telling you to ignore your heart."

Sarah was quiet for a moment, thinking deeply about what her mom had said. After a moment of silence, she asked, "So I should listen to my heart when it tells me that I'm ready than think I am when I'm not?"

"Yes, that's a good way to put it. Of course, your situation is different from mine, which I find good because I would hate if you were going through what I did. But like I was saying, sex isn't something to take lightly and when you do take that step Sarah, I want you to do so for the right reasons, and not because you think you're ready when you're not, or because Seth talked you into it, something I'm sure he'd never do. Just…don't rush it."

"Okay," Sarah said. She understood what her mother was telling her, she really did, and she appreciated that she had decided to speak with her about it. Sex wasn't something she was interested in right now, nor was Seth interested in it. He had told her so and because she knew him so well, she knew he was telling the truth—he was her best friend, after all. In fact, thinking of when they had briefly touched on the subject in the beginning of their relationship, Seth had told her something that had surprised her, yet had made her smile all the same. Thinking of it now made her smile, especially in concerns to the talk she had just had with her mother.

Bella, seeing the smile on her daughter's face, raised an eyebrow and asked, "What is that smile for?"

Sarah looked back at her mother and said, "Don't tell anyone that I told you this, but Seth is a virgin still, too."

Chocolate brown eyes widened in shock before Bella asked, "Really?"

"Yes, he is. We touched briefly on this subject and he admitted that he was still one. He'd tried dating, but they never lasted long because they didn't feel right, and thus he never took that step with those girls. I guess he was waiting for the right person to come along."

Bella nodded and smiled before saying, "And then he Imprinted on you. And look at you two now."

"Mom, don't be embarrassing!" Sarah said, her face turning red.

The brunette laughed at her daughter before asking her if she had any more questions. When Sarah told her no, Bella let her go under the promise that if she did, she'd come to her and ask. As Sarah left the kitchen to head to her room, Bella sat with a small smile, satisfied that she had had the sex talk with Sarah. Even if Sarah had no intention of having sex with Seth yet, it was still important she had the talk with her, and she was glad she did. Her daughter was responsible and wouldn't make any irresponsible or stupid decisions without seriously thinking over the repercussions. And she knew this subject was something that Sarah wouldn't take lightly, no matter how she felt.

Glad that the talk was done, Bella got up to start preparing dinner, deciding on T-bone steaks with mashed potatoes and buttered broccoli. She knew her husband would be pleased with the dinner she chose to make, especially with her making him two steaks. A brief thought passed her mind of what would have happened if Jacob had to have been the one to give Sarah the sex talk, and she couldn't help but shake her head with a laugh. Jacob would have embarrassed both himself and their daughter, probably even horrified her. Yes, it was a good thing she spoke with her instead.
