"Come on Ed." Peter said gently as he stood from the sofa late that night. "You look like you're about to fall asleep."

Edmund glanced up from the chess board he'd been frowning over. "I'm fine." He said.

Peter raised an eyebrow. "Ed you nearly faceplanted the board!" He exclaimed with a quiet chuckle.

"Come on!" Edmund said. "I'm about to beat you! Can't we just f - finish t-he-" But he was cut off by a loud yawn that escaped his mouth, causing Peter to laugh playfully.

"It's late and you're tired." Peter said, standing and walking around the table. "You need to sleep."

Edmund stared up at him for a while before sighing, nodding his head. "Alright." He mumbled, standing from the table.

"You still in my room?" Peter asked as they headed up through the castle.

Edmund hesitated. "If it's okay with you?" He asked.

"Of course it is Ed." Peter replied, a soft smile on his face.

"Thanks." Edmund breathed, resting his head against Peter's arm as they walked.

After a minute or two they reached the door to Peter's room, and were about to enter when they heard footsteps coming from down the corridor.

Peter glanced up, and to his annoyance found the faun who'd called Edmund a traitor walking towards them.

"Pete." Edmund mumbled, looking down and trying to push him to open the door. "Just leave it."

Peter ignored him and waited until the faun got closer.

"You majesty." He said, bowing his head as he passed.

Peter scowled, not missing the fact that he had said majesty and not majesties.

Edmund thought that the faun would continue walking, but after a second he turned around and frowned. "Is your brother spending the night with you?" He asked, staring at Peter and totally ignoring Edmund.

Peter grit his teeth. "Yes he is." He said firmly, going to open the door.

"Is that a wise idea?" The faun asked, stopping Peter as he gripped the door handle.

"Peter just go." Edmund whispered.

But Peter once again ignored him. "I trust my brother." He snapped. "I do not believe he would try and kill me."

"Well," The faun muttered with a short nod. "Don't say I didn't warn you."

Peter's eyes went wide. "I-" He went to say but was cut off by his brother, he was pushing him firmly towards the door.

Sighing slightly he opened it and Edmund quite literally shoved Peter inside, closing the door quietly behind him.

"Ed." Peter mumbled as Edmund walked across the room and sat down on the bed.

"Just leave it Peter." Edmund sighed. "There's no point."

Peter bit his lip and sat down beside Edmund, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. "We will get to the bottom of this." He murmered. "I promise you we will."

Edmund nodded. "But on top of all this about me being framed," He said slowly. "We've got the threat of the army attacking."

Peter sighed. "Yeah." He breathed. "But we'll be ready if they do."

Edmund nodded. "I know we will." He said somewhat firmly.

There was silence for a while before Peter sat bolt upright, Edmund's head falling off his shoulder. "Ow." He muttered. "What's wrong?"

Peter hesitated. "We think it's one of the witches followers who've framed you right?" He said slowly.

Edmund nodded. "Yeah." He said.

"Well, they obviously want you to be hated," Peter said slowly. "They obviously want you either gone, or dead-"

"What are you getting at?" Edmund asked, a hint of worry in his voice that Peter was unable to ignore.

"If their plan doesn't work," Peter continued. "If they attack, they might, no they will, come searching for you."

Edmund swallowed hard. "You really think they would?" He asked.

"Well if their plan doesn't work..." Peter choked, shaking his head and burying his head in his hands. "Oh Aslan." He murmered, taking a deep breath.

"I'll be fine Peter." Edmund said slowly, reaching up and placing a hand on Peter's back. "Anyway, you'll protect me... you always do."

Peter took another deep breath and looked up at his younger brother. "That's the thing Ed." He said. "Orious said that there were loads of them, if they manage to actually take over Cair, you - you won't stand a chance."

"Well what are we supposed to do?" Edmund questioned. "It's not like I'm going to leave or anything."

Peter frowned... maybe-?

"Pete?" Edmund asked.

Peter shook his head. "I'll have a think about it tonight." He mumbled. "But one thing I do know is that they are not getting their hands on you, no matter what."

Edmund nodded slightly. "I know." He breathed.

Peter smiled gently. "Come on." He sighed. "Get dressed and then into bed."

Edmund nodded and stood from the bed, giving Peter's back a reassuring pat before heading off to get changed.

Once they were both ready for bed, Peter forced Edmund under the covers, wrapping them tightly around him.

"Any tighter and I won't be able to breathe." Edmund told him, smirking.

Peter smiled a little. "Sorry." He said, climbing in beside him.

The two lay in silence for a moment before Edmund shuffled over and curled up against his brother, getting a soft smile from Peter.

"I wont go anywhere Ed." He whispered. "You have my word."

Edmund swallowed hard and buried his face against Peter's shoulder. "I know." He choked. "I just really don't want to dream again."

"I don't want you to dream either." Peter replied with a sad sigh. "But maybe you wont?"

Edmund shrugged. "Maybe." He sighed. "I'm just annoyed that the dreams started this early, its only November."

Peter sighed. "Just get some sleep." He murmered. "Aslan knows you need it."

Edmund nodded. "And you'll get some sleep too?" He asked, glancing up.

Peter hesitated. "Once I've figured out what we're going to do, yeah." He answered after a moment.

Edmund didn't look at all happy with this but nodded his head anyway, burying his face back against Peter's shoulder and falling into a deep sleep.

Peter lay there long after he'd fallen asleep, trying his hardest to think up of some sort of plan.

They'd obviously have to be ready if the witches army did attack, and that was easily done... but if they came after Edmund.

Peter wasn't sure if he'd be able to protect him, especially if they were defeated.

Peter shook his head quickly, they would not be defeated, not if he had anything to say about it.

Swallowing hard Peter looked down at Edmund, who was sleeping peacefully, his head resting gently against Peter's chest.

"I will protect you." He murmered, running his hand through Edmund's hair and down the back of his neck. "No matter what, I will protect you-" He paused, forcing back any tears. "Even if it means I have to send you away."
