OMG! What have we done?
"Avatar, we are so honored to have you in our home. As you can see we live a simple life with our poor, blind, helpless, little daughter. It is all we can do to provide a life for her that perhaps has some meaning." Lao Bei Fong began.
Aang blinked. Sokka sat with his mouth open and Katara tried her best to hold back the snort of derision that threatened to escape. Were they talking about the same girl at the table? This chick may be blind but she was far from poor, helpless, or little where it counted. She may be the greatest master of earth bending that no one knew about except maybe the fans of the illicit underground bending competition, Earth Rumble.
Before Aang could say anything about what he witnessed, Toph kicked him with a large pillar of rock under his chair. He pinched his mouth closed to keep from yelling.
"Thank you so much for your hospitality," he choked out. Poppy Bei Fong was as lost as a sheep nearing a cliff. "Awww, look dear. The Avatar is overwhelmed with emotion. He can barely contain himself. Let's not embarrass him shall we?" she said beaming. Toph put on a sickeningly sweet voice. "Mother, after dinner may I accompany our guests on a short walk in the courtyard? I would feel quite safe in their care." She added. The Bei Fongs gleamed with the light of a thousand suns at their daughter's courage and gave permission without impunity.
In the courtyard, the other Toph emerged, "Seriously, you guys almost messed up my whole racket! You were just going to tell them, Twinkletoes?" Aang stood bewildered before his potential Earth bending master. "Uhhh. Why not? You are an amazing bender and they have no clue!" he defended. Toph cackled like an old hag. "They have no clue because they choose not to have a clue! I don't want to be your stupid earth master and I think you all should go for trying to ruin my life." Toph demanded. The siblings looked at each other and then at Aang. Aang was sad but what else could he do? He didn't want to get another master like Jeong Jeong who was reluctant and careless as an instructor.
"Ok, it was never my plan to force you. We'll leave before sunrise." He said. The next morning, Aang and his companions bowed to the Bei Fongs thanking them for their hospitality, and mounted the faithful air bison, Appa. Once they took off, one of the packs began to wiggle and move. Sokka took out his boomerang to see what critter may have invaded their stuff and gasped as the tiny earth bender emerged. "So, where exactly are we headed, Snoozles? She said to the slightly bewildered and extremely surprised Water Tribe warrior. "So dead…" he whispered. "We're so dead."
