Hey guys. I decided I wanted to update pretty quick, I guess this is more of a filler chapter. I wanted to get to the good stuff, so I may have skipped a few things. The problem is that I remember everything about the Percy Jackson series(s), abut not that much about the Goblet of Fire book. Guess who has some rereading to do over the weekend...
Percy POV:
I woke up with a sore neck and fuzzy vision.
My eyes eventually cleared, but wow. Whatever Hecate did up there must have done something besides "instill me with knowledge." Groggily running a hand through my hair, I pushed myself up on one elbow and used my free hand to search under my pillow for whatever caused the crick in my neck.
My hand came out again holding a stick.
Well, it was a fancy stick, with carvings on it and stuff, but it was still a stick.
But as soon as the thought entered my mind, it was replaced by different information. I looked at the stick more closely, and thought, twelve inches, slightly bendy, made of pine. Pearl and hippocampus scale core.
And then I thought, I'm really hungry.
I guess Hecate can't control everything that goes through my brain.
Wincing a little as I moved too fast, I swung my feet over the side of my bed, untangling the sheets as I did so. I sat there for a moment and blinked the remaining sleep from my eyes. Harry was still asleep, his back to me as his chest rose slowly up and down. It was really hard to picture him killing a dark wizard, or even worse, being killed by one.
I remembered the prophecy Hecate had told me about, and promised Harry mentally that I wouldn't let him die. He's a good kid, he doesn't deserve that.
Padding on silent feet to the end of my bed, I opened the trunk that had appeared during the night, courtesy of a certain magic goddess. As I opened it, I froze. Was I seriously expected to wear a vampire cape to class? Really?
Sighing in exasperation, I cursed whoever came up with the stupid dress code.
I changed quickly, wanting to get down to breakfast early. No one in the dorm was awake yet, or maybe they were faking. You never know. Well, unless you get really close and listen to their breathing, but I really didn't want to have to explain that scenario to anyone this early. I opened the door to the stairwell and made my way through the common room to the portrait hole. I was halfway to the Great Hall when I realized that I shouldn't have any idea where I was going. But my brain had gone to autopilot somehow, and I was walking the hallways like I'd lived here my whole life. I guess Hecate's blessing has some perks.
I reached the Great Hall and found only a few other students were awake, so I sat down in the middle of the empty Gryffindor table.
Time Skip, one week
Hogwarts is fun. But I don't know why the name is so weird. No one seems to know who came up with it.
Hecate's memory wipe worked, and now everybody thinks I transferred here from Ilvermorny, which apparently is a magic school in America. When I get back, I have to find it. I had no idea it even existed, and wizards could make some great allies.
Hermione has laid off all the questions about my background, which I am grateful for. It's hard enough to be here without Annabeth, let alone lie to these people's faces. Ron still doesn't like me, for whatever reason.
Harry doesn't remember the conversation we had that night, which is kind of disappointing. I feel like we sort of bonded. I mean, what are the odds that both of us had a nightmare?
Neville still sits with me at meals, and I've gotten to know him pretty well. I also figured out the reason that he was crying in Defense Against The Dark Arts. Apparently his parents were driven crazy by the Cruciatus Curse, which I probably know how to cast now, thanks to Hecate. Not like I'll ever use it, though.
Today all the other schools are coming for the Triwizard Tournament, and everyone is really excited.
Before dinner, everyone gathered outside in the courtyard to welcome the visitors, who apparently are going to make a really dramatic entrance. Sure enough, after about ten minutes of uncomfortable waiting, a speck appeared in the sky. It grew larger and larger until it turned into a giant carriage pulled by giant pegasi. It made me a little homesick to see the flying horses, but I pushed the thought out of my mind.
Hagrid, the groundskeeper, guided the carriage down to the ground and was rewarded by almost getting smacked in the head by it. He ducked just in time though, getting relieved sighs out of Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
The giant coach landed gracefully, which was impressive for something so big. The door opened and a bunch of pretty girls in blue stepped out, followed by a really big lady in a giant coat. She and Dumbledore started talking, and she gestured to the flying horses on the carriage.
The newcomers hadn't even reached the courtyard yet when the surface of the lake started to froth, bubbling until the top of a ship's mast was visible. Even from far away, I could feel the ship entering the lake through some kind of underwater portal. The magical knowledge that I had been gifted with didn't offer any explanations.
The rest of the ship surfaced, and to be honest, I wasn't super impressed. The Queen Anne's Revenge was bigger, and this one had an autopilot setting. I could sense it. That's cheating.
A gangplank extended from the side of the ship until it reached the shore, and a bunch of boys in fur coats made their way across it. Their principal (I assume, although they call them headmasters here.) started talking to Dumbledore. As they walked towards the courtyard, we got a better look at all the students we would be hosting for the next couple months.
Next to me, Ron gasped.
"That's Viktor Krum!" he whisper-shouted at Harry and Hermione. I decided to jump into the conversation. "Who?" I already knew who, but maybe Ron would open up a little.
He gaped at me, but forgot to be surly in his haste to answer the question.
"Who's Viktor Krum? Only the greatest quidditch player the wizarding world has ever seen! Well, maybe not the greatest, but really, really close!"
Then Ron remembered he didn't like me and turned away, but it's progress.
He continued talking about Krum to Harry, who just nodded at everything and seemed to be lost in thought.
Time Skip
At dinner, Ron was extremely disappointed that Durmstrang chose to sit with the Slytherins, and equally disappointed that he didn't get to meet any of the girls from Beauxbatons.
""It's not fair," he grumbled while picking through his mashed potatoes.
"We know." Harry and Hermione said in unison, tired of the complaining.
I ate quietly, content to listen to their conversation.
After the feast, Dumbledore stood and made a toast to great friendships and stuff. Then he got to the interesting part.
"The champions for each school will be chosen by an ancient artifact, one that has withstood the test of time and seen many champions come and go."
He paused for dramatic effect, and I had to admire the guy's storytelling skills. He could be a descendant of Hermes.
"I present to you…. The Goblet of Fire!"
The box to his left began folding open, layer by layer, until a shimmering cup was revealed. The room filled with whispers of astonishment, but Dumbledore interrupted the growing noise.
"One champion," he said loudly, as to get everyone's attention. "will be chosen per school. If you choose to put your name into the goblet…"
He continued talking, but I didn't really listen. I already knew what the rules were, another perk of magical knowledge that just pops into your head. I guess Hecate's blessing really can be useful.
Like I said, filler chapter. I'm hoping to get to the first task in a few chapters, but I keep having to remind myself to be patient and actually have pacing within the story. Reviews!
FanficObsessed0238: Thank you!
Cat Nari: Thank you for the good luck! (We won, and we have another game tomorrow.) Actually, since Percy is technically a transfer student, he'll probably be a champion for Hogwarts. But I guess you'll have to keep reading...
SamairaKhan: Thank you! I had a lot of fun writing that part, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
PineconeFace1222: Thank you for the good luck! We won, but we have another game tomorrow against an undefeated team. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter!
Guest: Yeah, I didn't really think about that. Whoops. I guess they won't be as cool as the Argo II. :(
Leo is a god: Wow, thanks for you enthusiasm! I really enjoyed reading you reviews, they made my day!
Jinglebells852: Thank you! I am definitely planning a few surprises. *laughs maniacally* (And I totally get the school thing. I've had four essays this semester already.
Covid-20: Okay, I'll try. Thanks for the review!
WOW. Ten reviews in a day? Thank you guys! I've said it before, but I love reading them over and over, just for a self-esteem boost!
Well, that's all for today, wish me luck on volleyball tomorrow! (The team we're playing is undefeated, so... yeah.)
Don't forget to favorite, follow, and review!
Peace out,
LadyHW
