Game of Life

DISCLAIMER : I don't own anything except for this story line.

A/N: thanks for the "update! Comment" it actually disturbed my concentration. But, it would be a lot kinder, if you said "please". Everyone is busy trying to make a living, and planning to create a better future for their families, over here. And you should too. Be useful to your loved ones, for once.

Let's not waste our precious time.

Speaking of wasting time, here I am doing the same.

Well, since I passed my 60 day success habits run, finished the one thing book, writing/documenting 3 chapters of 114chapter book, and outlining my 5-10-someday goals, and taking daily actions. I am entitled to write as a reward for myself.

CHAPTER 4: 10 STEPS TO RESTART YOUR LIFE

Two shadows can be seen setting under the bridge that was under construction. One might assume that it's ghostly.

Unfortunately it's not.

The two shadows were just like any street rats, living under the bridge.

Nobody cares.

Why?

Everybody is busy dealing with their own lives to stop and care about lazy pokes, who have no dreams and will - to make a better life for themselves.

Or so, how they assumed.

And most of the times, assumptions are clearly a lack of wisdom, truthfulness, and an escape from the guilt of not helping, under the umbrella of blame and ignorance.

[Be grateful for what you have.]

And so the Kuchiki's found themselves homeless, and sheltering under a bridge due to the heavy rain.

Rukia was fiddling on her phone in the meantime.

Byakuya on the other hand was checking up the body he was in.

Aside from the wound he got when they run into an angry dog, who had chased them awhile ago, he realized that this body is as much powerless as it is useless.

This body has little to no muscle, it has low endurance and synchronization. Almost like an inhiberated animal.

And yet, he was a little bit grateful of it,due to the fact that, if he was not on this body, he would have not be able to save Rukia from being bit by the rabid dog.

[ Start with what you can change straight away.]

Rukia turned to look at Byakuya, as she noticed the calm look on his foreign face.

She badly wanted to check up on him, for she suspected that he was probably wounded by the dog who attacked her.

She had asked about it a while ago, but he refused her and shrugged off her concern, saying she better take care of her bruised knees.

At that moment when she had fallen on her feet due to sheer exhaustion, and inability to out run the rabid dog, because of her heavy weight, she had come face to face with fear once again, and not in the face of a powerful enemy, but just a dog.

A dog.

What happened to that oh so powerful vice-captain that she was?

While she was contemplating her inability and thinking a way to escape the dog, somebody jumped in front of her.

She had not seen it happen, but she knew that Byakuya was bitten by the dog, albeit on his leg that was covered with his dirty and shabby denim pants.

[It's time to be honest and admit what's wrong]

Rukia couldn't help but feel down at her own shortcomings.

All of her life, she had toughen herself to be able to survive and protect the ones she loved.

She hates to be a burden as much as she hated injustice.

And yet…

This was reinforced by the fact that she had been saved a couple of times by Kaien, Ichigo, and Byakuya.

Especially Byakuya.

Ever since he had save her from Gins' sword, he had been saving her over and over again.

And now.

[You become what your rhetoric]

I am… I am…

Rukia does not want to admit the word. It tore at her chest, and got stack on her throat.

I am not a BURDEN!

I will never be useless.

I will not be weak!

I AM. NOT. A. BURDEN‼!

Her rhetoric would have summoned her Bankai, due to its strength, but because she was inside a powerless human body, all her body could do is tense for a moment, and sculpted a little bit of muscle on her blob of fats.

Byakuya was caught off guard when Rukia suddenly stood up. He watched her intently as she bowed her head to him and said.

"Arigato Nii-sama, this will never happen again"

He was speechless, and so he just let her be.

Silence fell on them, before Rukia suddenly run away.

Byakuya was stunned at her spontaneous behavior, soon he understood. And so let her be.

Let her run about the river bank while the rain is pouring down on her.

Meantime he went down to the flowing river to clean up his wound. And maybe clean himself as well, despite how revolting the idea of a public bath is.

Thinking about the 3 days event that had passed by like a wind, ever since they arrived at this place.

Byakuya jumped on the river, his revulsion magnified as he realized how dirty the water is.

[Get rid of toxic people.]

As Rukia run and run, under the heavy rain. Her childhood memories played on her mind.

As a baby with little riatsu, she needed food. So she cried and cried.

The baby's cries seemed to fell on deaf ears as people just passed her by.

It was said that a cloacked person took her, and bring her to an orphanage of some sort. By that time, the baby Rukia was silent and nourished.

At the "orphanage", Rukia lived for 20 years, more like survived. She learns to fight for herself and for others.

She and the others were being treated like a caged animal. And constantly being reminded about their benefactors generosity and making them do things. Things like stealing and other things.

The others might had accepted the fact of facing slavery, but she will not stand to be used and abused, despite all the benefits of a shelter.

And on her 7 years old human appearance, she ventured outside of the orphanage, and never returned since.

To get rid of the people who made her feel like a burden. And suffocated.

Ironic, how in 80 years or so, she returned to that same situation once more.

[Be brave enough to take the first step.]

At that thought, Rukia stopped running.

She had let her mind to wonder wildly, and now her deep insecurities were brought on to light.

Back then when she was being adopted, she had never felt small and insignificant. As though, she does not have a voice of her own.

As a orphaned street rat, all she wanted was a family. And she had thought that she had found it with Renji and the others.

A family that will love her, and stay with her no matter what. A family that will value her. A family that will not abandon her.

A family that would not treat her like a burden.

And when Renji, advice her to agree with this strange people's adoption offer, her whole world collapsed.

She had thought that Renji is different.

That he will never give her up.

That he too, treated her as a family as much as he treated him as her true family.

And so she took the first step away from him. Away from her broken world of make belief.

[Seek advice from those who have walked the journey before you]

At that disturbing thought. Rukia finally took notice of her surrounding.

She was now standing in front of a pile of garbage.

Why?

Well, as Byakuya was swimming in the 'distateful' water amidst the rain, forgetting for once that he actually isn't the best of swimmer. He was horribly saved by the garbage.

And so, he vowed to clear out the trashes in the vicinity, if he would have to actually live under the bridge.

Rukia didn't know what's cuter, the fact that her Nii-sama is picking the trashes or that he wasn't aware of her being there, seeing him talk to himself.

"Rukia" Byakuya called out to the blonde chubby girl.

Rukia immediately stopped herself from chuckling a little.

"if you are just going to stand there, please pick the trash behind you"

Rukia's eyebrows raised a little.

Trash?

As far as she was aware, there are no garbage behind her.

"you can't stop what's done, but you can always return and pick them up. Then put them in their place, and move on" Byakuya said as though he was talking about the weather.

Rukia blinked and blink again.

"As a Kuchiki, we must master our emotions. For we are the leader of our people, and so we cannot afford to be weak"

[Be clear about what you want.]

"Focus on what's important to you, and do your best to the best of your abilities" Byakuya added mysteriously.

"there are always things that is beyond ones reach, but the decision is up to you to accept it, or decline it."

[Be patient with yourself.]

"Patience is Kuchiki clans core value" Byakuya said after a while.

Rukia was buffled at Byakuya's unsolicited advice, which was quite frankly out of the blue.

And his advices does not make sense at the moment.

It is now very clear to Rukia, Byakuya had definite lack of communication skills.

And yet, she was grateful.

It's not that she does not have patience. The Kuchiki clan had thoroughly nailed that on her.

It's just, her approaching period is making her moody and emotional.

[Just because you're broke doesn't mean you can't restart your life]

To be honest, Byakuya was beating himself inside for talking too much.

He had been accustomed to talking very little due to his upbringing, but since the war ended and Rukia and himself comes to equal terms, he had been slipping out of his self-image, more and more.

It is uncomfortable. But, a necessary change on their dynamics.

Byakuya closed his eyes, and contemplated. Should I be open to her?

He does not know the answer to that, but for now, he would try to be himself.

It is incredible how free he felt. As someone occupying another's form and living in a different world.

He finally get to experience how to live a life far from what he have been living.

A new start.

Without bounds of the past.

This, he had been contemplating ever since they wounded up in this world.

A sense of freedom.

Except for Rukia, there is nothing to remind him of how he should be.

Instead, now, he can be anybody he want to be.

Broke or not.
