CHAPTER SEVEN
Fat Amy pushes open the heavy front door of the mansion for the second time this week. She looks down at the gold envelope she holds tightly in her left hand as she walks past the threshold of the mansion.
"There's a whore in this house, there's a whore in this house" the blond Australian starts singing loudly for the rest of the woman to hear her as she bobs her head along to the rhythm. "There's a whore in this house…"
The women, all gathered in the kitchen, stop eating breakfast, and look at her with confused expressions.
"What? Cause I just entered the house… You pitches should meet all my boyfriends one day. I'd happily introduce them all to you because I know none of you vagetarians would steal them off my sexy, fat ass"
"Actually Fat Amy, I'm Bi…" Emily corrects her.
"Well then, not you, Legacy" Amy tenses at Emily like she's going to hit her causing the younger woman to cower away. "Just kidding!" The blond slaps the tall girl on her back good-heartedly.
"My men like a woman of a certain criteria that you don't meet Legacy" the brunette looks at her questionably. "Let's just say they like a woman who offers a bit more meat to their bone" Amy wiggles her eyebrows inappropriately.
"Ew" Emily shudders uncomfortably while the rest of the women laugh at the two.
"Enough about my boyfriends though, I'm here about your girlfriend" the Australian points to Chloe. "And yours" she points to Stacie sitting next to the redhead. "And yours" points at Aubrey. "And yours" Jessica. "And…"
"We get it, Amy! You're here about Beca" The redhead laughs.
"Right! Now listen, Shawshank has given me another date card" the Australian waves the gold envelope in the air enthusiastically. "Legacy, wanna read it out?" She hands the card over to the tall brunette with a smile. "Fat Amy out! See you twig bitches on the flip" the blond nods her head at the other women and walks out of the room.
"I never know what to expect with her!" Emily laughs uncomfortably as she opens the envelope feeling all eyes on her as she looks down.
You'd think by now I'd have this rhyming thing down,
But every time I feel like a damn clown,
Please don't judge me, this is all on Amy,
And at the end of the day she's the one that pays me,
Fuck. Not that I'm getting paid for this cause I'm not. I said I wanted love not money. It rhymed and she used to help me score gigs back in the day so…
"Aw, she is the cutest when she's flustered" the brunette giggles.
Anyways, we met awhile ago,
But you'd never know,
Because we would never talk,
So Kommissar come and join me for a walk?
All eyes glance between the tall, blond newcomer and a certain redhead at the other end of the room.
"Well, I guess I should go get ready then," Kommissar says as she stands and departs from the room.
Most of the other women are finished with their breakfast so they leave too; leaving Chloe, Stacie, and Aubrey still sitting at the dining table.
"How do you feel about that Chlo?" The brunette looks at the redhead sympathetically.
"What do you mean?" the redhead says defensively.
"It's just…"
"What Stacie?" Chloe almost snaps.
"Chloe, you're the only one who hasn't had a single date yet" Aubrey places her hand on Stacie's thigh as she interjects. "And then Kommissar's been here all of five minutes and she's already got a date"
Chloe shifts uncomfortably in her chair, picking at the gold placemat in front of her. "I know…I have faith in Beca, we've talked a lot about our feelings for each other and I feel comfortable with where we're at… Well, I did feel comfortable with where our relationship was heading until her old crush; who by the way just so happened to make her realize she was gay, came walking through the door. I mean, couldn't she at least be ugly?"
"Chlo, sweetie. Don't let her second guess your relationship with Beca. I'm sure she's secure with how she feels about you so she doesn't need more time with you to know that" Stacie offers reassuringly.
"But…" Chloe sighs and stops picking at the placemat to look at the woman to the right of her. "It's just…" she brings her hand to her face and pinches the bridge of her nose. "She told me that I'm the one she wants at the end of all this. So why doesn't she want to spend more than 5 minutes alone with me?"
"Why don't you ask Beca all of this?" Aubrey speaks softly causing the redhead to drop her hand away from her face and look at the women again. She notices the brunette's hand is still resting on the blond's thigh and raises her eyebrow at them.
"What's happening here?" Chloe smirks.
"So little fairy, where are we walking to?" Kommissar asks as they walk along a trail through the woods.
"It's not much longer, I promise. I'm not exactly one for exercise so it's definitely a short track but it's worth the view at the end so I was willing to make an exception" the singer smiles at the blond as they continue to walk exchanging small talk.
"See, I told you it wouldn't take long. And totally worth it hey?" The brunette gestures to the view of treetops and a waterfall in the distance as the sky has a mixture of orange and pink to it.
"You're not wrong, Feisty Mouse"
Beca laughs and sits down on the blanket already set up and waiting for them. "You know you can call me Beca, right?"
"I do, but where's the fun in that?" The blond winks as she sits down next to the brunette, their legs slightly touching each other.
"Well, it hasn't been fun these past years not knowing your name all this time"
"I did hear that it annoyed you… I kinda liked that"
Beca chuckles as she grabs the bottle of wine from the picnic basket resting on top of the blanket they're sitting on and pops open the cork.
"Did you know it was about you?" The shorter woman asks as she pours them both a drink.
"When I first heard the song I didn't realize it was you singing it" the older woman takes the wine offered. "But I was thinking 'god this song is relatable'"
"Relatable? How so?" the brunette smiles.
"You see, I had this crush on a girl that used to work in the same shopping center as I did. She was dark and mysterious and quite attractive…"
The singer blushes and starts to pick at the picnic blanket.
"You had a crush on me too?"
"Of course Tiny Mouse, how could I not?" Kommissar smirks.
"It's just… you barely used to look at me"
"Well you see I never used to see you cause you're so tiny… it's not like I could walk around with my head down all day, my neck would hurt too much" the blond chuckles.
"Dude, come on. Be serious with me for five seconds, please?" Beca looks up, her dark blue eyes pleading.
"Fine… I used to look when you weren't. Which wasn't very often might I add" the taller woman smirks. "I could feel you constantly watching me and I figured if I looked back you'd be less intrigued… I mean, you have the whole dark and mysterious vibe going for you. It works, doesn't it? People want to get to know you more when they think you're closed off"
"I think I get what you mean. You definitely kept me wanting more… probably because you gave me nothing in the first place" both women laugh.
"I'm here now, Fiesty Mouse" Kommissar whispers as she starts to lean in.
Beca's heart is racing so much she's starting to question if the blond can hear it. She's been wanting this moment for years. To have unanswered questions that have been on her lips finally answered after all these years. The mystery of the woman from the shop down from hers is finally solved. Countless daydreams finally coming true. She sees the older woman's pink lips part slowly as she moves in closer. Her heart starts beating faster and faster. But why does this feel so wrong?
Chloe. She's not Chloe.
"I can't…" Beca pulls away just before Kommissar closes the last inch. "I'm sorry Kommissar"
The taller woman looks shocked. Her blue eyes were almost hidden under her furrowed eyebrows.
"I'm confused, Beca?" Kommissar's voice matches her statement.
"I am too… If younger Beca knew I was doing this she'd kick my ass. But…"
"The mystery isn't as good as the reality" The blond states sadly as she looks down at her hands which are placed in her lap.
"No! That's not it. I swear to God, it's not that" the brunette reaches out and takes the blond's hands in her own. "It's just, you're too late… I think my heart already belongs to someone else"
"Ahh, the redhead"
The fact that it's not a question answers everything Beca needed to know. It's obvious. It's Chloe.
Champaign bubbles in the tall glasses placed on the silver trays of the waiters walking past. Occasionally taken by each of the girls. Beca, however, has stayed drinking water this evening. She is trying to keep a clear mind. Next week is home visits and even though she knows she wants Chloe, she's terrified of meeting her daughter. The singer has been trying to get Chloe alone all night so she can talk to her. Really, she just wants Chloe to reassure her like she always does when Beca mentions her fears of the redhead's daughter not liking her. But tonight Chloe's been avoiding her. Every time the brunette walks into the same room as the redhead, Chloe makes herself look busy or comes up with an excuse to leave abruptly. Beca knows there's something up and she's determined to figure out why so she marches over to the redhead and steps in her way when Chloe tries to walk off.
"Chloe…"
"Alright Twig Bitches!" Amy's timing is as impeccable as ever. "Time for the rose ceremony. So bring your skinny asses and your drinks to the foyer... Some of you may want to down your drinks to help you get through the ceremony cause les be honest, you're all not making it through to next week"
"Amy!" Beca chastises.
"What? I'm just keeping it real. They all know that they can't all get a rose tonight" the Australian offers with a shrug.
"Oh my God, please stop" the brunette reddens as a redhead shifts uncomfortably next to her before joining the other girls who are already lining up.
Stacie returns to where she had been standing, a bright red rose pinned to her blue, sequin dress that hugs her beautifully.
Beca picks up the next rose and looks towards the girls confidently.
"Chloe" the brunette smiles as the redhead steps forward tentatively. Chloe walks towards Beca, her eyes locked on the marble floor below her feet. Once she reaches the singer she looks up, cerulean blue eyes meeting stormy dark blue ones.
"Chloe, will you accept this rose?"
The redhead sighs and looks back at the ground. Beca reaches out and grabs ahold of her left hand.
"Chloe?" The singer's voice breaks.
"I'm sorry Bec, but I don't think I can" ocean blue eyes meet Beca's one more time. Tears spilling down the side of her porcelain cheeks. "I'm sorry". Chloe pulls her hand out of the brunette's and walks quickly out the mansion's door.
"Aca-awkward" Fat Amy breaks the silence. Beca's head snaps straight to hers and sends her a death stare but it isn't long before her head returns towards the door where Chloe left. A second passes and then she runs.
