Chapter 7: Who Are You?
Age: 755
The two had just finished another session of training and were sitting down their backs propped up against one another. Sweat was dripping down Chi-Chi and she was panting hard, "How *pant* come you *pant* never get sweaty *pant* like me?" She griped.
Trunks replied, "Well I always have more excess energy than you that I'm not using that allows me to retain my stamina much longer," he explained.
"That is *pant* just not fair" Chi-Chi complained.
Trunks just chuckled at the Ox Princess's response. Trunks stood up and began to stretch. "So after we're done with this break I'm planning on finally teaching you how to fly, it'd be pretty helpful in the tournament,"
She looked up at and him faintly replying, "Yeah," with a slight nod.
Trunks had a small raise of brow, "... Is everything okay Chi-Chi?" he asked.
"Well," 'Okay Chi-Chi this is your chance to find out what his deal is, okay this is the plan and I'm going with it. You rehearsed this in front of the mirror like at least ten times last week. Okay let's go. You can do this'
"Trunks...," she said staring him directly in the face, "I want to fight in the next Tenkaichi Budokai so that I can marry someone,"
Trunks's brow moved inward and he tilted his head slightly as he listened to the young woman, "O-Okay, and?" 'Okay so this must be the tournament that Gohan told me about, good I'm not messy with the timeline too much, I just have to make sure she's not stronger than Gohan,'
"Well, the person I want to marry is a boy named Son Goku," she continued emphasizing each word.
"Um, alright that's good for him I am very happy for you Chi-Chi," he said.
"You see, when the two of us were younger he came over to our castle, well he never came inside but that's not the point I mean no one really could get inside since the entire thing was on fire. Although, that's not the point. He, well, uh, touched me. NOT ON PURPOSE, well kind of more like he didn't understand," She rambled.
'Oh my kami, please do not tell me she's going to explain how they first had sex.'
"But he touched my womanly parts, you see," she continued to say.
'Oh I think she is, I really don't want to know how my only friend's parents had sex please kami spare me!' Trunks thought in horror.
"The main thing that happened because of that I asked him if when we older would we marry and he agreed and I asked if it was a promise and he agreed again, so I want to fight in the tournament to get him to fulfill that promise as when the tournament we will both be 18," she babbled.
Trunks blinked his eyes a few times and took a deep gulp. He just looked at Chi-Chi in front of him trying to stay silent to see if she would say anything else. Trunks's head was again a bit tilted as he began to say, "Well, uh Chi-Chi that was a... interesting story that I certainly not... expecting," he stammered out.
"Well I told you for one reason Trunks," she admitted to the saiyan.
Trunks paused for a moment trying to take the information he was given in, "Oh? What would that reason be, exactly?"
"Trunks, you don't make any sense," she bluntly stated.
"... what do you mean by that?" Trunks said with apprehension.
"You don't make sense," she re-emphasized.
"Okay, but what do you...mean by that?" he asked.
Sweat began to form on Trunks's brow. His heart started beating faster and faster. He could feel like. He took a deep gulp and balled up his fist. 'Crap! She's onto me. What do I do? What do I do?'
"Trunks, I found you in a cave" Chi-chi asserted.
"Yeah..." Trunks said.
"It would be one thing if there could be some reasonable explanation for why you would be in a cave, but I can't possibly figure one reason why you would be here. You say you're from West City and that seems reasonable enough, but then you gawk at a small crowd like you've never seen that many people in your life. You don't know who King Piccolo is, when everyone in the WORLD knows who he is. You tell me you were taught by Son Gohan, but I told dad that and he said you told him that you were self-taught. There's no reason to lie about that, and dad told me himself that your style of fighting doesn't match Gohan's at all. On top of ALL of that, you want unknown parts for unknown reasons. I played along with the bargain at first because I figured by now you would've told me, but I suppose not," she went on.
Trunks froze in place. He didn't make any sudden movements. Although, he tried to speak words would not come out only the garbled sounds he muttered trying to think a way to answer without revealing his situation with time travel. "Tell me Trunks, what's up? Why are you lying to us, and who are you!" Chi-Chi exclaimed.
"Well, um, that's not really fair Chi-Chi I don't think-" he stuttered out before being cut off.
"Yes it is fair! I've told you EXACTLY who I was and even let you into my home giving you a room of your own!" she shouted.
"Well... I, appreciate that a lot Chi-Chi but-" he slowly said.
"There are no buts Trunks you need to explain to me exactly who you are, where you are from, and what do you want," she insisted.
"Where did this, uh come from all of a sudden Chi-Chi," Trunks said try to feign a joking tone to lighten the mood.
"Trunks you have been training me for four months, you have taught me almost every single thing that I know about fighting and martial arts. I believe that I have a right to know who exactly is teaching me," She angrily said.
"Um, well, uhh-" Trunks said.
"Trunks. Answer me. Now!" she demanded." I didn't know it was such an-" he replied before stopping.
"Stop. Dodging. The. Question." she aid.
"Well-" Trunks said.
"ANSWER ME!" she bowled.
Trunks stood there. 'What can I do? Is there any other way? I mean I could probably make up something, but would that be right?' The young hybrid thought to himself.
He then began to look on at Chi-Chi. The expression on her face was furious. Her face had tenses up, as Trunks looked down he could see both of her fists were balled up, and she had grit her teeth. Trunks let out an audible sigh. 'She has a point, she has a right to know who's been teaching her. Honestly, its my fault for staying so long oh well better just hope the future moves along as it should' He thought.
"Chi-Chi, I'm from the future," Trunks said, all the previous confused or jokey expressions on his face vanished.
"...what," Chi-Chi replied.
The Ox Princess just stood there. She was taken aback. 'THE FUTURE!?" She yelled internally.
Although, she then began to ponder the implications of this, 'That... actually makes some sense. It would make sense that someone from the far enough future wouldn't know who King Piccolo is, but wait-'
"If you're from the future how did you get here!?" she said.
"... A time machine," he said.
Chi-Chi's brow did a bit of a tinge, "Well I figured that, but I mean I have no indication what that looks like or even if you have one, so why should I believe you?" she replied.
"*sigh* I'm really going all in on this, okay," Trunks muttered under his breath.
The young saiyan then dug into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small little gray box. He clicked the button on the top reveling an assortment of various hoi poi capsules. He grabbed one out of the case, closed the case back, and put back into his jacket. "You may want to stand back," he instructed.
Chi-Chi stepped back about a foot as Trunks clicked the top of the capsule and threw it in front of her. A small boom went off and a cloud of yellow smoke appeared from the capsule. As the smoke cleared the outline of a machine could be made out.
"*cough* *cough* What the-" Chi-Chi began to say as the smoke cleared.
When she finally saw it her eyes widened. It was tall yellow and black machine with a glass top. There were protruding thin fins going toward the ground. She could also see the word hope written on one of the sides in some sort of black ink. Trunks walked up toward the machine and placed his hand on where the word was as he looked to Chi-Chi and said, "This is my time machine I am from the year 785,"
Looking at the astonishing machine Chi-Chi began to speak, "Oh my kami he actually has a time machine,"
Chi-Chi was awe-struck by the machine. She couldn't bring herself to move. It was all too unreal and bizarre even for someone who lived in a fiery castle. "I am aware it is a bit much to take in you can take your time saying anything," Trunks reassured upon seeing her reaction.
Chi-Chi took a deep breath and closed her eyes before trying to continue the conversation, "So, um what brings you to thirty years in the past?"
"Well I don't really want to mess with the timeline that much," Trunks explained.
"Trunks you've been in the past for at least a year, I would consider the past thoroughly messed with by now," Chi-Chi retorted.
"*sigh* Yeah, I suppose you have a point," he said.
"Well to tell you everything," Trunks took a deep breath, "I come from a post-apocalyptic future where all of earth's warriors have been killed, or in the case of Son Goku died of a heart attack and I came back in time to give Goku heart medicine and to tell him and his friends to train so they can be ready for the androids that await them in the future,"
"-oh," Chi-Chi quietly said.
"Yeah, its a good bit to cope with trust me I know," he said.
"Wait, is that why you freaked out when you found out who I was?" she asked.
"Yeah, well, you're kind of my mentor/best friend's mom," Trunks answered.
"-oh," she said.
Chi-Chi sat down where she was and just stared out into nothingness. Trunks walked up toward the young woman and sat in front of her. She didn't say a word for a moment. Her expression was one of dread, her eyes looked deep out into the distance. "I see you're still trying to process it all, take your time," he said trying to relieve her worries.
She took another deep breath and blinked, seemingly coming back to reality. She turned to Trunks in front of her. She would begin to move her mouth, but said nothing. Thoughts escaped her at the moment until finally pushing through the daunting feeling. "Trunks, um" she muttered.
Trunks could see the distraught on her face he began to don a bit of a frown himself. "What is it Chi-Chi?" He asked trying to be as soft spoken as he could to make her nervousness as small a factor as possible.
"What do you know about me, future me I mean, your friend's mom?" she asked.
Trunks stayed silent for a moment. For a few seconds he just looked at her. Her eyes stared directly at his. Her eyes seemed to be shaking in a way there was a suspense, a fear, or an anxiety could be found in them at least that's what Trunks found. "Trunks.. please, just tell me," she calmly asked of the young saiyan.
"Alright, I'll tell you, from what Gohan told me, oh Gohan is the name of your son that's why I told you that Son Gohan trained me, but he didn't talk a lot about his family it was a touchy subject for him. He, well, he seemed to have problems with his mother that he couldn't exactly blame her for. Gohan for awhile, until after he trained me was the only person on the planet who was even remotely strong enough to defend against the androids. That's what Gohan tried to do, he was always out there fighting them, he always tried to save as many people as he could. Its part of what I admired about him, but his mother was not supportive of it. You did marry Goku in my timeline, and he was already dead. That Chi-Chi didn't want her only son risking his life fighting androids who killed fighters with ten times the fighting experience he did. He did it anyway, and in the end Chi-Chi's worries were affirmed. Gohan died trying to save people. I am not completely sure what happened to Chi-Chi I got most of my information about her from Gohan or my mother, a friend of Goku's, who would call her every once in awhile. After she told him he died, my mother could never get in contact with her again," he informed her.
Chi-Chi just sat there, her fingers seemed to twitch a bit. 'She'll die alone' Chi-Chi thought to herself. The expression on her face grew grim, any semblance of a smile vanished from her face. "If its hard to-" Trunks began to say before he was cut off by the princess.
"Trunks. I know you mean well, but I just, I just need a bit okay? I know it is not your fault I quite literally asked for this, but I need time. I could not tell you how long, but I do know I need time," she responded.
Chi-Chi stood up and walked away, leaving Trunks and his time machine. Trunks just idly sat that as he saw the young girl wistfully walk away, her arms by her sides and her head drooping. 'This was a mistake' Trunks lamented.
