Hello, readers! I haven't been feeling well lately and my writing style has been off. But, as promised, I intend to complete this story. I apologize if the writing style seems weird.
Chapter 9: Liberation
The war against the Adrestrian Empire was over. Those Who Slither in the Dark had been defeated, as well. Now, the Golden Deer stand on the Caladonian Plateau. With Claude and Byleth on the front lines, their army came out victorious. The fell king, Nemesis, lie before on the ground. Their army rejoiced in their victory, hugging, shouting, and cheering. Raising their weapons in the air, they triumphantly marched back to Garreg Mach to properly celebrate their victory. When they arrived at the monastery, the Golden Deer sat at a table and filled their tankards with ale. On the way in, Claude noticed the professor walk off and head towards the Goddess' tower. He thought he should give teach some long overdue alone time.
Standing up and hoisting a glass in the air, Claude gave a big speech. Wrapping up his speech, he held his drink higher and said, "To Fodlan's New Dawn!" Everyone returned the gesture and went back to celebrating. Hilda and Marianne sat at a table talking about fashion and other girl things. Ignatz supervised Leonie and Raphael as they attempted to out-drink each other. Claude then noticed that Lysithea and Damon were nowhere in sight. 'I should probably leave those two love birds alone,' He thought to himself.
At some point, Lysithea and Damon snuck off to her room. Lysithea had a cake she bought before the battle against Nemesis. The two sat in an awkward silence, eating the cake. "Wouldn't rather be celebrating with everyone instead of just me?" Lysithea asked, breaking the silence. "It's a bit too much noise for my liking." Damon responded. Lysithea noticed he was speaking more formally than normal and that he had a hand in his pocket the entire time. "You know, now that the war is over, you're free to do what you want." He said. Lysithea put down her fork, "I guess so…" Apparently, she didn't put much thought into what she would do after the war. She was planning on renouncing house Ordelia, but then what? "Lysithea," Damon said, snapping her from her thoughts, "will you spend the rest of your life with me?" Damon pulled a ring out of his pocket.
Lysithea was speechless. "I…" she started. "It's ok to say no if you really don't want to," Damon told her, smiling grimly. Lysithea was mad at him for cutting her off. "Would you let me finish!" She yelled at him. "I'm trying to say yes!" The two went silent for a moment. Realizing that she just said yes, she hid her face in embarrassment. "You better be the best husband ever." She said quietly, but loud enough for him to hear. Damon smiled his usual big grin, "You bet!"
Meanwhile, Claude and Hilda were watching through the window. After Lysithea said yes, the two left the scene. "I told you he could do it." Claude said. Hilda rolled her eyes, "He didn't use any of the lousy advice you gave him." Claude felt insulted. "My advice isn't lousy." He said. Hilda smiled at him, "Oh really? Then why don't I have a ring on my finger yet?" She said teasing him. Claude sighed, "I gotta hand it to them though, I never thought it would play out like that." He said.
