Chapter 9: Goodbyes

"Ow! Ow! Ow! I give. You win! Now let go!"

"Do you promise to never pull stupid stunt like that again?"

"Yes! Yes! I promise! Now let me go!"

Zoey let go of Andy's arm and stood up, "Want me to pop your arm back into place? "She smirked as the rest of the Rangers started to laugh.

"Go ahead." Andy turned toward her and braced himself as Hunter grabbed on his left shoulder. "Hold still, little scorpion." Zoey smiled before grabbed Andy's right arm and popped it back in place, making him yelp in pain.

"Don't be such a baby. How many times did we have to do that while we were fighting Lothor and his goons?"

"Too many to count." Jenna called, laughing against the wall, "Not to mention all the cuts, burns and concussions."

The room chuckled, remember their own fights.

They had gathered at the Youth Center after the parade, to relax and enjoy each others company before everyone left for their own town. The teens had decided to have a tournament, Ninja style, while they waited for the Space Rangers to arrive.

"Let's take a break before the final match." Shane called, "I'm starving."

"Agreed." The teens walked over to join the older Rangers, who had started back up an argument they were having.

"You're not counting right." Zack pointed at Max, who looked like he was writing on a notepad, "Look, start with the first team. We had Dino Zords, not Animal Zords."

"That is until Lord Zedd showed up and ruined our old ones." Kim grumbled, "I really missed my pterodactyl." She said, looking put out, as her husband patted her shoulder.

"Right. When we got those, however," Zack continued, "the Lion, the Griffin, the Unicorn, the Fire Bird and the Red Dragon."

"Which, in case you're a total mutton head and didn't know, is what we name our dojo." Jason said, handing Eden a cookie, "Just one. You can have another after lunch."

"The Lion was the only non-mythological creature," Billy nodded, pointed to Max's paper, "but I believe it was designed after the Nemean Lion, so I'm not sure if it counts."

"Oh, it totally counts." Zack pointed, "You are not taking that away from me."

Laughing, Adam fist bumped him, "You've got that man."

"Moving on." Tommy shook his head, "The next one was mine. The White Tiger."

"Then we got our Ninja Zords." Aisha said, sitting in between Kim and Rocky, "The Frog, the Bear, the Wolf, the Crane, the Ape and the Falcon."

"Yes and, the Aquitian's Battle Borgs were similar to our Shogun Zords, except they controlled them telepathically." Billy said, smiling, "They received theirs from Ninjor like we did. They just didn't have a Pink Ranger."

"But I think Delphine's Battle Borg was a Crane." Rocky scratched his head, "Or did I notice that wrong?"

"No, you're right. I worked on them when I lived there."

"The Zeo Zords were different." Kat said, looking at Tanya, "I never could figure out what ours actually were. The others were the Sphinx, the Taurus, the Phoenix and a Pyramid. Ours," She shook her head, "no idea."

"Yeah, I didn't design those two. Alpha did." Billy shook his head, "Don't ask what they're based on. You'll just get confused. Just know, they're not animals."

"Okay," Adam said, after a pause, "moving on. Our Turbo Zords, as you can probably guess, were based on cars. So they don't count."

"Neither can ours." Andros said as the Space team walked in, "Zordon and Alpha designed them based on space shuttle and rockets." They got them some sandwiches and drinks before they sat down on spare chairs, looking exhausted.

"You guys okay?" Zoey asked, sympathetic, "You look a little worn."

"We were chased after the autograph session." Carlos said, "It took us a while to shake them." He leaned forward as Carmen started to rub his shoulder.

"Why didn't you just have D.E.C.A. teleport out?" Jenna asked, curious.

"We try our hardest not to do that in large public areas."

"Okay. Tired Space aside, let's move on. The Galaxy Rangers." Trini spoke up, playing with Aly, "Does anyone know what all of their Zords were?"

"Yeah." Zoey said, eating a smoothie bowl, "The first five Galactabeasts were the Lion, Condor, Gorilla, Wolf, and the Wildcat. The three lost Galactabeasts that were found and rebuilt by Deviot. That would be the Rhino, Phoenix and Shark."

"And the Magna Defender used the Tauro Zord." Zoey said, shrugging.

"That makes, what, two lions and two wolves?" Zack asked, trying to see the notes, "That's two phoenixes and two bulls, of sorts."

"But who's counting?" Zoey smile fell as four people walked into the Youth Center, "Oh, great. Try to explain this one."

Everyone turned around to see who she was looking. Raina's eyes got wide as she tried to take off, but Dustin held onto her. Jenna just frown and crossed her arms. "Perfect."

"Behave." Jason warned, shooting a glare at the two girls as he got up to greet his cousins, "Hey you two." He walked over to hug them, trying to come up with a plausible explanation, "What are you doing here? I thought you were leaving after the parade?"

"We volunteered to help clean up the fair grounds as they were breaking everything down." Vida said, looking at the group assembled in the room, "Hey, cuz, since when are you friends with Power Rangers?"

"Seeing as most of the Space Rangers went to Angel Grove, we knew them from school. They usually come here after the parade to relax before heading back to KO-35." He said, happy with the explanation. "Plus, if you'll remember, their team sponsors our dojo."

"I had actually forgotten about that." Maddy scratched her head, chagrined.

"And the rest?" Xander pointed to the Lightspeed Rangers and the two Silver Guardians, "I mean, they didn't go to Angel Grove, did they?"

"You're right, they didn't." Andros stood up and walked over, "But they're friends of ours and they come here to hang out with us before we leave. We consider it a safe haven for us to get away from the crowds of fans." He clapped Jason on the shoulder, "The Guardians help out with security for the events all week, so they use this place as a touch stone.

"And we do town halls with the schools, the police and fire stations, and pay visits to the hospitals." Carter called out, "Jason and his friends treat us like normal people when we're here, so it makes it easier for us to have free time without the reporters hounding us."

"Weird, but okay." Vida shrugged, "Anyways, we actually came to talk to Zoey and Jenna."

"Wait, what?" Zoey's head popped up as everyone turned to stare at the two girls.

"Vida and I would like to speak with you, if that's okay." Maddy said, a little shy.

"Um, sure." Zoey got up and pulled Jenna off Hunter's lap, dragging her across the room, "Let's go outside."

"Sure."

"Wait," Xander reached out and grabbed Vida by the arm, "you can't leave us here." He looked around, panicked, "They're martial artists who hate me here."

"Don't be such a baby, Xander." Vida rolled her eyes, "Sit at the bar and be quiet. It's your mouth that gets you in trouble more than anything else." Chip grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the bar, trying to ignore the smirks the teens were throwing at him.

1-2-3-4-5

"Okay. What's going on?" Jenna crossed her arms as she sat on a bench, "You two never want to talk to us unless you're trying to get us in trouble."

Taking a deep breath, Vida decided to started, "We're sorry."

Zoey blinked, not sure she hear correctly, "What?"

"I know we're not your favorite people and that's on us." Maddy nodded, "But we want to change that. We don't want to constantly be at odds with each other anymore."

Jenna sighed, "Can I asked a question?" They nodded, "Why? Why were you always causing problems for us? We used to get along really well, and it all changed. What happened?"

"Honestly, Zoey's what changed."

"Me?" She asked, incredulous, "What did I do?"

"We got jealous, alright?" Vida threw her hands up, "When you came along, it's like we ceased to exist. We had sleepovers and play dates on a regular basis, and when you moved here, all of that went away."

"We felt bad, like we had done something wrong." Maddy shrugged, "Then it felt like you had stolen our friend, our cousin."

"We noticed how much you two had in common, and it made us jealous." Vida grumbled.

"It was the same with Jason. He didn't really want to hang with a couple of little girls, anymore. He still had his friends, but then he Tommy came into the picture and it was like he had a new brother." Maddy point in, trying to make them understand, "It was irrational on our parts, because we had Chip and Xander, but that's how we felt."

"Then, we were just a couple of jealous little girls having a tantrum." Vida blew out a breath, "But, as we got older, the tantrum got worse and we didn't care. At all."

"We became brats and didn't care to take responsibility for our actions. So, we wanted to say sorry, and that we're going to try to do better."

That sat in silence for a moment before Zoey held up a hand, "Why now? What's changed?"

"We've always talked about it, how we're not going to do or say anything to cause problems, but it's never really worked." Vida got up and paced for a moment, "We were at the competitions this week with our mom and Aunt Jo. We watched you together with your friends and we got to thinking." She turned to face them, "We never had that with Jenna and Jason. It was just a family thing, with us. With you two, it was like breathing."

"It was like, you two were meant to be friends." Maddy spoke quietly, "It was like reality came crashing down on us. The more we thought about it the more we realized how wrong we were to treat you the way we did. So, we came to the decision to approach you and apologize. To try and be better."

"To be better." Vida held up a hand in caution, "I can't promise no more quips, barbs or sarcastic comebacks. It's ingrained in my DNA. Sorry."

"No problem." Zoey smirked, "I'm a trained and skilled professional in pointing out the obvious and I speak fluent sarcasm. It's the ability to insult people without them realizing it. I'm a master at it." She stood up, smiling, "I can't promise not to be sarcastic either, but I can promise to try not to be so harsh anymore."

"Good enough for us." Maddy said as they hugged in happiness, "Now, maybe we can go get the boys before your friends kill our friends."

1-2-3-4-5

The room got quiet when the girls came back in, waiting to see what would happen. "You didn't kill each other." Jason grinned, "I'm pleasantly surprised."

"We've come to an understanding." Zoey sat back in her spot, "Don't get me wrong, it's gonna take awhile to get over years of hurt feelings, but we'll get there." She smiled over at the younger teens, "Eventually."

"In the meantime," Jenna smirked, "I will be exercising my familial rights to poke fun at any and everything. Just saying."

"It's understood." Vida smiled back, "Just understand I'll be doing the same."

"At least we know where we stand."

"Anyways," Maddy shook her head and looked at Jason, "We owe you an apology too. We didn't make it any easier on you than we did on them. We promise, we're going to try and do better. We really want to makes things better between us."

Jason nodded, smiled in understanding, "Thank you, girls. I appreciate that. We probably didn't help the situation either, so there's blame all around. We'll start over. Today." He reached out and gave them hugs, "Now, just so you two know, we are in the talks with the owners of the action sports store in Briarwood. If all goes well, we'll be partnering with Storm Chargers to open a new branch there."

"So, you'll be buying the business from the owner there?" Xander asked, "Because, to be honest, that guy's an ass. I'm surprised he hasn't gone out of business years ago."

"Yes, we'll be buying it from him."

"Good. Maybe now I'll get some proper skate equipment." He grumbled as he walked to the door, "Come on girls. We've got to go. Your mom wanted us back 10 minutes ago."

"He's right." Maddy said as they back away, "We'll talk to you later guys." Everyone waved as the young teens left.

Tommy turned to his sister, "What brought that on?"

"A lot of confusion." She rolled her eyes, "I'll explain it later. In the meantime, what team did we leave off on?"

"The Galaxy team." Justin said, looking at Max's list, "Neither Lightspeed or Time Force had animal Zords, right?"

"We didn't, no." Eric agreed. "I had my Q-Rex, but all of theirs were based on aerial vehicles, of some sort."

"Same here." Carter said, rocking Delilah, "All of our were rescue vehicles."

"That leaves Wild Force." Max smirked, "And we have a lot more animal Zords that had never been used before us."

"Name them." Zack pointed, "I want to hear it."

"Understand, that there were hundreds of Wild Zords that lived in Animaria." Alyssa explained, "But they weren't brought back until after the defeat of Master Org, so we never used most of those. The ones we did use were so unique, because they had never been seen or used on any other team."

"My primary Zord was the Red Lion," Cole said, "but I also had use of the Gorilla and Falcon Zord. I don't count the Soul Bird. That was used by all of us."

"Mine was the White Tiger." Alyssa smiled, "But I also used the Elephant and the Deer."

"Best was to get that Deer on our side," Taylor smirked, "Have Princess Shayla sing to it while Merrick played the flute." She laughed, "My primary Zord was the Eagle, but my secondary Zords were special. The Bear Brothers. One Polar Bear and one Black Bear."

"My main Zord was the Bison," Danny smiled, "but I also had the Rhino and Armadillo."

"I only had two Zords." Max pointed at the paper, "My primary Zord, the Shark, and my secondary Zord. The Giraffe." He looked up, "Merrick always had three Zords."

"Ever since he was Zen-Aku. But his primary Zord was the Wolf and his other two were the Alligator and the Hammerhead Shark."

"Animus was the Ancient Ruler of Animaria. He was thought to be destroyed over 3,000 years during the first war with the Orgs. He survived, thankfully. He's a living Megazord made up of the Black Lion, Condor, Saw Shark, Jaguar, and the Buffalo."

"A living Megazord?" Trini looked on in awe, "That's amazing."

"I know, right." Max threw his pen down and stretch. "Told you we had the best animal Zords. Wild Zords rule."

"Hold up." Zoey held up a hand as the Ninja Rangers smiled, "You forgot something, Shark Boy." He looked at her in confusion, "Us Ninja Rangers all had animal Zords."

"Wait, you did?"

"Oh, yes we did." She looked at Cam, "Should we also include the Spheres?"

He thought for a moment, "They seemed alive most of the time." He nodded, "Plus, they were our best weapons. If the Wild Zords could be used as weapons, why can't we count ours as such, too? Go for it." The Ninjas nodded.

"Alrighty then." She leaned back, "Dustin had the Lion and Jenna had the Wolf. We also had a Firebird, since we're including our Spheres." The teens were the only ones not confused, "Those are the only ones that were used by another Ranger on a previous team."

"That's not possible." Max crossed his arms.

"Wanna bet?" She smirked, "Shane had the Hawk and Tori had the Dolphin. Neither of which has been used before us. I, proudly, used the Fox while Cam's Star Zord was the Swallow. Since we," she gestured to the Ninja team, "consider insects in the same category as the Animal Zords, then we have to include Hunter's Insectizord and Blake's Beetlezord."

"What?" Zack looked at them, incredulously, "Bugs? I hate bugs."

Zoey glared at him for interrupting her, "Hey, Kim, how about that story of Bulk and Skull throw the bugs from the Science glass all over the students in the hallway? I'd love to hear how much Zack screamed?" He sat back down, grumbling, as everyone laughed.

"To continue," Jenna said, "Andy's Zord was the Scorpion and Raina's was the Monarch. We also had the Mammoth, Bee, Spider, Serpent, Ram, Turtle, Squid, Crab and Starfish."

"Hold on, didn't Zack have a Mammoth? And it shouldn't count, that's a dinosaur. Besides," Max pointed at her, "We already had an Elephant. So that doesn't count as new."

At the look Zoey just sent him, Hunter leaned around and whispered, loudly, "You just made a very big mistake."

"First of all," she stood up, "Zack had a Mastodon, not a Mammoth. They are two different things. Secondly, though the original team's Zords were based on the Dinosaurs, there were only two that are actually categorized as Dinos."

"Here she goes." Jason said, making the original team laugh.

"Mammoths and Mastodons are mammals and did not appear until many millions of years after the close of the Cretaceous period." Tommy nodded his head in agreement, "The Pterodactyls, or Pterosaurs, are not considered dinosaurs either. They lived among the dinosaurs and became extinct around the same time, but they are not dinosaurs. They were flying reptiles. And modern birds didn't descend from the pterosaurs either. Their ancestors were small, feathered, terrestrial dinosaurs."

She sat back down, "And let's not forget that the Saber-Tooth Tiger was a mammal, also, though they're not related to the tiger or other modern-day cats."

"Now," she said, speaking into the silence, "the Elephant is a modern-day Mammoth, so you're right about that. However, the Mammoth was larger and covered in long fur. They were part of the true Elephant family, just a different branch. But that's like saying the Falcon and Hawk are related. They're both birds, so not the same thing." She leaned forward, "Though the Mastodon looks a lot like the modern elephants, they are not closely related. The ancestors of modern elephants and Mammoths went their separate ways about 5 million years ago, and Mastodons branched off even earlier, about 25 million years ago. Try not to get them confused."

She rolled her eyes and got up, "Who's ready for the final match?" She walked down to the mats to stretch, "Let's go. I'm itchy."

"I'm fixing to gain a few more bruises." Jenna said, sarcastically, "She's gonna take her frustration on Max out on me. You know, if she didn't have that stupid problem with the Spark, she'd have gotten her stripes before me. She's a much better fighter."

The teens laughed as they got up to watch the two friends battle it out.

Jason leaned forward and looked at a speechless Max, "Congratulations, Max. You've just gotten your first Zoey Rant."

"And it won't be his last." Eric chuckled, "You should have heard her go off on me about the comment I made about Tommy's Dragon Zord and my Q-Rex."

"Damn it, Zoey!"

They looked around to see Jenna rubbing the back of her head, "I think you bruised my Wolf, you little brat." Zoey smirked, "Alright, fine." She turned to look at her brother, "Can you guys get all of your kids, please. Hold on to them."

They confused, the nodded in acquiesce, picking up the kids and holding them.

"Alright, Pinky. Pai Zhuq mode. Ready?" The girls nodded before taking up their stances.

"Oh, crap." Shane gestured to the teens to back away from the mats, "Mind the claws, girls, please. I still have a mark from the last time you sent Tala after me."

"Sorry, Shane." Jenna smiled, not really sorry.

"Ready?" Hunter stepped forward, looking at both girls, "Go!"

The girls leaped at each in a flurry of movement, too fast for anyone to keep up. They jumped back and smiled at one another, barely out of breath. Jenna swung her arms around, creating a purple and silver aura, "Call to the beast inside! Uncage the Wolf!" A large purple wolf shot out and lunged itself at Zoey. The Pink Ranger just smirked and the wolf his a pink energy blast, sending it back. "I thought we were sticking to Pai Zhuq?" Jenna glared.

"When did we agree to that?" Zoey smirked as she threw her own arms out, "Call to the beast inside! Release the Fox!" A pink fox shot out and battled with the wolf.

"How are they doing that?" Wes asked as the older Rangers looked on, "I've never seen anything like it. Is it a Ninja thing?"

"No. It's a Pai Zhuq thing." Tommy said, watching his sister, "It's a martial arts training academy, similar to the Ninja schools. Instead of training how to control their element, they train to control their inner animal spirit." He leaned for to watch as the girls went at each other again, "Zoey and Jenna are the only two here trained in it. Andy just started working with the girls to learn and control his own spirit. He'll be attending the academy after he graduates from high school."

They watched for another ten minutes, the longest any of the matches had taken before, when Jenna went flying backwards, effectively ending the bout. "Damn it, woman!" She back up and frowned at her friend, "That's going to leave a mark."

"I win." Zoey smirked as she walked over to her friend, "Come on, Wolf Master. You really should have seen that move coming."

"Didn't you use that move on Jerk-wad?"

"Which Jerk-wad?" They laughed, "Oh, you mean Mr. I'm better than you Senior Cub?" Jenna nodded, "Yes I did. And it pissed him off to no end. I don't know if he ever figured out how to do it properly." The teens walked back over to the tables.

"That's my girl." Tommy got up and gave her a hug, "You've really mastered those tornado kicks. They look a little different when you do them, though."

"I think that's the fox in her." Billy looked over, "With the speed and agility, it looks more graceful than powerful. Really takes her opponent off guard."

Carter and his team stood up, "This was really fun guys, but we've got to get on the road. The Captain called for an early call tomorrow. We've got some recruits with some disciplinary problems and wants us to run interference on them. See if they have what it takes to stay in the program."

Wes agreed as he and Eric got up with the Wild Force team, "Funny, I got a call last night from my father. He's not feeling very well and has asked that I help out in the company for a couple of weeks." He rolled his eyes, "As much as I hate putting on a suit, I'll do it. I almost lost him once. I'd rather help and make sure he gets better than to shut him down."

"And we rode in with them and the Guardians, so we've got to head out as well." Cole walked over to Zoey and held out his hand, "Let's do this properly. Hi, I'm Cole Evans. Wild Force Red Ranger." She smiled as she shook the offered hand, "It's an honor to meet a fellow Ranger. Especially one with Legendary status, before she got her morpher."

"Thank you, Cole. I appreciate that." She smirked, "Just remember what I said before."

"Wouldn't have it any other way."

After they left, the teens and the Space Rangers helped clean up the Youth Center, taking only 30 minutes to do so.

"Alright, guys." Jason clapped his hands to get everyone's attention, "It was a good week. You kids," he pointed to the teens, "are amazing. We are so proud of you. Not just because of the tournament, though that was morphenominal team work." The older Rangers nodded as the teen smiled, "What you went through last year with Lothor was intense. You had your ups and downs, like any team, but you banded together and became a family. You worked hard and persevered against your enemy, and got your schools back. Congratulations."

The room cheered as the Ninjas high-fived each other.

"Now," Tommy said, clapping Andros on the shoulder, holding his son, "we plan to hold the memorial service tomorrow, as always, if you guys are able to make."

"We wouldn't miss it." They walked out of the building to load up and leave.

Zoey was putting her bag in the back of her jeep when she started to get dizzy, "Oh, no." She shook her head, tried to clear her vision, "Not again." She looked around, "Tommy!"

At the yell, her brother looked over and braced, "Damn it!" He ran over just in time to catch her before she fell, "Jenna? When's the last time this happened?"

"She had a little one caused by those damn nightmare collars." Hunted explained, "She came out of it, fast than the three, though. I think her mom is the reason. She broke the collar before we destroyed Eyezak."

"She helped us stay focused during the Zord battle because they were trying to reactivate the collars." Shane nodded, remembering, "She never ceases to amaze me."

"Let's get her to the cabin." Jason said, opening the back seat door of Zoey's jeep, "We'll stay there with you again tonight, help you keep an eye on her."

"Sounds good. Alright everyone," Tommy put his sister in the back, "we'll meet up again in the morning. Hopefully, her mom let's her go by then."

1-2-3-4-5

Zoey looked around, frustrated, "Seriously? I thought we were done with this?" She frowned, not recognizing her surroundings, "What's with all of the snow?" She looked up to see an Snowy Owl staring at her from the branch of a tree, "Why do I feel uneasy?" The owl's eyes glowed right before it jumped off the branch and flew at her, "Oh, no."

Hey guys. Look out for the bonus scene, coming soon. In the meantime, I adjusted the end of chapter 5 in the Dino Thunder to work with this chapter. Not a big deal if you don't read it, but it corresponds. As always, don't forget to vote. Thanks!
