Kanto Part 8
Ash and Alice are now boarding the S.S Anne and a staff asks, "Do you have a ticket? Young fellas?"
Ash and Alice give him each a ticket and he says, "Yup, that'll do. Welcome aboard the S.S Anne."
As they are exploring the inside, they have some battles in each room and as they head to the second floor, only to find Gary Oak there. "Gary Oak? You are here at the ship as well?" Alice asks in surprise.
"Well if it isn't Ashy Boy and Alice. Bonjour! Were you really invited?" Gary asks.
"If we weren't, we wouldn't be here." Ash mutters.
"So how's your Pokédex coming? I already caught 40 kinds, pal. Different kinds are everywhere. Crawl around in grassy areas, and look hard for them." Gary says.
"So you are a step ahead of us as well. We are going to capture some Water Pokemon during the cruise. Since we got an Old Rod." Alice says.
"I see. Well, if you don't mind, how about we have a battle?" Gary asks.
"You're on." Ash replies as he sends out Pidgeotto first. Ash sends out his Sandshrew first as Gary asks, "Using a Ground Type to battle a Flying Type? Are you out of your mind?"
"You'll see. Use Rollout." Ash yells as Sandshrew rolls and hits Pidgeotto, much to Gary's amusement, "Not bad, Ash. Use Gust." Pidgeotto stops the attack, but Sandshrew uses the Slash to finish Pidgeotto off. Gary sends out Raticate as his second Pokemon, it defeats the Sandshrew with the Hyper Fang. Ash sends out Mankey as his second Pokemon. With Mankey's Rage and Karate Chop, Raticate is being beaten into fainting.
Gary sends out Kadabra as his next Pokemon, using the Psychic to slam Mankey into the wall. Ash sends out Butterfree next, and with the Bug Buzz and the Gust, it defeats the Pokemon. The final one is Wartortle, his starter Pokemon, and it uses the Hydro Pump to defeat the Butterfree. In the end, Ash uses his Pikachu and finishes with the Thunderbolt.
"Even though I didn't have much Pokemon than you do, I still win the game." Ash says.
"Humph! At least you're raising your Pokémon!" Gary mutters as he recalls his Wartortle. "Well, I heard there was a Cut master on board. But he was just a seasick old man! Cut itself is really useful! Yup, it'll be handy. You should go see him, too. Smell ya!"
After Gary gets back into his room to rest, Alice says, "Cut Master? Maybe it will be useful if we get the Hidden Machine to learn Cut."
Ash says, "I know, let's go find him."
As they head to the captain's room, they are surprised to see the captain along with a man who is hunching over a trash can. Ash asks, "Is there we can help?"
The captain asks them to give the man a backrub, and they do it together. In the end, the man feels better and then he offers to give them the Hidden Machine known as Cut. At the same time, they also ask the Captain about how far they have gone, and the captain tells them that they are at the great place to fish out some Pokemon. Ash and Alice decides to go to the deck as they go capture some Pokemon.
But due to the fact that the rod they have are Old Rods, so all they fish out is Magikarp. "You know, I think we should get a better rod so we can fish out some good Pokemon."
"I agree. I don't feel like I can fish out something other than Magikarp..." Ash says as they decide to get back to their room to relax.
After leaving the ship, they finally decide to head towards the Vermilion Gym. Inside the gym they find that the place is full of trash cans and an electric trap in front of them.
"Oh boy...this gym sure is different than the ones we have seen..." Ash mutters.
"I agree." Alice says as they see the Guide. "I've been waiting for you, champ in the making. Lt. Surge is the Gym Leader in this city. He's an expert on Electric Type Pokemon and a real tough guy."
"I can tell. I have seen him on TVs as a former military member." Ash says.
"Flying and Water type Pokemon don't do well matched up against Electric Types, you'll also want to watch out so your Pokemon don't get stuck paralyzed." The guide says. "And here is my last tip. Lt. Surge is the cautious type. He's put barriers between himself and the rest of this room, so it won't be easy to get to him."
As they walk forward, they are stopped by Sailor Dwayne as he says, "This is no place for kids! Not even if you're good at Pokemon!"
"Well we have been looked down." Ash mutters as the sailor sends out two Pikachu. Ash sends out Sandshrew and Oddish to battle. Both Pikachu are taunting Ash's Pokemon as his Pikachu is feeling a little irritated by them. But in the end, with the Sleep Powder and the Dig Attack, the two Pikachu are defeated.
"Wow, you surprised me." Then the sailor lets them go as Ash is stopped by an engineer named Baily. "I am lightweight, but I am good at electricity, that is why I joined this gym."
Then he sends out Voltorb and Magnemite. Ash continues to use Sandshrew and this time he also sends out the Charmeleon. It is surprised to Ash that the Voltorb uses Self-Destruct, but it is able to to half both Ash's Pokemon's HP. In the end, with the Flamethrower Magnemite is also down.
The final trainer is Gentleman named Tucker. "When I was in the army, Lt. Surge was my strict CO. He was a hard taskmaster." The man says as he sends out Pikachu. Ash sees how Pikachu wants to battle, so he uses him to battle his same species. In the end, Pikachu's Dig attack causes the gentleman's Pokemon to be defeated.
Now that all the trainers are defeated, they finally find the switch in the full trash can and then they activate it, causing the electric barrier to be gone. "Great, now we can finally face him." Ash says.
Alice says, "You go teach the man a lesson, Ash." Ash thanks Alice for the cheer as he steps forward.
Lt. Surge looks down at him and says, "Hey, kid! What do you think you're doing here?"
"I am challenging you to a gym battle, that's what I am here for." Ash says.
Lt. Surge just gives him a laugh and says, "You won't live long in combat! Not with your puny power! I tell you, kid, electric Pokémon saved me during the war! They zapped my enemies into paralysis! The same as I'll do to you!"
Then he sends out his first Pokemon, a Voltorb. Ash sends out Sandshrew as his first Pokemon. Sandshrew uses the Dig to dodge the upcoming attacks like Sonic Boom and Rapid Spin, but it is a surprise to Ash that in the end, Voltorb jumps into the hole Sandshrew made and uses Self-Destruct, causing both Pokemon to faint.
"Wow...that is a surprise..." Alice mutters.
Lt. Surge says, "You are going to be hard if you want to beat me, go Magnemite." As the Pokemon appears, Ash sends out Charmeleon. Charmeleon uses Ember on Magnemite, which is super effective, then Magnemite uses Flash Cannon, Charmeleon dodges and uses Dragon Rage. Magnemite used Iron defense to lower the damage, then it uses Tri Attack and hit Charmeleon, Charmeleon just gets hit and gets Paralyzed.
"Charmeleon, I know you can do it, get up and use Scary Face."
Charmeleon jumps back up and uses the attack, causing the Attack stat of the Pokemon to get lowered. And in the end, it is defeated by the Ember.
"No one was able to face my final Pokemon, but prepare to lose." Then he uses the Raichu, the evolution of Pikachu. And the Raichu just uses the Thunder Punch to knock out Charmeleon.
"Pikachu, you are up." Ash yells as he sends back the Pokemon. Lt. Surge just laughs and says, "Well what do we have here? A baby Pokemon appears."
"Talk what you like, Pikachu is going to beat your Raichu." Ash says.
Alice sees how Ash is being taunted every now and then by the gym leader, she starts to worry and she mutters, "Ash..."
Pikachu starts with Quick Attack, which hits Raichu. Raichu uses Slam on Pikachu, causing him to crash into a wall, Pikachu gets up and uses Thunderbolt, while Raichu also uses a Thunderbolt back. Due to Raichu is stronger, Pikachu is hit. Lt Surge then lets Raichu use Iron Tail, Ash calls out to Pikachu in worry, but Pikachu dodges the attack using his speed. Then Pikachu starts to use Agility, running around in circles which causes Raichu to get dizzy, then ends it with a Dig attack.
"Now that's a shocker! You're the real deal, kid! Fine, then, take the Thunder Badge!"
He throws a badge at Ash, who picks it and thanks him. Lt. Surge says, "And that's not all, you are special, so I'll give you this." He gives him an autograph and they just give him an "Are you serious" look.
"The Thunder Badge cranks up your Pokémon's speed. So your Pokemon would be able to move faster. Now show the world how strong you are."
Alice also walks up to Ash and says, "Congratulations, Ash. You won another gym badge."
"Yeah, I couldn't have done it without my Pokemon's help." Ash says as they leave the gym. Alice says, "You know, I was really worried when Lt. Surge keeps taunting you to make you distracted. But I am glad that you are able to win."
"I just didn't really listen to what he is saying, since I was just focus on trying to win a badge. Do you think it is weird for me to think like that?" Ash asks.
Alice shakes her head and says, "No, that is your style. And it works in this kind of situation." Just then, they see Misty at the sea, and she notices them. "Oh, it's you again!"
"Hey, Misty. I got the third badge." Ash says as he shows her the badge. "Oooh, wow. You beat Lt. Surge? You must be pretty good! Glad to see you're really learning a thing or two. And your Pokémon must've tried their best!" Misty says.
"Yeah, but what are you doing here?" Alice asks.
"Oh, me? I'm going swimming in the sea. There are times when want to just break free from a puny little pool and swim in the big blue! Where are you headed next? Have you been to Diglett's Cave? It's pretty close by. If you haven't been, I could show you the way. Want a guide?"
"Well, not today, since we just want to rest in the Pokemon Center, how about tomorrow?" Ash asks.
"It is fine, I understand." Misty says as they all head inside the Pokemon Center.
Now here is another chapter, at first I was thinking of having Ash and Alice capture more Pokemon in the S.S Anne, but it turns out that all I found in the Old Rod from Red, Green and Blue version are Magikarp. So I decide to wait until they get Good Rod to have them capture fishing Pokemon.
