Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Empress and Pawn. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Sword Art, Reki, Yen Press and a few others do.

Cay started to think of how to break out of the prison cell. He didn't wish to injure the guards if only because it'd draw Quinella to the cell.

"I need to stop her or she'll destroy the entire kingdom." Cay muttered before thinking. "What exactly does she need me for? She's pretty much a goddess at this point." Cay asked himself and let out a sigh.

He started to pick at the lock. If there was one thing, he knew well about Quinella? She thought her mere presence was enough to stop any real escape attempts.

Quinella was right, but it meant she'd have to waste time finding him. Still? Cay also knew that if he tried to get back to the resistance? Quinella would rip apart everything just to find him. Quinella was nothing if not determined.

Cay decided he was much better as one of Quinella's pawns. Maybe the woman could be stopped. Cay didn't plan on destroying the entire kingdom or letting various people die.

Plus, Quinella listened to him. Cay could make sure the empress didn't hurt anyone else.

"The things I'll do for this kingdom scare me." Cay muttered while starting to pick the lock. He was glad at least Quinella was willing to feed him, but the bones of his food?

Excellent lockpicks.

(With Quinella)

"The king's troops have surrounded the borders of the kingdom." One of the generals stated before taking a breath. "But we've managed to find their supply lines." The General added.

"We need to push them off the borders if their threat to the kingdom is ended." Quinella stated and cracked a smile. "Our troops should meet them at the river. Once we destroy them there? We can chase them back to the harbor where their fleet is docked." Quinella put in while another of her military officers decided to speak up.

"Your majesty, with all due respect?" A colonel said with a raised eyebrow. "Their fleet will rip apart our soldiers apart. It's kept Admiral John from bringing back supplies for 2 weeks at least." The Colonel added which made Quinella sigh.

"Their fleet has been an issue for 2 weeks because of how numerous their fleet is." Quinella said before sitting back gently in her chair. "We need to draw their forces into a decisive battle. A single defeat on that scale will scatter their forces. I thought we sent reinforcements to aid the admiral." Quinella stated which made her officers nervous.

"Your majesty, the home fleet is needed here." General Brone stated as Quinella raised an eyebrow. "They have the fleet around here. We cannot relocate forces." Brone stated before Quinella shook her head at the man.

"I will deal with their fleet personally, General." Quinella said and narrowed her eyes. "We need to deal with their fleet. The second I send their ships to the depths? You need to send the fleet to deal with their reinforcements." Quinella said before rising to her feet.

Quinella was aware her staff knew of her magic. They knew she could rip through the king's forces herself. Brone nodded and looked to the side.

"We're see to it that the Admiral gets his reinforcements, your majesty." Brone said while Quinella nodded. "But may I ask why you intend on destroying them at sea so badly?" Brone asked as Quinella hummed and turned to him.

"Because that fleet is stopping us from winning this war, General." Quinella said and crossed her arms." I'm not allowing them to kill more of our soldiers at sea." Quinella stated before narrowing her eyes.

"Your dismissed, General. I'll deal with the fleet and send a message back here." Quinella put in and rubbed at her eyes. "This war needs to end sooner or later." Quinella said as the Colonel and General Brone left.

Quinella sighed and allowed the duo to leave. She knew both had the kingdom's best interests at heart. It's why she trusted both of them.

"Cay, I swear you are driving me insane." Quinella hissed to herself while rubbing at her temples in anger. "Every single time I leave there comes to be more problems. Damn that king and his army. I'll rip them all apart if they don't retreat." Quinella stated to herself and walked back to her throne.

She knew very well just how well dug in their army was. If they didn't push back sooner or later? The kingdom would start to starve.

"Even General Brone should know the fate of the kingdom. He's been defending it since I established it." Quinella added and teleported herself to her throne.

(With Cay.)

Cay looked around to make sure there was no guards in the area. He let out a sigh and rubbed at his stomach.

"I need to go and find Quinella… I hate this plan already." Cay muttered to himself.
