It had been a few months since the birth of J.C and Nessie. Edward had stopped trying to kill Jasper and me. Everything was peaceful ever since Edward had left. The babies were both vampires, though just like their older sister, their growth rate is unprecedented. They learn every day and they love school. They look more like one-year-olds instead of month olds but that was due to their unprecedented growth rates.
C.J took after Jas. He had Jasper's blonde curls, brown eyes, nose, chin, and body physique. Ness on the other hand...had my violet eyes, ginger hair, nose, chin, and body physique.
C.J grew the fastest. We knew we'd have forever with them though. C.J and Nessie were the smartest vampire and vampiress that the Cullen's and I had ever seen. They even had powers like Jasper, Edward, Alice, and I. C.J could sense emotions, influence the elements, and he was telepathic, meaning he could transmit thoughts into people's minds and read anyone's thoughts. Well...except mine and Bella's because of our mind shields. We could take our mind shields down, that was the only time C.J could read our thoughts. Ness could read minds, sense emotions, and she could plant any memory she was thinking into someone's mind! It felt like our happily ever after was complete...
The Denali Coven visited us often. They lived in Alaska and were the only other vegetarian vampires and vampiresses that the Cullen's and I knew, they were also mine and the Cullen's cousins. Irina was in a relationship with Laurent, until the werewolves killed him. Laurent had tried to kill me during the time Tula and the Cullen's were gone, when Tula had...left me. Irina hated the werewolves and I after that. When the Denali's visited, Irina was never there...
"She'll come around, I'm sure," Carmen said, Carmen was Eleazar's wife and the adoptive mother of Irina, Kate, and Tanya. Eleazar was Carmen's husband and the adoptive father of Irina, Kate, and Tanya. We enjoyed having them over, C.J and Ness liked them too. C.J and Ness usually spoke using their supernatural vampire and vampiress talents/powers. Ness only had to think of something and touch someone's face. C.J didn't need to do what Ness did, he could do it without physical contact.
When the Denali's left, Jacob and I decided to take C.J and Ness on a hunting trip. They needed some animal blood. It was snowing as it was nearly Christmas. Jacob was in his wolf form, of course. Ness and C.J were catching snowflakes; they were using their vampire and vampiress powers. That's when I saw her, stood on a cliff.
"IRINA!" I yelled. Irina didn't reply, she walked off. She was upset... Jake, Ness, C.J, and I headed home.
When we got home, I explained what happened. Immediately, Jasper called the Denali's. When the call was finished, he told us why Irina was back.
"Tanya and Kate persuaded her to come back,"
"Seeing Jacob must've been too much for her," I said in an almost inaudible whisper.
"Whatever the reason, we need to talk to her," Just then, Alice dropped the vase full of flowers she was carrying. She never dropped anything, even when she was having a vision...the vision she was having must've stunned her a lot to cause her to drop the vase.
"The Volturi...they're coming for us. Aro, Caius, Marcus, the guard...everyone," She said. I gasped.
"Why? We haven't done anything wrong," Carlisle said.
"What did Irina say to you in the woods?" Jas asked me.
"We were just walking..." I said.
"Ness and C.J were catching snowflakes," Jacob chimed in.
"Then why?" Carlisle asked again. Just then, I got an idea. Irina thought C.J and Ness were immortal children!
"Wait, I know why!" I suddenly said.
"Why?" Jasper asked.
"What would Ness and C.J have looked like with just one glance?" I asked.
"Of course, Irina thinks they're immortal children!"
"What are immortal children?" C.J asked in his angelic voice.
"Immortal children are human children who have been turned into vampires at a very early age. Creating immortal children has long been outlawed by the Volturi due to their inability to remain concealed from the human world. There is no absolute age limit set as to what constituted an immortal child; it was a subjective definition, based on the child's ability to behave himself in a way consistent with vampire law." Carlisle started.
"Like all vampires and vampiresses, immortal children are frozen at the mental and physical age at which they were transformed. Post-transformation, these small children continued to exhibit childish behaviors, including impulsive acts, tantrums, irresponsible activities, and a general lack of circumspection. It is said that an immortal child's tantrum can kill people, since restraint is basically impossible for someone so young.
Another aspect was their appeal; they were both beautiful and endearing that any human or vampire would automatically love them. Described as adorable little children with smiles and dimples that would destroy a village in one of their tantrums.
It is presumed that while their mental maturity is frozen at the age they were transformed, they still have the vampiric gifts of enhanced strength and speed as well the supernatural gifts of certain vampires and vampiresses." He finished explaining.
"What about their history?" I asked.
"The uncontrollable, childish behaviors of immortal children battled the vampire laws of secrecy, and these children often attracted the notice of human.
The Volturi found themselves punishing individual covens for the behavior of their immortal children with a much greater frequency than other occurrences of lawlessness. Because of the devotion inspired by immortal children, the Volturi were forced to destroy full covens in order to destroy one immortal child. After some study into the matter, the Volturi decreed that immortal children were not capable of following the law, and therefore it was made illegal to create them. Creating one had since become the worst crime in the vampire world, under penalty of death for both the child and its creator, whether the child had broken the law or not.
Even after the law was established ORLA, the Volturi kept two children to experiment on. However, no matter how many centuries they'd spent teaching the children, they still could not be controlled or taught. I stumbled across these children during my stay in Volterra and learned of this law. After they determined that immortal children could not be tamed, they had the children destroyed." Carlisle explained.
"What they were thinking, those ancient ones, I can't begin to understand," Carlisle mumbled.
"What do you mean, ancient ones?" I asked curiously.
"Denali's mother made an immortal child..." He stated.
"You mean their real mother?"
"Yes, she was killed and so was Vasilii,"
"Vasilii?"
"That's what the mother named the child,"
"Oh, I see now,"
"We're missing the obvious question! The hell are we gonna do about the Volturi?!" Jasper said.
