Eighteen sighed mentally as she slipped on her now cold latte, she, Krillin and Marron were having lunch with Bloomer, and Yamcha.
She's been bored since Marron started school and Vegan moved in with Goku.
She didn't like hanging with Bloomer and Yamcha, but since Krillin was friends with both of them.
She had to endure.
Trunks was lucky enough to weasel out of it.
She hasn't seen much of Vegan since she moved out, she wondered how they were doing...
Was Vegan alright?
Was Goku?
Were they a couple now?
Did Goku know how to take care of a woman with an ectopic pregnancy?
Poor Vegan, she was probably writhing on ground in pain as we speak...
And poor Goku was probably freaking out!
'Honey?' She heard someone say as she was tapped on the shoulder.
She turned to Krillin. 'Hm?'
'Didn't you hear?'
'Hear what?'
'Yamcha and Bloomer are getting married.'
Yamcha showed off her silver ring with several large blue diamonds in the center, everyone stared at her expectantly as she inspected the ring. It was beautiful, but 18 found herself wondered how Vegan would react to the news.
If the stress ends up hurting her, she'd kill him.
'Oh.'
'That's all you have to say?!' Bloomer snapped.
What exactly was he expecting her to say?
'What do you want me to say?'
'You could come up with something better than oh!'
'I have a lot to deal with, Marron's in summer school now. The house feels empty with her in school and Krillin at work. I don't really have the energy feint outrage.'
He paused at the remark then said, 'What about your... friends?' Bloomer asked as he sipped on his third glass of wine. 'Why don't hang out with them!'
He was trying to ask me about Vegan! She thought as she watched him of the corner of her eye.
Well if he wants to know, then he's going have to as explicitly ask about her!
'They have their own lives...' she said dismissively.
'No friends to go shopping with?'
'Busy with our own lives.'
If he wants to know about Vegan, he's going have work for it...
'Doing what?
'Oh, you know... the usual.'
'What's that?'
'Planning weddings. Things like that.'
Bloomer scoffed and turned away.
'When's the big day?' Krillin asked quickly.
'Someone time next year,' Bloomer replied casually, 'I always did want a spring wedding.'
And I'll just bet it'll fall on Vegan's due date. She thought.
'Oh.'
Maybe that's why Trunks didn't come.
'Your mother made a cake for Marron, I have the plate in the car, don't let me forget to give it to you.'
She decided not to take the bait.
'Fine.' He said quickly, folding his arms, seemingly to pout.
'I think I'm going to start training again.' She said, absentmindedly. 'I always did have a good time training. Maybe Piccolo would be interested...'
'He's at the lookout.' Yamcha chimed in. 'Gohan often goes up there to meditate. He's got a lot on his plate...'
'Hercule mentioned that he and Videl had a fight..' Krillin said.
'That's too bad, I liked Videl, she was nice.' Eighteen said in an airy voice. 'Did he he get into that school he wanted?'
'Yeah, and Chi Chi wants throw a party, but she...'
'But what?'
'She can't seem to find Goku.'
'I'll find him.' Eighteen said quietly as she turned to Marron. The little girl looked just as bored, back when it was Vegan and Bloomer, Vegan would talk to her, play with her.
Eighteen wasn't even sure if Yamcha liked kids.
These luncheons were beginning to grow tedious...
Then a miracle happened; her phone buzzed.
''I gotta take this!' She said as she eagerly rushed away from the table. 'Hello?'
'Hey, it's me, Goku!'
'Goku, I was just thinking about you.'
'Really? Why?'
'Is something wrong with Vegan?'
'No, well... she's been a little depressed...'
'Oh. Well, Goku she's going through a lot. Tell me why you called.'
'Well, her birthday is in September...'
'Oh, you want to do something for her birthday. That's so sweet!'
'Why were you thinking about me?'
'Gohan got into a school-'
'Gohan mentioned that, he said his mother wants to do something, but he doesn't feel like celebrating.'
'Oh, so you already know. I think Chi Chi just wants you to spend as much time as you can with the boys before the baby comes.'
'Then why doesn't she bring them over?'
'Probably because Vegan is there.'
'What does that have to do with?' He sounded angry. 'Just Vegan and I are having a baby together doesn't mean I don't care about them!'
'I know that.'
'I'm going to tell her that!'
'How's everything else going?'
'We're going to the doctor tomorrow.' He said quietly. 'Vegan's worried.'
'Of course she is. Are you?'
'...I'm-' She sensed anxiety in his voice. 'I'm fine.'
'Goku, it's okay to be scared-'
'I'm not scared!' He said quickly.
'Goku, it's okay, I'm scared too. What if I come with you? Make things easier for you guys.'
'Vegan will like that.'
'As a matter of fact, I can come now.'
'Are you sure? I sense that your family's energy and that you're near Bloomer...'
'Yeah...'
'He might follow... Vegan's not in the mood for that.'
'Krillin and I can come by later...'
Her first trimester was nearly over... and she was beginning to show...
A small bump, but still... she felt little flutterings here and there, the baby was moving.
When she went to Capsule Corp to collect the rest of her things, Vegan told Dr. Briefs that it would probably be best if she if she found a new doctor.
She thought it would be weird if he was her doctor...
Besides she didn't want to risk getting into an argument everytime she went to an appointment.
Why risk the child's safety even more?
Since she's been living at Mt. Paozu, Kakarotto has been true his word.
It was actually sweet watching him dote on her and the baby...
But he's far more serious now... he doesn't laugh as much...
'18 said that she and Krillin would try to come by later.' He said quietly as he dragged a dead dinosaur up to Vegan. 'I know you've been kinda lonely.'
'It's fine...'
'It's not... I know that you miss Trunks...'
'He doesn't want to see me...' she said dismissively. 'I can't force myself on him.'
'He would spend time with you if Bloomer told him to.'
'It's fine.'
'No it's not!'
'Kakarotto, I think you should go see your boys.' She said.
'I want to, but...' He stopped. 'I'm going to start back going over there.'
'That's good.' She put her hands on her bump. 'Oh. Rambunctious little guy.'
'When can we learn what we're having?'
'About around the 13 or 14 week mark.' She said with a smile.
'How long is that?'
'About 3 months.'
'How many months are you?'
'3...'
'Can we learn-'
'No, 18 wants to have one of those gender reveal parties...' Vegan muttered quietly.
'Gender reveal party?' He repeated. 'What's that?'
'Well, it's when your family or your friends plan a party to
tell you the sex of your baby. I've seen some of them on the internet, they're really quite fascinating.'
'Do we really have to have one?'
'They look fun...'
'But do we have to have one?'
'I've arranged for the doctor to call her.'
'I don't want to be surprised...' he whined.
'We only have two options...' she rubbed her stomach. 'You won't that surprised.'
'Are you hurting?'
'A little.' He squatted down to her stomach. 'What are you doing?'
'Little one, you shouldn't give your mommy such a hard time.' He said as he put his hand on her bump. 'She's putting herself through a lot of heartache to have you.'
'Don't say that!' She laughed.
'I thought it might help. When are we going to have this party?'
'Don't know, I guess whenever 18 gets everything together.'
'Can I invite the boys?'
'Of course.'
'Are you going to invite Trunks?'
'I'll try... his father might not let him come. I would like to invite his parents.'
'What do you want; boy or girl?'
'I don't know... I'll just settle for the baby to survive.'
'Me, too... but I want a son.' He said proudly. 'Gosh! Just imagine how strong he's going be!' He paused. 'Oh, you know... we haven't talked about that...'
'Talked about what?'
'Our baby. Do you want them to be a warrior?'
'I would, but I will let them decide what they want to do with their life.'
'Oh.'
'What's oh?'
'Is that why Trunks didn't raised as a warrior?'
'Well, we're in peacetime, so, was the point?'
'Did Bloomer tell you not to?' She looked at him, he turned red and rubbed the back of his neck. 'I just remember him saying that he'd never want a kid like me once when we were younger.'
'No one could ever be like you, Kakarotto.'
He turned red and looked away, then turned back to her, alarmed.
'Is that good or bad?'
'A little of both, mostly good. Why would it be bad?'
'Chi Chi always told me that she wished that I was normal...'
'Do you wish I was normal?'
'If you were normal, I wouldn't find you as interesting... I think that's why Bloomer liked you.'
'He doesn't like me much now...'
'He's just hurt...'
'I didn't realize that he was the only person in world who hurt.'
'Are you going to tell Bloomer about-?'
'No... he won't let me see Trunks, I shudder to think about my life with this child if he finds out.'
'What if he finds out?'
'I'll take it and leave.'
'You'd really leave?' He said quietly. 'What about Trunks?'
'His father won't let me see him anyway...' she touched her stomach. 'I've grown tired of this whole thing...'
'What do you mean?'
'He's changed.' She rubbed her stomach. 'The way he treats me... that's why I'll never back go.'
'Vegan...'
'I'd rather die than go back... I should have died...'
'Vegan, what are you saying?'
'You shouldn't have wished me back.' She clutched her stomach. 'Maybe I'll get lucky this time.'
'What about the baby?'
'Don't let him take my baby.'
'So, tell me what did he say about Trunks and fighting?' Asked Goku, changing the subject.
'Promise me.'
'Vegan-'
'Promise me.'
'Ok... but if he's the father, I will let him see them.'
'Don't let him raise them.'
'Vegan...'
'I don't want to talk about it anymore.'
'Ok. So tell me what he said about Trunks being a warrior.'
'He did mention that he wanted Trunks to have a normal life, but he didn't mind Trunks fighting...' she looked at him. 'Is that why Gohan isn't a warrior?'
'Chi Chi wanted him to have a normal life...'
'Well, excuse my French, but he's not fucking normal... we aren't normal.'
'I know.'
'And who the hell wants to be normal!' She said as she stood.
'What even is normal?'
'Has she forgotten that you're a sayain! Our idea of normal is completely different from a human's! Normal to a sayain, is selling this planet to the highest bidder or laying waste to it and enslaving her and your friends, right?'
'I don't understand how can she not like me the way I am, I was like this when we married.'
'Maybe you were better off as friends. Some relationship are like that...'
'Are we like that?'
'Maybe, maybe be not... only time will tell...'
'I need to have you in my life,' he said with that stupid grin of his, 'it doesn't matter what we are. As long as we're on the same time, know that I'll make it.'
More flutterings, but these are in her chest.
'I promise to always be by on side.'
'We should go.' 18 said quietly. 'Marron looks like she ready to kill over.'
Bloomer glanced over at the little girl, nodding off and catching herself before she fell down.
Poor kid, she did looked so bored, and Bloomer couldn't blame her. Talking to her mother was like trying to talk to a brick wall.
'Besides, we need to hurry.'
'Why?' Asked Yamcha.
'I have some business I need to take care of.' 18 said quickly.
What business did she have to tend to?
'Such as.' Bloomer snapped.
'Getting the hell out of here.'
'You know,' Yamcha said quickly, 'you could be a little nicer!'
'You're still alive, aren't you?'
'Y-yes?'
'You're welcome.'
'Honey.' Krillin said firmly. 'We had a great time.'
'I didn't.'
'We'll see you guys later.'
18 couldn't leave fast enough. Bloomer thought as he stormed upstairs. These luncheons were beginning to grate on his nerves, and 18 was becoming a real bitch.
Maybe he should cancel them.
'Sweetheart, where are you going?' Yamcha called rushing after him.
'To shower.'
'Maybe I can-'
'I'm not in the mood!'
He really didn't want to shower, he just wanted some time to himself...
He'd forgotten how clingy Yamcha was...
Ever since she found that stupid ring, she's been trying to drag him here and there!
He just wanted to be left alone...
'Ah, Bloomer,' his father said as he stalked into the lab, 'how did your day go?'
'Horribly.'
Dr. Briefs sighed as Bloomer sat at a desk and began typing.
'What happened?'
'18 is such a bitch.'
'How?'
Bloomer paused for a second then turned away.
'Because she just is!'
'Is it because of Vegan?'
'It has nothing to do with her! She wasn't even mentioned.'
'I see.' He said with a knowing smile. 'Ah, that reminds me; Mrs. Wallace called. She said Trunks and Billy were fighting. He broke his arm in 3 place.' Dr. Briefs said quietly. 'He ran off...'
'We've got to find him-'
'He's in his room.'
'What is his problem?!'
'Maybe he misses his mother.'
Bloomer paused for a second then resumed typing.
'I'm not stopping her from coming to see him!'
'But you're not taking him to see to her.'
'She's his mother, she should be making a way to see him.'
'Why give her more to stress about?'
'Well, if she hadn't-'
'Well, Bloomer, she did!' Dr. Briefs said quickly. 'She's having a baby with another man!' Bloomer looked away pouting. 'And you have to deal with it! What would you do if she dropped dead tomorrow?!' Bloomer didn't look at him, but he didn't respond either. 'You have to make things right for the sake of Trunks.'
'I don't want her around me.'
'This isn't about you, it's about Trunks.'
'You can take him if he wants to see her.'
'Her appointment is tomorrow,' Dr. Briefs sighed, 'we'll see her then.'
'I need to tell you something.' 18 said quietly as Krillin and Goku showed Marron how to block an energy blast.
Vegan turned to her as she put down her plate of dinosaur meat.
'What is it?' She asked.
'Bloomer and Yamcha are engaged.'
'So, he finally gave her the ring...'
'You knew?!'
'Trunks and I found it 3 months before the tournament.' Vegan muttered quietly as she picked up her plate. 'I do remember him mentioning wanting to marry her before they broke up.'
'Are you OK?'
Vegan shrugged. 'Does it matter?'
'Of course it matters!' Eighteen snapped. 'Are you ok?'
'As long as my baby is born healthy...' she rubbed her stomach. 'Nothing else matters.'
'What would you like to have?' Eighteen asked quickly.
'Kakarotto wants a boy... a little warrior.'
'I hope it's a little girl.' Eighteen touched her stomach. 'Just imagine how kick ass she's going to be!'
Vegan smiled and looked over at Kakarotto.
'It was would be nice to finally have a daughter...' she frowned. 'Do you remember when I told you about Olive?'
'The daughter you had with Nappa? The one that...' Eighteen stopped as Vegan turned away. 'Did you ever tell Goku about her?'
'Yes.'
'Goku wants to wait until your birthday to have the gender party.'
'I don't want them together.' She said quickly.
'Why not?'
'In case one of them is ruined.'
Eighteen sighed and shook head.
'I hadn't thought of that... you know, we'd have to invite him to your birthday party for Trunks' sake, but neither of them have come to the gender reveal...'
'Kakarotto wants to invite his children.'
'Let's start with your birthday first,' Eighteen said quietly, 'then we'll see...'
'That sounds reasonable...'
Bloomer didn't go to work the next day.
Or the day after that.
Or the next three days after...
'You haven't been to work in a few days,' asked his mother on the fifth day, 'are you sick?'
'Oh, no,' he said as she touched his face, 'I'm just... tired.'
'Planning a wedding will do that to you.' She said cheerfully, then frowned. 'I really hoped that you and Vegan would...' she stopped.
Bloomer glanced over at the photo on his desk, a picture of him, Trunks and Vegan taken before the tournament, he and Trunks looked ecstatic while Vegan had a vacant smile.
She seemed so detached that day...
Detached, until Goku arrived...
When he arrived, she was like a kid on Christmas morning...
They were running around laughing like old friends.
Or lovers...
She hadn't smiled like that in years...
Not for him anyway...
Not anymore...
Did she want him back then?
'So, when exactly are you getting married?'
Her voice made him jump, and he turned to her.
'I, uh... I don't know.'
'You and Yamcha should have a quiet ceremony, just family and friends. Winter would be perfect.'
'Why winter?'
'Why not winter? Winter wedding and spring honeymoon.'
'I want a spring wedding.'
'I see...'
She looked like all the gears were turning in her head, and that usually meant she was up to something.
'What?'
'What, what?' She said dismissively.
'What are you thinking about?' He demanded.
'Your wedding, silly.'
Bloomer frowned. 'Mother...'
'I think I going to take Trunks to see his mother.' She said.
'Isn't she coming here?'
She blinked in confusion. 'Why would she come come here?'
'For her doctor's appointment.'
'Why would she come here for that?'
'Isn't dad her doctor?'
'No, she and Goku decided that it would be best if she had another doctor. One from their village.'
'What?' Bloomer flared.
'She said it would be better if-'
'One of those hick doctors?!' Bloomer growled. 'They still use bloodletting and cocaine!'
'Son, I think you should let Vegan and Goku worry about their child.'
Bloomer looked away from her, scowling.
'Those two can barely take of themselves, let alone child.'
'Goku has always been a good father to his children-'
'When he's alive!' Bloomer snarled.
'And Vegan has always been a good mother. Vegan will make sure that the baby will be-'
'If she survives!' Bloomer turned to her.
'You don't think she can?' She said with a smile.
'Vegan's too stubborn to die.' He said quietly, smiling to himself.
'Vegan will be fine.'
'But it would be better for the baby if-'
'This is their child, not yours.'
Why did she have to say it like that?!
'I know that, but she is Trunks' mother-'
'And you should be Trunks' father.' She sighed. 'He should be your main concern.'
'He is-'
'Then leave Vegan alone. She's Goku's now. If anyone can keep her safe, it's him. Besides, you have a wedding to plan.'
Bloomer scowled, but continued to stare at the photo.
