Bella - BPOV

It's strange to hear Carlisle's voice over the phone as Demetri talks to him. I thought it would hurt me more, but I'm glad it doesn't. I wonder how the family will react when they see that I'm a vampire now. I smile and step into Demetri's arms after he finishes the call. I take in his scent and hug him tight; I love this man so much.

"Is everything okay, tesoro?"

"Yes, as long as you love me, everything is fine."

"No worries, amore mio. My love for you will never end."

I roll my eyes when I hear Alec mumbling something about 'being the only sane male around' and give Demetri a quick kiss. I walk over to the spot, where Felix put our duffel bags and move ours to the waiting SUV. The others follow my lead while Demetri calls Aro to confirm our arrival in the States.

Demetri - DPOV

I quickly brief Aro and he asks me to keep in close contact. It's strange because we've dealt with this sort of problem several times before, but he seems more anxious now that Bella is a part of the guard.

I smile as I imagine Aro as the concerned father. He never really saw any of us as his children, but it looks like Bella is bringing out a side of him that we never expected to see. I guarantee him that we will take care of each other, before ending the phone call. I look over to the car and roll my eyes as Felix yells.

"Get your ass into this car, Demetri. I want to see the faces of those bunny-lovers when they notice that Bella is a vampire. I bet Eddie boy is going to flip big time. Oh, can I take a picture of his face when you tell him that you married her?!"

Bella is trying to hold her laughter in the back seat but it failing miserably. Even Jane and Alec are grinning like fools at the image that Felix is painting. I get into the front seat and Felix speeds away. He will get us to Forks in record time.

It starts raining the moment we leave Seattle and I snicker when I hear Bella huff in annoyance. My Bella clearly loves the Italian sun more than the rain in the Continental US. The remainder of our drive to Forks is spent in comfortable silence. I just wish that Bella was sitting in my lap and not in the back next to Alec. As we reach the other edges of Forks, I say:

"Stop the car for a minute, Felix. Put your hoods up. I don't want Edward recognizing Bella before we even get out of the car. My mate deserves a proper introduction. Don't think of Bella, think of violence and bloodshed. That will keep him out of your head. He is convinced that we are monsters, so why not indulge him. Keep an eye on him the whole time. The masters are convinced that he is denying that Bella and I are mates. I don't want him near her, do I make myself clear?"

Felix, Alec, and Jane nod, but I can see the tension in Bella's eyes.

"Sorry, tesoro, but I need you to be safe. I don't mean to smother you, but the thought of losing you terrifies me."

"I'm not mad at you, Demi. I'm pissed at Edward for being a complete moron. I made it perfectly clear that I'm not in love with him anymore. God, I can't even think of a single reason why I ever thought I was. My heart belongs to you, only you."

I smile and blow her a kiss. My Bella is the most amazing woman in the whole world.

"You're mine as I'm yours, cara mia. Let's get this show on the road, shall we?"

Everyone nods and pulls up their hood. I keep mine down; Carlisle probably already told him that I was coming.

Bella – BPOV

It's so strange to be back in Forks, I really thought that I left this place behind me for good. I stare out of the window and wonder if I could visit Charlie's grave now that we are here. I wish that I could tell him in person how happy Demetri makes me and how I finally found my place in life. God, I miss him so much.

My attention is pulled back to the present the moment Felix turns into the Cullens' driveway. I look at the house that I once considered my home and see that all of the Cullens are standing outside. I take a deep unneeded breath and check my hood, before exiting the car. I take my place next to Jane, Alec, and Felix, with Demetri standing slightly in front of us.

I take a quick look at the Cullens while Demetri waits for Carlisle to speak up. I notice that Alice is clearly excited about something and I bet Jasper is using his gift to calm her down. Emmett keeps throwing glances at Felix and is probably wondering if he could take him down in a fight. Rosalie looks bored, but that's not new and Esme looking at Demetri questioningly.

Edward is standing in the back and he is glaring at Demetri with a murderous look in his eyes. He scowls when Carlisle says:

"Welcome to Forks, Demetri, we're glad that the Volturi agreed to help us with this newborn problem. Let me introduce my family to you and your fellow guard members. This is my mate Esme, my daughter Rose and her mate Emmett. You already met Alice, but I don't know if you know her mate Jasper?"

"I never had the pleasure of meeting the Major in person, but his story is well known in Volterra. It's an honor, Major."

I look up at Jasper and wonder what his story is. I must remember to ask Demetri to tell me later. I notice that Edward takes a few steps forward before Carlisle stops him.

"And of course, you already know Edward as well."

Demetri nods his head in agreement and looks directly at Edward. I suppress a purr as I look at my mate. His stance clearly shows that he's not someone you can mess with. Edward stands tall as well, but it not nearly as impressive. Demetri looks like a Greek warrior, my personal Ares. I bite back a moan as I imagine the possible role play. Demetri moves back to stand alongside the rest of us.

Demetri - DPOV

I keep my eyes fixed on the Cullens as I move back to stand alongside the rest of the guard. I position myself so that I'm able to intercept Edward if he decides to move toward my Bella. There's no way he is getting anywhere near her if I can help it.

I wonder why the mind-reader is not responding to my thoughts and then it hits me. He can't hear me anymore. I think of the moment that I changed my Bella and smirk when Edward doesn't respond at all. My Bella is a shield, everything points in that direction. Aro is going to be ecstatic.

"Carlisle, of course, you already know Felix, Alec, and Jane from your time in Volterra. I suspect their reputation is well known in our world, so I assume your family knows them as well."

The Cullens all nod and I watch while Felix, Alec, and Jane remove their hood. I'm interrupted when Emmett mumbles 'fucking hell, Aro send his best guards to help us'. Rosalie gives him a slap against the head and Emmett lets out a muffled groan. I can see Jane looking at Rosalie with a sense of respect. Carlisle takes a step forward and says:

"Please continue, Demetri. Emmett didn't mean to interrupt you."

"You also know our last member, Carlisle. You all know her quite well actually."

I watch while Bella takes down her hood as she moves to my side. There are various reactions on the side of the Cullens. Alice squeals in delight at the sight of Bella and Jasper is simply smiling. Carlisle, Esme, Rosalie, and Emmett gasp for unneeded air. I also notice venom tears pooling in Esme's eyes. Edward looks completely frozen in place and I wonder if vampires can go into shock. I pull Bella into my side and kiss to the top of her head.

"May I introduce my beloved mate and wife, Bella."

That sentence is enough to pull Edward from his trance and he starts growling at me. I move slightly in front of Bella as he drops into an offensive stance and yells:

"You changed her? You married her? You dare to kiss her? She's mine!"

The next moment Edward falls onto the ground writhing in pain. I count to ten slowly before interrupting Jane. Alec, Jane, and Felix move to flank me and Bella, in case Edward somehow manages to attack. I roar fearlessly and say:

"Carlisle, restrain your son. We're here to help, but we will not hesitate to kill him and leave you to fight this battle alone. He is to stay clear of Bella. She's mine as I'm hers. She's a Volturi now, we defend our own."

"We understand, Demetri. Edward is having a hard time accepting the fact that Bella is not his mate. We will make sure that he keeps his distance. Jasper, please take Edward inside."

We watch as Jasper drags Edward into the house. His body is still limp from Jane's attack.

Edward - EPOV

I don't believe it. My precious Bella is a vampire; she is now damned, just like the rest of us. Her pure soul lost forever. That monster changed her; he tasted her intoxicating blood. He is going to pay for that.

"Edward, control your anger. We need the Volturi's help. I will not have you endanger the rest of the family, simply because you can't accept the truth. Bella is not yours."

I hiss at Jasper and stare out of the window. I focus on the thoughts of my family members that are still standing outside and gasp for unneeded air when I see Bella through Esme's eyes. God, she is beautiful. Her eyes are red, but that's normal for someone this young. I already know that she will be even more beautiful with golden eyes. I imagine staring into those golden eyes and kissing her senseless, before making love to my Bella.

"Lust is also an emotion that I would not recommend in this situation, Edward. I just don't understand why you're having such a hard time with all of this. Bella loves Demetri. Her emotions are so clear. God, think about it! She married him! If that does not prove enough, I don't know what will."

I huff at his logic. She married him. So what? Bella is clearly confused. I just need to free her from those monsters and after some time she will see that she never stopped loving me. I hear Jasper sigh at my emotions and decide to ignore him. I continue to watch Bella through the eyes of my family outside while ignoring the things that are being said and think of the beautiful future that lies before us.

Bella - BPOV

I let my hand wander up and down Demetri's back as he tells Carlisle to keep his eldest son in check. The way Demetri moved in front of me to protect me, has me aroused to no end. I know that he can smell it by the smirk on his lips. We watch as Jasper takes Edward back into the house. A few minutes pass before Esme takes a step forward and says:

"Bella, sweetheart, is it really you?"

"Yes, Esme, it's me."

Esme surprises the hell out of me by falling to her knees as she starts to sob. Carlisle rushes to her side and pulls her closer. I look at him questioningly and he shakes his head. After a minute Esme looks up to me again and whispers:

"I'm so sorry, Bella. I failed you as a mother. We should have never left you. We made the wrong choice and that will haunt me forever."

I look straight into her eyes and realize that I don't see her as a mother anymore. It hurt when they all left without saying a word. And even though recent events shed a whole new light on that situation, the fact remained that they all left me behind without looking back. They left me alone while Laurent and Victoria were still out there, dead set on killing me. What kind of mother does that to her child?

"I was catatonic for months! I caused my own father and mother so much pain, just because I couldn't let go of the family that so easily left me behind. It took losing my real mother to realize that you weren't worthy of my love. She wasn't the best mom out there, but she loved me more than anything in this world and she would have never left me behind. She would have rather died herself.

I lost my entire family because your son grew tired of playing human. He broke my heart into a million pieces and left me behind. A clean break, that's what he called it. I helped Alice save his sorry ass because I know how much you love your precious son. You made that abundantly clear when you left me behind.

Alice already told me that Edward played you, but that doesn't change a damn thing. You made your own bed. I'm here now; because my masters send me, and I will leave for Italy the moment this mission is over. I will go home with my husband to my true family."

Demetri pulls me closer and places another kiss on my head. Esme and Emmett both look like I kicked their puppy, Carlisle looks a bit disappointed, and Rosalie has her usual bitch-look on. The only one that is still smiling is Alice. I look at her questioningly.

"I'm sorry that I listened to Edward when he told me not to look for your future anymore. I can never make that up to you, but I'm glad that you joined me on my quest to save Edward. It led you to your true mate and your real family. I've never seen a love as beautiful and pure as the love that you and Demetri share.

I kept a lot of visions to myself over the last few weeks. I wasn't going to let Edward ruin this wonderful love story. I saw your wedding, Bella. It was a vision of perfection. I know that Demetri will never hurt you, he loves you so much. I hope that one day you can call me your friend once again."

Alice stops talking and I give her a reassuring smile. I do believe that in time Alice and I can be friends again.

Demetri - DPOV

I can feel that Bella is getting restless. She still hates to be the center of attention and the negative past that the Cullens represent is getting to her. It's time to get to our accommodation and settle in.

"Carlisle, can you show us to the cabin? We would like to get settled in."

"Of course, Alice will show you. I hope that it's to your liking. If not, there is a decent hotel in Port Angeles."

"We'll meet tomorrow at nine a.m. to go over the battle plan; the major is welcome to join this meeting."

I don't wait for Carlisle's answer as I nod to Alice to lead the way. Felix quickly grabs our bags out of the car and the five of us run after Alice to the cabin. When we arrive, I hear Bella mutter something under her breath like 'yeah, only they would call this a cabin' and I let out a snicker. Alice looks at Bella with a knowing smile and says:

"We only use this rather large cabin when the Denalis come to visit. There are four separate bedrooms and a very large living room. You should find everything you need during your stay right there. Will this be okay, Demetri?"

"Yes, it will do nicely. Thank you, Alice."

"No problem, I will leave you to settle in. I'm glad you're all here."

She runs off before any of us can respond and we move inside the cabin. Felix and Alec crash in front of the television while Bella and Jane take a look around. I pick up our bag and follow my wife to one of the larger bedrooms. I drop the bag on the floor and pull her into my arms. I sigh happily as Bella moves her hands to my hair and pulls me closer for a kiss.

"I love you, amore mio, with all that I am."

"I love you too, Demi, more than you will ever know. Make love to me, Demi."

"Con piacere, cara mia. With pleasure, my love."

Carlisle - CPOV

I sigh as I see the guard following Alice to the cabin. Our Bella is a vampire and an extraordinary one at that. Her control is exceptional, I wonder if Jasper has ever seen a newborn with that level of control. I walk into the house and join Esme, Emmett, and Rose in the living room. Esme hurries to my side and I pull her in for a hug.

"Oh my god, Carlisle, Bella is right. What kind of parents leaves their child behind? What were we thinking? Our daughter hates us."

We all look up as Alice enters the living room.

"Bella doesn't hate us, Esme. She's very angry with us, she hates Edward though. Carlisle, we need to keep him away from Bella. She's so happy now; we can't let him take that away from her."

A loud growl surprises us all and we turn to see Edward standing at the top of the stairs. His eyes are pitch-black and his gaze is focused on Alice. Jasper comes running from his study and I yell at him:

"Jasper! Calm him down now!"

Before Jasper can act, Edward lets out a deafening roar and attacks Alice, yelling:

"You! Traitor!"
