Chapter eight: The school festival, showdown

The school festival over at Faerun High had gotten off to a little bit of a rocky start for the A-1 and B-1 classes, who are working together to throw a Heroic Figures tournament that even the students visiting from Faerun Magnet could enter. The reason for said rocky start is due to how some boys, led by a short boy named Mineta who entered the tournament, were being a bit on the lewd side of things.

It got to the point where Izuku's classmate Yaoyorozu, who got into Heroic Figures in a bid to impress Yosetsu of class B-1, decided to challenge Mineta, on the condition that he and his fellows would behave themselves if Yaoyorozu won. Despite how she was still new to the game, Yaoyorozu was a bit confident, and after seeing Mineta's party, she figured she'd have a shot at doing at least some damage.

Indeed, as the two players got set up, Mineta's fellows saw sight of the party of figures that Yaoyorozu had. "...Dude, this girl has a lot of top ten figures," the first fellow said to a second in a whisper, "Mineta might be in a lot of trouble."

The second fellow saw it when Yaoyorozu had a bit of a fumble when trying to set something up for her party, although she quickly recovered. "...She's a noob, although pretty hot for one," the second fellow whispered back, "Mineta's been playing for a while, so he's got the experience edge on the hot noob."

Over where all of Yaoyorozu's friends were watching, Uraraka said with a bit of worry in her tone, "You guys, do you think Yaoyorozu can do this?"

"She's strong, and she has picked up some of what I've been teaching her," Izuku said, "She's going to be fi-"

"Hey, what's going on here?" a male voice said to Izuku and the others. They all turned and saw Yosetsu and Juzo from class B-1 come over, with Juzo having been the one to speak up. "Is that Yaoyorozu playing Heroic Figures?" Juzo asked, "I had no idea she was into it."

Gesturing to the scene before them, Izuku proceeded to explain, "She got into it recently, although her party is all at max level. And now she's fighting that lewd guy from Faerun Magnet in a bid to get him and his fellows to behave."

Yosetsu looked over, saw the respective parties of Yaoyorozu and Mineta. "...Yaoyorozu's got four of the top ten figures in her party, and one of them is All Might. Meanwhile that short dude's party is overall rather frail, with four of his figures at max level having a max HP of under 3000." The boy from B-1 allowed himself a smirk. "Yaoyorozu's gonna cream him."

"You know, Yosetsu," Shinso began, an amused look in his face, "Yaoyorozu actually got into the game hoping to impress you." Yosetsu went a bit wide-eyed at that revelation. "Yeah. This may come as a surprise, but she's got it bad for you."

Shrugging, Yosetsu said, "...Huh. You don't say."

Over at the TV where the Heroic Figures game was playing, Yaoyorozu and Mineta got ready, and their respective parties of six heroes appeared in an expansive and top end looking office room at the very top of an office building, with the darkness coming in from the windows suggesting that it was nighttime. After the parties appeared, the players were prompted to pick their team's respective leaders.

"Team A leader is Majestic!" the game announced, "Team B leader is Uwabami!"

"Again with picking Majestic as her team's leader," Todoroki said in a mildly confused tone.

Shrugging, Izuku said, "Well he is Yaoyorozu's favorite character in the game. Can you blame her for letting her preferences dictate her choices?" With everything else taken care of, the fight in Heroic Figures between Yaoyorozu and Mineta began.

The first thing that occurred was bar that said Leader Ability: Mystic Might appearing over Majestic. The game then showed colored lights fly up around all of the heroes on Yaoyorozu's team. Ingenium's quirk attack rose. All Might's quirk attack rose. Mirko's quirk attack rose. Endeavor's quirk attack rose. Majestic's quirk attack rose. Yoroi Musha's quirk attack rose. Then, another bar appeared over Majestic that said Ability: Arcane Surge before colored lights flew up from Mystic. Majestic's quirk attack rose.

"Izuku advised to take Midnight out first," Yaoyorozu thought as she and Mineta inputted orders to their respective teams, "So that's what I'll do." Once the orders were in, the first turn of the fight began in earnest. The first thing to occur was Ingenium taking aim at Midnight as text at the bottom of the screen said Ingenium used Idaten Burst! Ingenium was shown rushing at Midnight really quickly, smacking into her front first with the whole force of his entire body and making a splat that said 520 fly up from Midnight. Midnight took 520 damage.

Next, All Might was shown taking aim at Midnight as text at the bottom of the screen said All Might used Carolina Smash! All Might rushed Midnight with his arms crossed, then when he reached her dealt a cross-chop that made a splat that said 1050 fly up from Midnight. Midnight takes 1050 damage.

Next, Mineta's Mirko was shown taking aim at Majestic as text at the bottom of the screen said Mirko used Luna Ring! Mirko was shown spinning in cartwheels through the air as she flew at Majestic, striking him three times with her feet when she reached him and making splats that said 345, 341 and 343 fly up from him. Majestic takes a combined 1029 damage. Yaoyorozu scoffed a bit in annoyance when the lewd pervert scored a hit on her favorite character.

Luckily for the wealthy girl, her Mirko was next in the turn order. Yaoyorozu's Mirko was shown taking aim at Midnight as text at the bottom of the screen said Mirko used Luna Fall! Mirko jumped up, seemingly flew at Midnight, and struck her with a kick to her head from above, her heel leading the way. Midnight was struck as a splat that said 784 flew up from her. Midnight took 784 damage.

Next, Endeavor was shown crossing his arms in front of his chest before making a crossing chop motion as he threw out thin lines of fire that flew towards everyone in Mineta's party. Endeavor used Hell Spider! The thin lines of fire slammed into all of the lady heroes that were on the other team, making splats that said 401, 385, 422, 413, 423 and 399 respectively fly up from Mt. Lady, Mirko, Midnight, Uwabami, Sirius and Burnin, with Midnight's HP bar having been wholly depleted. Uwabami and company takes an average of 407 damage.

Midnight was then shown holding the back of her right hand to her forehead as she looked faint, before falling over onto her left side as she exploded into blue sparkly lights. Midnight was defeated! "Alright! Yaoyorozu scored the first kill!" Mina cheered from where she, Izuku and the others were watching the fight. Izuku nodded in agreement, happy to see that Yaoyorozu had gotten a bit of an early lead.

After Endeavor was Majestic, who took aim at Mineta's Mirko as text at the bottom of the screen said Majestic used Ring Rush! Majestic conjured a ring of glowing energy that he then cast at Mirko, striking her with a forceful hit that made a splat that said 599 fly up from her. Mirko took 599 damage. After that, Sirius was shown taking aim at Majestic as text at the bottom of the screen said Sirius used Sailor Strike!

Sirius was shown rushing at Majestic, then when she got close enough she spun around to her right and struck Majestic with an elbow strike with her left elbow, making a splat that said 388 fly up from him. Majestic took 388 damage. "Her Majestic is down to a little under half health, guys," Izuku said to his friends in a worried tone.

"Yeah, I'm highly doubting that Majestic is going to make it past the first turn," Tenya commented, "That Mineta fellow is clearly trying to eliminate him because he's the leader of Yaoyorozu's party, probably because he wants to try to demoralize her. It's similar to the tactics that Monoma employs."

Next in the game, Burnin was shown taking aim at Majestic as text at the bottom of the screen said Burnin used Burning Bash! Burnin was then shown running towards Majestic then, when she got close enough, she jumped up and spun around while she was bending over a bit, making it look like she was using her fanny to strike Majestic, making a splat that said 301 fly up from him. Majestic took 301 damage.

Next, Yoroi Musha was shown taking aim at Mt. Lady as text at the bottom of the screen said Yoroi Musha used Bushido Blade! The armored hero ran at Mt. Lady as he drew his blade, then dealt a swift strike at Mt. Lady that made a splat that said 448 fly up from her. Mt. Lady took 448 damage. Mt. Lady was then shown taking aim at Majestic as text at the bottom of the screen said Mt. Lady used Titan Stomp!

Mt. Lady was shown striding towards Majestic and when she got close enough, she lifted a foot up and stomped at Majestic, making a splat that said 499 fly up from him. Majestic took 499 damage. Finally, Uwabami was able to go, taking aim at Majestic as text at the bottom of the screen said Uwabami used Celebrity Slap! Uwabami simply ran at Majestic and dealt him a slap with the back of her right hand, making a splat that said 322 fly up from him. Majestic took 322 damage. His HP bar was dangerously low, but Majestic was still able to fight.

"Huh, I guess that I was wrong," Tenya said, "My guess is that Yaoyorozu taking out Midnight before she could attack really helped. Then, on the TV screen that the game was happening on, an image of a big meal appeared over Majestic as a healing splat that said 500 flew up from him while text at the bottom of the screen said Majestic's support item Big Banquet restored some of his health!

"That's the same support item that Samidare has equipped to his Fat Gum figure," Tsuyu remarked.

Nodding in confirmation, Izuku said, "Yeah, it's a popular support item disk among those still very few who actually bother with using support item disks. I figured that Yaoyorozu would be able to make use of some form of healing."

After the first turn had finished, Yaoyorozu and Mineta put in their orders for the next turn of attacks. When they were done with that, the second turn started up. It began with seeing Ingenium taking aim at Mineta's Mirko as text at the bottom of the screen said Ingenium used Idaten Strike!

Ingenium rushed at Mineta's Mirko, then dealt a two part attack where he struck with his left elbow then raised his left fist up quickly to smack Mirko with the back of his left fist. Although the attack looked like it dealt two hits, it wasn't really a multi-hit attack; a single splat that said 414 flew up from Mineta's Mirko. Mirko took 414 damage. Next, All Might took aim at Mineta's Mirko as text at the bottom of the screen said All Might used Texas Smash!

All Might ran at Mineta's Mirko and dealt her a devastating punch that made 1084 fly up from her. Mirko took 1084 damage. Next, Yaoyorozu's Mirko won the speed tie and took aim at Mineta's Mirko as text at the bottom of the screen said Mirko used Luna Ring! Yaoyorozu's Mirko was shown spinning in cartwheels through the air as she flew at Mineta's Mirko, striking her three times with her feet when she reached her and making splats that said 686, 349 and 339 fly up from her, with the 686 splat registering as a critical hit. Additionally, the HP bar on Mineta's Mirko was depleted.

Critical hit! Mirko takes a combined 1374 damage. Mineta's Mirko was then shown going through her defeat animation before exploding into blue sparkly lights. Mirko was defeated! "Wow, she's doing pretty good," Shinso muttered to Todoroki in a knowing tone, "It's like she's playing like she's Izuku." Todoroki nodded in agreement.

Next, Endeavor was shown was shown crossing his arms in front of his chest before making a crossing chop motion as he threw out thin lines of fire that flew towards everyone in Mineta's party. Endeavor used Hell Spider! The thin lines of fire slammed into the remaining four lady heroes that were on the other team, making splats that said 399, 417, 425 and 387 respectively fly up from Mt. Lady, Uwabami, Sirius and Burnin. Uwabami and company takes an average of 407 damage.

After that, Majestic was shown taking aim at Uwabami as text at the bottom of the screen said Majestic used Ring Rush! Majestic then conjured a ring of glowing energy that he then cast at Uwabami, striking her with a forceful hit that made a splat that said 622 fly up from her. Uwabami took 622 damage. Following that was Sirius taking aim at Majestic as text at the bottom of the screen said Sirius used Sailor Strike!

Once again, Sirius was shown rushing at Majestic, then when she got close enough she spun around to her right and struck Majestic with an elbow strike with her left elbow, making a splat that said 379 fly up from him. Majestic took 379 damage. After that, the game showed Burnin taking aim at Majestic as text at the bottom of the screen said Burnin used Burning Bash!

Burnin was then shown running towards Majestic then, when she got close enough, she jumped up and spun around while she was bending over a bit, making it look like she was using her fanny to strike Majestic, making a splat that said 299 fly up from him. Majestic took 299 damage. "Yeah, now Yaoyorozu's party leader is going to go down," Tenya said, "It looks like he has under one-hundred HP left."

"Yeah, I'd certainly say so," Juzo said as he and the others watched on, "But still for someone who is still very new to the game, she's doing alright in PVP."

Yosetsu looked on as the girl he now knew was in love with him fought against a troublemaker. "...Yeah, she's not bad at all."

After Burnin had attacked, Yoroi Musha was shown taking aim at Burnin as text at the bottom of the screen said Yoroi Musha used Kendo Cutter! Yoroi Musha stood in a kendo pose, holding his sword before him, then swinging it around a bit, before the game immediately cut to Burnin getting hit three times, with splats that said 504, 499 and 502 flying up from her. Burnin takes a combined 1505 damage.

"She's got a third hero on that pervert's team almost dead," Uraraka remarked, sounding hopeful that Yaoyorozu was going to win. Immediately after Uraraka said that, however, Mt. Lady in the game was shown taking aim at Majestic as text at the bottom of the screen said Mt. Lady used Canyon Cannon! Mt. Lady turned so that her left side was to Majestic, she leaned on her right leg as if to kick off, then she pushed herself off, let left foot leading the way as she ended up striking Majestic, making a splat that said 530 fly up from him, depleting the rest of his HP bar.

Majestic took 530 damage. The game then showed Majestic going through his defeat animation before he exploded into blue sparkly lights. Majestic was defeated! Yaoyorozu was annoyed that Mineta had taken out her favorite character, but she wasn't going to let that stop her from giving him the beating he had coming. Speaking of beating, in the game Uwabami was shown taking aim at All Might as text at the bottom of the screen said Uwabami used Celebrity Slap!

Uwabami ran at All Might and dealt him a slap with the back of her right hand, making a splat that said 199 fly up from him. All Might took 199 damage. It was a very small bit off of the HP bar boasted by the single strongest character in the game that players could use. After that, Yaoyorozu was prompted by the game to make one of her remaining heroes her team leader. After the choice was made, All Might was shown flexing his arms in an animation as text at the bottom of the screen said All Might was made the new leader of Team A!

"Oh, so NOW she makes All Might the leader of her party," Todoroki said, with Shinso nodding in agreement with him. Both boys still looked a bit annoyed with Yaoyorozu.

The next turn began, and it started with Ingenium taking aim at Mt. Lady as text at the bottom of the screen said Ingenium used Idaten Burst! Ingenium was shown rushing at Mt. Lady really quickly, smacking into her front first with the whole force of his entire body and making a splat that said 483 fly up from her. Mt. Lady took 483 damage.

After that, All Might was shown taking aim at Mt. Lady as text at the bottom of the screen said All Might used Carolina Smash! All Might rushed Mt. Lady with his arms crossed, then when he reached her dealt a cross-chop that made a splat that said 1009 fly up from her. Mt. Lady takes 1009 damage. "So she's trying to focus on eliminating Mt. Lady next," Tenya remarked in a curious tone, "Maybe because it was Mt. Lady who took out Majestic?"

"Or perhaps it's because Mt. Lady is the overall toughest hero on that short dude's team that's still able to fight," Shinso offered dryly. Next, and to the surprised interest of Izuku and the others, Yaoyorozu's Mirko was taking aim at Sirius as text at the bottom of the screen said Mirko used Luna Ring! Mirko was then shown spinning in cartwheels through the air again as she flew at Sirius.

When she reached Sirius, Mirko struck her three times with her feet when she reached her, making splats that said 512, 519 and 515 fly up from her. Sirius takes a combined 1546 damage. Next, Endeavor was shown was shown crossing his arms in front of his chest before making a crossing chop motion as he threw out thin lines of fire that flew towards everyone in Mineta's party.

Endeavor used Hell Spider! The thin lines of fire slammed into the remaining four lady heroes that were on the other team, making splats that said 392, 422, 421 and 395 respectively fly up from Mt. Lady, Uwabami, Sirius and Burnin, with the HP bar on Sirius being fully depleted. Uwabami and company takes an average of 407 damage. Sirius was then seen going through her defeat animation, holding her arms in front of her with clenched fists under her chin as she looked down while falling to her knees as she exploded into blue sparkly lights. Sirius was defeated!

"She's got half of that lewd jerk's party down!" Uraraka said excitedly, "And two of his heroes look about dead! Yaoyorozu is actually doing it!"

"I'd say she can certainly give Monoma a run for his money now," Izuku commented, proud to see that his classmate had clearly retained what he had taught her about Heroic Figures. After Endeavor had attacked, Burnin was seen taking aim at Ingenium as text at the bottom of the screen said Burnin used Burning Bash!

Burnin was shown running towards Ingenium, when she got close enough, she jumped up and spun around while she was bending over a bit, making it look like she was using her fanny to strike Ingenium, making a splat that said 252 fly up from him. Ingenium took 252 damage. "He had Burnin attack Ingenium?" Tenya said in a curious tone, "I thought that Mineta focused solely on taking out enemy leaders first, like what Monoma does."

"Well All Might took that attack from Uwabami before he was made the leader of Yaoyorozu's party," Izuku pointed out, "Maybe because all attacks were actually aimed at Majestic and he went down before Uwabami could attack, so the game's AI took over and had Uwabami attack All Might at random."

"So if that's the case, then why is Mineta targeting Ingenium?" Todoroki asked as everyone looked on as the game continued. Yoroi Musha was shown facing down Uwabami as text at the bottom of the screen said Yoroi Musha used Kendo Cutter! Yoroi Musha once again stood in a kendo pose, holding his sword before him, then swinging it around a bit. The game cut to show Uwabami getting hit three times, with splats that said 482, 478 and 479 flying up from her, with the rest of her HP bar being depleted. Uwabami takes a combined 1439 damage.

The game then showed Uwabami going through her defeat animation before she exploded into blue sparkly lights. Uwabami was defeated! After Uwabami went down, Mt. Lady was shown taking aim at Ingenium as text at the bottom of the screen said Mt. Lady used Titan Stomp!

Mt. Lady was shown striding towards Ingenium, and when she got close enough she lifted a foot up and stomped at Ingenium, making a splat that said 421 fly up from him. Ingenium took 421 damage. "So he is targeting Ingenium," Izuku said, "Wouldn't he want to target and take out a much more threatening hero on Yaoyorozu's team like All Might first?"

"Most teams that have All Might on them usually can't be taken out unless it's by another team with a comparable or greater level of power," Shinso pointed out, "It's not exactly uncommon for some players of Heroic Figures to believe that a team with All Might on it can only be defeated by another team with All Might on it." Shinso turned to look at where Yaoyorozu was playing against Mineta. "...The short dude probably realized that he just can't beat Yaoyorozu, so he's trying to do as much damage as he can before he goes down."

Izuku understood that idea; whenever he played Heroic Figures, he usually tries to take out whatever hero on the enemy team he feels would be the biggest threat to his party, changing who he targets as he plays if he feels threat levels shift. However, when he plays against folks like Monoma, who always field parties full of some of the very strongest characters in the game, Izuku switches to trying to do as much damage as possible before he loses to players who are just too strong.

Over at the game, after orders were issued by Yaoyorozu and Mineta to their respective parties, Mt. Lady was shown giving off a flirty wink in an animation as text at the bottom of the screen said Mt. Lady was made the new leader of Team B! After that, the next turn began, with the first thing being Ingenium taking aim at Burnin as text at the bottom of the screen said Ingenium used Idaten Strike!

Ingenium rushed at Burnin, then dealt a one part attack that looked like a two part attack where he struck with his left elbow then raised his left fist up quickly to smack Burnin with the back of his left fist, making a splat that said 487 flew up from Burnin, also taking out the rest of her HP bar. Burnin took 487 damage. Burnin was then shown going through her defeat animation, which looked a lot like Sirius's defeat animation except Burnin looked both a lot cuter and also slightly sadder at the same time as she exploded into blue sparkly lights. Burnin was defeated!

Then, All Might took aim at Mt. Lady as text at the bottom of the screen said All Might used Texas Smash! All Might ran at Mt. Lady and dealt her a devastating punch that made 1200 fly up from her, taking out the rest of her HP bar. Mt. Lady took 1200 damage. Mt. Lady was then shown going through her defeat animation, where she fell to one knee while kicking up a cloud of dust due to being giant (really just twice as tall as the average character) before falling over onto her right as she exploded into blue sparkly lights. Mt. Lady was defeated!

Yaoyorozu's team, with Majestic seen reappearing and getting back up, was then shown looking like they were cheering. "Team A wins!" the game announced. As Yaoyorozu was declared the winner, everyone aside from Mineta and his fellows were loudly cheering. As for the wealthy girl herself, she had a bit of a surprised look on her face; even though she was getting confident near the end there, she still couldn't believe that she won.

"...Will this be enough to impress Awase-kun?" Yaoyorozu wondered, her eyes stealing a glance at Yosetsu and seeing, to her beat-skipping heart, that he was looking at her, cheering for her as she had won.

Mineta and his fellows did indeed keep their attitudes to themselves, at least giving them some credit as guys of their word. The tournament, with Hizashi-sensei cosplaying as Present Mic serving as the host, proceeded to go on as planned. What really amazed everyone watching was when Yaoyorozu actually defeated Monoma in round one (they were paired to face each other due to having similar levels of power in their respective teams, as well as being the only ones in the tournament using All Might).

Izuku's round one opponent was Mineta, and although he had a bit of trouble since he couldn't take Midnight out before she put one of his heroes to sleep, he still defeated the short lewd boy from Faerun Magnet. Eventually, the green-haired boy made it to the final round, where he was facing Yaoyorozu. However, to Izuku's and everyone else's surprise, after the fight started in the game, Yaoyorozu's entire team was shown turning around and running away, with the game announcing, "Team B fled! Team A wins!"

"Yaoyorozu is surrendering?" Izuku thought, looking surprised and confused.

...

"Yeah," a bashful looking Yaoyorozu admitted when Izuku and his group of friends confronted her after the tournament was wrapped up, "It turns out that me putting that pervert in his place, as well as finally ending Monoma's winning streak here at school, was sufficient to impress Awase-kun." Blushing a bit harder, Yaoyorozu added, "Also, it turned out that Awase-kun actually has crush on me in return. We're actually dating now."

As Uraraka and Tsuyu cheered for Yaoyorozu's success in her love life, Todoroki said dryly, "You do realize that you scoring all of your wins today, both in Heroic Figures and in finally getting the guy, are wins you owe to Izuku, right?"

"Yeah," Shinso said, agreeing with Todoroki, "You wouldn't have done it without him."

Yaoyorozu nodded in acknowledgement. "Yes, I know full well I was finally able to get together with Awase-kun thanks to Izuku." Turning to face Izuku, Yaoyorozu nodded in thanks as she said, "Thank you."

"I'm still amazed that I won the tournament," Izuku remarked, "Even though it was due to you yielding the match to me." Yaoyorozu nodded in understanding before she took her leave to go find Yosetsu. After she was gone, Izuku and his friends were met up by Hizashi and Aizawa, the former still in his Present Mic costume.

Pointing in the direction Yaoyorozu was taking off in, Aizawa asked in a casual and mildly friendly tone, "What was that about?"

"She was thanking Izuku for helping her to get with her crush, dad," Shinso explained.

"Ah, even on the field of gaming battle, true love can still bloom," Hizashi said as he gushed a little over Yaoyorozu finally getting together with Yosetsu.

Turning to look at his co-worker and friend, Aizawa said dryly, "You look obscene."

Pointing at his hair that was still styled up to somewhat resemble a banana, Hizashi shot back with equal dryness, "The amount of hair gel I had to use to get my hair like this is obscene."

Author's notes;

This chapter was a bit longer than I expected, but I was still able to cram in everything I wanted into this chapter. The school festival arc is done, and Yaoyorozu is now dating Yosetsu. I even was able to get a bit of humor out of Hizashi, having him dress up like his other self from the series proper. Anyway, the next arc is going to be spent getting certain things established, so the action may slow a bit.
