Jaden rotated his key in the door. There was a clunk as the lock withdrew. Alexis was stood behind him shivering in the cold evening air, still wearing his jacket. Removing the key, Jaden pulled the handle down and opened the door. Warm air raced out of the house as both hurried inside, before Jaden slammed the door shut quickly. The letterbox covers on either side of the door rattled as the door slammed shut.
Flicking off his shoes in the usual spot, Jaden looked over at Alexis. She was busy looking around the hallway of the house, before she removed her shoes, leaving them beside his.
They were suddenly greeted by a loud meowing noise, before the culprit squeezed through the gap in between the frame and door that lead to the kitchen. Pharaoh.
"Looks like he's hungry, Lex. I'll feed him, you can 'ead up to my room and get warm."
As Jaden wandered to the kitchen with Pharaoh in pursuit, Alexis slowly climbed the stairs, feeling returning to her fingers in the warmth. Reaching the top of the stairs, she saw the layout of the first floor. Directly in front of her was a door, while over her left shoulder another three doors ran along a perpendicular wall. The door in front of her was slightly ajar revealing red walls covered with posters of Yugi and Kaiba. Guessing this was Jaden's room, she stepped inside. The room was lit by a small bedside lamp, emitting gentle yellowy light. Placing her bag on the floor, she shivered again, still trying to warm herself after the cold walk.
She suddenly felt two arms wrapped around her stomach, while a chin leant on her left shoulder. She jumped slightly before realising what it was.
"You ok Lex?" Jaden asked, nervously.
"You were quicker than I expected. You shocked me," she said as she spun on the spot the face him, his hands now on the small of her back. Her arms moved around his neck, her forehead leaning against his, their eyes meeting. Before she knew it, her lips were against his. One kiss turned to two, to three and more. Her fingers played with the hair at the base of his neck. After a few seconds, she pulled away staring into his eyes again.
"Jay you're amazing," she said smiling, causing him to follow suit.
"I activate Mirror Gate," he responded cheekily, causing Alexis to smirk. Jaden chuckled at this, before quickly kissing her lips.
"Lex you look cold, lemme grab a towel and you can jump in the shower," he said before releasing his hold around her waist. Alexis freed him from her arms, watching him wander out of the room. A minute later, he returned with a large fluffy towel, handing it to her.
"Shower's second door down."
She leant forwards and kissed his cheek before grabbing a few items from her bag and wandered from the room. Jaden flopped on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Not really concentrating, Jaden heard padded footsteps approach him, before Alexis appeared in his field of vision. She was dressed in the same nightshirt from the previous evening, carrying her clothes and borrowed towel and jacket. The ends of her hair were wet, though the rest of her hair was dry. She placed the towel and clothes on her bag, before noticing Jaden watching her.
"Hey you," she said smiling at him.
He sprang to his feet, stopping in front of her, returning her smile.
"Hey Lex."
He stepped closer to her, his hands going to her hips. Her left hand went to his cheek, rubbing her thumb back and forth gently. He felt a dampness to her touch but didn't care. She leant forwards to kiss him, her right hand moving to hold his other cheek. She could feel his lips moving gently against hers, making each kiss more passionate than the last. Alexis broke away for air, feeling high on the sweetness of his lips. His brown eyes watched her caringly, as he spoke.
"I'll jump in the shower quickly."
"Don't be too long," she replied teasingly.
He didn't reply, instead he kissed her cheek before walking from the room. Alexis moved to his bed, perching on the edge, unsure if she should lie down. Looking around, taking in the style, she grinned seeing the vast array of red in the room. He certainly did like the colour red. Something caught her eye on the chest at the end of the bed, lay on the storage chest. A binder. Flipping it open expecting it to contain cards, she found something completely different. Photos of the group; most were from the final year, though there were a few with Chumley in. Memories of times long ago washed over her, as she flicked through the pages. One page caught her eye; they were all of her. The graduation photo of her, Syrus and Chazz, a few that Blair had taken of her and Jaden, and one of them winning the tag duel tournament. Folding the page over, she saw a mixture of post-graduation photo, with most being of Syrus, Aster and Chazz in the Pro League. There was one of Jim and Shirley and another of Bastion in a lab coat carrying out an experiment, both cut from magazines. Even when he wasn't around, Jaden obviously still cared about his friends' and their achievements.
Before she could turn the page, she heard Jaden walk back into the room now dressed in a pair of red pyjama bottoms, revealing his toned upper body.
"Jay, not that I'm complaining but won't you get cold only wearing that?" She asked.
"Nah I'll be ok, don't worry Lex," he replied smiling, blissfully unaware of the full meaning of her comment.
As he wandered over to her and sat down next to her, he noticed the open binder. His face changed to look slightly embarrassed. She giggled at his reaction, before kissing his cheek.
"I think it's cute," she said smiling, while looking into his eyes. His expression softened, glad of her reaction. He kissed her forehead gently.
"So how did you get all the photos?" she asked, as he flopped backwards before shifting himself to lie properly on the bed.
"I had most of 'em from graduation, though the recent ones I found where I could," he replied. As he spoke, Alexis moved herself over to him, cuddling up to his right side leaning her head on his collarbone.
"When was the last time you saw anyone?" she asked, as she placed her hand on his chest.
"Erm... When I saw Jess after... You know..." he replied. Alexis heard the mixture of disappointment and regret. Rotating her head, she kissed his jaw.
"Jay you know it's ok. And they all ask about you, well except Chazz. You know what he's like."
Jaden said nothing, thinking about his friends. Alexis noticed the pained expression on his face, moving her hand to his cheek. Gently she moved his head to look at her, as she looked deeply into his eyes.
"They miss you, just as I did. You make everything more interesting. Like that duel you had against Dimitri in first year. It's not often you see someone duel Yugi's deck, let alone beat it."
His expression softened, almost smiling.
"And the duel against Crowler in third year. We'd not seen you in weeks but without you, I don't think Crowler would have let us graduate. Though I still don't know how he made you do all the work," she continued, teasing him.
A small smirk spread across Jaden's face.
"Jay…?"
"Yeah Lex?"
"You're unusually quiet. Everything ok?" She asked concerned, moving herself closer to him. Her head now leaning into his neck.
"Just thinkin'… I couldn't 'ave done it without you," he replied, seeming distant. Seeing the confusion on her face, he continued.
"The tag duel against Hassleberry and Blair. You made me realise I wasn't myself."
He kissed her forehead in appreciation of this.
"Well, I'm glad it did, I missed how nothing got you down and you smiled your way through things." She replied. As she thought back to the time, she remembered her poor attempt at telling him how she felt at the time. She heard him ask her something but wasn't concentrating, too focused on the memory.
"Lex?"
"Mmm…?" she replied, snapping back to the real world.
"What you thinkin' about?"
"Remember after that duel, we spoke outside your dorm…?"
"Yeah?"
"I tried to tell you how I felt," she explained embarrassed, burying her face in his neck.
She felt his hand on her shoulder, rolling her to look at him. He moved forwards to kiss her lips. The embarrassment and memory faded as she got lost in his kiss. Even though the kiss was only a second long, she felt better, free of the negative thoughts. Seeing her smiling, Jaden smiled back at him, glad she was ok.
"Remember our first duel?" he asked, trying to change the subject.
"You mean our only duel?" She corrected.
"We only duelled once?"
She could hear the shock in his voice, causing her to giggle.
"Well apart from the one where I wasn't me, yes. So you owe me one, ok big guy?"
"Definitely Lex," he replied, before kissing her again. "You impressed me with that duel you know?"
"I know we said I'd report you, but I don't think I could if I had won."
"Why's that Lex?"
"There was something special about you, just took me a while to work it out," she replied smiling, before kissing his check. His characteristic smile spread across his face, causing her to giggle.
"Jay I love you."
Before she could carry on, her lips were stopped by the gentle kiss of his. She felt the words melt away in her mind as she kissed him. The kiss spiralled into multiple. Her hands pulled him closer, with one on the back of his head, fingers running through his hair. The other hand remained on his chest, holding herself steady. Her right leg was resting over his, allowing her to get as close as possible. She felt a hand on the skin of her right thigh, and another on her back, both supporting her as they kissed. She could feel the warm of his skin through the thin material of her nightshirt. She didn't want this moment to end, but her lungs were crying out for oxygen. She broke away from the kiss, and opened her eyes. Jaden looked back at her, his eyes twinkling. Even though he'd not said it back, she could tell by his kiss what he was thinking.
"I know," she said, replying to his thoughts. She didn't expect him to be able to quantify his feelings. He was still raw to the whole emotional feelings and she wanted him to not feel pressured or guilty.
A smile spread across his lips, as he watched her leaning over him. She felt herself yawn, causing him to do the same. Lowering herself down, she cuddled up to his warmth again.
"I feel tired Jay. I think I'm going to sleep. Today was amazing," she explained.
He pulled the blanket from beside him over both of them. Alexis kissed his cheek gently, before closing her eyes.
"Night Lex," he replied, kissing her forehead gently.
"Night..." she mumbled, as she drifted off to sleep.
Jaden, trying not to disturb her, reached over and flicked the switch for the lamp, sending the room into darkness. He closed his heavy eyes, and drifted off to sleep with her in his arms.
