Chapter 6

Silentstorm and I were headed out to train some. It was much later than we usually went out, Silentstorm had slept late. That wasn't at all like her. I was worried about her. I know how awfully she processes and handles emotions. With Songheart sick, it doesn't surprise me that Silentstorm is a little off. She may not act like she cares, but she does. A lot.

"Let's begin, shall we?" Silentstorm said after arrival.

I swiped at her, but there was no contact. I heard a leaf crunch behind me. I kicked backward, hitting her this time, and pivoted on my front paw. I felt her jump on top of me, but used her momentum to flip over on top of her. I stood up and had Silentstorm pinned. I had Silentstorm pinned? Something's up.

"Okay, Silentstorm. What's wrong? And don't you dare tell me nothing," I said, getting off her.

"What are you talking about?" she asked.

"I beat you," I said.

"So?" she asked, irritation evident.

"I never beat you. Something's definitely wrong," I said.

"So you've improved," she said.

"It's okay if you're worried," I told her. "I am too."

"I don't have emotions," Silentstorm stated.

"That's a load of fox-dung and you know it," I told her. "Every cat has some emotions, you just don't show it like some cats."

She was silent for a moment. "Maybe I'm a little worried," she admitted quietly.

"And it's completely fine to be worried," I told her. "We gotta have faith in Dawnfur, she knows what she's doing. Everything will probably turn out fine."

"Probably," Silentstorm repeated.

"Well, I can't make promises I can't keep. There's always a chance. We can't just lose all hope though. We're not young enough or old enough for it to be a large threat. Most likely it will be fine," I told her.

"But there's always a chance things could not be fine," she said. "And when things might not go right they commonly go wrong, despite the percentages. I always assume the worst is going to happen. Occasionally I'm pleasantly surprised, but most the time things go wrong, though sometimes in an unexpected way. Things rarely go right, Silkshade. You should know this by now with all that's happened to you."

"But I'm also still here, alive and capable of living life. I've been through some terrible things, but overall it hasn't affected me too much. Even if things don't always turn out perfect, it doesn't mean things are gonna go horribly wrong," I said. "That isn't a good mindset to have."

"At least I'm not constantly disappointed," Silentstorm said.

"I'm not saying that things will go right, I'm just saying we should hope for the best. Believe me, there's been times when I thought there was no hope. But here I am, alive and well," I said.

"And blind," Silentstorm added.

"Yeah, but I'm handling it just fine," I said.

"Fight me then," she said.

"What?" I asked.

"A battle. The winner is right," she said.

"No. A battle won't change the fact I'm right," I told her. "You need to stop being so pessimistic. I'm not saying you need to be optimistic either, I'm saying you just need to not be so negative. Songheart will most likely be fine."

"But what if she's not?" Silentstorm asked. "What if she dies? What happens then? I don't want to lose her."

I wasn't really expecting her to say that. "I don't want to lose her either," I told her. "Honestly, I'd rather not even think about it. But if it happens it happens. We both know none of us are going to live forever, it'll happen someday. One of us will leave the others behind. I could choke on a mouse and die today, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. A tree could fall on you and kill you right now, but it probably won't happen. Anyone could die at any given point, but that doesn't mean they will. And when time is up we can't stop them from going to StarClan."

"I suppose you're right," she said.

"I definitely am," I said.

"There is nothing I can do to prevent the future. I should accept the coming darkness," she said.

"That's not at all what I meant!" I exclaimed. "I meant things can go wrong, but that doesn't mean we should expect them to."

"Everything goes wrong, so why shouldn't we expect it?" she asked.

"Because it doesn't always go wrong. We wouldn't be alive if everything always went wrong," I said.

"So maybe things don't always go wrong, but most the time they do," she revised.

"Still no. Our luck would've run out by now. We'd be dead if things went wrong most the time with all the things we've dealt with," I said.

"Why do you have to have a good point?" Silentstorm asked.

"Because I do. Are you finally going to agree I'm right?" I asked.

"You're right," she muttered.

How was my day going? I had beat Silentstorm in a fight, even if she hadn't been fighting as well as usual, and I had beat her in an argument, which she rarely admitted someone else was right. A pretty amazing day of you ask me. Excluding the fact Songheart has whitecough though. That's not good.

"Shall we continue training then?" I asked. I know better than to brag to Silentstorm.

"Yes," she said.

She beat me every single time.

Silentstorm and I were walking back to camp. "How about we check and see how Songheart's doing when we get back?" I suggested.

"We should," Silentstorm agreed.

We went toward Dawnfur's den. We stopped a bit from the entrance. Dawnfur apparently noticed us.

"What can I do for you two?" she asked.

"We just wanted to ask how Songheart is doing," I said.

"She's no better, but no worse," Dawnfur answered.

"That's good at least," I said. "How are the elders?"

"Things aren't looking great for Lightningflash, but I'll keep trying. Maybe things would be better if had came to me earlier," she said. "Darkfur seems to be getting worse. Still whitecough though so I'll hold out hope."

I nodded. "Good luck," I told her.

"Thanks," she said. "I'll see you around."

"Yeah," I agreed before walking off.

"So she's doing fine," Silentstorm stated.

"I figured as much," I said. "Like I said earlier, she should be fine."

"Maybe I was getting a little out of reason," she said.

"It's completely understandable Silentstorm. She is your sister after all," I said. "Let's get something to eat."

"Okay," she said.

We grabbed some fresh-kill and sat down to eat. We sat in silence, Silentstorm was probably deep in her own thoughts knowing her.

"Hey guys. Could I maybe sit with you?" Boulderfang asked.

"Yeah," I answered. "You know where Deathfire and Tallblaze are?"

"No," he answered. "I hope Deathfire is getting some sleep, but knowing her I doubt she is. She looked pretty tired today and a bit off."

"Really? I hope she's okay," I said. I guess she didn't sleep well.

"Me too," he agreed.

We talked a bit while Silentstorm was doing whatever she was doing. Things weren't perfect, that was for sure. Things felt pretty off actually. But everything would be fine in due time. Probably. You can never forget the probably.

Author Note: Things will go fine. It's not like the author of this story makes thing after thing go wrong... Like worse case scenarios never happen, let alone death. Yeah... SilentI-don't-have-emotionsstorm(her real, legit name) really be struggling. Luckily she's got Silkshade who isn't blind(about that...) to her friend's emotions. But what's up with Deathfire? Please, we all know that. Well, the characters obviously don't. We'll see how the poor kid is managing next chapter. Welp, leave a review if ya want. I hope to see you all back here next week!
