Owen let himself into his childhood home, "mom do you have a minute?"
"Sure Teddy is picking up Nikki," Evelyn replied, "you look nervous what's going on?"
"It's about me and Teddy," Owen said.
"What's going on with you two," Evelyn said, "you two wanted to tell us something the other night."
"She's not exactly my roommate," Owen said, "we're living together."
"I knew that," Evelyn said, "you two have to tell your sister."
"Teddy said she will," Owen replied, "Nikki is a bit more forgiving of Teddy then me."
"Yes they're having dinner and finding an outfit for Sunday," Evelyn replied, "Nikki has her first date and wanted Teddy instead of me."
"She asked my girlfriend to be her big sister," Owen replied, "Teddy was happy to do it."
"You and Teddy," Evelyn said, "when?"
"A few months ago," Owen replied, "I didn't want to rush things."
"Is she why you left Beth," Evelyn pressed.
"She is," Owen agreed, "she gets me, she gets us."
"Is Teddy feeling okay," Evelyn asked, "she seemed off last night."
"She's fine," Owen assured, "nothing to worry about. We were all emotional last night."
"She didn't look well when you arrived," Evelyn said.
"She had a long day and had lost a patient," Owen replied, "she takes loses really hard."
"Owen," Evelyn scolded, "what aren't you telling me?"
"She's my girlfriend, we're living together," Owen said, "I think Teddy is the one but it's way too soon to propose."
"How long have you known her," Evelyn asked.
"6 years," Owen replied, "basically only separated to sleep when we were over there. She gets me mom. Teddy and I can talk about anything and she doesn't judge. You always said dad was your best friend, Teddy is my best friend."
"What feels right," Evelyn asked.
"Being with Teddy," Owen replied, "I knew the first time I brought her home."
"I knew she was special then," Evelyn agreed, "what do you want to do?"
"Marry her," Owen said, "start a family. We're 35."
"You'll find the right time," Evelyn promised, "but I still think there's more going on yesterday than tired and emotional and I always find out so you might as well tell me now."
"It's nothing mom," Owen said, "you don't need to worry Teddy is fine."
"Owen she refused wine," Evelyn pointed out, "you two don't come by if either is on call so don't give me that."
"I can't tell you without Teddy," Owen replied, "but it's nothing for you to be worried about. There is nothing wrong, she is fine."
"I think I have an idea but I'll wait until she tells me," Evelyn agreed, "everyone is fine? Healthy? Happy?"
"Yes," Owen replied.
"Why didn't you tell me you were dating," Evelyn asked.
"I thought you'd think we were rushing it," Owen said.
"You and Beth broke up almost 2 years ago," Evelyn said, "you've known and loved Teddy for years."
"When the time is right," Owen said, "we've been a couple four months."
"You'll know," Evelyn agreed, "Owen if it's what I'm thinking four months really?"
"I don't know what you're thinking," Owen replied.
"Stop playing games Owen," Evelyn scolded, "is Teddy pregnant?"
Owen turned beet red.
"Owen," Evelyn exclaimed.
"Mom," Owen groaned, "it's not like we're teenagers."
"But you're only just together, is that why you moved in together," Evelyn asked.
"No, our move was planned before," Owen said, "I promise mom I will do the right thing."
"Will you marry her," Evelyn pressed.
"When the time is right," Owen said, "I don't want to propose now and give her the wrong idea."
"I can see that," Evelyn agreed, "but you and Teddy are linked for life now."
"Mom I know," Owen groaned.
"Why didn't you tell me you were dating," Evelyn asked.
"I didn't think we needed to," Owen said, "I thought you knew."
"You've been attached at the hip for months," Evelyn agreed, "I wondered a few times with you arm around her waist or her grabbing your hand but I thought you would tell me."
"We were going to tell you yesterday," Owen said, "but then you had the letters. And we had a good talk with Nikki."
"Teddy told me Nikki hugged you," Evelyn said.
"It started with Teddy hugging her, turned into a group hug then Teddy left me and Nikki to work it out," Owen said, "she asked Teddy to be her big sister."
"Owen I'm old for a mom," Evelyn replied, "especially with a teenager. I turn 58 soon. She's going to need you and Teddy to navigate the next few years."
"This first date worries me," Owen said, "can I meet the boy?"
"I'm sure you'll see him this weekend," Evelyn promised.
"Do we bring flowers or something like that," Owen asked.
"Nikki would love it," Evelyn replied, "you sister likes lilies and sunflowers."
Teddy was standing in the lobby of the Nikki's school
"What are you doing here," Beth asked.
"Waiting for Nikki," Teddy replied, she wasn't going to let this insecure woman bother her.
"Why," Beth asked.
"Nikki wanted me to," Teddy answered, "I'm going to spend some time with her then take her home."
"Are you staying in Seattle now," Beth asked, "that kid is prickly."
"I am," Teddy replied, "running cardio at Seattle Grace, spending time with Owen and the rest of the family."
"He's still pawning Nikki off on others," Beth laughed.
"No," Teddy declared, "they do something without me or Evelyn once a week. I got home the other day and Nikki was at our table working on her anatomy homework with Owen."
"You're living with Owen," Beth asked, looking shocked.
"A couple weeks now," Teddy replied, "it just works for us with how busy both out schedules are. And I'm a lot more scheduled than he is, he's on call way more."
A group of teens in leotards exited the main studio.
"Teddy," Nikki called.
"Hi Squirt," Teddy replied, in recent weeks she was letting Owen and Teddy call her that again.
"Not at school," Nikki groaned.
"Nikki go change," Teddy directed, "we have our night planned."
"Nicole, your essay is due at the start of class," Beth reminded.
"It's in my locker I can give it to you now," Nikki replied.
"I don't want it now," Beth said, "I'm heading home."
"Good night Miss Whitman see you tomorrow," Nikki said.
"You go change now," Teddy directed.
Nikki walked down the hall with a boy.
"Who is that," Jason asked.
"My older brother's girlfriend," Nikki said, "that's Teddy."
"She looks 30," Jason said.
"Owen is 34 or 35," Nikki said, "I assume Teddy is the same age."
"Are you close to them," Jason asked.
"Getting closer," Nikki said, "Owen went to college when I was like 2, med school when I was 6 and then was deployed in the middle east for a long time. That's where he met Teddy."
"Med school your brother is a doctor," Jason said.
"Suregon," Nikki replied, "I'm the dumb sibling."
"You can't believe that," Jason said looking shocked.
"Owen and I had a sister," Nikki replied, "Meghan was also a surgeon she's been missing in action two years."
"I knew that," Jason said, "the whole school was talking about it."
"I'm sure Miss Whitman started it all," Nikki said, "I can't stand her."
"Why do you hate Miss Whitman," Jason asked.
"She's Owen's ex and never liked me," Nikki admitted.
"She's nasty to you," Jason said.
"Always has," Nikki replied.
They had reached the girls change room.
"I have to change and then Teddy and I have a couple things to do," Nikki said.
"See you tomorrow," Jason said.
"Coffee after tech and before math," Nikki suggested.
"Of course," Jason replied before continuing down the hall.
Nikki met up with Teddy in the lobby.
"Was that Jason," Teddy asked.
"Yes," Nikki giggled.
"He's cute," Teddy said, "do you know him well?"
"We've both been here since 6th grade," Nikki said.
"Any homework tonight," Teddy asked.
"Skim the anatomy chapter on the cardiovascular system," Nikki replied, "but it's just preview and make a title page."
"If you need help that's my speciality," Teddy said.
"The final project we have to choreograph something about," Nikki replied.
"I may be able to help with music," Teddy said, "what if you used actual recordings of heart sounds?"
"I'll think about it," Nikki smiled, "it would stand out."
They had reached Teddy's car.
"So how much do you like this guy," Teddy asked.
"A lot," Nikki blushed, "can you call Owen off?"
"Your brother is going to be hard to get to stand down when it comes to protecting you," Teddy replied.
"But you can," Nikki begged, "he listens to you."
"His listening is improving," Teddy said.
"He doesn't yell at me now," Nikki said.
"He doesn't," Teddy said, "our residents still get yelled at."
"Why," Nikki asked.
"They usually need it," Teddy replied, "can I ask you something?"
"Sure," Nikki replied.
"Would you be okay if Owen and I lived together like a couple instead of roommates," Teddy asked.
"I thought you were a couple," Nikki replied.
"We are," Teddy said.
"Do I really get a say," Nikki asked.
"Yes and no," Teddy said.
"Then why did you ask," Nikki asked.
"Its more me telling you," Teddy replied.
"Does mom know," Nikki asked.
"Owen is telling her," Teddy smiled, "do we want to check your closet or just go shopping?"
"Shopping," Nikki said, "I wear my uniform at school so what I have is jeans and t-shirts or church clothes."
"Shopping for sure," Teddy agreed, "do you have cute jeans?"
"I do," Nikki replied, "Roxy ones."
"Good," Teddy said, "so the mall it is."
"What do I wear," Nikki asked.
"We will find the perfect outfit," Teddy said, "do you know where you're going?"
"No," Nikki said.
"What about a sundress," Teddy suggested.
"I like dresses," Nikki agreed, "no pink. It doesn't go with red hair."
"Your hair isn't that red anymore," Teddy said.
"Mom let me put blonde highlights in it to tone down the red," Nikki said, "artistic directors don't love red hair. It's hard to blend into the corps de ballet on stage."
"I like the red," Teddy said, "not many families have three redheads."
"I get called a ginger at school," Nikki said, "the highlights help me fit in."
"Up to you," Teddy said, shaking her head.
"What do I do with my hair and make up for my date," Nikki asked.
"Will you have time to go home after the show," Teddy asked.
"I think so," Nikki replied.
"Down and straight," Teddy said, "I'll do your makeup."
"Really," Nikki asked.
"I can," Teddy smiled.
"Will mom be okay with it," Nikki asked.
"I think so," Teddy replied, "we'll make sure you look cute."
"Do you mind," Nikki asked for the millionth time.
"No," Teddy said, "I've always wanted a little sister."
They walked into the mall and Nikki tried on several dresses before finding a cute purple dress.
"Will Jason like this," Nikki asked.
"Do you feel good," Teddy asked.
"Yes," Nikki replied.
"Then it's the right dress," Teddy said.
Nikki bought the dress and they walked back to the car to go for dinner.
When Teddy pulled into Evelyn's drive way she noticed Owen's truck.
"What's Owen doing here," Nikki asked.
"I don't know," Teddy said.
"Coming in," Nikki asked.
"I guess. My boyfriend is here," Teddy laughed.
"Hi girls, how was your night," Evelyn called hearing the door open.
"How was school Squirt," Owen asked.
"Good," Nikki replied, "I got 99 on my math test and my digestive system test went well. We start the cardiovascular system tomorrow."
"Our night was good," Teddy replied to Evelyn.
"Teddy sit," Evelyn directed.
Teddy took the spot on the couch beside Owen quickly kissing his cheek. He put one arm around her waist holding her close.
Owen whispered, "mom figured it all out."
Teddy replied, "let's tell them."
"Mom, Nikki come sit," Owen said, "we have exciting news for you."
"You're together," Nikki said, "you told me yesterday."
"That's part of it," Teddy said.
"What's the rest of it sweetheart," Evelyn asked.
"Congratulations Grandma," Teddy said, "baby comes in February."
"What," Nikki said.
"Nikki," Owen said, "you're going to be an auntie. Teddy and I are having a baby."
"Congratulations," Evelyn yelled hugging both Teddy and Owen.
"Squirt," Owen said.
"Big brother, big sister and a new baby, this is cool," Nikki said, joining the group hug.
"Why didn't you tell us sooner," Evelyn asked.
"We've known for two weeks," Teddy said, "a couple days after we moved into our place. I needed time to enjoy it, just Owen and I."
"Are you feeling okay," Evelyn asked.
"Most of the time," Teddy said, "just really tired."
"If you need anything sweetheart call me," Evelyn said.
"I will," Teddy agreed, "are you sure this is okay?"
"It's sooner than I thought but it's a baby. My first grandchild," Evelyn smiled.
"I'm going to be the coolest aunt ever," Nikki promised.
"You will be," Teddy said.
