Chapter 7 – Conqueror

Before she started her explanation, Ha-Neul asked, "have you heard from grandpa or your father, Oppa? The terrible accident when I lost my parents and siblings, even I barely died".
After Woo Jin-Cheol nodded his head with (somehow) a solemn expression, Ha-Neul briefly told them that she had earned this ability after the near-death experience post-accident "I also have no idea about how I can do this and why am I able to do this, I just… can understand what the animals talk about, and I can communicate with them, too".
Woo Jin-Cheol nodded his head feverishly "I knew it".
Min Byung-Gyu squeezed her hands "so cool! Can I call you Noona?".
Ha-Neul deadpanned "how could you possibly call me 'Noona' when we're on the same age, Byung-Gyu?".
Eun Seok caressed his chin thoughtfully and whistled "I've heard multiple times the story about how the people, who have passed through the near-death experience, would earn the supernatural power. Though, this is my first time to meet personally with that kind of person".
Baek Yoon-Ho turned his head to Woo Jin-Cheol "and from your reaction, you just knew it?".
Woo Jin-Cheol averted his head "well… I have suspected about it since a long time ago and been waiting for her to tell me, but since I've decided to wait until she told me when she's ready...".
"that's why he never confronted me about it previously?", Ha-Neul knew the situation right now was no longer in their control, so they had no choice but to ask Ha-Neul explain about her ability. Even if she did not fully reveal about her ability, she felt grateful for Woo Jin-Cheol who never told anyone about it and willingly waited for her answers of his unspoken questions. She smiled brightly "thank you, Oppa".
Even if Woo Jin-Cheol didn't know why and what for she thanked him "you're welcome?".
Eun Seok whistled, both hands casually tucked behind his head "wow, I have heard from my father that Mr. Go Geun-Hee's grand-daughter is a prodigy child, but I don't know you're a paranormal, too".
Ha-Neul snapped her head to Eun Seok "you know of me and my grandfather? How?".
"well… do you know General Kim Song Eun? The General of Army who is tasked to guard the important meeting today in the villa with his task force. He is my father".
Oh, it made sense now. No wonder she didn't know. Only two things she knew about Eun Seok. First, he was a friend of Baek Yoon-Ho and Min Byung-Gyu. Second, he was the side-character who had passed away in the main story (or was going to die in this timeline) because he was eaten by the Ants in the S-rank dungeon at the Jeju Island.
She shuddered at the memory.
Looking at her shivering body, thinking she must have felt cold, Woo Jin-Cheol wrapped his muffler around her neck "here. Doctor said that as a redhead, you're more sensitive to the pain and temperature. Don't get a cold".
Sniffing his mild scent on the muffler, Ha-Neul blissfully enjoyed the warmth which still left on the muffler. Covering her lower face with the muffler, she exclaimed happily "thank you, Oppa!".
Eun Seok nodded his head "okay, we understand why you hide your ability. People tend to ostracize the odds and under the normal circumstances, you will be considered as a weirdo or a strange alien by the common people around you. In result, people only will avoid and ostracize you".
Woo Jin-Cheol narrowed his eyes "I think it's not what you should say to someone who saved you before you become the Bears' food".
"I said 'under the normal circumstances' and 'common people', which I'm not included", Eun Seok grinned and ruffled her head "from what I saw, you have a good heart and a good girl who saved our life. Thank you very much, little miss".
"he's right. If it were not because of you, we would be the livestock for these Bears", Baek Yoon-Ho smiled and patted her head "we owe you. Thank you so much".
Min Byung-Gyu shook her hand "thank you very much, Noona!".
Eun Seok patted Min Byung-Gyu's head "oi, Byung-Gyu, what's the point of calling her Noona when you and she are on the same age?".
Ouch. She caressed her chest. Her inner-heart felt uneasy, somehow. To think such a gentle soul like Eun Seok would die, being eaten by the Ants in the future…
Eun Seok rolled his eyes "why did you make that face?".
Ha-Neul blinked her eyes "what kind of face?".
"like, you have something in your mind and it must have related to me, from how it looks like you just pity me?".
Ha-Neul deadpanned "well, I was just thinking… have you done something bad to the Ants till one of them wants to eat you?".
Eun Seok shuddered "don't say something scary expressionless like that! You seriously creeped me out here, girl! You did not have a death prophecy about me or something, right?".
Ha-Neul averted her eyes awkwardly "well... I wonder...".
Poor Eun Seok turned pale "…you've gotta kidding, right?".

Huh? Her eyes dilated. Wait, what? The Animals.
She concluded that she would need the animals from the Dungeon since her pets (Nyx, Libby, and Ash) did not count. Unfortunately, with these boys were still nearby, she could not check it immediately. Perhaps, she could reach more understanding after getting the explanation from the 'Hints' feature later. For now, she should just focus on her Quest. Now the Ice Bears had been taken care of, she still needed to worry about the Yetis and the Ice Elves.
Woo Jin-Cheol asked, "now, back to the main topic, I heard from Hannie that you've been kidnapped. By who and why did they do it?".
Baek Yoon-Ho frowned "how could you know?".
Eun Seok waved it off as nothing important "eh, stupid question. She's a paranormal, of course, she knew".
Ha-Neul clarified "am not".
Eun Seok casually said, "an indigo child, then".
"what's the difference?", Min Byung-Gyu tilted before scratching the back of his head "whatever. Actually, you're right. The humans-like creatures caught us and brought us to their lair when we were playing in the wood. They're just like the Elves in the TV! But they are bad…".
Baek Yoon-Ho lightly patted Min Byung-Gyu's head to calm him down "as you see, we managed to escape when those evil Elves went hunting outside. We were cold and hungry, so when we smelled something nice in the cave".
Eun Seok lifted his hand, bowing to the Bears "that's when we took some fruits to eat, without knowing it's the livestock of these Bears. We're so sorry".
"they said they forgave you too", Ha-Neul turned her attention back to the Ice Bears "Kenay, Tana, can you tell me? Are the Yetis bad?".
Tana shook its head "not all of them, only those who lost their egos, even if mostly Yetis lost their egos".
Ha-Neul wondered if she could access the 'Hints' feature to figure out the clues about how to defeat her enemy in case she failed to persuade them and how to use the 'Reservoir' facility. She tried and she could have cheered out loud when she could access it. Thanks to the 'Hints' feature, she could learn the useful things she needed to know before they were going to save the civilians. Call it as 'kill two birds with one stone'. She did not forget to use the knowledge about the SL universe which she had earned from reading the novel as well before searching about it through the 'Hints' feature.
"think. Remember it. Where did I read it? ...Ah!", Ha-Neul tapped her clenched, tiny fist on her palm and exclaimed "the magic crystal!".
The boys chorused "what did you say?".
Ha-Neul lifted her forefinger "magic crystal. I think it's their weakness. You see, there's a magic crystal embedded in their body which telling them to 'hunt the humans'. If we can destroy those magic crystal—".
Min Byung-Gyu copied her gesture —then perhaps we can stop them! Brilliant idea!".
Woo Jin-Cheol said sceptically "wait, it means there is someone who controlled them somewhere, right? We still don't know if it's a good idea or not".
Eun Seok nodded "I think so, too. Who knows? What if they go berserk instead after we destroy the magic crystal attached on their body?".
Baek Yoon-Ho asked the very same question which had been asked several times this day "again, how did you know about it?".
Ha-Neul hesitantly said, "…would you believe me if I said that I heard the sounds within my head which telling me about that stuff?".
Woo Jin-Cheol squeezed her shoulders reassuringly "Hannie, next time don't doubt to tell us. I will never distrust your words".
She smiled sheepishly and relaxed "okay, Oppa. Thanks".
Baek Yoon-Ho realized "wait... if it's just like what you said… it means the Ice Bears also…".
Libby confirmed coherently "oh, they had it until it was destroyed by our Lady".
When Kenay and Tana nodded their head in agreement, Ha-Neul gawked "HOW!?".
Min Byung-Gyu blinked his eyes innocently "what the animals said, Noona?".
Ha-Neul interpreted what her trio pets and duo Ice Bears' leaders said as the animals recited about what had happened. It seemed like at the time they all closed their eyes when Kenay tried to attack her, there was a golden light enveloping her body. In other words, unconsciously Ha-Neul destroyed the magic crystal on the Ice Bears' body. It coincidentally happened when they all closed their eyes, thus no one realized about it except the animals who witnessed what happened.
Libby bowed its head "we just want to tell you, but the boys here demanded you to tell them about your ability, so we delayed it. We're so sorry for not telling you sooner, my Lady".
"no, it's fine, Lib. What's more important", Ha-Neul waved her head before turning to the Ice Bears "now, we know from their case… destroying the magic crystal will make them sober, not to make them berserk. Let's just hope it's the same case with the Yetis and Ice Elves".
First, before they made their first move, about time to check the conditions with her Clairvoyance, then.

Ha-Neul frowned deeply and narrowed her eyes. The casualties had appeared. It meant they needed to go outside as soon as possible.
Wait. The 'Awakened' appeared along with the casualties. They hadn't encountered with the Yetis and the Ice Elves yet. It meant they were busy doing whatever they were up to outside there as long as they stayed here. Ha-Neul gasped and blanched, telling them all to go outside.
Turning to both leaders of the Ice Bears, she instructed "Kenay, Tana, tell some Ice Bears to come with us. Some of them should leave in this cave to protect the cubs".
Kenay and Tana cooperated with her and once they reached outside, when Kenay and Tana organized the Ice Bears to split them into two teams, Ha-Neul checked the conditions around them using her new Skill.

It was just like its name, it felt like she could see far away over 1.000 Li, throwing her sight. From her spot in front of the cave, she could see the Yetis were already on the halfway to reach the outskirt of the wood. It was only a matter of time until the Yetis arrived in the nearest vicinity of the common people.
If it were to happen, the casualties would be unavoidable.
Woo Jin-Cheol stood by her side, narrowing his eyes "what are you staring at?".
She gritted her teeth, ignoring her friend's question "Think. What I can do with a child's body is limited".
Min Byung-Gyu exclaimed "Noona! Your finger's bleeding!".
Looking down to her finger, she didn't realize that her finger was indeed bleeding. She didn't realize that she had bitten her finger quite hard. An idea popped in her head, though "ah, what a coincidence. I need something to write, after all".
Baek Yoon-Ho twitched the corner of his mouth "with your blood? Seriously?".
Eun Seok didn't even know what to say "…one more unique kid I came to know".
Using her blood, she wrote the message on her white handkerchief, tying it around Nyx's collar before she mounted on top of Ash's body "Lib, go with Nyx and run to the villa as fast as you can. Once you two arrive there, Nyx, give it to my grandfather. Ash, run as fast as you can to the outskirt of the wood".
Libby complied, running to the villa after Nyx mounted on top of its body "understood, my Lady!".
Woo Jin-Cheol caught Ash's tail "whoa, there. Where would you go?".
Ash barked angrily "hey! Let go of me!".
"not so fast", Eun Seok narrowed his eyes "you're planning to go without us?".
Min Byung-Gyu waved his hand "right, what about us?".
Baek Yoon-Ho carried Min Byung-Gyu on his shoulders "won't it be faster and safer if we just go back to the villa together and ask for help from the adults?".
Ha-Neul scowled "if we did it, the Yetis would arrive at the nearest vicinity of the common people and the casualties would be unavoidable, smart boy".
Woo Jin-Cheol concluded, "there are other people that you need to save".
After Ha-Neul nodded her head, Woo Jin-Cheol sighed "then, I will come with you".
When Woo Jin-Cheol tried to mount on top of Ash's body, he fell back to the snowy ground because the Siberian Husky lowered its lower body. Ha-Neul managed to wrap her arms around Ash's neck, thus she didn't fall, but Woo Jin-Cheol fell with his rear on the snowy ground and grunted in pain.
Woo Jin-Cheol lifted his clenched fist "hey! Is it the time to be so mean?".
Ash snorted "that's for pulling my tail".
Ha-Neul rolled her eyes "you guys, seriously, is this the right time and place for this?".
"it will be faster to ride on me", Tana readily gave a ride, already put Ha-Neul and Woo Jin-Cheol on her back "we need to move as fast as possible, right?".
Ha-Neul thanked Tana before asking Kenay to give a ride as well, for the trio "Eun Seok-Ssi, Yoon-Ho-Ssi, Min Byung-Gyu, don't go too far from Kenay, okay? Also, any of you, do you have a handphone?".
Eun Seok pulled out his smartphone from his pocket "I have. Why?".
"call the police, firefighters, ambulance, and army. Tell them to come to the place I'll mention. We will need their cooperation", Ha-Neul pondered for the last time "also, you think the 'Yetis' can be included as the part of the Beasts or Animals?".
Baek Yoon-Ho raised his head, intrigued "perhaps you can count them as the Beast. Why?".
"good to know", Ha-Neul sighed a white breath "it means I have the chance against the Yetis. It only leaves the Ice Elves. They will be the hardest to be taken care of. Especially because…".
Looking at her grave expression, Woo Jin-Cheol hesitantly reached out his hand to her, when Eun Seok called to confirm "as you instructed, the police, firefighters, and ambulance will go to the outskirt of the city first before they join the army and go to our villa".
Baek Yoon-Ho steadied Min Byung-Gyu in his laps "by the way, what did you write on your handkerchief with your blood just now?".
Ha-Neul grinned "simply telling Grandpa and everyone about our enemy's weakness".
Thanks to the Ice Bears who gave a ride, they arrived on the outskirt of the city quickly. When they arrived there, the police and firefighters were busy to evacuate the common people. Just in time, when they arrived on the downhill, they happened to find a mother with her son. They saw a Yeti trying to attack them.
"Ash, bite him! Kenay, Tana, hold them and crush the magic crystal!".
As she had instructed, Ash bit that Yeti's hand before its punch reached the mother-son. When the poor Yeti cried out in pain, swinging its hand, Eun Seok and Baek Yoon-Ho took this advantage to usher both mother and son far away from the Yeti.
Eun Seok asked, "are you hurt anywhere, ma'am?".
"not at all. Thank you very much for helping us!", Park Kyung-Hye bowed slightly to the youngsters who saved her and her son before she checked her son "Jin-Woo, are you hurt anywhere?".
Ha-Neul dismounted from Tana and approached them "ah! Dongsaeng, what are you doing here? I think I've told you before to go home right away with your mother".
"ah, you…", Park Kyung-Hye recognized her before telling her the reason why they were still here "well, he ran to the wood because he wanted to find you. He's refused to go home before he could see you say goodbye and ask whether you can meet him again or not".
Ha-Neul groaned, pulling Jin-Woo's cheek with a strained smile as a vein bulging on her head "oh, it's so cute of you, Jin-Woo Dongsaeng~ but you better listen to your mother and be a good boy next time, okay?".
Jin-Woo nodded with a sulking face, feeling guilty "sorry, Noona".
Ha-Neul sighed, patting his head "listen, it's not that I'm mad. I only don't want you to get hurt".
"Hannie, sorry to disturb you", Woo Jin-Cheol poked her shoulder, pointing behind him after she turned her head with a questioning expression "but what should we do to them now?".
Oh. It seemed like all Yetis had gathered here. The Yetis were having the staring contest with the Ice Bears who had guarded them against the beginning.
Good. Time to take care of the Yetis "I've got this".
Park Kyung-Hye reached out her hand, tightening her grip on Jin-Woo's body "wait, it's dangerous!".
Baek Yoon-Ho waved his hand "it'll be fine, Madam".
Ha-Neul strictly ordered the Yetis "all of you, sit down".
As she ordered, the Yetis complied and obediently sat on the ground.
When Min Byung-Gyu clapped his hands, Baek Yoon-Ho lifted his hand "see?".
Park Kyung-Hye gawked "what? How? Who is she?".
Eun Seok shrugged "let's just call her the 'Animals Tamer' for now".
"speaking of which, you have a cut on your cheek. Your knee's bleeding too, madam", Min Byung-Gyu pulled out the band-aid from his pocket, putting it on Jin-Woo's cheek and Park Kyung-Hye's knees "now you're good to go!".
Ha-Neul put her hands in her hips "which one of you is the leader of the pack?".
After one of the Yetis lifted its hand (the one who barely attacked Jin-Woo and Park Kyung-Hye), Ha-Neul hit its head with her tiny fist "that's for trying to attack them".
Eun Seok snickered, both hands crossed over his chest "I don't think your tiny fist attack will affect them".
Ha-Neul smiled sweetly "oh, so you wanna try?".
"try it, here", Eun Seok accepted the challenge and gave his cheek. After he got a hard slap from her, he winced in pain and rubbed his reddish stinging cheek "Ow! What kind of strength you have as a girl?".
Ha-Neul blinked innocently "did I slap him too strong?".
She thought she invested her EXP for the Strength the least, so she didn't expect it to be this strong.
"no, he's just weak and I guess it has something to do with how skinny you are. Your body mostly consists of skin and bones, no wonder it's feeling hard and quite painful when you hit him", Woo Jin-Cheol argued, squeezing Ha-Neul's hand "despite the softness of your skin. As I expected, girls tend to have fewer muscles and it feels squishy".
Next time, Ash bit Woo Jin-Cheol's head "let her go!".
Ha-Neul frantically waved her hands "Ash, let him go!".
After Ash let him go, Ha-Neul checked if he was hurt or not. Thankfully, no. Even if he got a little headache from it. Next, taking care of the Yetis was not that much challenge. She could settle with the Yetis pretty easily, just like she did with the Ice Bears. Not too long after she successfully persuaded the Yetis with giving them food (it seemed the Yetis were simply hungry), the window box of the System appeared.

Ha-Neul's eyes glanced sideways to where Park Kyung-Hye carried Jin Woo.
"Kyung-Hye! Jin-Woo!", still wearing the firefighter uniform, Il-Hwan arrived breathlessly, pulling his son and wife into his embrace before doing the body-check "are you hurt anywhere?".
"my dear, we're fine", Park Kyung-Hye smiled, nodding her head to where Ha-Neul and her friends were "thanks to them".
Seong Il-Hwan sighed in relief "thank god. I can't lose you two".
When Seong Il-Hwan covered Jin-Woo's eyes and leaned down, both Eun Seok and Baek Yoon-Ho averted their head. Of course, they did it after Eun Seok covered Woo Jin-Cheol and Ha-Neul's eyes, while Baek Yoon-Ho covered Min Byung-Gyu's eyes. Even Ash covered its eyes and turned its head.
Seong Il-Hwan cleared his throat "uh, thank you very much, for saving my wife and son. Now, I'd like to give a ride for you to your home and formally thank your parents".
Eun Seok explained the situation, that they needed to go to the villa in the downhill of the mountain near this city "my father asked me to keep it secret, but because of the dire situation we're in, I think I will need the cooperation with the firefighters, police, and army as well".
Baek Yoon-Ho commented, "sometimes, I forgot that you're the General's son, and only at the time like this, I remember it".
Min Byung-Gyu deadpanned "it's so mean of you, Hyung".
Suddenly, the window box appeared in front of Ha-Neul's face.

Ha-Neul turned to her companion and alerted them "get down! Arrows are coming!".
Thanks to her warning, the Yetis and Ice Bears were on guard protecting them from the upcoming arrows. They hid behind the Yetis and Ice Bears who caught and broke the flying arrows with their hands or paws.
Eun Seok screamed when he saw three arrows flying lowly towards her, coming from the bushes "Ha-Neul, watch out!".
Maybe it was thanks to her Senses, Perception, and Agile Stats. She knew the arrows were aimed by the Ice Elves to her, but she had predicted it. Gracefully, just like dancing, she spun around and successfully avoided the upcoming arrows which embedding on the ground. The boys jaw-dropped.
Woo Jin-Cheol chuckled "as expected of her".
Jin-Woo clapped his hands "Noona's so cool!".
Min Byung-Gyu excitedly exclaimed, "how could you do it, Noona? It's so cool!".
"I practice ballet in my dance lesson every day, that's all", Ha-Neul lifted her hand and muttered as if it was nothing before turning her head to the woods "isn't it about time for you to get out?".
A troop of Ice Elves came out and one of them, a girl who looked like the second in command (sort-of the vice president) approached them and introduced herself as Raru, asking Ha-Neul "who are you, young Lady who can understand and communicate with us? No, maybe it's not quite right… more precisely, 'WHAT' are you?".
Ha-Neul crossed her arms before her chest "why did you ask?".
"because strangely, we don't hear the voices in our head. We have been told to hunt the humans, but we don't hear it when we see you. Instead, there's an indescribable, strangely nostalgic feeling from our heart", Ice Elf, Raru tapped her temples before touching her chest, closing her eyes solemnly "we have a Deja-Vu like we have met you once in the past. Some part of our heart's even yearning for your presence that felt warm and bright like the sun. It's a similar impression with the one we would feel when we were to face our creator, but we can't remember it at all. What we know, it seems like we should not harm you at all and our Monarchs would like us to bring you to them".
Okay, it was a strange and unexpected revelation of a secret. Enough to make Ha-Neul froze in the spot. She expected it would be like this (similar with Jin-Woo, to be able to understand and communicate with the Magic Beasts) considering her status as a Hidden Player, but she was totally confused right now. Who was the Creator or the Architect of the System, whoever higher beings who dragged her into this world? What they wanted from her and what was her role in this world?
"ha", Ha-Neul could not help but to smirk "well, I guess I'd like to know about it myself".
"We have an offer, then", Raru reached out her hand "come with us, young Lady. We will bring you to meet our leader".
She declined without a doubt "I refuse".
The Ice Elves hardened their expression and spread the hostile aura before Raru demanded, "then we are afraid, we will have to make you come with us, by force. I don't think you will have the advantage to stay by those humans' side, O' human who does not feel like a human".
Maybe this was the chance for her to persuade the Ice Elves to take her side, considering how they would like to not fight and harm her. She had no grudge against the Magic Beasts who came out from the gates which were sent by the Rulers, either. However…
"…answer me one thing. Are you, the Ice Elves, under the command of Arte, The Monarch of Frost?".
Raru looked taken aback "yes. How could you know?".
"it's not important how could I know. What's more important now, knowing who commands you, then the more reason for me to not join your troop", Ha-Neul narrowed her eyes and she sent a cold glare. Her eyes looked like glinting in the golden sparkles, like her eyes on fire with an ominous aura surrounding her body "you are nothing but the Beasts who only know how to wash the blood with the blood. Unless you are on the humanity's side… Why should I, a human, join you, the monsters who only know how to kill?".
Perhaps, she should not provoke them. However, she could not help it. She was afraid and mad when she remembered how Go Geun-Hee was going to die in the hands of Arte, the Monarch of Frost. Her blood was boiling when she remembered it and she lost control.
When the Ice Elves tried to charge at them, Ash attacked Raru's hand, barking "go, Miss! And you brat, protect the Miss no matter what!".
