"So, here we are at last. And you must be Mr. Grinch." Constance turned to face the Grinch with a look of disdain on her face.
Grinch wrapped an arm around Martha's shoulder and pulled her close; he sneered at Constance. "I'm sorry, you are…?"
"Of course, silly me. I am Constance May-Who. Perhaps you know my brother, Augustus?" The old woman replied.
"Brother?!"
"Indeed. And I must say, Mister Grinch… you're even more grotesque in person."
Max growled at her; he was standing in between his owners.
"What are you doing here, Constance?" Martha asked.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm here for your little party." Constance took out her purse and opened it; she started rummaging around in it, looking for something. "And I hope you don't mind, but… I have a little surprise of my own." She took out what looked like a dart gun.
Everyone gasped at the sight.
"You're here to kill me?" Martha asked, narrowing her eyes at her.
"What? Me? Kill you? Oh no, no, no." Constance laughed. "Of course not." She aimed the weapon at the Grinch with an evil grin. "He is." She laid a finger on the trigger.
"No! I won't let you do this!" Wilbur objected, aiming the gun above her.
"Wilbur, I told you not to do anything stupid!" Constance pulled the trigger.
The dart suddenly bounced and ricocheted all over the room until finally, the dart hit the Grinch right in the neck, causing him to cry out pain and fall to his knees. Martha shrieked and kneeled next to her husband as he held the spot on his neck where the dart shot him. Wilbur and Constance stared.
"Hmm, not exactly what I was going for, but I'll take what I can get." She said smugly.
"Oh no, what have I done?" Wilbur muttered in terror.
"Grinch? Grinchy!" Martha said, touching his arms. "Are you okay?"
"What's happening to him?" Bricklebaum asked.
Grinch grunted and groaned as the dart fell out of his neck; he shook and started to growl like an animal.
"What have you done to him?!" Martha demanded, staring daggers at Constance.
"I just shot him with a serum made from the concentrated essence of Monstrous Venom-Virus flowers." Constance proudly said.
"Venom-Virus?"
"That's right. And you know something? I couldn't have done it without YOU, Wilbur." Constance pulled him closer to her.
"W-w-w-what? You… you were…? You were working for her this whole time?" Martha asked in disbelief; her eyes started to fill up with tears as Constance nodded her head. "No… no, no! You're lying!"
"I'm afraid she's not, Martha." Dallas said, joining Constance and Wilbur. "I'm surprised you didn't figure it out sooner, and I thought you were supposed to be smart."
"Uncle… how could you?"
"No, no! Martha, it's not like that! I swear!" Wilbur ran over to his niece and held her hands, but she pushed him away. "I didn't mean to… I-I couldn't, I… I…" He hung his head in defeat. "I'm so sorry."
"You lied to me!" Martha screamed with tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
Seeing the hurt and betrayed look on her face broke Wilbur's heart; he was now regretting his decision to work for Constance even more than before. Soon, everyone turned their heads to see Grinch slowly turning to Martha. He growled a low growl as he slowly got to his feet.
"Grinchy…?" Martha whispered, slowly backing away.
The Grinch stared up at her, growling at her; his teeth suddenly looked dangerously sharp and there was a certain glint of danger in his eyes.
"Oh no… He's gone savage." Wilbur whispered in fear.
"Yes. Yes! YES!" Constance cried with a demented grin on her face.
"Ooh, here we go!" Dallas squealed excitedly.
By now, Euchariah was very nervous; Cindy and her friends watched as the Grinch got down on fours, stalking Martha like a predator stalking its prey.
"You see, my dear Martha May, any creature goes savage when they come into contact with the Venom-Virus. And now your precious husband has become what he truly is: a savage beast. Open your eyes, Martha! The Grinch is nothing like us Whos and he never will be!" Constance said, walking around the scene with a smirk.
"No, Constance! You're wrong! My Grinch is more of a Who than you'll ever be!" Martha argued, turning back to the Grinch with a sad look. "And I will never stop loving him!"
Constance glared at Martha. "Fine. Since you're too foolish and stubborn to listen, I suppose we'll have to do this the hard way." She snapped her fingers; the Grinch turned to the sound and faced Martha. "Dinner time, beasty." She giggled.
Without missing a beat, the Grinch snarled and ran up to Martha like an angry wolf, baring his teeth; Martha cried out in fear and ran away, which was when everyone in town hall started to panic and run away. As she ran, Martha suddenly tripped and turned to see the Grinch coming towards her. She backed away, breathing hard.
"Grinch, please! I know you're in there! Please, come back to me!" She begged.
"Leave her alone!" Wilbur screamed as he pounced onto the Grinch.
Martha could only stare in shock as her uncle struggled with her husband. They rolled around on the floor like they were in a wrestling match, the Grinch trying to bite Wilbur as Wilbur tried to talk some sense into him.
"Grinch, this isn't you! You're not a monster! Snap out of it!" He cried before he was flung into a wall; Wilbur breathed heavily as the Grinch came closer and closer, snarling at him all the while. "Grinch, I-I'm sorry! I never meant for this to happen! I never wanted to hurt you! Come back, please!"
"Grinch, no!" Martha yelled. "Don't!"
"Wish we had popcorn." Dallas said to Constance. "This is too good!"
And just then, just like a ravenous vampire, the Grinch furiously bit into Wilbur's neck, causing him to scream at the top of his lungs. Martha covered her eyes; she couldn't bring herself to watch. Constance and Dallas on the other hand had no problem. After a long moment of silence, Martha took her hands off her eyes and was horrified and devastated by what she saw; she saw her uncle Wilbur laying against the wall limp and still with his shirt and neck all smeared with red. The Grinch turned his head towards her and she saw the same red staining his lips and teeth. She started to cry.
"No…" She whimpered.
"Oh well. I'll call someone to dispose of Wilbur's carcass later." Constance casually commented with a shrug.
"Please, this has to stop! You've gone too far, Constance!" Martha cried as the Grinch started approaching her again; he licked his lips.
"Too far? Ha! Try not far enough!" Constance laughed.
Grinch growled at his wife again and he forced her to back into the wall behind her, cornering her. He stalked closer and closer to her as Constance watched the scene; she was practically glowing with twisted glee.
"Bye-bye, Martha May." She muttered, rubbing her hands together.
The Grinch was now mere inches from Martha's face; she squeezed her eyes shut and braced herself for the worst, only to be met with nothing.
"Psst."
Martha slowly opened her eyes and looked to see her husband.
"Gotcha." He whispered with a playful smile.
"Wh-what?" Martha asked, shaking.
The Grinch stood up and took a bow, taking out his fake teeth in the process. "I think we got it! Thank you! Thank you, everyone! I'm here all week!"
"What?!" Constance cried out in shock. "But-but-but…! How?!"
"Huh?!" Dallas's jaw dropped. "He didn't turn?!"
"Of course I didn't. You guys are SO gullible." Grinch answered, helping his wife to her feet.
"Wait, wait, wait! What the heck is going on?" Martha asked, placing her hands on her hips. "Grinch, you have some serious explaining to do. Why did you act like an animal back there? You nearly scared me to death!"
"You said the serum would turn him savage!" Dallas yelled to Constance.
"Oh? Didn't anyone tell you? I'm immune to the Venom-Virus. All Grinches are." The Grinch answered with a smirk.
Constance's eye twitched as she gawked. "I-i-i-immune?"
"So… this was all a TRICK?!" Dallas shouted.
"Sure was. And I have to admit, you really had me going there for a second, Grinch." A familiar voice chuckled.
Everyone turned their heads to see Wilbur alive and well; he walked over to Grinch and wiped the red from his neck and clothes, which was revealed to be ketchup. They shared a high-five.
"Uncle Wilbur?! You're alive?! B-but how?" Martha asked.
"Allow me to explain, hon." The Grinch said, clearing his throat. "You see, last night, Cindy-Lou and her friends came to me and they told me everything about Constance's plans to get rid of me, including her Monstrous Venom-Virus. The Venom-Virus doesn't grow anywhere NEAR Whoville, so I immediately knew something was up. So I decided to plan a Grinch Night trick of my own." He turned to Constance. "After you shot me with that serum, I just acted like a crazy animal to make you think I turned."
"But he didn't. And after the Grinch pretended to bite me, I managed to snag this from your coat pocket." Wilbur added, holding up a cell phone; Constance recognized it as her own.
A voice could be heard on the other line. "Thank you, sir. The police are on their way."
Wilbur closed the phone and smiled at her; Constance realized that he had called the police on her. "So it's not our word against yours, it's your word against yours. You were so distracted by the Grinch's performance that you never even noticed. It's called a hustle, sweetheart. Bada-bing."
"You were part of this?!" Constance demanded.
"Well, not at first. But who needs details?" Wilbur admitted with a shrug.
"And you wanna know how I celebrated Grinch Night back in the day?" Grinch asked Constance, snapping his fingers.
At that moment, Cindy-Lou, her friends, and Bricklebaum dragged the Paraphernalia Wagon inside. Constance's eyes grew wide with worry; she knew where this was going.
"Uh oh…" She muttered.
"Is that the…?" Martha started.
"Paraphernalia Wagon? Yep." Grinch replied. "Oh! Uh, you might wanna get out of here, Martha. And take everybody with you. Things are about to get ugly."
"But what about you?" She asked worriedly.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine." He held her hands in his own. "Now go."
"Okay. Love you."
"Love you, too."
They shared a quick kiss and she ran out of town hall, followed by Wilbur, Cindy-Lou and her friends, and pretty much everyone else who was attending the party; even Dallas had left, mostly because he was dragged out by the crowd. The only people left were the Grinch and Constance; he folded his arms and gave her a smug smirk as she narrowed her eyes at him.
"What are you so happy about?" Constance asked.
"Nothing." Grinch made his way over to the wagon and climbed up to the top; he grinned. "I'm just itching to show you what I have in store."
She approached the wagon and put her hands on her hips, keeping a brave face. "Very well. I'm not afraid of you, Mr. Grinch. Do your worst, bring on your spooks. Give me all you've got, I won't flinch."
"…Okay. But remember, you asked for it." Grinch said as he slowly opened the latch on the top of the wagon.
The moment the latch opened, strange things started to happen. The room started to warp and spin and odd looking creatures started to appear all around Constance. Then they started to sing.
"Constance May-Who
Constance May-Who" They sang.
"This is it, ha!
This is it, ha!
Grinch is gonna get ya!
Grinch is gonna get ya!
Grinchin' who's for a laugh
Yah!
Constance May-Who
Constance May-Who
This is it, ha!
Constance May-Who
This is it, ha!
Constance May-Who
Grinch is gonna get ya!
This is it, ha!
Grinch is gonna get ya!
This is it, ha!
Grinchin' who's for a laugh
Grinch is gonna get ya
Yah!
Grinch is gonna get ya
Grinchin' who's for a laugh
Grinch is gonna get ya
Yah!
Grinch is gonna get ya
Grinchin' who's for a laugh
Yah!"
"Enjoying yourself?" The Grinch's voice asked. "Take a little more."
Constance could only stare in horror and confusion. The creatures and monsters around her warped and stretched, as if they were trapped in a funhouse hall of mirrors. The room also began to change color and things around her started to take on different, crooked shapes. She started to walk away, only to be stopped by another deformed being.
"No, I wouldn't step here
And I wouldn't step there" The creatures around her continued to sing.
"I would only step 'round with the greatest of care
And it's hopeless to try to escape through the air
It's high-flyin' spooks, we are every-which-where
You can't turn your back
And you can't turn your face
We're the meanest member of the un-human race
We're a grizzly, gruzzly, gamply disgrace
Yes it's quite like those spooks
We're all over the place"
Constance fell to the floor, breathing heavily.
"Enjoying yourself NOW? Take a spook's tour!" The Grinch's voice called.
She looked around, but the Grinch was nowhere in sight. Constance tried to stand up again, but she felt so dizzy and queasy that it was very difficult to keep her balance. Then the room grew darker and taller as it started to spin, making Constance even more dazed and wobbly than before. Even though her head was swimming and her legs felt like jelly, she started to run to get away from the monsters chasing after her. As she ran, the scene around Constance became worse and worse and worse until finally, she couldn't take it anymore and she did the only thing she could do. She covered her head and screamed.
