Episode 1-17 Enigma

Episode Summary: SG-1 gates to a planet with a volcanic eruption in progress. They save a group of aliens by the gate who are not grateful and demand to be returned.

SG-1 sat in the briefing room with General Hammond. Maybourne had just left the base with his entourage, yelling about having all of Sg-1 and Hammond removed from the stargate program. He was furious that he didn't get his aliens to lock away and make weapons for him.

"Did they say if they would contact us again?" Hammond asked.

"Not explicitly, but they didn't discount it either." Daniel said.

"They said their new world was outside of the stargate system. But they also said they were waiting on their planet for a ship to arrive and take them home. Depending on how advanced their ships are, which we can't really know without knowing how far away their new world is from their old world, we might run into them again." Carter elaborated.

"You said they had shared technology with another world in their solar system. And that led to their world being destroyed. Is that why they were so against sharing with us?"

"Yes sir." Carter started again. "They shared a power source with a neighboring planet. That planet used it to make war, they destroyed their own planet and caused a shift in the Tollen home world's orbit. That shift caused the planet to become unstable."

"And I suppose they left nothing behind that could be of any use to us." O'Neill added, tapping his pen on his legal pad.

"I don't see why they would destroy buildings and such. But as we saw from the probe, the gate is probably already buried by lava. I doubt much else left on the planet will survive either." Carter explained.

"If we had a ship, would it be worth going there to see?" Hammond asked.

"That depends on your definition of worth it sir. If we somehow got our hands on a Goa'uld mother ship, it would take over 9 months to get from earth to the Tollen world. If we hijacked a ship further out, it would be less time."

"I'm all for hijacking a mother ship." O'Neill said, somewhat sarcastically.

"A Goa'uld would rather destroy his own ship than see it go into the hands of his enemy." Teal'c spoke for the first time.

"Right, well, we can dream, can't we." O'Neill rolled his eyes.

Teal'c gave him a bow of the head.

"So after all of that, we got absolutely nothing out of helping them?"

"Not nothing sir. We helped 2 very advanced races come together to help each other. We now know the Nox are still capable of space travel, and the Tollen owe us a rather large favor. The Tollen said they knew of the Goa'uld but don't interact with them. That has to mean they are enough of a threat to the Goa'uld that they either stay away from the Tollen, or have some kind of peace decree between them." Daniel went on.

"I didn't get the feeling the Tollen were very thankful for our help. What makes you think they would repay the favor, Dr. Jackson?" Hammond asked.

"Well, Omac wasn't a fan of ours, but Narim was, and some of the others were very grateful for us saving their lives. The fact is, we don't know what kind of power Omac really has with the Tollen government. He was the leader of the team left behind to bury the gate, but that doesn't mean he has any influence over treaties or allies." Daniel answered.

"Oh, I think the Tollen would come back here over Omac's dead body." O'Neill added.

"Can they come back? We didn't give them a code for the iris." Hammond reminded the team in front of him.

"Well, sir, the Tollen have the ability to walk through walls. I'm not quite sure our iris can hold up to that. And I'm sure, if they wanted, they could find a way to send a message to us as well." Carter inferred.

"I don't like the idea of people being able to walk through our iris, Captain."

"Nor do I sir, but we have absolutely no idea how their technology works. I couldn't even begin to devise a way to stop them. And they didn't leave any tech behind that I can use for a starting point."

"I see. Alright. Well, I've got a phone call with the president coming up about dear Maybourne's feelings getting hurt. I'll field that, but I'm putting you ALL on notice, not just Teal'c and Dr. Jackson, that aiding any restricted personal get through the stargate is not allowed under my Command. Understood?"

"Yes sir." The team chimed in as Hammond stood to go to his office.
