A/N: Hi, I know I'm getting a little lazy with my writing, but hopefully this fanfic will be finished soon. Thank you to everyone who is still reading, I appreciate it.
Chapter 9
Qui-Gon handed out blankets and various items of clothing he had found in a cupboard on his way to the common room, making sure his two young charges were wrapped up warm. The temperature on the ship was starting to drop rapidly. Apparently, the pilot was having little luck getting the ship going again. It was time they started thinking of other options.
"I'm going to see if I can get the communications up and running again," Qui-Gon finally decided after pacing up and down the common room, whether he did that because of nerves or the cold, he didn't know, but either way, he couldn't just sit still. He couldn't simply wait for the ship to die completely.
"Obi-Wan, I need you to go back to the cockpit and see if you can send a distress signal," Obi-Wan looked like he was going to protest for a moment, but Qui-Gon left no room for it, "Lesay, go and see if you can find any more blankets, alright?"
The young girl nodded but she shared a brief look with Obi-Wan.
"If anything happens, you know where to find me," Qui-Gon added and he was sure Obi-Wan looked a little annoyed. Without taking the time to address it, Qui-Gon walked out again.
Obi-Wan glanced towards the door, wondering whether his Master would be returning before taking Lesay's hand into his. She leant close to him, but he pulled back, adjusting the blanket around her shoulders.
"We have work to do…" He sighed.
Lesay nodded but there was a little pout on her lips. "But will you meet me here? In 20min?"
Obi-Wan hesitated. A soft touch to his cheek caused him to agree though.
…
Obi-Wan sat in the common area of the starship wearing a thick cloak over his tunic. He pulled another blanket around his shoulders but he could still feel the cold trying to break through. He wondered where Lesay was. She had promised she would meet him there. was she making him wait? Maybe something had happened to her, he thought with dread.
But Lesay soon entered the room and Obi-Wan jumped to his feet to meet her. His eyes widened in shock, she was only wearing her short white dress. She must be freezing! Without a second thought, he took off his cloak and held it so she could slip into the sleeves and then he wrapped his blanket around her shoulders.
"What were you thinking Lesay? It's freezing!" he exclaimed with concern.
"I know. It was the pilot, Obi-Wan. He stole my cloak." Lesay started crying and fell into Obi-Wan's arms.
He felt an anger fill him, he wanted to make the pilot pay. "Stay here." He said.
"Obi-Wan where are you going?" she asked with worry.
"To see the pilot" Obi-Wan replied plainly. No one had the right to treat Lesay like that. No one! But Lesay held his arm, it wasn't forceful but it stopped him in his tracks.
"No," she said softly, "stay." And with that Obi-Wan just let it go. The anger left him as fast as it had come. She held him in her gaze and he couldn't feel the cold anymore. The only thing he felt was her hand drifting slowly up his arm. He didn't move, he barely dared to breathe. Her hand reached his face and he leaned into her touch as she caressed his cheek.
"You owe me a kiss" she whispered. Obi-Wan didn't hesitate, he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close. She tilted her head upwards to meet Obi-Wan's lips.
This was always Lesay's favourite part. Obi-Wan was hers. He had been harder to crack than previous travellers she had come across, but she enjoyed the challenge. It added to the fun. Now she just had to decide what to do with him. She had him wrapped around her finger. She could get him to take care of Qui-Gon for her. But she had this young jedi right where she wanted him. He was more than willing to give her his life. Why shouldn't she take it? It was within her grasp, she couldn't wait. She would deal with Qui-Gon herself.
Lesay felt warmth spread though her body, a warmth she never got to feel any other way. Obi-Wan's lifeforce was passing into her and he wasn't even putting up a fight. She felt Obi-Wan's grip on her loosen as he got weaker.
To her surprise though he pulled away, a confused look on his face.
"Obi-Wan? What is it?" she asked softly, trying to sound concerned. But he wasn't falling for it. He took another step back and stumbled.
"What have you done to me?" he asked as he grabbed a table for support.
"Hmm," she said thoughtfully, tilting her head slightly as she studied Obi-Wan Kenobi, "I underestimated you."
Obi-Wan started shivering uncontrollably as he was finally hit by the cold. Lesay looked at him with what he knew was false compassion, "you're cold. I can make that go away, like I did before. If only you'd let me." She stepped towards him and he could hear her voice in his head, coercing him. But he wouldn't fall for it, not again.
"I would rather freeze" He growled, defiance flaring in his eyes.
Lesay considered that reply for a moment. Obi-Wan was willing to put up a fight now. That made it a whole lot harder, not impossible, just harder. Besides, who was she to deny a dying man's last request? She smiled cruelly. "So be it." And with that she left. Perhaps she could get something out of Qui-Gon before she left another starship to its fate.
Obi-Wan watched as she disappeared. He hadn't expected her to actually leave. He felt so weak and he could barely feel his body from the cold anymore. But he had to warn Qui-Gon, no doubt that was where Lesay was heading. With a final burst of strength, he pulled himself to his feet. And then he understood why Lesay had left. The life that was left in him probably wasn't worth the fight he was willing to put up for it. His legs gave way and he fell to the ground. His body had betrayed him and his mind was slipping away.
So, this is it, he thought as darkness took him and he fell into unconsciousness.
