Helloooo! Sorry my updating schedule is all over the place, I'm so sorry. But here's another chapter. If your still reading, it means so much to me. Thank you and I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Criminal Minds
JJ sat on the kitchen island. Her legs hung off the side, her shoes already on. She could walk out the door at this very second, and all she would have to do was lock the door. But nope, here she was. Waiting for Spencer to…..find something? She honestly couldn't even remember why they weren't leaving, but as he scrambled around the kitchen, all she could think of was how the time was ticking.
Sighing, JJ looked up through the small pieces of hair that she had pulled out of her ponytail. She watched his rummage through one of the kitchen draws completely, before bringing his gaze up to the counter in front of him. She could tell he was going to cross to the other side of the kitchens and so she brought her leg out. It stopped him right in his tracks.
"JJ!" he screeched.
"Spence we need to go." JJ said, bring her leg down and take his hands in here so that he couldn't just go back to running around the kitchen.
"But I was look-"
"Unless whatever your were looking for is keeping you from breathing," She said interrupting him "It can wait"
He sighed as he looked at her. Though he was slightly annoyed, stepping closer and bringing his hands up to her waist was just automatic. As was JJ pulling him closer by pulling on his cardigan.
"Sorry" JJ mumbled into his lips, "I didn't mean to get mad."
He knew she had meant no offense in her words. He also understood that he was in the wrong here, they needed to get to work. Spencer shook his head, to show that her statement had not caused him any hurt, and that he didn't have to apologize.
They don't really remember how it happened, however they had somehow gotten into a conversation. Actually I'm not sure if you could even call it a conversation. Spencer had said something, which reminded JJ of something else. Then somewhere along her explanation she had said something that made him blush, which very much piqued her interest, and so she placed a small kiss on his lips. Somehow, one peck led to two, and two to three, and three to four, and by now the number was so high, I'm not even sure a number that big existed.
This however, was not new to Spencer. He knew the kisses that ended in messy bed sheets, tangled limbs, moans of pleasure, and catching your breath. These were not those. These were the kisses that had started as either a kiss goodnight or a kiss goodbye, but then just a peck hadn't been enough and so you would go back for one more. And you would tell yourself that that was the last one, until it became a pattern of peck, kiss, pull back, peck, kiss, pullback. Once in a while you would squeeze a mumbled confession of love in there, then it would end with cuddling and giggling while watching some cartoon on the TV.
Nevertheless they need to go.
"Jayje, we really need to go"
She was hesitant to pull away, pull alas it had to be done. Still, an annoyed groan followed her actions. She hopped off the counter, brushing her hands over the top, turning around to face her partner.
"How do I look?" she asked.
Knowing very well why she was asking, (Just in case you were wondering why she was asking, it was because JJ hasn't washed her hair in like four days. She wanted to do it that morning, but didnt get up early enough. The night before had consisted of activities that hadn't allowed her to get too much sleep. It was not the first time she had to pay the price) he playfully rolled his eyes, taking her hand pulling her along as he made his way to the door.
"You look beautiful"
...
The day seemed to be going normal. JJ had made her way into the bullpen, a couple minutes after Spencer, not to raise suspicion. She had said hi to everyone, and then busied herself in her office. She opened the door to find her messy office. Stacks of files each plie a different height. It seemed to make cities out of paper. Scattered pencils lit up the streets like lampposts, paperclips drove back and forth, and sticky notes were like opened windows, as they stuck out of a building made of paper here and there. She had very much become accustomed to her mess. No matter how many times she tried completely tidying up the room, when she arrived in the morning people had had no care in keeping the room clean as they could when placing dozens of manila folders in there.
Her stomach was starting to remind her that, now it was almost lunch time. When thinking of file days, she never remembered about days like today. The days were so focused on work that mornings, even afternoons sometimes seemed to fly by.
A knock on the door took her from her thoughts. After calling out a 'come in' she was met with the stern face of her boss. Sorry, let me rephrase that. The normal face of her boss.
"Sir," she pondered, "Do we have a case?"
He gave her a firm head shake, barely stepping into the room.
"My office"
And with that she immediately dropped her things and set off behind him. She had an idea of what he wanted to talk about. The case on Saturday had really messed with her. Physically though. Her mental health was still quite intact, but the dizziness and headaches were present.
The rest of the team barely looked up when they entered the bullpen, used to Hotch talking to JJ about a case before calling the team to the round table, this time was most likely no different. However when he called for Spencer as they made their way up the catwalk, her breath hitched.
She just shrugged when Reid raised a confused eyebrow her way. She had a feeling on what was about to happen, and if there was any higher power out there, she was begging them to let this conversation not be what she thought it was. They had been so careful. Always coming in at different times, even when they came in the same car and had to just sit in there and wait a couple minutes. Their excuses on why their schedule was occupied was always believable. Almost always. They couldn't get caught now. What if one of them actually had to leave? She couldn't lose him? She wouldn't be able to bear it!
Hotch didn't let her mind wander for too long, because before she knew it, she and Spencer were seated and facing their boss. She felt like she was at the principal's office, about to get in big big trouble. Not that she knew how that felt. JJ was quite embarrassed of her goody-two shoes attitude during school but god how she wished that she had gone through it at least once. Maybe if she had she would have known how to hide the clear panic on her face.
"Do you know why I called you two in here?" Hotch asked, his voice just as harsh as he would make it when talking with an unsub.
He wasn't actually mad at either one of them, he was never as mad as he let off, but seeing the look on peoples faces was always priceless.
"I-I would assume for a case?" Spencer stuttered.
JJ kept quiet. Why was she panicking so much? If anything happened one of them would just have to change units. She would still see him, right? When Hotch shook his head no, Spencer's confusion only raised. He had absolutely no idea what was happening. He looked over at JJ, to see if either she had an answer or if she was just as confused as him. But he barely got to read her, because she brought her gaze back down to her lap the second that it met his.
And somewhere, in the abyss of his brilliant mind, waves or neurons or some sort of signal made something click. Realization hit hard then a punch.
Shit.
Hotch noticed as one of his agents searched his mind for what could be going on. When he finally seemed to connect the dots, he was met with a wide pair of hazel eyes. Reid was quick to look down, mirroring JJ's former actions. What was gonna happen now?
"I'm sure you have figured out why I asked you in here"
They both gave him a nod, not daring to open their mouths. This was even more fun than Aaron thought it would be. He had known that his yougent agents were bound to notice the chemistry between them sooner than later. Though he was due to give them a small scold and inform them to keep their relationship out of work, he needed to know when it started. He couldn't lose twenty dollars to Derek.
"You do understand that fraternization isn't allowed" Hotch stated
The two nodded, still not speaking one word. Hotch's voice wasn't the only thing either of them could hear. The sound of their thumping heart seemed to drown out the man's harshness a bit.
"This could get not one, but both of you kicked out of the unit"
This time they actually looked up. They both had previous knowledge on how their personal life could get one of them out of the unit, but this! This was new.
"But we keep our relationship out of work!" JJ yelped, her voice begging Hotch to understand. "We gave no reason for anyone to suspect anything, they can't just kick us out for nothing."
"You gave me enough reason to know something was going on" Aaron countered.
This time Reid was the one to speak up. He really thought that the unit chief would be more understanding. That he would at least try to talk to Struass about it.
"Well that's because you're a profiler Hotch, your job is to read people." Spencer exclaimed, leaning forward a bit, "You're our boss! Your job includes reading us!"
"If you two would please let me finish."
Aarons voice was calm, they could tell he hadn't been the smallest bit affected by the twos out birst. He was going to save them from having to explain more. Garica was probably going to embarrass them enough.
"First I need to know how long this has been going on"
He really didn't, but like I said, if he lost 20 bucks to Morgan, he would never live it down. JJ was the first to speak.
""7 months and-"
"-13 days" Spencer finished.
She even sent him a small smile before bringing her gaze back to Hotch.
"I don't need to remind you two that if your relationship gets in the way of work, I'll be the first to tell Struass"
They nodded.
"Well then," Hotch began, picking himself up from the chair and walking to the door, "Your free to go"
...
When the 3 walked out of the office, none of the other members of the team tried to hide their staring. The days when they actually tried to pretend they weren't conspiring seemed to be a lifetime ago. Though the other agents didn't seem to be searching for answers from them. No, they seemed to have their full attention on Hotch.
Spencer had already been seated when he actually looked up to the unit chief as well. He was expecting more questions. Mabey not to him, but both Emily and Garica were in the room. He had thought that they would have jumped on JJ for questions.
However their focus was on Aaron Hotchner and Aaron Hotchner only. For the second time that day, he was incredibly confused. New record.
"So?" Derek asked, his eye searching Hotch for any sort of answer.
Aaron had to hold in a laugh. He hadn't thought about how this would go down, but he didn't think it would be like this. Hotch cleared his throat before speaking.
"We owe Garcia 20 bucks"
And with that, actually Spencer wasn't really sure what broke loose. Everyone other than Emily sighed, he had just now noticed that Rossi had poked his head out of his office. Talking about Emily, she had picked up the phone on her desk the second the words left Hotch's mouth.
"What's goi-"
JJ didn't even get to finish her wondering before she was interrupted.
"Garica get you ass in here right now"
The words were ones you would hear when someone was mad at you, but the smile of the raven haired profiler and the tone in which she had spoken, had meant amusement only. In the seconds waiting for the colorful blonde to show up, Rossi had stepped out of his office and patted Reid on the shoulder.
"Didn't think you had it in you kid" he had said, and it was followed by a small chuckle.
JJ nor Spencer got to ask what was going on because Garica ran into the room, eyes wide and panic present on her face.
"What! What happened?!"
"Yo won the bet mama," Morgan replied, a grin spreading on his face, "Say hello to crisp 20's from each one of us"
And also for the second time that day, something in his brain clicked. Spencer's eyes quickly traveled the room before he buried his face in his hands. A rosy flush already painting his face. He should have expected this.
Garica squealed and Emily was not far behind her. As Penelope clapped her hands, she quickly made her way towards JJ. The same JJ who hadn't even made it down from the catwalk, she had been way too confused.
"Sir, if you don't mind, " Penelope beamed, taking JJ's hand and pulling her along with "We will be going out for lunch"
Just like that, two giddy agents, and one at loss with anything that was happening, made their way out of the bullpen. Reid didn't bring his head up from his hands when Hotch went back into his office, or when Rossi walked past him with a fresh cup of coffee. He knew for a fct that though JJ might be getting piled with questions at the moment, Morgan wouldn't let him escape from the fun too.
"Pretty boy!-"
And the rest was just a blur. And excruciatingly long blur, but nevertheless a blur. Maybe this is what hell is like.
Thank you for reading!
