Disclaimer: I own Kat and Ophelia.
"For the last time lass, I will not hurt ye," Foxy shouted in frustration at Kat. "I might smack around me crew but not ye."
Kat simply covered her eyes in an attempt to hide how tired she was. It was the same day after day, she would go to the corner and stay there unless Foxy called her over. The book Foxy let her grab would stay in her hands, almost as it were a comfort object to her.
The captain growled when he realized that shouting might not have been his best move. He decided the other day was a free pass, after all he had a reputation to withhold. He moved over to stand in front of Kat.
"Listen," he started while he attempted to keep his temper down. "I know you don't like it here; I know you'd rather be anywhere but here; but until I decide to let you go, you are here."
He went to place a hand on the girl's shoulder but decided against it. "I will not harm ye or the other girls; you will help me. When we find that treasure, perhaps I will let ye all go." He stopped to take a breath. "Do we understand each other?" He got a nod. "Good."
He spun around and stalked back to his table. It took all he had to not make a demand of her, but he knew he had to attempt to be patient.
"Okay."
Surprised, he turned around to look at Kat. He was almost convinced he imagined her speaking but given the surprised expression on her face, he knew she had spoken.
"Oh, um, good." He sputtered, he leaned back over the map. "Ye can come look; I won't bite ye." He glanced up at her. "I can only imagine how Springtrap treated ye, but I will not harm ye."
Hesitantly, the smaller redhead shuffled over. She placed the book on the table and leaned over to look over the map.
"Now, do you know if Springtrap was onto where the treasure was?" Foxy asked. "Did he ever actually listen to ye?"
Kat shrugged absentmindedly, her brows knitting together in concentration. She wasn't intentionally ignoring him; she was just focused on the map she had spent so much time studying. Not that she had much choice back then.
Down in the kitchen, Chica was taking her weekly inventory of food. She was sure that the crew was getting tired of vegetable soup but there was only so much she could do.
The girls weren't let off the ship when they made stops at ports to replenish on food or other supplies to their dismay.
They had decided to not complain and would look out onto the sea from the deck. Mike would join the girls when they were at port, the girls all liked his company. He was a genuine nice guy, which the girls found comforting.
Bonnie poked his head in to get an update. "What do we need?"
Chica pursed her lips together, taking in a last look through the box she was rummaging through. "Herbs, more chicken, a lot of meat."
The crewmate nodded in response before crossing his arms and leaning against the door frame. "Getting tired of vegetables, I'm sure." His tone was very amused.
The blonde nodded. "Very much." She turned back to the vegetables she was going to prepare. "But unfortunately, there's nothing I can do."
"I'll let the captain know," Bonnie promised.
"Why can't we go on shore when we stop?" Chica asked curiously. "We won't run off, promise."
Bonnie shrugged. "I'd have to ask the captain."
"We've been stuck at sea for years, getting off the ship for even an hour would be nice." The blonde started peeling carrots. "Can't remember the last time I felt sand under my toes or when we went into water." She tried to fight a yawn, but it ultimately won.
"You girls sure do yawn a lot." Bonnie noted. It didn't bother him, he couldn't help but notice.
"Well, we take turns sleeping on the bed so two of us are always tired." She shot a glance over at him. "But we didn't have a bed on the last ship, and we're used to sharing so we make the best of it."
Bonnie nodded firmly, taking note of this comment.
A few hours later, Chica had dinner ready and had Kat and Ophelia helping her serve. The crew muttered out thanks with Mike and Freddy giving the girls smiles of gratitude.
Surprisingly, Foxy was last in line. He took his plate from Chica and held her gaze. "You girls will be getting a new room." He dropped casually.
Ophelia started snickering but quickly stopped when she saw Foxy and Chica staring at her in confusion. Foxy left the room, mumbling about girls being strange under his breath.
"What was so funny?" Chica snapped at the older blonde.
"He likes you," Ophelia started laughing again. "It's clear." She gripped at her sides as she hunched over.
"No," Chica argued, hoping that she wouldn't start blushing.
"Yes."
"No, he doesn't." Chica crossed her arms in a huff.
The blondes turned to Kat. "Kat?" They chorused; eyebrows raised.
Looking amused, Kat giggled. "He asks me about you sometimes."
Chica sputtered looking bewildered. "You're supposed to be on my side!"
The redhead shrugged. "I'm on all our sides, I don't really say anything to him."
Victoriously, Chica smirked at Ophelia before grabbing her food. "By the way, Bonnie seems to enjoy when you come in here." She smiled when Kat started biting her lip.
A few weeks later, the girls had handed the food out before getting their owns plates and settling on the floor. They had fallen into the routine of getting up, doing their jobs, and eating together in the kitchen.
The room Foxy had offered to them that was bigger with two beds now when the girls lobbied to share a room to his confusion, one of the beds big enough for Kat and Chica to share.
There had been some changes, big and small, in the past few weeks. Ophelia found herself at ease around Freddy, someone so calm and kind that made her feel less and less like a prisoner. She didn't let her guard down but found him to be a calming existence along with Mike.
Chica had her routine with the three meals she made a day and noted in joy that she and the girls were looking less like walking skeletons and more like actual girls. Their faces were starting to fill out and she couldn't see Kat or Ophelia's bones anymore. She was delighted when everyone was in silence when eating her food and even more pleased when Foxy was ecstatic to eat her food though he tried to hide it.
Even Kat had moved on from nods and head shakes to making one worded remarks to Foxy and flinched less when he had his outbursts. She would even make small comments to Mike when he was in the binnacle with them, something that secretly delighted Foxy, who even let the girls have days off.
However, before the girls could get too far into their silence, Freddy appeared in the door.
"The captain requests that you join us up on deck tonight," he stated simply.
"Why?" Ophelia queried in a wary tone. "Is this some pirate trap?"
The brunet shrugged. "Don't know, but you'd be wise to not turn it down."
The trio of girls exchanged glances before gathering their plates and silverware and putting them aside.
"What do you think he's going to do?" Ophelia asked quietly.
"I don't know." Chica admitted, her curiosity getting her.
A/N: I hope this wasn't too bad.
