Chapter 8: Second Date
"Wow…" Drew breathed.
May just walked onto her balcony, wearing a pink dress with layers. She has pink heart earrings, dressy shoes, eyeshadow, lipstick, and nail polish on. She has her tiara. And of course she has the waistband with her scepter on. Let's just say...this look of May's caught Drew's attention more than it should.
"Like it?" May said, twirling her dress. "I know it's only a magic carpet ride, but it's still an official date. I had to look my best for the occasion." She added shyly. She tucked strands of hair behind her ear. "So umm...how do I look?"
"You...you look…" Drew started.
"Yes?"
"You look really beautiful...Princess."
May blushed. "Thank you."
Drew held out his hand to May and smiled. "Shall we get flying?"
May walked to Drew and took his hand. "We shall."
"Careful." Drew said as he helped May onto the magic carpet. He also has his guitar with him. Drew climbed onto the carpet after May.
May looked up at the sky. She stared at the stars.
"Okay, Carpet. Take it slow." Drew said. The carpet started flying May and Drew over the castle walls.
"The night is so pretty." May said.
"That's why it's perfect for a date." Drew said.
"Yeah." May said dreamily, staring at the stars.
"So...I actually have something to ask you." Drew said, turning around to face May.
May looked at Drew. "What is it? Is it my surprise?" She asked excitedly.
"Surprise? Who said anything about a surprise?"
"Well...I was kinda thinking that you implied that you have a surprise for me tonight when we talked yesterday before school."
"Well, fine." Drew said. "I guess you could say it's a surprise." He said, positioning his guitar to play.
May smiled, looking at the guitar. She looked up at Drew. He started strumming a beat, looking at the neck of the guitar.
(This song is "10,000 Hours" by Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber. There's changed lyrics.)
"Do you love the rain? Does it make you dance when you're with all your friends at a party?" Drew sang. "What's your favorite song? Does it make you smile? Do you think of me?" Drew looked up at May in the eyes.
"When you close your eyes," Drew continued. May closed her eyes. "Tell me, what are you dreamin'? Everything, I wanna know it all."
May opened her eyes. "I'd spend 10,000 hours and 10,000 more." Drew sang. "Oh, if that's what it takes to learn that sweet heart of yours." May smiled and blushed slightly. "And I might never get there, but I'm gonna try. If it's 10,000 hours or the rest of my life, I'm gonna love you." May's blush deepened at Drew's words.
"Do you miss the road that you grew up on?" Drew sang. "Do you ever feel scared of your future? When you think about your forever now, do you think of me?"
"When you close your eyes, tell me, what are you dreamin'?" Drew sang. "Everything, I wanna know it all."
"I'd spend 10,000 hours and 10,000 more." Drew continued. "Oh, if that's what it takes to learn that sweet heart of yours. And I might never get there, but I'm gonna try. If it's 10,000 hours or the rest of my life, I'm gonna love you."
May looked down below them. They're flying above a city that's illuminated in lights. "I'm gonna love you." Drew sang.
May looked at Drew again. The carpet flew higher up. "Ooh, want the good and the bad, everything in between." Drew stopped playing the guitar, music still playing in the background. He reached his hand out and gently touched May's lips with his pointer finger. "Ooh, gotta cure my curiosity." He sang, slowly moving his finger down her lips. He brought his hand back to the guitar and started playing it again. May's face is a scarlet red now after Drew touched her lips and basically told her that he's curious about them. "Ooh, yeah."
"I'd spend 10,000 hours and 10,000 more." Drew sang. "Oh, if that's what it takes to learn that sweet heart of yours. And I might never get there, but I'm gonna try. If it's 10,000 hours or the rest of my life, I'm gonna love you."
"I'm gonna love you." Drew repeated. "And I...I'm gonna love you. I...I'm gonna love you." He finished the song.
It stayed silent. The magic carpet stopped moving. They're above the castle, hundreds of feet in the air. They continue staring into each other's eyes.
"Wow…" May breathed. "That was...really sweet, Drew. I loved that song."
"Then…" Drew started. "My question to you is...would you like to be my date for Homecoming?"
May smiled. "I'd love to."
Drew pulled out a rose and placed it in May's hair. "I'm glad."
May blushed and turned her body to face the city down below them, hanging her feet off of the carpet. Drew turned his body around like May and they both stared up at the stars.
"So...this is your most favorite part of our nighttime dates, huh." Drew said.
May hummed a no while shaking her head. "My most favorite part...is being with you."
"Well, I'm honored, Princess."
"...Drew, about the song…" May started. She blushed again. "When you touched my lips with your finger...what did you mean by that line?"
"Well...I'm just...curious is all." Drew answered.
May looked at Drew. "About what?"
Drew looked at May. "You."
"M-me?" May asked, blushing a scarlet red. "W-what do you mean by that?"
"Nothing. I'm just curious about you."
"Like...my personality?"
"Sure. Let's go with that." Drew said.
"You're not telling me exactly what you're curious about."
"And?"
"And I want to know." May said. "You already know about my personality, so what else could you possibly want to know?"
Drew chuckled. "I don't know everything about you inside and out. We haven't been dating for that long, remember? So just accept the answer that I'm just curious to know about you."
May sighed. "Fine. But I think there's a different reason."
("There is a different reason…") Drew thought. ("I guess I'm just curious to taste you. But all in good time will that special moment come.")
They both looked up at the stars again.
"Drew." May said.
"Yeah?" Drew questioned.
"Thank you for taking me on a second date like I wanted."
"You're welcome."
At that moment, a streak of white flew through the sky.
May gasped. "A shooting star!"
"Make a wish." Drew said.
"Okay." May closed her eyes and brought her hands together in a praying position. ("I wish...to live happily ever after with the one who loves me inside and out.")
At the same time that May was making her wish, Drew was also making a wish upon the star. ("I wish...to always be together with May because I love her more than anything.") Drew said in his head.
They both opened their eyes and looked at each other. "Did you make a wish?" Drew asked.
"Yeah. You?" May asked.
"I made a wish, but I don't really believe in the whole wish-upon-a-star-and-it-will-come-true thing."
"Aww...why not?"
"Because I just don't. It's kinda silly to just wish upon a star and whatever you wished will come true. I don't believe in that kind of thing."
"Well…" May started. "I believe that mine will come true." She said, looking into Drew's eyes.
"Whatever you wished for...I'm sure it will."
They both looked back up at the stars.
"Can I ask you some questions? You know...just to get to know more about you." Drew said.
"Sure." May answered.
"Okay. What do you like about your loyal subjects?"
"Oh. That's an easy one. I like everything about them." May answered. "I like their friendship with Pokémon, their energy level, their creativeness, their kindness…" May paused before continuing. "But mostly, I like their smiles."
"Their smiles?" Drew questioned.
"Yeah. I make it my job to keep Hoenn's citizens happy." May said. "Especially Petalburg of course, because I hardly leave to the other cities. But I always love to make the people happy and to see them smile. I guess you could say...it's what makes me a great Princess."
Drew smiled. "Okay. Next question. If you were to travel to one certain place anywhere in the world as sort of a vacation, where would you go?"
"Hmm...my dream vacation…" May said. "Lumiose City."
"Why there?"
"Because it's so pretty at nighttime." May said dreamily. "Every building is illuminated in lights, including Prism Tower. And I wish to one day go to the top of Prism Tower and see the view from up there. Must be an amazing sight."
"Wow. I can see why you'd want to go there." Drew said.
"Yeah…" May said. ("But hopefully I can go with you.") She thought.
"Last question for tonight." Drew said. "This is kind of a weird one, but...do you...like being Princess?"
May looked at Drew. "What do you mean?"
Drew looked at May. "You know...I'm sure there's a lot of things that the heir to the throne does. Do you like your job?"
"Well...when I became a teenager, I didn't." May said. "That's when I was first told about the rule that I have to marry a Prince." She said sadly.
"Oh." Drew said sadly.
"That was then, and this is now." May said, smiling. "I may sometimes be really busy with Princess work, but I really love being Princess. And it's all thanks to you."
"I didn't do anything."
"Yes you did. You stole my heart." May said. Drew smiled. "You changed my Dad's mind on his rule because you love me. You're the one who set me free. And I thank you for that."
"Well...I guess you're welcome."
"You really...changed my life in the best way possible ever since I met you. And also, about the heir to the throne thing, I try not to think about my future as Queen. Because when I do, I get really nervous and...scared even."
"Scared?"
"Yeah. I feel scared that I might fail as Queen. I might make all of the wrong decisions. And I imagine myself in the future, messing up everything, and the people start hating me, and-"
Drew placed a hand on May's shoulder, cutting her off. "Let's just...not talk about it, okay?"
May smiled and nodded. "Okay. Thanks for understanding."
"What are boyfriends for?" Drew asked, pulling his hand back to him.
May blushed. "Honestly, the whole 'Boyfriend' thing is still new to me. You are my very first boyfriend after all."
"And you're my very first girlfriend." Drew said. "We'll both get used to it."
"Thank you for the wonderful date." May said.
Drew just dropped her off at her balcony. He's now standing on the magic carpet on the other side of the railing and he's at eye level to May.
"You're welcome, Princess." Drew said.
"I'll see you at school."
"Wait." Drew said.
"What is it?"
Drew reached his hand out and brushed May's cheek, tucking strands of hair behind her ear. He then leaned into May and moved his head to the left, placing a kiss on her right cheek. May blushed at the contact. Drew backed away and smiled at May's red face.
"I love you." Drew said.
"I love you too." May said. She then watched as Drew started flying away on the carpet, her face still red.
