Everyone started to stand around him, then Irving got his penlight out of his scrub's pocket opened Conrad eyes one by one putting the light near his eye side to side, to see what they look like then he turned at Aj with a little worry looked.
"his pupils…are blown" Irving told Aj, Aj put his out hand out for the penlight Irving gave it to Aj so he did the same thing as Irving he got the same
"We are taking him upstairs to the OR" Aj told everyone they all moved the bed and pulled the machine with them as well, as soon they left the room, they started to rush to elevator
*6 hours later*
Pushing the bed out of the OR room down the hall away to the elevator then to the ICU, Conrad is still intubated in they are all going to wait until he wakes up Irving is sat in the room where Conrad is sleeping then Cain came in the room looking at his chart Irving looked at her
"what's the news" Irving queried to Cain, Cain looked over to him
"have you got hold of his parents" Cain questioned Irving
"while he was in the OR I tried to ring his dad he's not picking up at the moment, but I can keep trying until he I get hold of mine, but his mum died when he was in fighting over Afghanistan" Irving yapped to Cain
"I don't need a lecture about his life, so until you get hold of his father you will be his proxy?" Cain told Irving
"yes, I will until I get hold of him but now what is the news on him since I am the proxy" Irving protested to Cain
"he is showing intracranial pressure I put in a drain did a post-on op CT and there was no bleed but there are signs of swelling I will check him every hour" Cain confirmed to Irving, Cain turned around and walked off. Then Irving saw Nic popping by he got up
"what are you doing here Nic" Irving demanded from Nic
"I want to see how he's doing" Nic comforted to Irving
"well like you can see he's not doing well" Irving raged at Nic
"I want try and make up from last time but only if he was wake" muttered Nic
"what every went on with you and Conrad is for after he gets better not before" Irving explained to Nic, Cain came walking back to the with Aj and Devon
"Irving I got his labs back," Cain told Irving
"and what does it say" Irving coaxed Cain
"his icp has been increasing over the last few hour, we need to get him back into surgery to control the swelling" Cain announced to everyone
"well, isn't he still recovering from the last surgery I would suggest if we go forward maybe go with a nonsurgical only because he still very fragile" Nic guessed to Cain
"We have been doing that, medical management it not cutting it…. We need to move onto surgical options do you really want him to have irreversible brain damage. The next step is a decompressive hemicraniectomy, temporarily pop off a piece of his skull and allowing his brain room to expand" Cain lectured to everyone
"he's febrile and have you seen her post-op CBC his platelets are critically low witch makes a craniectomy far riskier I think we still have time left to advance him the best we can before going back in for another surgery" Aj exasperated to Cain
"all right so everyone listens to the Attending of Cardiothoracic, General and
Trauma Surgeon I'm neurosurgeon he is not a neurosurgeon" Cain bellowed to everyone
"I know you are the neurosurgeon, but I have knowledge of the facts of him what's going on in his body and we can't give hold of Conrad's father, so Irving is his proxy so it's him or me who decide what happens to him next" Aj confess to Cain
"what about if put him in a barbiturate coma that will give us a chance to control the swelling while he recovers from the trauma of the surgery he just went through" Devon wondered to Cain
"now an intern speaks really Maybe everyone should have a voice at Chastain, so it looks like we are doing the barbiturate coma when he does dies it will be on you" Cain protested to everyone and then pointed at Irving he got really annoyed walked off
"nurse can thiopental 10mg every 30 minutes put to 3 hours" Cain asked a nurse
"yes doctor" she smiled at him and Cain walked away. The nurse was walking on the computer went over to the med cupboard and got thiopental and drew out 25mg through Cain said that much and went to Conrad room and put the 25mg in his iv then she put it down on the tablet, she did is 6 time she triple the time of sleeping .
4 hours later Devon went and check on him and notice his blood pressure is going low he walked over to the nurse.
"can you page Dr Aj and Dr Cain" Devon asked the nurse she nodded her head 10 minutes later Aj came in
"what's up Pravesh" Aj inquired to Devon
"his blood pressure is 90/60mm it's not 120/80 mm as well how much of thiopental should be given to him" Devon worried to Aj, Aj look at his blood pressure and look at his chart to see how much mg he been given he had a very worried look on his face
"The reason his blood pressure is that low because thiopental should not be 25mg it should be 10mg every 30 minutes for 3 hours" Aj shuddered at Devon, Devon pulled out his stethoscope to listen to Conrad heart to see if it slowed down or not lucky it did not
"Can we try and wake him up" Devon asked Aj
"no, we cannot wake his in a coma may be few months," Aj told Devon, Nic came she got Conrad added to her list of patients got the table in her hand but as she came in, they have a look of worry on their faces she looked at them
"what's up," she asked them, they all looked at each other with bad news faces
"well, we got bad news, one of the nurses put too much thiopental for we are having a guess he might be in a coma for 4 months" Devon blubbered to Nic, he can see she is crying without making a sound
"how can one of the nurse can make mistake like that" looking about and sat down on a chair what is right before her then crying little more" what does cain said about this" she asked Devon
