Sasaki's POV

A week had passed since the raid on Overhaul's hideout. The heroes had recovered from their injuries, minor in comparison to the ones on the other side. Many were still confused as to why the other mafia families had teamed up with them. Not that they argued against the results. There would have been a larger number of casualties if it wasnt for their cooperation.

All of it was thanks to one child, a boy with green hair and bright green eyes. The one called Izuku. A name that had been said in the heat of the moment to try and bring a child back to themselves. From what he understood the fallen member of the Vanetti family had been like a father to the child. It was little wonder he had taken his death at the hands of Overhaul so hard.

As a whole, the heroes who had seen it agreed to keep the child's involvement a secret. They knew what the Hero Commission would do if they learned of his existence. With a quirk like his, they would try to take advantage of it. Force the boy into a corner that he couldn't get out of. Mafia or not they didnt want to see that happen.

Mirai was on his way to a called meeting at the Hero Commission building. From what he heard most of the heroes that were apart of the raid. However, it was only the heroes who were loyal to the Commission that were being called. This was something he had confirmed when he spoke with Aizawa earlier. The underground hero was not being called in. In fact, none of the underground heroes even knew what was happening.

It was as if the Commission were trying to completely cut out the underground. If it was true they were making an enemy out of those heroes. Despite what some heroes thought the underground heroes made everything run smoothly. Without them, people wouldn't be able to go out at night. Informants would be too scared to share information.

Mirai fully believed that the Commission was making a mistake in whatever this meeting was about. Just because heroes were loyal to the Commission didnt mean that they didnt have doubts. Or that some were faking being loyal to make sure things were being run as they should.

Mirai honestly stood halfway on both sides. He could see the faults in some of the Commission's actions. At the same time, he was willing to do work for them as long as he understood what he was doing. So far he had not been asked to go against his principles.

One of the biggest things he disagreed with was their actions of Keigo Takami as known as the Pro Hero Hawks. As a child, the young hero had been given up to the Commission. Given his "heroic" quirk the boy had been trained. No one knew of the methods used but it left a lasting impression on the hero.

What worried him was the subtle flinches he had seen when Hawks met with his Commission contact. If he hadn't been looking for it Mirai would have completely missed it. Everything about the young hero became forced around the Commission's contact.

Unlike with most situations his gut instinct wasnt enough to act on. Without proof, he couldn't go to the other heroes without risking the chance of the Commission finding out he didnt trust their actions. So he did what any good hero would do. He watched and waited biding his time for the perfect chance to strike.

Upon entering he was greeted by one of the Commission's agents. After checking his license he was taken to a briefing room. Seven other heroes were in the room waiting along with an official. Fatgum was the only one who greeted him but it was to be expected. They had worked on many large cases together. They paired well when given the chance. Still, it was a greeting he returned with a polite nod.

A door opened and one of the higher-ups of the Commission entered. Every hero no matter their rank or belief sat a little straighter. It wasnt often one of these came to visit.

The man said nodding to each of them in turn, "Welcome each of you. Thank you for coming to this meeting."

"Thank you for having us," intoned each of the heroes dryly. None of them wanted to be there but they wouldn't show it.

The man tiredly rubbed his eyes as he continued, "Alright for why we are all here. Since the fall of the Yakuza and Overhaul, we have begun to prepare for another raid. This time however it isn't against just one family. It is against all 12 of the remaining families."

Unease filled each of the heroes as they exchanged glances. All 12 families? It was hard enough to bring down just one of them.

The man sighed noting the looks, "I understand your unease going against all 12 families. Be at ease this group will only be going against one of the families. We have other teams fighting the other 11 families."

Files were then handed out to each of them. Knowing the drill he opened the files to have familiar faces staring back at them. Well, damn it. They were going go to be fighting the Vanetti family. Which meant they would be seeing the boy again.

Rock Lock asked finally, "Why now? Going after the families were never a priority before. On top of that, you dont even have our inside man with the Vanettis here. Even with these files we dont know much about the family or the traps they have laid in their compounds."

The agent answered honestly, "We believe that they are not in fact set up in a compound like the other families. Instead, the Vanettis run out of a bar that has as many entrances and exits as a compound. There are thought to be secret tunnels known only to a select few of the higher-ups but this is unconfirmed. Our goal is to take down Nero Vanetti and his counsel. We want to capture as many of them as possible. Understood?."

Well alright then. This was going to be interesting if they could actually close in on the family. Would the child be able to get away? He hoped so. They didnt want to hand him over to the Commission.

"Understood," was their reluctant response.

Izuku's POV

A week had passed since he met Bakugo for the first time since his abandonment. Things had pretty much gone back to normal. Nero was looking to fill the hole within his council. To the young teenager, he could see the glances that he was being given. Despite his youth, everyone thought Nero would ask him.

No matter if he was asked Izuku would deny taking the position. He didnt want it. For one he was way too young to be one of the commanders. For another, it wouldn't feel right taking his father figure's position.

As per his normal routine, Izuku was at the bar sipping at his rum. Around him, other members of the family were doing the same. The mood was much more subdued than it once was. No one felt like celebrating or even being loud. They still felt the loss of Nao.

One face was notably missing from the crowd. Keigo Takami had been nowhere to be found for the last week. Ever since the raid he had completely disappeared. No one had heard from him either. It was suspicious, to say the least. If he had been captured by heroes they would have heard something on the news. Yet it was dead silent.

Izuku was beginning to have his doubts about the winged man. By all rights, he should be here with the rest of them. It annoyed Izuku that he couldn't get a hold on the man.

A slam of a door drew his attention away from his drink. One of their information gathers at the doorway. He was soaked to the bone from the rain outside.

Really the man should change before he catches a cold. Izuku was turning away to go back to his drink when something caught his eyes. Not all of the droplets were of the normal see-through of water. Some, particularly on his left side just above his hip were pink. The shirt he was wearing was not white as it should have been. But like the droplets coming off of him, it was pink with blood. A second later he collapsed.

Izuku stood and rushed over the other's side as he called out, "Get the doctor!"

The man grabbed his hand and said, "No you have to get out of here. They are coming."

Izuku questioned pressing his hands into the wound, "What do you mean? Who's coming?"

"The heroes," replied the man, "They are attacking the families. You have to get Nero and the others out."

Izuku froze in surprise. The heroes were attacking? Why now?

Then he snapped out of it yelling, "Everyone we are about to be attacked! Battle positions!"

That had everyone moving and one of his men taking over in treating the informant. Izuku switched positions and headed towards the basement. He knew they would defend the bar with their lives.

As he hit the stairs he could hear the angry yells. Damn, they didnt have long then to get Nero out of here. He was halfway down the stairs when Daniel came to see what was going on.

Izuku snapped, "Get to the tunnels! We are under attack!"

Daniel's eyes widened before he nodded and turned back towards the other. Izuku took the stairs three at a time until he was in the basement. The room shook a second later dust fell upon them.

Nero questioned seeing blood on his hands, "Are you injured?"

"The blood isn't mine," he replied, "It's one of our men who risked everything to warn us. We need to get you out of here."

Nero nodded as he said, "Right to the tunnels."

Izuku made his way over to the false wall that had a panel. Only those who were high up on the ladder could access the panel. He pressed his hand against the panel and it beeped. The wall opened allowing them to pass.

Izuku was the first inside to ensure there wasnt anyone waiting for them. Nero followed him along with the others. The only one who didnt enter the tunnels was Daniel.

Daniel said when Izuku hesitated, "Go. I'll hold them back as long as I can."

"But..."

Daniel snapped, "Go that's an order, Izuku. We all knew this was going to happen one day. Nero has a plan and all you need to do is trust us."

Izuku did trust Nero so he followed the plan despite not knowing what it was. One by one they passed doors and with each door, one of their own would stay behind. They would hold off the heroes as long as they could but eventually, they would be overwhelmed. As the one with the Erasure quirk, he would be the last line of defense. Not that he had a problem with that he would not hesitate to give his life for Nero.

As the two approached the final door Izuku one last time pressed his hand against the panel. As he stepped inside to ensure that one last time it was safe for Nero to continue on he felt the security door shut. Horror filled him as he swung back around to look at the door. It couldn't be opened from his side something that was programmed into every door to ensure the safety of the bar.

Izuku shouted, "Nero the door shut! You need to open it from your side."

Nero's voice came through the door softer but firm in his command as the tunnels shook, "I'm sorry if only one of us can go on. It has to be you."

What?! NO! He refused to accept that. There had to be another way that didnt involve Nero Nero himself.

Izuku slammed his fist into the door, "DON'T DO THIS! WE CAN STILL GO ON AS PLANNED! NERO! We can still figure this out!"

Izuku could hear the smile on the other's face as he replied, "There is nothing left to figure out here. You were never meant for this world of thieves and conmen. At your very core, you're still the little boy who wanted to be a hero. So go be a hero Izuku. I believe in you."

Tears welled up in the green eyes as he tried to deny, "I cant! I'm apart of the Vanetti family. You promised that I would always have a place. I dont have a life without this family."

"Make a new family, Izuku," ordered Nero, "The mafia families were never meant to stay around forever. With the fall of their Yakuza, we knew this was coming. It was simply a matter of time. You just have to do the very thing you taught me to do. Never give up and keep pushing forward. To believe that there is always hope. You will make an excellent hero one day. That self-sacrificing nature will get you in trouble though. Work on it and learn a balance. To see you grow and reach your full potential I have to stay. You have to go."

Izuku cried, "I can't..."

"You can. I believe in you. This won't be the last we see of each other. Just promise you won't let them change you. Keep moving forward and make your mark on our world. That's all I ask."

"Nero! DONT DO IT!"

There were no other words expressed instead the ground began to shift. The tunnels had changed since the last time he had been in them. It seemed he didnt have a choice as the floor a moving pad much like what they used in malls or airports. He was being drawn away from the fighting towards a different life. A life he didnt want but didnt have a choice. Nero had given him one final order. But where would he go?
