-Chapter 16-
-Cassandra pov-
I've been living with my girlfriends family for a few weeks now. It's been great just...well I have something I wasn't ready for. Like actually having people care about you.
I couldn't tell you the last time someone took care of me when sick. I felt so bad for getting Judy sick after but they said it was fine and we helped her out. IT IS A CIRCLE OF HEPING! Everyone helped everyone!
It was amazing to be apart of. Now life is going back down for me. My mom is in the city for the dance competition. My mom has never really been involved in my life too much.
She always would be out late and leaving me with my aunt. My aunt was more of a mom than my mom. We never had much that wasn't borrowed from my mom. It absolutely sucked!
Now I'm looking around trying to be careful. I don't wanna see her and I don't want her to ruin what I have going! She's a snake in the grass and I hate her so much. I just wish she'd stop visiting me.
"Cass the girls are wanting to practice" I turn toward Shelby and nod "Come on!"
I follow her to the girls and look at the time. She hasn't shown up and we are getting closer to the beginning. Maybe I'm getting my wish! Maybe she really isn't going to show.
-Time skip-
It's time for the competition to begin and we are clear! She's no where near me! This is the best day ever!...so why do I feel guilty? She always comes on this day.
I look out at the crowd and see her seat is empty. She always buys the same ticket and the people have saved it. I've helped Brody gets some spots in this competition. She always is sitting the same spot.
"You ok?" I turn toward a worried looking Emma "You look tense"
"Yeah" I look back to the crowd and then Emma "Let's go to the girls and get ready"
-Time skip-
It's time for the girls to do their dance sets. It starts with Rachel, goes to tango with Britt and Santana, and finishes with Pamela leading the others. I tap Rachel's shoulder and she steps out.
She does her slow dance around and creates the transition. Brittany and Santana tango onto the stage as the music picks up. Once the music moves again the rest of the group heads out. The crowd claps and I smile.
I lose it when I look out again. The chair is still empty. There's no one sitting in it. I look around just in case and she's not there. I sigh and walk to the green room with the girls.
I stop once through the door. On a table is a vase with flowers in it. They aren't the best but they are flowers. I walk over and grab the card. I feel tears start to form as I read.
'I know you don't wanna see me so I'm not going to push myself on you. I'm so happy you've gotten to finally teach and be who you wanna be! You're such a good girl! You've always been a good girl.
I never did apologize for all the things I missed. When your dad left I had to do so many jobs. We never had enough money but I worked all I needed to for you. Your clothes never were the best but I wanted to give you what I could.
Your aunt always told me what you wanted so I could try my best. So I'm sorry I was never there for you growing up. I thought I could make up for it but I guess I'm too late.
I love you baby girl,
Mom'
"Cass?" I feel Maribels hand on my shoulder "You ok?"
"I gotta find her" I run out of the room and look at everyone I run past "MOM!"
I run around until I end up outside. I look around out of breath. My mom is gone now. She left and it's my fault. I did this.
She only ever wanted to be apart of my life. For the past number of years I've made it hell for her. She's always had to sleep on the couch or in a chair. I always had Brody stay in the spare bed.
"Are you lost mam?" I turn and see Shelby helping a homeless looking lady "You need some help?"
"No I just came to give my daughter some flowers" She smiles "I've never had money but I finally got enough for her! You know she was a teacher here tonight! She's such a great girl and I just hope she has a good life"
"Mom?" The lady looks up at me and I see who it is past the dirt "Y-you didn't go back to Virginia?"
"I had no money" She looks down at the ground "I lost it all a long while ago Cass"
I walk over to her "Why didn't you tell me?" She doesn't respond or look at me "Why didn't you tell me mom?"
"Cause you were happy" Mom looks up with tears falling down "I didn't wanna make you upset with me..more than you were"
"I think we should go to dinner like we had planned" Shelby gives me a smile "We can catch up there"
I nod and have mom follow me. We drive to a nice restaurant to celebrate our win. I guess I missed the announcements. We get to the restaurant and I get out with my mom.
We walk in a mom shrinks backwards some. I look and see the looks that the people are giving. I put a arm around my mom and walk to the host. He looks at my mom and then me.
"How can we hel~"
"I'll take them" A man walks up and gives a sickly fake sweet smile "You do understand our food is..expensive right? I think you'd be better at a McDonald's or something else"
"I think you best let me do my job Darrel" The other host pushes the man out of the way "How many people?"
"Twenty-six" He nods and grabs menus "We don't wanna be any trouble"
"You're no trouble at all" the man walks ahead of us "Follow me please!"
We follow him to a huge table and sit down. I notice people talking and see my mom looking ready to breakdown. I glare at some people and they turn away. After a few minutes a man walks over.
"This is a fancier restaurant than where she should be" The man walks toward my mom "I think she should leave"
"Touch my customer and you will be banned for life" We all look at a man and woman walking toward us "Understand me sir?"
"She doesn't belong here!" The man steps toward the duo "She is homeless trash!"
"She is a lovely woman who is obviously out with family" The woman smirks "Seems to love working harder than you do...I wonder what you do for a living?"
"You just lost a loyal customer" The man walks back to his table "We are leaving"
"Sorry about all of that" The man turns toward us "Please enjoy your dinner tonight!"
"Thank you" They nod and I look at my mom "Thank you for the flowers too"
"They weren't the best but it's what I could afford" My mom gives a confused look "What's wrong?"
"I just noticed some of your girls!" The man has a huge smile on his face "They were here for nationals!"
"Yes they were" Rachel stands up with a smile "We won it too!"
"I know" The man claps happily "We have to have you perform! Dinner on the house if you do now!"
"Sounds good" The girls glare at Rachel who pouts "For me? Please?!"
"Fine" The Vocal Adrenaline girls get up "Lead on"
The man cheers and leads the girls to the stage. They talk with the band and get their song picked out. We watch as they all smile as Rachel cheers. She loves to perform.

You know how people
have these little habits
That get you down. Like Bernie.
Bernie like to chew gum.
No, not chew. POP.
So I came home this one day
And I am really irritated, and I'm
looking for a bit of sympathy
and there's Bernie layin'
on the couch, drinkin' a beer
and chewin'. No, not chewin'.
Poppin'. So, I said to him,
I said, "you pop that
gum one more time..."
and he did.
So I took the shotgun off the wall
and I fired two warning shots...
...into his head.
•He had it coming
He had it coming
He only had himself to blame•
•If you'd have been there
If you'd have heard it
I betcha you would
Have done the same!•
I met Ezekiel Young from
Salt Lake city about two years ago
and he told me he was single
and we hit it off right away.
So, we started living together.
He'd go to work, he'd come home, I'd
fix him a drink, We'd have dinner.
And then I found out,
"Single" he told me?
Single, my a*. Not only
was he married
...oh, no, he had six wives.
One of those Mormons, you know. So that
night, when he came home from work, I fixed him
his drink as usual.
You know, some guys just can't hold
their arsenic.
•Hah! He had it coming
He had it coming
He took a flower
In its prime
And then he used it
And he abused it
It was a murder
But not a crime!•

Now, I'm standing in the kitchen
carvin' up the chicken for dinner,
minding my own business,
in storms my husband Wilbur,
in a jealous rage.
"You been screwin' the milkman,"
he says. He was crazy
and he kept screamin',
"you been screwin the milkman."
And then he ran into my knife.
He ran into my knife ten times.."
•If you'd have been there
If you'd have seen it
I betcha you would have done the same!•
Mit keresek, én itt? Azt mondják,
hogy a híres lakem lefogta a férjemet én meg
lecsaptam a fejét. De nem igaz, én ártatlan
vagyok. Nem tudom miért mondja
Uncle Sam, hogy én tettem. Probáltam
a rendőrségen megmagyarázni de nem értették meg...
Yeah, but did you do it?
UH UH, not guilty!
'My sister, Veronica and
I had this double act
and my husband, Charlie,
traveled around with us.
Now, for the last number in
our act, we did 20 acrobatic tricks in a row
one two three four, five...splits, spread eagles,
back flips,flip flops,
one right after the other.
Well, this one night we were in the hotel Cicero,
the three of us,
boozin' and
havin' a few laughs
and we run out of ice.
So I go out to get some.
I come back, open the door
and there's Veronica and
Charlie doing Number Seventeen-
the spread eagle.'
'Well, I was in such a state of shock,
I completely blacked out.I can't remember a thing.
It wasn't until later,
when I was washing the blood off my hands
I even knew they were dead.'
•They had it coming
They had it coming
They had it coming all along
I didn't do it
But if I'd done it
How could you tell me that I was wrong?•

I loved Alvin Lipschitz
more than I can possibly say.
He was a real artistic guy...
sensitive... a painter.
But
He was always trying
to find himself.
He'd go out every night
looking for himself
and on the way
he found Ruth,
Gladys,
Rosemary and Irving.
I guess you can say we broke
up because of artistic differences.
He saw himself as alive
and I saw him dead.*

Everyone claps in the restaurant. The girls bow and the man starts talking to them. I smile as they all smile they are good girls. They are so talented and are going to be big here.
"You have a good family and support here" I turn to my mom and smile "You've done good"
"Thanks" I look at the girls and then my girlfriends "They've been great"
I hope everything stays this nice forever.
