Chapter 9
Addi POV
Addi woke early the next morning. She was too excited about the Cullen kids finally knowing the truth to remain asleep. It quickly became apparent that Bella too was excited to awaken that morning. A grin was splitting the younger girl's face, Addi was almost worried something would break. When asked what was up, Bella would say nothing, instead a bright blush would stain all over her face and down her neck.
Charlie had left early that morning, there had been an increase of animal attacks coming towards Forks from Port Angeles. The only Swan that knew the truth of those deaths was the resident dimension traveller, Charlie was sure it was a bear or something and Bella was just worried about Charlie. Despite Addi's reassurances that Charlie would be okay and nothing would happen, Bella would always look worried when he left to go and track the 'animal'. Thankfully, that particular morning Bella was in a daze, thinking about her encounter with Edward the previous day. Bella would also ditch today whilst she was stuck in classes, gross. But it was Friday, meaning that in theory everyone was more relaxed. Hopefully that combined with her friends the day would go by quickly.
When Edward pulled up Bella was almost jumping in excitement. Not that Addi could blame her too much, teens in love. What could you do? Edward had offered her a lift, but it was almost impossible to see the suspicion that marred his face. She declined, knowing the entrance he wanted to make with Bella wouldn't be as good if she was there. She was happy taking the truck, it would give her time to herself. She was a social person but every now and again alone time was a blessing. She was only sad that she didn't have her phone to hand, she had more music she liked on there. Some of her favourite music wouldn't even be dreamed up until ten years later. A pity, but thankfully the 2000's had some good music, in her opinion at least. She couldn't wait for Low by Flo Rider to come out so her and Emmet could mess around to it. It would embarrass Rose but it would be damn fun.
When she pulled into the lot she saw Edward and her sister not far from the doors with everyone staring at them, both human and vampire. She grinned. She felt somewhat bad for getting amusement from Bella's embarrassment, but like Edward said, since she was going to hell…
Walking over to the Cullen's bright red car, again her knowledge of cars was shameful, her grin only grew wider at the looks on the Hale twin's faces. Poor bastards, they looked so horrified. They noticed her coming and the looks of horror morphed into something different for almost every vampire. Alice and Emmett both had excited smiles on their faces, like damn puppies those two were. She and Alice had never spoken, but Addi felt as though it was about to change. No doubt Alice had seen something and decided to wait until everyone was in the know, so to speak, before approaching the human girl. Addi hadn't made the first move either, she theorised that Alice had also seen that decision. Either way, it wouldn't matter now as the pixie vampire seemed to be bouncing in the car, excited for her arrival. Rose had a small smile on her face, filled with the affection one would hold for a close friend or sibling. The smile had warmed Addi's heart, whilst the two had been close in the previous months Addi believed that now Rose knew that she knew what they were, the walls that the Aphrodite incarnate had put up would come down just that little bit faster. Addi was glad for that. She had meant what she had said the day previous, back in her own world Rosalie's strength had inspired her to be strong. Frankly, SMeyer did so many of her characters wrong, especially Rose and the Quileute tribe. Her and Rowling would get along like a house on fire. Venom destroys melanin and makes everyone beautiful, what utter bullshit. It was a shame, Twilight had potential but Smeyer happened to write it. Whilst don't get her wrong she liked the series she wasn't blind to the ignorance of the writer and the offence she had caused. Rosalie Hale was a prime example of the author's failings.
Her eyes finally turned to Jasper's and she was confused by what she saw in his expression. His smile was soft and his eyes were filled with what looked like awe. Addi stumbled minutely in her walk because of the look Jasper was sending her way. He certainly hadn't looked at her like that the night before. Most likely the family had been talking about her and something had been said or done to or by Jasper. Hopefully someone would tell her what was going on with him at some point.
"How's my favorite fanged four this fine morning?" Addi asked. She was caught off guard when Emmett bounded up to her and swept her into a hug. She let out a high pitched squeak when her feet left the ground. The vampire's movement towards her was so swift that Addi was almost certain he had used his enhanced speed to get to her so fast. The only thing that contradicted the idea was the fact that there were a lot of humans standing around outside the school.
"Addi my bestie you are brilliant!" Emmett started spinning around, not yet having put the girl down.
"Put her down Em, humans need air remember?" Jasper commented with a wry smirk, making eye contact with said oxygen deprived human. Emmet awkwardly put Addi back down, but she had to grasp onto his arm to prevent herself from falling over from the dizziness she was feeling, both from lack of oxygen and Emmett's spinning.
"Thanks Jasper," Addi gasped then looked up to Emmett, "I know I'm brilliant, what's the reminder for?"
Jasper proceeded to explain what the Cullen coven had discussed the night before. Apparently when Edward arrived home from his day with Bella he couldn't read any minds of his family. He had been shouting and bitching until Jasper got home. Whatever it was, Addi wasn't worried too much. Either she would find out herself or Emmett would spill as, aside from the obvious vampire secret, he couldn't keep any. Besides it wasn't as if the look from Jasper was a negative one.
"Well when Eddie got home he was pissed, he said he couldn't read our minds. We all thought it was weird and was thinking, maybe it was because of you. Ya know because of the theory gifts can be genetic? Well you said Bella was a shield who protects herself, maybe you protect everyone else? When Alice came home," Emmet stopped his excited ramble for a split second to gesture at Alice who waved a little. Honestly Emmett was lucky he didn't need to breathe, otherwise he would've passed out already. Instead he continued to explain the weird occurrence of the night before. "He could still read her mind. He was so happy I swear he was almost dancing! But he saw you in her mind, she saw you coming and all that. So he wasn't pissed about us believing you but he still isn't thrilled about how he cant read our minds."
Addi had to just blink at Emmett for a short while. He spoke so quickly and excitedly that the poor human girl had to take some time to compute what he had said at near vampire speed.
"So Edward's gift doesn't work… and you think it's because of me?" Addi asked the group quietly. Jasper, feeling her turbulent emotions, came and wrapped around her shoulders.
"Don't feel guilty, Darlin'." If she hadn't been feeling that guilt then she would have blushed at the endearment. It was slightly possible that she had a thing for southern accents, but she wasn't going to tell Jasper that. Especially in front of Emmett, it would provide countless amounts of teasing material. When her best friend, Blue, had found out they had often adopted a southern accent just to mess with her and get on her nerves. They were very aware of the reaction it gave Addi but continued to do so. They were such a, in their own words, cockwomble.
"I can't help it, Jasper. Edward's gift is so important to him, that's why Bella caught his attention in the first place. To not be able to use it… that must be so hard for him… I'm sure it's a blessing for all of you. Privacy for the first time for more than half a century, but he must really be struggling… I shouldn't complain too much." She looked up to Jasper, damn cowboy being so tall. She had a smile on her face, her guilt fading the more she thought about the situation. Edward's gift was pretty invasive, hell she would love to not guard her thoughts. She was tired of doing so already, the other vampires had been doing so for decades. No wonder they were all so happy. She would be too. Hey maybe if she projects it onto others she could bounce it off a mirror or something back onto herself… that would be cool…
She was pulled into Jasper's chest with his hands stroking her back. It was nice to be in his arms, but it was strange that he wasn't as cold as his siblings.
"It's gonna be okay, darlin'. I'm sure that he will understand that you aint doing it to make his life difficult. Come sit with us at lunch and you can talk to him."
"There's no point," Addi spoke into his chest, unwilling to move, she was quite happy where she was. And Jasper probably knew that… dammit. Thankfully he as well the other Cullens could hear her just fine. "He and Bella will be ditching again today. She wants to know more about vampires and specifically all of you. How old you are, the vegetarian thing and gifts." Rosalie looked annoyed, she still wasn't Bella's biggest fan. But that was okay with Addi, as long as she didn't insult her sister or cause her harm, Rose could have her opinions. Addi understood Rose's objections to Bella because of what the younger human would be giving up should she turn. Addi supposed that either her turning wasn't on the table or if it was, her life was already turned upside down because of her little dimension trip that what Rose considered a normal life was just going to be near impossible.
With her head still in Jasper's chest she didn't see the look that was exchanged between the remaining vampire siblings, nor did she see the nod that was exchanged between Jasper and the others. She also didn't notice as they left towards the building until she pulled away slightly from Jasper and looked around. Her eyebrows furrowed in slight confusion, this caused a smirk to grace the blondes face. A bright blush lit up Addi's face at the smirk that was a mix between sultry and teasing.
"Come on Darlin', we're gonna copy your sister and my brother and ditch for the day. I wanna talk to you more…" Addi said nothing, grabbing Jasper's hand and began to lead him into the woods surrounding Forks High.
