He unpacked his present and his eyes went wide as he lifted the lid of the box and pulled out a beautiful model of Mars made of polished stone and richly carved.
"Oh Lena, this is…", J'onn said in a rather choked voice, "This is spectacular!" He hugged her. "Where did you find this?"
Lena breathed a sigh of relief, "I found it in an Alien Antique Shop across town and couldn't resist."
"It's perfect, thank you so much", he said, gazing fondly at the little orb.
"Mon-El, this is for you", Lena now said, handing his present to the Daxamite herself.
He accepted it and immediately set about removing the paper. A baseball glove and a ball were revealed.
He let out a shout of laughter, "This is awesome, Lena! How did you know?"
Lena smirked and looked over at Alex, "Director Danvers here told me how you were fascinated by baseball and I thought it'd be fun if you could try. Just be careful how hard you throw that ball. These things are made for humans."
Mon-El laughed and surged forward, hugging Lena with so much enthusiasm that he lifted her off her feet and swung her around once. Lena let out a shout of surprise but laughed when Mon-El set her back down.
"Sorry", he said, rubbing his neck in embarrassment. "I just got carried away. I didn't hurt you, did I?" he added worriedly.
"No, no, not at all. You just caught me by surprise", Lena reassured him.
He smiled in relief.
Lena now turned to Eliza and Jeremiah, "Well, finding something for you two has been somewhat difficult since we'd never met before but I hope I chose well."
Jeremiah immediately answered, "Lena, it's the thought that counts most, not the actual present. And I'm sure you selected something great."
Lena was taken aback by these words. Not that she hadn't heard it before or didn't believe in Jeremiah's sincerity but in the Luthor clan, the actual items had always been the most important.
"That's another new thing for me, I'm afraid but I'm glad to know people really live by this statement", she answered gratefully.
Eliza and Jeremiah unwrapped their gifts. They turned out to be two sets of a beautiful cashmere scarf and matching hat and gloves.
"Wow, Lena, those are beautiful!" Eliza said, examining her items.
"Yes, they are great, thank you!" Jeremiah added.
Lena exhaled in relief and smiled happily, "I'm so glad you like them. Kara and Alex told me how very cold Midvale can get in winter."
Both of Kara's parents smiled and hugged Lena.
Now there was only Kara's present left and Lena was beginning to feel nervous. Had she done the right thing? Would Kara like it?
